Possibly the Craziest Right Wing Video You’ll See Today, Starring Glenn Beck

If you can figure out what the hell Glenn Beck is trying to say in this totally whacked out clip, please let me know. I know it has something to do with one of his many conspiracy theories, and the Tea Party’s in there somehow, but apart from that all I can do is gaze in wonder at the insanity.

Sorry, haven’t had a chance to watch. I’m just catching up with Gov. Christie and his call for special primary for August 13 with a general election in October.

An entertaining presser, as always.

16 lawhawk  Tue, Jun 4, 2013 11:12:09am

I’ve just watched the derpularity. That much crazy is just nuts. I’d say unbelievable, but Beck and a whole bunch of his followers believe it. This is their worldview.

They really believe that government death panels are coming - as if insurance companies didn’t have their own bean-counters denying payment for treatments when the costs rose above a certain level, or inflicting lifetime maximum payments, or any other similar effort.

Throw in a wee bit of Jew-baiting, and you’ve got a cavalcade of crazy.

Why is Satan in the painting? Are you saying these people are Satanic??

I don’t know that. Perhaps most of them are just deceived. Satan is what I call the “Number One Liberal.” Liberalism is about control. Satan wants to promise you everything in exchange for your freedom. He uses lies; deceit and compulsion to have you do his bidding. In the end, you are left with nothing. How has any liberal idea ever ended well?* It is instant satisfaction at the expense of your soul. Yes, liberalism is a disease.

Someone needs to explain to McNaughton how his beloved free market works. A place where studio apartments go for 7 figures is not a place that people are trying to flee in droves because of “liberal policies”.

No, no! You don’t understand! Liberals are about CONTROL, because they want to stop Conservatives from limiting access to contraception, make them legally accept same sex marriage, not teach superstition as science, and hold daily, organized, Christian-only prayers in schools.

Without Liberalism, Conservatives would be free to do those things.

It’s not about freedom, it’s about the RIGHT kind of control. They don’t want the government to not have control over your life, they want the government to control your life to make sure you align with their particular flavor of jesus-ism.

This kind of political extremism is pretty heavily correlated to religious fundamentalism. You’ll find that most people going so far as advocating ‘liberal quarantines’ also make heavy religious references while they’re at it — in this case, ‘Satan is the number-one liberal’.

Basically, this sort of person is already conditioned into an ultra-authoritarian mindset. In their minds, it’s about making sure this remains God’s Favorite Country, lest the holy wrath be brought upon them for not being pious enough.

I don’t think they intentionally do it to annoy the employees-most retail does it these days because employees having lives is less important than having “flexibility” in staffing.

Much of my global health efforts fall under the umbrella of Hope Through Healing Hands.

June 8 will be a crucial moment for global nutrition, and I encourage the U.S. to take a lead on addressing this most devastating global problem. In terms of global successes, May marked the 10th anniversary of PEPFAR, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief that I helped initiate in 2003. We’ve made amazing progress, and we must push on to meet our goal.

-I attended the Lwala Community Alliance (Kenya) board meeting mid-month. They’re doing such good work, and the Clinton Global Initiative has a nice write up.
-ONE’s 2013 Data Report shows findings of countries that spend more of their national budget in areas of education, agriculture, and health often finding themselves closer to the Millennium Development Goals to eradicate poverty.

I think the goals of the big box stores is to eventually not have any employees. All checkout lines will be self-checkout. Just a police guard or three at the exits to prevent stealing/looting. Then maybe cameras will replace the guards.

My local supermarket, Giant, in this case, never ceases to amaze me. Always long lines, even and especially on weekends, when the store would presumably know a lot of people will be shopping. Maybe two lines with real person cashiers, and an ever-expanding number of self-checkouts.

Also, too: get off my lawn

Yep, that’s the word - “flexibility”. Businesses want more ‘flexibility’ to make folks work longer hours without paying for it, like the recent bill that would have allowed companies to give comp time instead of time-and-a-half for overtime. That way they can essentially work people for long hours at the company’s convenience, they essentially lay them off when they’re not needed, making the difference between being an FTE and a Temp almost nil.

Within a week of the statue going up, residents started noticing that the moose was spending more time in the town.

Religious Right Therapist Claims Crayon Drawings Prove Ex-Gay Therapy Works

During a program on the conservative Christian television network Daystar on homosexuality, ex-gay therapist Jerry Mungadze insisted that he can prove his sexual orientation conversion efforts work because he has observed in his patients that after therapy the “areas of the brain that were showing the homosexuality show heterosexuality…the brain is able to go back and fire the way it is supposed to be.”

But Mungadze - who only has degrees in Biblical Studies and counselor education — wasn’t talking about actual brain scans. In fact, Mungadze’s “evidence” of brain transformation relies on crayon drawings.

Warren Throckmorton reports:

Note that patients color in a map of the brain and Mungadze reads the map like a projective test. Apparently, pink relates to femininity, red to anger/aggression, and so on. He says he can tell gay people apart from straights; and when they revert to heterosexuality, he can tell by how they color between the lines.

Who needs brain scans when you have crayons?

Back then they thought pink was a boy color (because the red spectrum is stronger) and blue was for girls (because it’s the color of water, and the sky, and it’s so soothing…)

At a Dallas event featuring Steve Munisteri, the Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, Ken Emanuelson, a leader in the Tea Party, said: “I’m going to be real honest with you - the Republican Party doesn’t want black people to vote…”

Not quite as bad as it appears:

Emanuelson hasn’t backed away from his comments which, to be fair, are somewhat less egregious when you tack on the “…if they’re going to vote 9-1 for Democrats” Battleground Texas omits from his press release.

Of course, they seem to have gone with disqualifying black voters rather than appealing to them, but I’m always suspicious of quotes that end mid sentence with an ellipsis.

Father of the Year wears Nazi uniform to child custody hearing, in case you needed a reminder why there are child custody hearings

NJ DYFS officials had already placed Heinrich Hons Campbell’s older siblings - Adolf Hitler Campbell, 7, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, 6, and 5-year-old Honzlynn Jeannie Campbell - in foster care because of the alleged violence in the family’s Holland Township, N.J. home.

The Campbells gained national attention in December 2008 after a Greenwich Township, N.J. ShopRite supermarket refused to write Adolf Hitler Campbell’s name on a cake for his third birthday. The couple complained the refusal constituted discrimination.

A second store eventually honored their request, but the flap led NJ DYFS to start an investigation into the family.

Asked whether he felt wearing the Nazi uniform, complete with a swastika patch on the arm and leather boots, into court would help or hurt his case, the father said it depended on the judge.

“If they’re good judges and they’re good people, they’ll look within, not what’s on the outside,” he said.

Heath Campbell started wearing the uniform in June 2012 after forming “Hitler’s Order,” a pro-Nazi organization. He was accompanied to the hearing by a member of that organization, Bethanie White.

I won’t have Lubbock to kick around much longer, at least not in person. I have arranged to sell my business to a group of employees, and I will be putting my farm and my house in town on the market.
I have bought a small farm near my mother’s ancestral home of Gordon, Texas (a little west of Fort Worth). It is a beautiful place, part of the justly famed Texas hill country. Trees grow wild there, you don’t even have to water them, and there are lots of scraggly little hills, big enough to be very pretty but small enough for me to climb. The house is 109 years old and was recently restored within an inch of its life. It also comes with a barn, a big workshop and lots of garage space. It’s several miles from I-20, close enough to give easy access to the big city, but far enough to keep yuppies and other pests at arm’s length. I was warned that there are lots of coyotes around and it might therefore be hard to raise chickens. Since I like coyotes and despise chickens, that suits me fine.
I plan to write, work on my online hobby business, and roam around aimlessly with a walking stick.

TIGTA report finds improper spending at the IRS:

The Internal Revenue Service spent about $49 million on 225 conferences between fiscal year 2010 and 2012, much of which was related to inappropriate expenditures, according to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report released June 4 by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The report focuses on an August 2010 conference in Anaheim, Calif., for Small Business/Self-Employed Division managers, where IRS spent $4.1 million dollars for 2,600 people. TIGTA focused on the Anaheim conference because “it was the most expensive conference during the three-year period and because TIGTA received an allegation of excessive spending at that event,” the report said.

Approximately $3.2 million intended to hire additional IRS enforcement personnel was used to help fund the conference, TIGTA said.

Priorities are completely screwed up when you’re spending millions on a conference (when the costs could have been better controlled), and use the balance to hire enforcement personnel. It’s a lack of oversight - at the IRS and Treasury Department.

Colorado ‘birther’ radio host loses job after assaulting producer

A controversial Colorado “birther” radio host has lost his job after an in-studio brawl with a longtime associate and producer. According to Denver’s Channel 9 News, Peter Boyles was fired by KHOW in the wake of a “heated physical exchange” with producer Greg Hollenback.

What sparked the fight is unknown, but it reportedly took place on May 23, mere minutes after U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) visited the studio to announce on Boyles’ show that he is seeking the Colorado governorship in 2014. Moments later the melee erupted and Boyles was observed “throttling” his friend and coworker of 20 years.

If Apes Could Talk to Atheists: How Religious Life Has More to Do With Animal Instinct Than You’d Think

But de Waal isn’t really trying to “save” religion from atheists like Dawkins; there’s much about religion that de Waal finds troubling and problematic. The big targets for de Waal are what he calls “top down morality” and human exceptionalism. Top down morality is linked to the assertion that morality comes to human life from somewhere “on high,” which might be taken to mean that human life receives its morality from a transcendent, out-of-this-world, divine.

But de Waal notes that top down morality isn’t a purely religious problem. He attacks, for example, the philosophical presumption mentioned earlier, that morality is a matter of reasoning—that we reason our way “up” to moral action or decision. Likewise, de Waal takes issue with human exceptionalism—the idea that morality is something that only humans are capable of—regardless of its origin. Religion is a target, for de Waal, to the extent that it supports each of these presumptions.

I don’t think I understand —or want to.

So there are two classes of people, the charismatic madmen, and their followers.

It was fortuitous, but it’s not like we didn’t know when their last raids had been conducted, and we could certainly expect another wave. Japanese refueling and rearming discipline was much poorer than our own from a safety standpoint. Whoops.

tbo.com

But the economy isn’t the only challenge to Komen’s fundraising efforts. The Dallas-based organization in 2012 was widely criticized for cutting its funding of Planned Parenthood. A social media firestorm led to the group changing its position, but critics on both sides remained and participation numbers dwindled.

My only comment: Good.

Chance played a great part in it. We had an inadequate scratch force, many elements of which were inadequately trained, especially for this kind of operation. Some tactics, like the high altitude B-17 attacks or the Marines’ attempts to dogfight with Zeros, had already been discredited by experience.
Equipment was inadequate in many cases, most notoriously the Mk 13 aerial torpedo.
Uncharacteristic errors by the Japanese also played a role. Through an improbable series of errors and accidents, their heretofore efficient reconnaisance was nearly a complete failure, for example.

The victory was won against enormous odds. There was a lot of luck involved, along with good intelligence and the enemy’s mistakes. To pretend otherwise is simply a falsehood, like accusing me, of all people, of doing a disservice to the heroes of the past.

It was fortuitous, but it’s not like we didn’t know when their last raids had been conducted, and we could certainly expect another wave. Japanese refueling and rearming discipline was much poorer than our own from a safety standpoint. Whoops.

And the later scholarship indicating that the “miracle” of catching them with the dive bombers right when the Japanese were about to launch a strike has since been found to be wrong. The penny-packet US strikes from Midway and the USN carriers basically had kept the IJN carriers dodging around for an extended period of time and both drawn their CAP down lower, spread it around, and run a number of fighters low on fuel. At that point the Americans got an effective attack in. And dive bombers usually can only incapacitate carriers by damaging the flight decks. Poor damage control and ordnance handling procedures is what doomed the three carriers hit in the strike.

The USN had its share of poor luck as well, including the entire strike group from the USS Hornet except for the torpedo squadron going astray and never seeing anything. The IJN was ahead of the USN at that point in coordinating their strike groups and getting multiple flight deck strikes organized.

There was a boat load of luck involved as well. During the breaking of the newer version of the code for instance.

But most especially in the sighting of the USS Nautilus by the Japanese fleet. That caused a destroyer to be detached to chase the sub for awhile. After the sub got a way the destroyer headed back to the main fleet giving McClusky the pointer needed to find the flat tops.

To say that they had good fortune is nothing against the sailors and aviators of the US fleet. One must be ready to seize the chance when luck presents itself.

There has been much new research on this battle over the past couple of years. “Shattered Sword” which is Parshall & Tully’s wonderful account of the Japanese navy at Midway is critical to understand the battle as is the even more recent “The Battle of Midway” by Craig Symonds.

All-Male House Subcommittee Votes to Restrict Abortion Nationwide

By a party line vote of 6-4, the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice approved a bill that would ban abortions nationwide after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is based on the belief that fetuses are capable of experiencing pain after 20 weeks gestation.

When Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) first proposed the legislation, it only would have covered the District of Columbia. But Franks successfully pushed for the bill to apply nationwide following the conviction of abortion provider Kermit Gosnell.

They want to sell you this load of crap that they got to where they got through only their own wits and hard work. It’s like the Romney attempt to make something out of “You didn’t build that”, Obama was actually saying that we all have help along the way to our successes and Romney tried to make it out like Obama said people don’t create their own accomplishments. They really do combine the worst of laissez-faire economics with Calvinist so-con crap.

:D

Be aware of the drainage of the property of what houses you look at, as well as the properties around them; being uphill from the Cumberland River and a couple of miles away did me and my family no damn good during the 2010 floods.

What damaged our house bad enough to have to be demolished and rebuilt was flooding from runoff. Our house sits in a low spot in what Metro Codes terms a “wet-weather conveyance”; there’s a drainage ditch that runs from at least the two streets behind us that comes out beside our house and discharges across our driveway and front yard before going back into a drainage ditch at the road, then that ditch goes another street over on its way to the Cumberland. In the May 2010 floods, floodwaters from runoff backed up into our front yard high enough that Sunday morning that it was 18”-24” deep at the front end of the house (about 3’ deep at the point in the front yard where the drainage ditch resumes at the road, which was being overtopped at that point), high enough that it was coming up through the floorboards in spots on the 1st floor.

I dunno, Christie’s a weird dude in a weird situation. He really wasn’t, pre-Sandy, a very cross-the-aisles or bipartisan guy, any more than he had to be. I don’t know if Sandy was an actual wake-up call for him or he’s just positioning himself politically.

I think he could have appointed a Democrat to serve out the term and that would have been fine, but it would have been political suicide for him so he’s have the election instead— but it may still be political suicide.

I dunno, Christie’s a weird dude in a weird situation. He really wasn’t, pre-Sandy, a very cross-the-aisles or bipartisan guy, any more than he had to be. I don’t know if Sandy was an actual wake-up call for him or he’s just positioning himself politically.

He points out that, a picture here of a newsstand and an Air Force base exchange with, you know, sexually explicit magazines being sold. So, we live in a culture that’s awash in sexual activity. If it’s not sold on base, it’s right off base. There are videos and so forth that can be obtained, and it creates some problems, I think.

In that scenario, I forsee much wailing, rending of garments and gnashing of teeth - aka; impotent tears of wingnut rage.

It would surprise me if Kennedy went that far, but its possible. Its not beyond the realm of possibility that Roberts will join the majority in striking down DOMA and Prop 8 to control the opinion and preserve the states’ right to define marriages for themselves.

re: #351 darthstar

They’re flipping their shit because we’re going to have a democratic election and not just have Christie appoint a teabagger for 18 months so they have a chance at incumbency.

It’s absolutely bizarre how everyone is flipping their shit over Christie’s decision.

1) He called for a primary and early election to fill the seat.

That led to people complaining as to the added cost of the extra elections and complaints as to why he didn’t roll it into the general election in November rather than its own standalone general election.

Well, the separate election actually gives those in the State Legislature a chance to run for the US Senate without jeopardizing their legislative seats if they lose. It also potentially gives Cory Booker a quandary as to whether to cut short his term as Newark mayor - he’s been looking to run for the Senate next year, but this throws that schedule off.

2) He didn’t come out and immediately name a right winger to replace Lautenberg - one of the staunchest liberals in the Senate. The RWNJ/TP have blown gaskets over that - ignoring that Christie is representing a state where most voters are Democrats. He’d be risking his own standing in the state with such a move. He could come out and pose a moderate GOPer, or even a conservative Democrat in the interim, but nothing less than the second coming of Reagan would do (and I seriously doubt that Zombie Reagan would survive the current extreme right wing GOP thrashing about).

3) The choice for the next couple of months doesn’t actually change much as to what’s happening in Congress. The GOP is at loggerheads with Democrats on most everything, and the President would veto anything approaching his desk that he didn’t like - like say the Obamacare repeals that the House keeps passing knowing that it’s wasting everyone’s time (and money). Immigration might get done, but there’s enough of a crossover in the Senate that the seat might not make a difference.

If Booker enters early to run this year, he’d be the odds on favorite next year. People bitching about him quitting early to run ignore that circumstances and events change - and he couldn’t have foreseen this particular outcome (well, actually anyone who had been following Lautenberg knew he was in bad health and shouldn’t have run for reelection in the first place, but we’re past that…). Booker’s got name recognition and should do well statewide against anyone that the state GOP throws his way - and there’s no one really who mounts much of a threat.

One Pop Culture lost their biscuits in speculating about who will be the next Doctor:

The Companion Doctor?

So if none of the above get the gig, should we be expecting another middle-aged white actor to step into the role of the Doctor? Not necessarily. Moffat and his producers could execute the biggest swerve of all, and transform Jenna-Louise Coleman from Doctor’s companion to Doctor.

At 27 Coleman is young, and, of course, is a woman. The switch from companion to Doctor would be an interesting one, and no doubt upset many fans. But then again, whoever is chosen will probably upset someone. Just imagine if Matt Smith faces his final battle, with Clara alongside him, and they both fall, with the Doctor losing his companion then beginning to regenerate. When the wibbly-wobbly magic of regeneration is done, just imagine those big brown eyes of Clara looking up at you. Tell me that wouldn’t be kind of cool?

In the world of Doctor Who, Clara inserted herself into every moment of the Doctor’s history, and eventually found herself in the depths of the Doctor’s timeline, where the Doctor himself said that everything and everyone was him. Surely there is there plenty of room in that storyline to explain how Clara can become the Doctor? Right?

Coleman has won over just about everyone with her portrayal of Clara, and has shown she has the charm, wit and depth to star in the show. Could she make the step from sidekick to superhero?

Essentially:Doctor-Donna on steroids. Also, Freudian shit goin’ on.

One thing I have learned out of this: News Organizations dedicated to media are shit. Also, noticing Social Activists using Doctor Who as a football.

Yes, the optics are kind of bad considering that gay rights have advanced under this administration more than any other, but I think they have a point, that it’s all come about out of a heel dragging, almost begrudging political calculus instead of any real sense of right and wrong.

Now there’s an argument to be made that the sort of slow and steady approach through the courts that Obama has taken is going to make gay rights almost impossible to repeal once they’re fully established, and that’s pretty much where I stand on the issue. On the other hand I’m not gay, and this isn’t my life being treated like a football, so at the same time I can see where someone like this lady has a right to be very, very angry and frustrated right now.

The plantation house slaves analogy is ugly and unnecessary, and not even a good analogy.

I wouldn’t blame any gay person for not supporting the Democrats if they decide ethics takes precedence over practicality, but in all practical reality gay rights will increase in proportion to Democrats getting national influence. I say national, because a dirty not so secret is that, especially in the South, it’s fine for Democrats to be anti-gay too.

I think that the speed with with the military has adopted to post-DADT shows that Obama has committed at least a lot of thought to his slow-and-steady approach, even if I think he could have been a lot more aggressive.

Any way, heckling his wife isn’t going to make him go “You know, I really should move faster on gay rights”.

I agree with everything. My only point is that as straight men it’s intrinsically easier to look at this from a purely pragmatic point of view, and that I can understand why people who’ve been working towards their own equality for their entire adult lives are getting more than a little bit impatient.

And it’s not just in the South either. One thing that really pissed off gay rights supporters this week was seeing staunch, long term supporters like Feinstein cave on an amendment that would have allowed gays to sponsor their partners for immigration. Rightly or wrongly they’re just really, really sick of having their support taken for granted by people who’ve, in any honest analysis, only done the bare minimum in support of their cause.

Oh, sure. As I said: I wouldn’t blame any gay person for not supporting the Democrats if they decide ethics takes precedence over practicality.

It is just an other “Obama is lying” video. Don’t bother.
