Breitbart: Obama’s Claim That Immigration Bill Requires English Is Untrue, Except That It’s True

These people are not right in the head
Wingnuts • Views: 29,711

Meanwhile, at breitbart.com, propagandist Matthew Boyle makes the categorical statement: OBAMA’S CLAIM THAT IMMIGRATION BILL REQUIRES ILLEGAL ALIENS TO LEARN ENGLISH UNTRUE!

Then he proceeds to thoroughly beclown himself, explaining that yes, the bill does require learning English. These people. And check out the nice photo they found to go with this stupid article:

In his weekly address, President Barack Obama claimed the Senate “Gang of Eight” immigration bill would require illegal immigrants to learn English to earn their citizenship.

“This bill would provide a pathway to earned citizenship for the 11 million individuals who are already in this country illegally—a pathway that includes passing a background check, learning English, paying taxes and a penalty, and then going to the back of the line behind everyone who’s playing by the rules and trying to come here legally,” Obama said.

While that claim would quell a lot of criticism of the bill if it were true, it simply is not accurate.

As Breitbart News has previously reported, when illegal immigrants apply for “registered provisional immigrant” status under the provisions of the bill, the first step in legalization, they do not need to demonstrate that they can speak English. When they apply for renewal of their RPI status, they still do not need to prove they can speak English.

Only when illegal immigrants apply for their “legal permanent resident” status, or green card, would they be required to demonstrate their ability to speak English or prove that they are currently enrolled in a course “to achieve an understanding of English and knowledge and understanding” of civics.

The requirement that immigrants must learn English is not new to this legislation, either.

Oh, I see — it’s “untrue,” except that it’s true. Got it.

I think I get it. Prospective immigrants don’t have to demonstrate proficiency in English at every step of the immigration process. They only have to demonstrate proficiency in English at some steps of the immigration process.

Obviously, these mini-Barts never have to demonstrate proficiency in English comprehension or logic.

The idea is that by the time you’re ready to apply for citizenship, you should be proficient in English. Boyle’s trying to argue that the fact that the provisional status doesn’t require as such as part of the application process means Obama’s lying.

17 Targetpractice  Sat, Jun 8, 2013 4:08:07pm

Thing is that there’s really little chance that this bill will ever see the president’s desk. On the Senate side you have Rubio saying out loud that unless a slew of right-leaning amendments to the bill get approved, he’s voting against it. Yesterday he was joined by a fellow Latino from Idaho saying aloud that there’s no way they’ll allow provisional immigrants from taking part in Obamacare despite the unsaid reality that the provisional folks will still be paying taxes and still be visiting hospitals.

And on the House side…shit, let’s be honest, this bill’s going nowhere without Boehner violating the “Hastert Rule” yet again. The House GOP live in such fear of their base and the possibility of being primaried next year that they’re more likely to pass a bill requiring the immediate deportation of anybody who looks the least bit brown than agree to allowing a single undocumented worker to apply for citizenship.

Common for attack videos. When such videos are made by a union, the objective is to show the target to be an anti-worker ogre. When made by an employer, they aim to show the union as economically illiterate thugs who care for nothing except wringing the last ounce of money and benefits out of their employer.

Giuliani replaced the FireFighters radios that were defective with a no bid contract to a friend of his and those radios turned out to be defective and the Firefighters didn’t get the radio call to evacuate the towers.

49 Gus  Sat, Jun 8, 2013 4:36:57pm

re: #48 Tigger2

Giuliani replaced the FireFighters radios that were defective with a no bid contract to a friend of his and those radios turned out to be defective and the Firefighters didn’t get the radio call to evacuate the towers.

Radio Failure “Not the Primary Cause”

Nobody can say how many firefighters in the North Tower received the evacuation order and how many didn’t. But, contrary to the impression left by the video, a number of firefighters did hear the orders on their radios. According to the 9/11 Commission, “at least 24 of the at most 32 companies who were dispatched to and actually in the North Tower received the evacuation instruction - either via radio or directly from other first responders.” The commission report states that two battalion chiefs on the 23rd and 35th floors not only heard an evacuation instruction on the command channel but repeated it to everyone they came across. The chief on the 35th floor shouted repeatedly over a bullhorn, “All FDNY, get the f*** out!”

It’s true that the 9/11 Commission estimate leaves the possibility that as many as six companies did not receive the order to evacuate. “Some firefighters described receiving a radio message to evacuate; others used strong language to characterize the communications gear as useless,” said a September 2005 story in the New York Times describing post-9/11 oral histories of firefighters that had just been released. The oral histories included those of 58 firefighters who escaped from the North Tower.

Indeed, some radios did not pick up transmissions because they just didn’t work very well in a high-rise building. But other factors were at work as well, such as the previously mentioned absence of a constantly repeated “mayday, mayday, mayday” order that is specified for situations when a building is about to collapse. Also, hundreds of firefighters were trying to crowd onto a single channel - Tactical 1. The commission quoted a lieutenant on the 31st floor of the North Tower as saying, “[Tactical] channel 1 just might have been so bogged down that it may have been impossible to get that order through.”

Furthermore, some firefighters in the North Tower were off-duty when the attacks took place, and they rushed into the building without any radios at all. Finally, the commission found it likely that some firefighters were using a different tactical channel in all the confusion.

The 9/11 Commission ultimately concluded that “the technical failure of FDNY radios, while a contributing factor, was not the primary cause of the many firefighter fatalities in the North Tower.” Families of the firefighters who died on 9-11 have strongly disagreed with that finding. However, the commission based its conclusion on more than 100 interviews it conducted directly, plus transcripts of 500 additional interviews that the fire department had conducted.

50 Gus  Sat, Jun 8, 2013 4:37:46pm
The towers lost power and communications capability. Generators had to be shut down to ensure safety, and elevators stopped. The public-address system and emergency lighting systems failed. The unlit stairwells filled with smoke and were so dark as to be impassable. Rescue efforts by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) were hampered by the inability of its radios to function in buildings as large as the Twin Towers. The 911 emergency call system was overwhelmed. The general evacuation of the towers’ occupants via the stairwells took more than four hours.

National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States

…Radio Communication Challenges:The Effectiveness and Urgency of Evacuation Instructions. As discussed above, the location of the NYPD ESU command post was crucial in making possible an urgent evacuation order explaining the South Tower’s full collapse. Firefighters most certainly would have benefited from that information.

A separate matter is the varied success at conveying evacuation instructions to personnel in the North Tower after the South Tower’s collapse. The success of NYPD ESU instruction is attributable to a combination of (1) the strength of the radios, (2) the relatively small numbers of individuals using them, and (3) use of the correct channel by all.

The same three factors worked against successful communication among FDNY personnel. First, the radios’ effectiveness was drastically reduced in the high-rise environment. Second, tactical channel 1 was simply overwhelmed by the number of units attempting to communicate on it at 10:00. Third, some firefighters were on the wrong channel or simply lacked radios altogether.

It is impossible to know what difference it made that units in the North Tower were not using the repeater channel after 10:00. While the repeater channel was at least partially operational before the South Tower collapsed, we do not know whether it continued to be operational after 9:59.

Even without the repeater channel, at least 24 of the at most 32 companies who were dispatched to and actually in the North Tower received the evacuation instruction-either via radio or directly from other first responders. Nevertheless, many of these firefighters died, either because they delayed their evacuation to assist civilians, attempted to regroup their units, lacked urgency, or some combination of these factors. In addition, many other firefighters not dispatched to the North Tower also died in its collapse. Some had their radios on the wrong channel. Others were off-duty and lacked radios. In view of these considerations, we conclude that the technical failure of FDNY radios, while a contributing factor, was not the primary cause of the many firefighter fatalities in the North Tower.209

The FDNY has worked hard in the past several years to address its radio deficiencies. To improve radio capability in high-rises, the FDNY has internally developed a “post radio” that is small enough for a battalion chief to carry to the upper floors and that greatly repeats and enhances radio signal strength.210

The story with respect to Port Authority police officers in the North Tower is less complicated; most of them lacked access to the radio channel on which the Port Authority police evacuation order was given. Since September 11, the Port Authority has worked hard to integrate the radio systems of their different commands.

Here’s some more information about some American citizens who don’t speak English.

New Mexico used to be New Spain. A bunch of Spanish speakers moved here. The capital of the state, Santa Fe (which is Spanish for ‘holy faith’) was founded in 1610. Later, this was Mexico for about 20 years. Then, in a move that some people are still peeved about, the United States bought half of Mexico, and this area became a US territory. Most of the Spanish speakers stayed here and raised families, teaching their kids Spanish. Spanish is still spoken by many residents of the state. Most Spanish speakers also speak English. English is the most common language now, followed closely by Spanglish, followed by Spanish, followed by Navajo. When it was admitted as a state to the US, New Mexico was officially bilingual.

Don’t get me started on Whole Foods.

Also, a bunch of Native American languages are spoken here. They precede Spanish.

Interestingly, much of this history is paralleled in Arizona, but they don’t seems as proud of it. In fact, many Arizonans are complete assholes on the subject. They even told a woman who was elected to a city council in a town that had 60% Spanish speakers that she couldn’t hold office because her English wasn’t good enough, even though they provided translation services for the council members whose Spanish wasn’t good enough to understand their constituents.

Meh. He won’t pay attention to it. Nobody listens much on Twitter unless we already agree on something. Even if you point out stuff like, facts.

Facts like the fact the 911 commission didn’t point out a single flaw with the NYPD radios? It’s true that the fire department radios not working in the twin towers was cited as a problem in 1993. It’s true that Rudy got them replaced on a no bid contract and they still failed, unlike the police radios (so the size of the building isn’t really a valid excuse.)

As of 2001, the NYPD used Ultra High Frequency (UHF) radios and divided the city into 35 radio zones. Most hand-held radios had at least 20 channels: while not all officers had all channels, all officers had the ability to communicate citywide.[9] As a characteristic of physics, UHF signals penetrate buildings better than lower Very High Frequency (VHF) frequencies used by the FDNY fire units but generally cover shorter distances over open terrain. The Commission report did not cite any technical flaws with the NYPD radio system.

This part:

Footnotes to the 911 Commission Report.

NYPD, not FDNY. The fire department radios were still dysfunctional, a problem identified in 1993 and specifically not fixed in Rudy’s no bid procurement.

An oral history interview revealed the Port Authority UHF radios were normally used at incidents inside the World Trade Center. The interviewee said in normal, day-to-day calls, the WTC staff handed Port Authority UHF radios to firefighters on their arrival and that these radios, “worked all over.” [18] This implies, but does not prove, that it was common knowledge among department members that FDNY radios had coverage problems inside the buildings. The 9-11 Commission uses the phrase, “performed poorly” to describe FDNY radios during the incident.

So the Commission didn’t find fault with the police radios and did find fault with the fire department system. The report of WTC staff previous policy of handing Port Authority Police radios to firefighters on routine calls to the towers supports the idea that this was a continuing, known problem.

I used to hate disco back then. Now, I actually kind of like some of the songs. Abba being one. I know, maybe I’m a dorky old guy now. But I’ve settled on liking whatever I think sounds good which is a lot of music but generally excludes a) smooth jazz b) pop country c) boy bands d) elevator music.

I cried when they shot John Lennon
Tears ran down my spine
And I cried when I saw “JFK”
As though I’d lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X and Ice-T had it coming
They got what they asked for this time

CHORUS
So love me, love me, love me
I’m a liberal

I go to pro-choice rallies
Recycle my cans and jars
I’ll honk if you love the Dead
Hope those funny grunge bands become stars
But don’t talk about revolution
That’s going a little bit too far

CHORUS

I cheered when Clinton was chosen
My faith in the system reborn
I’ll do anything to save our schools
If my taxes ain’t too much more
And I love blacks and gays and Latinos
As long as they don’t move next door

CHORUS

Rush Limbaugh and the L.A.P.D.
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can’t understand where they’re at
Arsenio should set them straight
But if Neigborhood Watch doesn’t know you
I hope the cops take your name

CHORUS

Yeh, I read the New Republic(an)
Rolling Stone and Mother Jones too
If I vote it’s a Democrat
With a sensible economy view
But when it comes to terrorist Arabs
There’s no one more red, white and blue

CHORUS

Once I was young and had an attitude
Stickers covered the car I drove in
Even went on some direct actions
When there weren’t rent-a-cops to be seen
Ah, but now I’ve grown older and wiser
And that’s why I’m turning you in

Put one of these in the greenhouse, if it’s close enough. It provides your domestic hot water and acts as a 6000 btu airconditioner for the space around it. There is a competitor, I think, but this is GEs second generation.

I’ll have to look into that, I haven’t seen those before. Cool idea. However, my homemade system uses copper tubing and a fan (basically a radiator). I use cool water stored in the basement. I started with 50 gallons but upgraded to 150 by daisy chaining barrels together, but still the water heats up too much after a couple hours. It’s a surprising efficient system for something home made but I think the amount of water I’d need for ballast might be just too much.

Nope, USPS is still good…they actually started delivering at around noon a couple of months ago…used to be we were lucky to see mail delivered before the sun set.

UPS is my fave. If he has a delivery and it’s really not safe to make the attempt on my road (flash flood or winter storm) he calls me and asks if it’s ok to leave my stuff at the farm supply in town (yes, it is). Otherwise, he’s here delivering to my doorstep, which is better than USPS that delivers to a box waaaaay down the road.

In the early 70s I had some UK work that took me to Gullet Gap, KY. After the second time I mired-in (in Summer) I asked a local how they got their mail in Winter.

Mule.

MSNBC host:

I think the point is that Rudy is a dishonest hypocritical partisan hack shithead if he insists on blaming Obama directly for the deaths in Benghazi.

Yeah, Obama and Hillary wanted those 4 people to die. Only a right wing fuckwad with extreme ODS would believe such tripe. And it’s also idiotic to think Rudy, as much of a douche partisan hatchet man as he is, wanted firefighters to die.

Oh, I see — it’s “untrue,” except that it’s true. Got it.

Ah, I see we are back to the logical rhetorical twist. Untrue and NOT-True are two different animals. Like Innocent and NOT-Guilty, Abortion and NOT-Abortion (Beatriz’s C-Section) are concepts encountered in a PHIl Logic 101. A freshman college class.

Perhaps those who do math understand such things as well.

I REALLY, REALLY don’t think the Breitbart’s audience does.

But then, all is fair in Rhetoric and Religion.
