We Won’t Have Michele Bachmann (R-Mars) to Kick Around Any More

The twilight of a sterling wingnut career
Politics • Views: 34,410

We obviously need a post about right wing nut case Michele Bachmann deciding not to run for re-election in Minnesota: Michele Bachmann Retiring Under Fire.

She isn’t doing well at all in the polls, and Minnesota’s approval of gay marriage this month must have been a real shock to her fragile psyche, but those aren’t the only reasons God told her it was time to bail out:

Bachmann’s decision comes as she faces a growing swirl of investigations into her campaign finances, with the The Federal Election Commission and the Office of Congressional Ethics opening investigations into whether her campaign concealed payments to an Iowa state senator who did work for her 2012 presidential bid. Last week, the FBI reportedly joined the inquiry.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, here’s a look back at Bachmann’s long history of batshit insane statements:

Hey, congressional pay isn’t all that high for those talented people. The free market practically demands they seek their true worth.

I’m heartbroken. Her service as Congress’s jester was one of the best. Oh wait, she was actually there to legislate laws. Yikes. Okay, okay more seriously, I am glad she’s leaving even if that means the seat will likely stay Republican because she’s a complete nutcase. Now if only Steve King and Louis Gohmert could leave too.

9 Varek Raith  Wed, May 29, 2013 1:33:31pm

This is the same Michele Bachmann who announced that God told her to run for president (back in 2011).

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., says that she prayed to God about whether or not to run for political office and that those prayers provided her with a “sense from God” of “assurance about the direction” she was taking.

In a Sunday morning appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Bachmann - who will formally announce her presidential campaign in Iowa on Monday - responded to questions about statements she has made in the past that God “called me to run for the United States Congress.”

“I am a Christian, as is my husband. I became a Christian when I was 16 years old. I gave my heart to Jesus Christ,” Bachmann told CBS’ Bob Schieffer. “Since that time, I’ve been a person of prayer. And so when I pray, I pray believing that God will speak to me and give me an answer to that prayer.

“That’s what a calling is,” continued the Tea Party favorite. “If I pray, a calling means that I feel like I have a sense from God.”

Bachmann says she asked God about running for political office.

“Did God tell you He wanted you to run for the Minnesota State Senate, or something like that?” Schieffer asked.

“I prayed about that, as well,” Bachmann said. “And that’s really what that means. It means that I have a sense of assurance about the direction I think that God is speaking into my heart that I should go.”

But apparently this same God decided to punk her and has now decided it best to get the FBI and FEC to investigate her for campaign shenanigans.

Disney World patron finds gun on Animal Kingdom ride

A Walt Disney World park guest found a loaded gun in the seat of a ride at the Animal Kingdom that had fallen out of a man’s back pocket on Sunday.

A grandmother handed a Cobra .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol about noon to a park attendant, who immediately contacted security and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

A young boy said, “My grandma found it in her seat,” the report stated.

The owner, Angelo Lista, 44, of Royal Palm Beach claimed the firearm — which had five hollow point bullets inside — fell out of his back pocket during the bumpy Dinosaur ride, according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report.

FALSE FLAG!!!!!

Obama explains lipstick on his collar

Image: Obama_with_lipstick_in_his_collar.jpg

There to speak of their contributions, he began his remarks by discussing a very red mark on his collar left by an attendee.

“I want to thank everybody who’s here—the incredible warmth of the reception. A sign of the warmth is the lipstick on my collar,” Obama said to laughter.

“I have to say I think I know the culprit—where is Jessica Sanchez?” the president said to more hoots, referring to the “American Idol” runner-up who was in attendance. “Jessica—it wasn’t Jessica. It was her aunt. Where is she? Auntie, right there. Look at this.”

The president pointed to the red lipstick stain on his light blue shirt.
“I do not want to be in trouble with Michelle,” Obama said, “so I’m calling you out.”

When the man pulled over and tried to get a picture with the beaver, the animal bit him and hit a major artery in his leg, causing him to bleed to death.

Boy Scouts on Slippery Slope to Accepting Atheists

The slippery slope — from “morally straight” to homosexual to atheist Boy Scouts — is real. The Boy Scouts in the United Kingdom, who opened their tent flaps to homosexuals years ago, are now considering welcoming atheists as well.

The new “compromise” adopted by the BSA is an irrational and thus an unstable one. Whether through further administrative actions or a lawsuit, it is likely that the Boy Scouts will have “open and avowed homosexuals” as Scoutmasters and volunteers in the near future.

The atheists will not be far behind.

Cleaned under the china cabinet last night as prep for some apartment cleaning and getting ready for a few days off. Dug out a variety of cat toys that had not seen the light of day for a while. Including a few that the current cats had never seen.

So, a round of “cat golf” began.

Image: Cat_Golf_-_Lining_up_shot.jpg

Oh Noes! In the Sandtrap!

Ball Stuck in Obstacle

This included the cat picking up the ball in his mouth and carrying it around the apartment to find new places to start the next round.

The other cat discovered the furry mouse toy that “squeaks” when you hit it and spent a long period pounding on it and tossing it around.

It’s the “the rules of what constitutes proof change when discussing Islam” thing.

1. Circular reasoning is suddenly okay because Muslims are Muslims.
2. You’re entitled to assume the worst because Muslims.
3. Historical and economic context never matter when talking about Islam and Muslims.
3. Islam has a core ideology in spite of having no central interpretive body. If you’ve obtain the gnostic lore of Islamophobes, you can divine the true meaning of Quran verses that have been debated for centuries.
4. If you’ve obtained the gnostic lore of Islamophobes, you also can divine the true meanings of statements by Muslims…which, coincidentally, are always damning and negative.
5. Historical and economic context regarding post-colonial and post-dictatorship effects in the Middle East don’t matter, because Muslims.
6. The answer to the question “Where are the moderate Muslims?” is always, No True Scotsman.
7. The answer to the question “Where are the moderate Muslims?” should never incorporate the phrase “They were threatened, exiled, and/or killed, which the Western World didn’t give a shit about because (1) OIL and (2) theocrats were preferable mild socialists because Cold War.

Leader of Armed March On Washington Calls For ‘Revolutionary Army’ To Topple Government

Thousands of people signed up to attend an armed march on Washington over the course of the last month. But now, the leader of the march is setting his sights much higher than a single demonstration — he wants his armed followers to help overthrow the American government.

About a month ago, a gun activist named Adam Kokesh called for thousands of people to join him in an armed march on Washington, D.C. to “put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny.” As of this writing, nearly 5,200 people have RSVPed for Kokesh’s armed march.

Late last week, however, Kokesh decided to abandon this march in favor of a much larger effort to bring down the entire federal government.

Rob Ford’s former staffers’ emails, telephone records ordered destroyed: sources

Emails and telephone records in Mayor Rob Ford’s office are in danger of disappearing, the Star has learned.

The electronic records, which may reveal knowledge of discussions of the video scandal, were ordered destroyed this week. Sources say people who were told to delete the records are balking at the order.

One source the Star spoke to was alarmed at the potential loss of “evidence of attempts” to locate and retrieve a video of Ford smoking crack cocaine and making homophobic and racial slurs.

The records in question were held on the City Hall server and belonged to departed staff members Mark Towhey, George Christopolous and Isaac Ransom. Towhey was fired for telling the Mayor to seek addiction help; the other two resigned Monday after their communications advice was ignored.

Overnighter at a motel? Maybe two nights, no, make it three, then May will be over.

OH No!! We had the overnighter in a motel, a hundred miles from home, when the “Best Bone Clinic in Georgia” booted wife out after hours. Did you know rotator cuff surgery is ‘outpatient’ for insurance purposes? She isn’t allowed to lay flat for 6 weeks.

I worked on a project for 6 months, from concept to being a week away from implementation, when I heard that particular turn of phrase.

I don’t work on implementation projects anymore.

I had that in my first two IT jobs in the late 80s. Stuff I worked on was scrapped within a year or two of being implemented or coded. Due to poor presentation, change of direction, etc.

Then something I worked on in 1991-92 that I had design input on hung around until 2005 or so. Only reason it went away was that they retired the hardware it ran on.

A little better. I spent quite a bit of time pasting phrases into Google translate in order to get a clue what the particular security role was supposed to be for. I’ve got the Portuguese for Analyst, Manager, Taxes, Enterprise, Maintenance, and a few other bits down cold now. And that SSMA means HSE.

Not exactly conversational.

WTF is this month about? Lizard families are crashing, bleeding, and dying. We’ve been lucky—only two eye surgeries and a rotator cuff rebuild. (Wife is down to one functioning limb.) I was doing well, even with the eye crap, holding things together. Then today the hot water heater chilled out and I got it disassembled when I sliced my hand trying to slice wife’s apple. Today stinks, and tomorrow we will all stink. And there are two more fucking days in May.

Wow, Glenn Greenwald looks like some kind of noir villain.

From now on, every time I read anything by Greenwald I’m going to hear Peter Lorre’s voice in my head reading it, and it will be a vast improvement.

Here, you try:

The highly touted speech Obama delivered last week on US terrorism policy was a master class in that technique. If one longed to hear that the end of the “war on terror” is imminent, there are several good passages that will be quite satisfactory. If one wanted to hear that the war will continue indefinitely, perhaps even in expanded form, one could easily have found that. And if one wanted to know that the president who has spent almost five years killing people in multiple countries around the world feels personal “anguish” and moral conflict as he does it, because these issues are so very complicated, this speech will be like a gourmet meal.

Then, she gets home and her washing machine is dead as a doornail. And THEN she finds out the guy who owns the house she’s renting is letting the property go into foreclosure, so in a few months she’s going to be homeless unless she can find something else in her price range(which is practically zip-obviously). Something has GOT to go right for this kid soon, she really doesn’t deserve all this crap, and her kids don’t either. IOW, their information packets have become less useful.

I don’t know if Gallup is intentionally letting less information out (for free, anyway), or if they are just doing simpler surveys.

Between exchanges of witlessisms, I’ve been delving into the water heater. If you’ve never gazed into the void of your old water tank—don’t.

Have done so. Several times. A water heater is a still. It removes compounds like lime and Iron from the water via heat and magnetism and deposited them on the bottom of the tank. They build up and cause the lower element to either die quitly or go out in a burst a glory..

Been there, done that.

A very misleading headline:

Minneapolis-St. Paul ranks on top as fittest U.S. metro area

What the report in question is saying is that the Twin Cities has the most fitness-health-industry specific resources, not that the population is the “fittest”.

From the article:

The American Fitness Index — established six years ago with support from the WellPoint Foundation — evaluates the infrastructure, community assets and policies that encourage healthy and fit lifestyles in the 50 most populous U.S. metro areas. Also included in the analysis are preventive health behaviors, levels of chronic disease conditions, healthcare access and physical activity resources.

Don’t mind me, I’m just expressing disappointment with Gallup’s accuracy of late. I imagine they’re withholding details to get folks to subscribe, OR because they are tired of having their methodology torn apart by commenters.

In days of yore, people just accepted poll results. Now they question everything. Good for truth, annoying for pollsters.

I remember The Husband was traveling for work one winter and our water heater sprung a leak.It was as old as the house, it’s a wonder it didn’t die before then. Oh fun. I had to find the cut off valve for the water into the house, find a container large enough to catch the water flowing everywhere(used a giant plastic tote thing that the kid’s pool toys go in), go to Home Depot and hope that a 55 gallon water heater would fit into a Honda Fit. It did, barely, with all the seats down but the driver’s. Then get it home and call around frantically to my husband’s friends to find someone to help install the new one and get the old one outta there. Oh fun. Managed all that and barely flooded the basement. I was rather proud of myself for figuring out the logistics of all that on my own.

Ice Cream Bacon Trucks

What kind of music do they play, or do they just pump the smell of frying bacon out and let it work its magic?

Had the heavy scale when we lived in a hardwater area in NY. It was like 6” of stone popcorn that blew of the elements. This stuff is a thin black slime over the whole tank—vaguely remember reading about harmless? thermophilic bacteria. Off to Google “sterilize hot water heater”.

WTF indeed. I feel like we are (or should be) on an endangered species list. Hang in there. {{Decatur Deb}}
