Dim Jim Hoft’s Guest Blogger Rants, Demands Apology From Shirley Sherrod for “Racist Comments”

Right wing losing it again over being accurately tagged with racism
Wingnuts • Views: 27,769

One of the most disgusting of the many disgusting stunts pulled by far right agitator Andrew Breitbart was his unconscionable smear of USDA official Shirley Sherrod. Breitbart used an edited video to falsely portray Sherrod as a “racist,” but the unedited video showed very clearly that this claim was false — Sherrod’s talk was actually about overcoming her own prejudices. In the real world, it was an inspiring, positive message; not “racist” at all. In fact, it was a repudiation of racism in all its forms.

And for that, Andrew Breitbart did everything he could to destroy her career.

So today, what do we find at the website of the Internet’s Dumbest Man, the ineffable Dim Jim Hoft?

Yes, it’s a demand from Hoft’s equally idiotic guest writer Andrew Marcus (the assembler of the laughable “Hating Breitbart” film) that Shirley Sherrod apologize to the public for her “racist comments.”

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - It’s Time for Shirley Sherrod to Apologize for Racist Comments | the Gateway Pundit

Thankfully, her bigoted comments are drawing a sharp reaction and condemnation from all corners. Gov. Bobby Jindal is leading the charge. This is encouraging because it appears to indicate that we may have reached a tipping point on the effective use of the race card in polite society.

If that’s the case, and I hope it is, then another step on the road to recovery from the Progressive race-card-game addiction, would be an apology from Shirley Sherrod and the NAACP.

Step 9: Make direct amends to such people wherever possible

If Democrat State Senator Karen Carter should apologize for her infamatory and bigoted comments, and she should, then Shirley Sherrod and the NAACP have some apologizing to do as well because she said the exact same thing and her audience applauded!

This type of bigotry must stop if we’re ever going to heal and unite as one nation.
Shirley Sherrod, the NAACP, and Karen Carter all owe the public an apology for their hateful comments.

Enough is Enough.

That’s some world-class concern trolling there. Recycling a years-old, long-debunked fake story based on a deceptively edited video — they must be running out of fresh fake outrages.

Anyway, here’s what provoked this silly post: Hoft and Marcus and the rest of the wingnut noise machine are shrieking about Louisiana Democratic Party chair Karen Carter, because she said:

“It isn’t about the administration, and members, it shouldn’t be about this administration at the state level nor should it be about the federal administration when it comes to Obamacare, but in fact it is. And why is that? Why is that? I have talked to so many members both in the House and the Senate, and you know what? You ready? You ready for what it comes down to? It is not about how many federal dollars we can receive, it is not about that. You ready? It is about race. I know nobody wants to talk about that. It is about the race of this African-American President …”

The latest right wing technique for handling accusations of racism is just to scream scream scream as loud as possible, and act offended and outraged that anyone would DARE suggest such a thing.

But Ms. Carter is absolutely correct, and every single day Republicans and right wingers provide further evidence to support her claim. For thousands of examples, see: LGF Tag: Racism.

And just keep scrolling to the bottom. It’s an endless list.

Someone for Gateway Blogger lecturing others on hatefulness? Uh, yeah may want to look at yourselves first guys. And frankly, let’s just look at the elephant in the room, she’s right, If she wasn’t, you wouldn’t see all the racist signs against Obama that you see and saw at anti-Obama rallies. You wouldn’t see Romney reminding his audience that he’s an American. It is racism. And Hoft owns a part of that.

Indiana Rep. on doubling student loan rates: ‘Personal responsibility is pretty cool’

Rep. Luke Messer (R-IN) told MSNBC’s Luke Russet that young people should support the Republicans’ plan to tie student loan interest rates to market rates because “I think personal responsibility is pretty cool.”

Messer came on to discuss competing proposals from Democrats and Republicans, both of which seek to avert an automatic student loan interest rate doubling on July 1, when the rate is expected to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. Both plans aim to peg rates to the 10-year Treasury note rate, but the Republicans’ proposal adds a surcharge of 2.5 percent for federally subsidized student loans. The president’s proposal also pegs the rate to Treasury lending rates, but adds only 0.93 percent for subsidized Stafford loans, 2.93 percent for unsubsidized Stafford loans, and 3.93 percent for PLUS loans for parents and graduate students.

Fuck you Messer.

This is from March, but it is related: Defamation Lawsuit by Shirley Sherrod May Be Tossed:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A colleague of the late conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart is asking a federal court of appeals to throw out a defamation case brought against him by former government employee Shirley Sherrod, saying the lawsuit violates the blogger’s right to freedom of speech.

Sherrod was ousted from her job as an Agriculture Department rural development official in 2010 after Breitbart posted an edited video of Sherrod, who is black, supposedly making racist remarks. She sued Breitbart, his employee Larry O’Connor and an unnamed defendant for defamation and emotional distress after USDA officials asked her to resign and the video ignited a racial firestorm. Sherrod’s lawyers say the unnamed defendant is the person whom they believe passed the video on to Breitbart, though the person’s identity remains unknown.

Breitbart died unexpectedly a year ago, and his status in the case is unclear as his family does not appear to have notified the court of an estate that can be sued.

Basically, the remaining defendants (since the death of Breitbart) are claiming 1st amendment protections, saying the Sherrod blog post was an opinion.

A Disease in the Public Mind: A New Understanding of Why We Fought the Civil War

By the time John Brown hung from the gallows for his crimes at Harper’s Ferry, Northern abolitionists had made him a “holy martyr” in their campaign against Southern slave owners. This Northern hatred for Southerners long predated their objections to slavery. They were convinced that New England, whose spokesmen had begun the American Revolution, should have been the leader of the new nation. Instead, they had been displaced by Southern “slavocrats” like Thomas Jefferson. This malevolent envy exacerbated the South’s greatest fear: a race war. Jefferson’s cry, “We are truly to be pitied,” summed up their dread. For decades, extremists in both regions flung insults and threats, creating intractable enmities. By 1861, only a civil war that would kill a million men could save the Union.

Also somewhat related, tho from about a month ago: Marcus gloats on behalf of Breitbart over Pigford:

Last Friday, conservative activist and media scourge Andrew Breitbart was posthumously vindicated. Before he died in March 2012 of sudden heart failure, he had worked tirelessly to expose the horrific fraud that is Pigford.

For those who get their news only from the New York Times, the name “Pigford” would have sounded unfamiliar until last week, but only because Andrew’s efforts to make the mainstream media cover the issue (as he had induced them to cover Weinergate) were cut short by his untimely death.

It’s a complicated and disturbing story, which the Times finally covered in a front-page, above-the-fold story of more than 5,000 words. The short version goes something like this: Approximately 400 black farmers filed discrimination complaints against the U.S. Department of Agriculture; The Justice Department agreed to negotiate a settlement, and it established a structure by which additional claimants could file for their portion of the settlement amount: $50,000 per claim.

In short order, this fast-track settlement-payout system was abused by crooked politicians, lawyers, community organizers, and other groups of alleged victims (Hispanic, Native American, and female farmers) in parallel discrimination suits, leading to claims and payouts to 70,000-plus claimants. “In 16 ZIP codes in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and North Carolina,” the Times reported, “the number of successful claimants exceeded the total number of farms operated by people of any race in 1997, the year the lawsuit was filed.”

In one case, documented at Breitbart’s site Big Government in 2011, two full years before the Times finally weighed in on the story, potential claimants were told that if they had ever owned a potted plant, they could claim they had wanted to farm, and thus they would be eligible for the $50,000 payout. The schemes got more creative from there.

I don’t think they blatantly twisted her words. Rather, I think they were incredibly careless. Breitbart admitted that he hadn’t seen the full video when he posted the edited one, and that he did so because he felt he had a narrow window to respond to the NCAA’s formal denunciation of racism within the Tea Party. If he had done due diligence just to make sure the video he received was on the up and up, all of this could have been avoided.

For that reason, and especially his steadfast refusal to post a correction, or retraction, or apology, he remains uncredible.

I think I used the historian Fleming’s book when I had a research paper on New Jersey. Took a class on the Revolutionary Era and we each had a colony (it was a small class so everyone got a colony)

Ah true enough. Juts don’t know how they can claim it was just an opinion.

I have to say that I do not believe Breitbart’s claim that he hadn’t seen the full video. There’s no reason to think he would be honest about something like that, and plenty of reason to think he would lie.

76 thecommodore  Fri, May 31, 2013 12:06:15pm

Meanwhile, here is the link I tried to post above - It’s Marcus saying Breitbart was vindicated in his crusade over the Pigford scandal:

nationalreview.com

Fun Fact: Why did Pirates wear eye patches?

It’s not because he was wounded in a sword fight,” says Dr. Sheedy. Seamen must constantly move between the pitch black of below decks and the bright sunshine above.

Smart pirates “wore a patch over one eye to keep it dark-adapted outside.” Should a battle break out and the pirate had to shimmy below, he would simply switch the patch to the outdoor eye and he could see in the dark right away—saving him 25 minutes of flailing his cutlass about in near blindness.

Today? $50,000.

Sure, it was a stretch for my folks at the time, but shit - $50,000?

If you want cheap college, we need to do it the French way. National system, hold costs down by limiting professor and admin salaries, large classes, little personal attention and no obvious ways for families to buy their way into the system.

The last part is why this approach is unlikely to fly in the US. People are attached to the idea that you can buy quality for yourself, if you can afford it.

A look at the political/news week that was….
-This week was yet another week with high pitched calls for attorney general Eric Holder’s resignation.
-New polling shows that the American public is much more concerned with the economy than any of the so-called scandals the media has been focused on the past few weeks.
-The zaniest member of Congress, Michele Bachmann (R-MN) announced her retirement this week. Good riddance!
-George Zimmerman is going with the “Blame the Victim” defense strategy.
-Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly says Republicans should focus on attracting White voters. Wait, what?
-Another letter sent to President Obama has tested positive for the poison ricin.
-President Obama taps former Bush official James Comey to head up the FBI.
-A 22-year old woman in El Salvador will likely die after being denied a lifesaving abortion. “Beatriz” will be forced to give birth to a brain dead fetus and she will likely die as a result.
-Why is Dartmouth University punishing women who report their rapes more harshly than the actual rapists?

What saddens me is that, when we were there, the place was mostly middle class kids, whose parents could largely afford to send them to a good private college that provided an excellent education.

Now? Not so much. I’m willing to bet that most of my classmates are in the same boat I am - despite a solid upper-middle class income, I can’t afford to send my own children to the college I attended.

Our pal Wargula got all PO’d at me yesterday when I pointed this out.

Cool to catch up with people who you haven’t seen in years and I also got to have a beer in the town’s tavern that I never did since I was under 21 when I lived there. Plus got to listen to an amusing conversation between two guys about globalization.

One BFS = Bryan himself.
Ten BFS = Dim Jim

What would a good benchmark for 1/2 of a BFS be?

Difficult to say. A significant difficulty here is the inapplicability of ordinary notions of greater than and less than to infinite quantities.

I wonder what Mrs. Fischer thinks of her husband being a sexist ass-hat.

She’s too busy in the kitchen cooking up a storm, and squirreling away a few bucks to buy some shoes.

If you turn off Javascript you can continue entering text, but the limit is also checked on the server, so you really won’t be able to get past it. Text longer than 4K is truncated.

No, how?

After putting too much in it refused to post, so I selected all, cut, added a couple of characters then posted it. I then hit the pencil, pasted what I had cut and saved it.

Then there is something else going on. It refused to post, until I pulled my ‘trick’, then when I went to edit it a second time it truncated some of what I had posted so I cancelled.

I actually have the character counter on a to-do list, because I’ve noticed it’s not always accurate when you have a lot of text, nearing the limit.

In any case, the comment posting scripts on the server always truncate comments at 4K.

I assumed the count was wrong because the Post It button did nothing when the count was still in the 4 or 5 character range.

If I didn’t get past your limit then all’s OK. I just thought I’d give you feedback on the inconsistency, but since you knew, I’ll fade back into the woodwork.

re: #71 thecommodore

I don’t think they blatantly twisted her words. Rather, I think they were incredibly careless. Breitbart admitted that he hadn’t seen the full video when he posted the edited one, and that he did so because he felt he had a narrow window to respond to the NCAA’s formal denunciation of racism within the Tea Party. If he had done due diligence just to make sure the video he received was on the up and up, all of this could have been avoided.

For that reason, and especially his steadfast refusal to post a correction, or retraction, or apology, he remains uncredible.

I think Breitbart could be accused of reckless disregard for the truth. Having a narrow window is no excuse for not doing due diligence. Having a reckless disregard for the truth is one of the components for being guilty of defamation of character.

I guess this is what we’re dealing with. Man these nuts are scary. They seriously think demons are why the BSA changed its position on gays and homosexuality is raping the relationship between man and God. And they think allowing gays to marry is analogous to Nazi Germany exterminating millions of people. Sheesh.

Been doing a major overhaul of the video/audio embedding code for the past couple of days. Bringing things up to date with the latest techniques.

I really wish more video providers would start supporting HTML5 video tags, or at least iframe-based video that would work on mobile devices.

MSNBC in particular - they’re still using a really creaky old Flash-based method with <object> tags. Yech.

Erdogan has pretty much killed any chance that NATO will intervene in Syria. He responded with cruelty over an issue of patronage-style corruption.

He wanted to bulldoze a park to replace it with a shopping mall some of his backers/political allies wanted. Money trumps people with him.

Ah well, I’ll keep an eye out for that. Thanks. Always up for trying new beers. Part of that adventure that is barhopping.

If you can find it — and it’s NOT cheap ($20/6-pk) — Dogfish Head have a brew called “Midas Touch”. Ostensibly, it’s an extrapolation of what archeological biologists have determined was served at Midas’ funeral, based of their analysis of the remnants of jugs and such used in his funeral.

One of the most complex and interesting brews I have ever tasted. (And yes, I lived and guzzled in Germany for 2 years!) Worth trying at least once. Oh, and it’s 10% alcohol. Yum!
