Birthday party tonight for one of my dear friends who I see almost never because they live on the East Coast while I am on the West. I anticipate getting to see most of my social group from undergraduate. There will be tasty drinks and snacks. I helped prep. :)

It’s going to be a good Friday.

Fox showing they’ll go as low as they have to to get ratings.

Fox premiered the first part of its new reality show “Does Someone Have to Go” last night, in which employees of a company are given “control” for 48 hours, and in a rush of recrimination and gossip and dysfunction forced to decide which of them deserves to get fired. It’s the sort of “surprise” that a boss like Michael Scott would think was a “fun” idea to spring on his employees, only to have it blow up in his face. In fact, so much about “Does Someone Have to Go” resonates with “The Office” — the cubicles, the bleak carpeted hallways, the diverse, regular folk staff, the quirky personalities, the endless cringing — except that it’s a reality show, not a sitcom. Real people have to face the possibility they will be fired for the sake of entertainment and a manipulative reality show.

Haven’t been here in a while and look at this crap site now.

A British soldier is murdered in broad daylight and you and your sychophants defend the splodeydopes to the nth degree.

Sad. So sad. And then we have the hypocrisy.

Even more sad is how you attack others (the wingnuts) for doing the same exact things you moonbats do, and then you act all high and mighty.

This used to be a great place to exchange ideas and have differing points of view. Now it is just an echo chamber and if you cultists don’t follow charlie’s thoughts and orders, you shall be banned. As if banning is the end of the world.

I was banned some time ago for visiting a website that charlie didn’t approve of. Since I am not allowed to think for myself, he banned me.

Wake up moonbats! You are following the cult of a once great leader who decided betray his flock because he counln’t control their thoughts or actions. Now, you follow his every whim or be gone and “get off my site”.

I do like it that kilgore trouty has been demoted and is finally starting to wake up from the stupor he put himself in.

Can anyone here think for themselves? Or do you need a pied piper to follow? And one who hides from a good debate as well?

You kind of murdered that metaphor. If it flies right by me, I miss it, in the figurative speech. So you mean if it flies by me, then it goes bye-bye.

And really, just saying ‘think for yourselves!’, you’re obviously not a stupid enough person to think that counts as substantive speech, right? You came in, obviously, just to talk a bunch of shit. I had fun earlier…now I’m bored. I think I’ll log off for the day, go home and grab my surfboard, and let the Pacific Ocean beat the living crap out of me for a while. Ooh, and I have fresh asparagus and a rib-eye for grilling later, as well as some good Pinots I picked up last weekend. Yes…leaving now is a good idea.

Enjoy your weekend everyone…see you in a few hours after I’ve had some fun.

If you do, my tip is, for perfect hamburgers, trim off all the beef fat and silver skin, and instead replace it with pork fat, preferably fatty bacon. Two strips of fatty bacon per pound of well-trimmed beef for juicy burgers, three strips for bursting-with-juice burgers. Put one of the bacon strips in first, and chill the beef in the freezer before you put it into the grinder, because the grinder will heat up and you don’t want it partially cooking the meat. Use the coarsest setting, and grind it twice. I use a mix of toasted cumin and coriander ground up with black pepper and paprika and add it to the mixture on the second grind.

Your view that this site and its proprietor “betrayed” some of its prior fans is bizarre tribalist thinking. CJ doesn’t owe anything to you. Or me. Maybe he’ll make a sharp right turn in the future. At which point I’d probably pay less attention to the site. What I wouldn’t do is come back and passive-aggressively play the betrayed martyr. Oh, you poor dear, that evil CJ two-timed you. What a total load of shit that exists in your mind only.

Your arguments about terror are hyperbolic garbage. No one here applauded what they did, or defended them in any way. The concerns brought up were blowback and the potential for retaliatory attacks against Muslims by English nationalist extremists. Only a simpleton with a binary brain can’t see the obvious distinction.

Holy cow and what a misleading article from McClatchy. Example.

McClatchy:

In every previous speech, interview and congressional testimony, Obama and his top aides have said that drone strikes are restricted to killing confirmed “senior operational leaders of al Qaida and associated forces” plotting imminent violent attacks against the United States.

But Obama dropped that wording Thursday, making no reference at all to senior operational leaders. While saying that the United States is at war with al Qaida and its associated forces, he used a variety of descriptions of potential targets, from “those who want to kill us” and “terrorists who pose a continuing and imminent threat” to “all potential terrorist targets.”

The context and what PBO said about “all potential terrorist targets.”

Of course, the targeting of any American raises constitutional issues that are not present in other strikes — which is why my administration submitted information about Awlaki to the Department of Justice months before Awlaki was killed, and briefed the Congress before this strike as well. But the high threshold that we’ve set for taking lethal action applies to all potential terrorist targets, regardless of whether or not they are American citizens. This threshold respects the inherent dignity of every human life. Alongside the decision to put our men and women in uniform in harm’s way, the decision to use force against individuals or groups — even against a sworn enemy of the United States — is the hardest thing I do as President. But these decisions must be made, given my responsibility to protect the American people.

The two writers for McClatchy are either a) idiots or b) total liars. I mean look at what they did here.

Woolwich attack: Al Muhajiroun linked to one in five terrorist convictions

One in five terrorists convicted in Britain over more than a decade were either members of or had previous links to the extremist group al-Muhajiroun, a study shows.

It is a fairly small newtwork and they operate in the open. You’d think it would be fairly easy to infiltrate the group like we do with FBI stings here in the states. I don;t know that the UK laws are regarding entrapment and stuff but I’m sure they could figure out something.

Yeah, usually their protests draw about a dozen people, maybe 20 on a good day. If you go back 10-15 years and look into all the people who regularly attented their meetings, lectures, events, cohorted, associated, affiliated, schmoozed and hung out with them it’s probably not more than a couple thousand folks. That really narrows down the field and could result in roughly a 20% drop in terrorism.

re: #198 calochortus

By the way, we have tadpoles and so far they’re looking good.
Of course they looked pretty good last year until the racoons got them all. This year we put up a fence.

Yeah, the raccoon raids are a problem. They make a real mess and I’m not sure a fence will keep them out. Good luck!

I’m not sure either, but it’s all we’ve got. It’s a very small frog pond and a fairly stout wire fence, so we are hopeful. And if the racoons mess with it, we’ll be able to see and maybe do something better before they get all the tadpoles.

How about mixing up some food for them? Cheap seafood protein with a grain?
