Tea Party Rally in DC - a Total Flop, but Still Plenty of Nazi Imagery

The far right wingnut crowd has dwindled to nothing
Wingnuts • Views: 42,005

C-SPAN3 is broadcasting a live feed from the Teabagger hate rally now underway.

The turnout is pitiful; here’s an overhead crowd shot.

Speaking right now: Rick Morlen of the Albuquerque Tea Party group:

Also, here’s some more of that Nazi imagery they keep saying never appears at Tea Party rallies:

(Correction: it’s very similar, but Morlen’s hat isn’t a Confederate general’s hat - it’s a cavalry officer’s hat. Sorry for the confusion.)

I love the Confederate imagery. Nothing says “freedom” and “patriotism” like honoring those who started a war that killed hundreds of thousands of Americans because they lost a free and fair election and were afraid they would no longer be able to keep other human beings as farm equipment.

It’s always kind of amused me that the clearest example we have of those fabled ‘2nd amendment remedies’ in history is an example of those people getting curbstomped.

Even the Freepers are having a hard time working up enthusiasm. More discussion of whether the crowd is small and/or unengaged than of any of the speakers or topics.

15 Feline Fearless Leader  Wed, Jun 19, 2013 10:59:15am

Well, not a “Confederate General’s” hat. Just looks like a slouch hat with cavalry insignia (crossed sabres) and a Lt Colonel’s rank insignia (silver leaf). The CSA didn’t use that since they did officer’s rank via the collar markings* and the Union at that time I think indicated rank via the shoulder strap markings.

* - And even then they didn’t use the golf leaf/silver leaf markings for major and Lt Col. One star (large) was major; two stars was Lt Col, three stars was a Colonel. Three stars in a wreath was the collar marking for all four ranks of general.

Weird…

Glendon Scott Crawford, Eric Feight Charged With Conspiracy To Provide Support To Terrorists

ALBANY, N.Y. — Federal authorities on Wednesday accused two upstate New York men of assembling a portable X-ray weapon that they intended to use to secretly sicken opponents of Israel.

Prosecutors said 49-year-old Glendon Scott Crawford, of Galway, and 54-year-old Eric J. Feight, of Hudson, have been charged with conspiracy to provide support to terrorists following a yearlong undercover investigation.

Investigators said Crawford approached Jewish organizations looking for people to help him with technology that could be used to surreptitiously deliver damaging and even lethal doses of radiation against those he considered enemies of Israel. They assembled the mobile device, which was to be controlled remotely, but it was inoperable and nobody was hurt.

Americans hate terrorists and love our kids, right? So you might be shocked to know that preschoolers with guns have taken more lives so far this year than the single U.S. terrorist attack, which claimed four lives in Boston.

This is admittedly tongue-in-cheek, but one has to wonder if the NSA’s PRISM program would have saved more lives had it been monitoring toddlers - or gun owners - rather than suspected terrorists.

4. The federal budget is bracing itself for a burst of elderly Americans that will have to be supported by younger people in the workforce. The fact that the foreign-born population skews younger than the native-born population could prove to be a respite for government entitlement programs.

GOP Rep Suggests Classes To Teach Kids About Gender Roles

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) suggested Tuesday that young boys and girls should be enrolled in classes to educate them on gender roles so that they can learn “what’s important.”

“Maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important,” Gingrey said on the House floor, while defending the Defense of Marriage Act.

He went on: “This is what a father does that is may be a little different, maybe — maybe a little different, maybe a little better than the talent that mom has in a certain area and same things for the young girls, you know, this is what a mom does and this is what’s important from the standpoint of that union. Which we call marriage. And we have called that since the beginning of this country and long before the beginning of this country.”

Fuck you Phil.

Speaking of the teabaggers, this sounds like something up their alley:

‘Spanking for Jesus’ Is Exactly as Fucked Up as It Sounds

Christian Domestic Discipline, or CDD as its adherents call it, is a movement that seeks to carry out God’s will. Which specific plan of God’s? Oh, you know, just that all women obey their husbands fastidiously — a dynamic that CDD thinks is best maintained through doling out out corporal punishments. Its few thousand practitioners, however, claim that it’s not domestic abuse.

The Christian Domestic Discipline Yahoo! group, which is private, opens with a quote from Hebrews 12:11: “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” And, whom are we to train into righteousness and peace? Women only (duh)! The group’s description goes on to say, “We offer a LOVING approach to all who wish to learn and grow in a traditional Male, head of household, female submissive, Christian Domestic Discipline relationship.”

Now, I’m all for some good, consensual kink between couples. Let your freak flag fly as long as everyone’s on board with the idea, IMO. But there’s no way you can tell me that this is anything but abuse wrapped up in religion.

GLEN BECK!

Glenn Beck Is Luring Christians Into Islamo-Mormon Deistic Universalism

Yesterday’s TruNews radio broadcast with Rick Wiles was entirely dedicated to an interview with right-wing anti-Islam activist Walid Shoebat and his son Theodore during which the three of them attacked … Glenn Beck!

That’s right, according to the Shoebats, Beck is a practitioner of “Chrislam,” meaning that he is luring his viewers away from true Christianity and into a dangerous Islamo-Mormon deistic universalism with the help of Religious Right leaders such as James Robison, Franklin Graham, and David Barton.

As Theodore explained, Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, considered himself to be a second Muhammad, which is why, Walid said, LDS members will not proselytize to Muslims since “basically they have the same faith”:

Steve King: Secret income is ‘part of freedom’

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) on Wednesday told a tea party rally that the Internal Revenue Service should be abolished because keeping income secret from the federal government was “part of freedom.”

“You know, the IRS audited me one too many years in a row,” King explained at a Tea Party Patriots rally in Washington D.C. “And I wondered, ‘Why are they in my kitchen, why are they looking through my books, why are they asking me these Monday morning quarterback questions?’ And I went back out and climbed back into the seat of my old bulldozer and the smoke went out the exhaust stack and my ears. And I thought, ‘I’d like to get rid of the IRS.’”

“I don’t need them poking through my books, I don’t need them telling my pastor or my priest what he’s going to be able to preach from the pulpit,” he continued. “In fact, it’s not even the government’s business how much money you make. That’s a part of freedom.”

Ehhh… I may get yelled at for this, but Confederate cosplay is sufficiently different from calling your enemies Nazis that lumping them together as “the imagery that was used at the rallies” just dilutes what you’re saying.

It gives the pro-rally people a quick, easy, and potentially convincing rebuttal (as seen above) because it seems to imply that ralliers were dressing up like Nazis. (Interesting that this is an easier mistake to make than if they were accused of using witch doctor or Communist imagery…) I mean, I know what you mean, but I think rhetorically it’s a misstep.

I agree that the GOP is doing its best to make the US ungovernable. E.g., the debt ceiling debacle.

There is also no apparent path by which the GOP could become more sane. In the past, parties have gotten the message when they lose a presidential race by a 45+ state blowout. That can’t happen these days. Any GOP candidate (or any Dem candidate) starts with well over 100 electoral votes that simply have no chance of going to the other party.

Way I look at it is that each party seems like it will get 45% of the vote in a GE. It’s the remaining ten percent that shows who wins. The changing demographics show to me that the GOP will have a hard time getting a majority of that ten percent. On the other hand, they’re doing just enough to convince themselves that their message isn’t the problem despite only really being the majority party for Whites, Males, and Protestants.

@DRUDGE_REPORT: President makes ‘alarming call for end to Catholic education’… drudge.tw

The link isn’t to an actual news report, but an op-ed masquerading as news. Taking the President’s statements in Northern Ireland out of context (shocking, I know), and calling on the Irish to put down their prejudices, which get perpetuated by a separate but equal education system where the Catholics have their schools, the Protestants have theirs, and there’s no mixing or middle ground. End the separation, begin integrating the schools, and the old prejudices will begin to go away.

It will take time, especially if our own civil rights record is any indication.

But some folks not only seem interested in setting back civil rights, but are hoping for a wholesale reversal of all that’s been achieved since the start of the modern civil rights movement.

But they do want FEDERAL government when they are in control. So for a lot of them it isn’t the level - it’s who is sitting behind the desk making the commands and reaping the benefits. Especially when it allows them to keep their own little fiefs where they can lord over others and take from them freely.

Texas Senate OKs bill aimed at closing nearly every abortion clinic in the state

Republicans on Tuesday passed a slate of new abortion restrictions by a vote of 20 to 10 that critics say will force all but five of the state’s abortion clinics to shut their doors forever.

S.B. 5 would require abortion clinics to hire doctors with hospital admitting privileges, mandate that abortion clinics become licensed as ambulatory surgical centers and force doctors to administer medication that causes abortions in person, rather than through a prescription.

All three measures were ditched by Republicans during the normal session due to the two-thirds requirement, which cemented the need for Democratic support. The special session requires only a simple majority for bills to pass, prompting Democrats to accuse Texas Republicans of using a loophole to pass their most brazenly partisan agenda items.

Really even if I were more economically right wing, I’d want nothing to do with the GOP. One, because their economic “conservatism” and fiscal “conservatism” is fraudlent bs, two because their retrograde so-con bullshit would totally override anything close I would have to having agreeing with them on taxes and spending. They’re hopeless. We’ve discussed this before but the GOP if they wnat to survive long term needs a landslide to be told once and for all that their message sucks the big one. THey need to go all out and nominate someone like Santorum to totally put the bs message that not conservative is the problem once and for all.

Let’s say for a moment that I happened to agree with right-wing fiscal policy. I don’t, but let’s pretend for a moment.

I would still have to weight their fiscal policy against the idea that they believe some of my friends don’t deserve the same rights as everyone else. That they think their “small gub’mint” should have a say in what plants I can and can’t smoke, and what time of the day on certain days of the week I can purchase alcohol. That men should have the legal right to dictate to women what they can and can’t do with their bodies. That it’s okay for me to have sex with a random stranger for no established reason at all, but as soon as I give them money for it it becomes a crime.

These and so many other things. The people in that party that have strong economic beliefs sabotage themselves every day that they remain aligned with stone-age social reactionaries.

Kickstarter pick-up guide tells men: ‘Pull out your c-ck and put her hand on it’

The online fundraising site Kickstarter came under criticism on Wednesday for giving a platform to a project encouraging men to become “modern alpha males” based on online advice that included putting womens’ hands on their penises.

Feministing reported that “Above The Game,” a book project proposed by Reddit user Ken Hoinsky, had raised more than $16,000 in funding as of Wednesday afternoon, far surpassing its original goal of $2,000 and seemingly ensuring the book will be published.

“It’s designed to be easy to understand, quick to read and full of inspirational advice that gets people out there actually practicing and talking to women,” Hoinsky said in the introductory video for the project posted on Kickstarter.

In the written project description, Hoinsky said that while some of the book’s content will be original, other sections will be taken from “the best material” he posted on Reddit’s “seduction” community, which he described in the video as a sub-site where “a bunch of men who are going through similar issues in their life come and exchange tips and stories and their experience and try to help each other out.”

The film is billed as delivering “a grand-scale exposé with breathtaking implications.”

re: #314 FemNaziBitch

I’ve learned that weight has little to do with health. A person can have a “socially acceptable’ appearance and be very unhealthy and vice versa.

Focusing on weight does little to help people.

It is very true that it is entirely possible to be thin and drastically unhealthy (alcoholism, drug abuse, anorexia), and that it is entirely possible to be obese and be relatively healthy compared to some thin people. But I believe that there is far too much being done to make being overweight ‘acceptable’ despite the serious health risks that obesity poses by its very nature. There is a lot of abuse going on — abusing the notion that picking at flaws in a person is wrong, I mean — to excuse living an unhealthy lifestyle in the quest to not harm anyone’s feelings.

To wit: There are a lot of very overweight people out there that could be doing something about it. But they set their minds firmly in the camp of “it’s wrong for other people to judge me based on my weight, so I won’t do anything to change it”.

I’m not saying that obesity is a singular cause to rally against. Given an obese person that was also an alcoholic or addicted to some hard drugs, I would certainly advising fixing their substance problem before worrying about their weight. But once that’s handled, the incidences of a person being very overweight are, by and large in the vast majority, the results of that person’s choices and actions rather than ‘genetics’ or any of the myriad other reasons that people use to excuse it.

TWA 800 - back in the news

Here’s the NTSB report:

ntsb.gov

The problem with documentary films is that it’s easy to present what looks like a compelling case by just presenting one narrow perspective on a very complex situation. The filmakers claim: “the radar data shows a(n) asymmetric explosion coming out of that plane” and I’m sure they will show something that could have multiple interpretations, but they will present only one, and then combine it with eyewitness recollections to make wat seems like an unassailable case.

Tom Stalcup has been doing this for years. This is his site:
flight800.org

He uses a similar line of reasoning to 9/11 truthers to ensure it’s impossible to ever fully debunk his suggestions:

Quote Content from external source:

During the investigation, the FBI unlawfully denied the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) access to forensic results and eyewitness interview documents. Without access to evidence and analyses withheld by the FBI, the NTSB’s final report is incomplete and its conclusions are in doubt.

For chrissakes, just legalize prostitution, then they can just pay a woman to let them think he is “dominant” for an hour and then go home…

Fine plan, but make sure the prostitutes are in a good working situation. Having recently driven through Nye County, NV, the (legal) brothels looked horribly sad and run down. Not having stopped in, I couldn’t say what the working conditions were, but I will say 3 out of 4 we drove by were sufficiently remote that someone working there might have trouble leaving without “permission”.

re: #348 First As Tragedy, Then As Farce

Our history isn’t nearly as bizarre. Pre-revolution Russian history is weirder than any science fiction ever written.

The biggest eye-opener to me was Tibor Szamuely’s The Russian Tradition, which makes it clear that while we in the West use the words “freedom” and “independence” as interchangeable synonyms, to the Russians they are almost opposites: to ensure their independence from foreign powers, they were compelled to give up their freedoms to a ruler who had the power to defend them.

That makes it very difficult to understand their approach to anything we consider “democracy” in the Western sense.

FINALLY! A VERIFIED CASE OF VOTER FRAUD!

Virginia Republican pleads guilty to dozens of counts of voter fraud

A Virginia Republican and supporter of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) pleaded guilty on Tuesday to perjury and 36 counts of voter fraud.

Adam Ward, 28, claimed he collected more than 11,000 petition signatures for Gingrich during the Republican presidential primaries, in an effort to ensure the candidate’s embattled campaign had a spot on the state’s ballot. Over 4,000 of those petition signatures turned out to be fake, according to NBC News affiliate WVIR-TV.

Obviously this proves the need for Voter ID laws.

re: #344 GunstarGreen

I guess I see extreme obesity and “overweight” as being two different things. There are plenty of “sturdy women” who come from long lines of “sturdy women” who are perfectly healthy and active. Same for me. The beer belly, red face scenario that was the original example is (IMHO) a sign of bad health —but the man’s weight is a symptom, not the only factor.

Shaming the person for their weight will not help —only reinforce negative emotions they are mostly likely already feeling.

I tend to advise a full physical to rule-out diabetes, thyroid, depression, etc.

I have big problems with people who think negative peer pressure will help anyone.

Yes, I am referring specifically to obesity and not ‘overweight’, insofar as it is defined according to BMI. Not everyone has the natural body structure of a supermodel — and most supermodels didn’t either, before significant surgery. BMI is a guideline, not a hard-science, and there are plenty of perfectly-healthy people that are ‘overweight’ according to those charts. But an adult human should not weigh 300+ pounds, and in the cases where one does it is usually the result of habits that could be changed, if they truly wanted to. There are exceptions to every rule, of course.

My wife is obese, heavy set, ok she’s a fat chick. Her BP is great, cholesterol is great, no sign of Diabetes etc. She is perfectly healthy she’s just big. I really, really get annoyed with people telling others how they should live their lives and would tell my wife (or any overweight person for that matter) what and how to live unless it’s their doctor. Hell by the current “standard” bmi I am “obese” yet I am in decent shape.

Just like I don’t think republicans have a right to tell a woman what she does with her body I really can’t stand people telling someone they should just lose weight.

There can be physical conditions that can be treated at the root, thyroid seems to be a common cause—as is diabetes. I have cousins with some genetic thyroid disorder—all are on thyroid meds and have a horrible, horrible time keeping weight off. All are big, big girls.

I had an experience when I was in college that has guided my view of obesity. My older cousin treated me to dinner at a nicer restaurant that I could not afford . She was dressed professionally and I was in typical college garb. The waiter only spoke to me and at the end of the dinner handed me the bill.

Not long before that Oprah did a “fat suit” show and showed how large people (not necessarily obese) were treated.

I saw it happen right in front of me.

My cousin was the obvious payer of the dinner —yet the waiter didn’t seem to want a tip from a overweight person.

Somehow, she and her sisters manage to have college degrees, husbands, kids and full lives —weight is only an issue when others make it so.

The researchers found no difference between the racial attitudes of the general white population and self-identified tea party members. Those who had a favorable view of the tea party, on the other hand, were in fact more likely to admit to holding anti-black sentiments.

[…]

Maxwell and Parent, however, did find that negative attitudes towards African Americans and racial stereotypes were linked to disapproval of Obama, suggesting an potential indirect link between racial animus and tea party membership.

The link between racial animus and favorable opinions of the tea party movement was clearer. Tea party supporters were more likely than the general white population to agree with statements like, “It is really a matter of some people not trying hard enough; if blacks would only try harder, they could be just as well off as whites” and disagree with statements like, “Generations of slavery and discrimination have created conditions that make it difficult for blacks to work their way out of the lower class.”

Microsoft Is Removing Xbox One DRM

This could be the biggest backtrack in gaming history: Microsoft will reverse course on their DRM policies for Xbox One, dropping their 24-hour Internet check-in requirement and all restrictions on used games.

It still won’t make me buy a new console at launch. Screw that noise. Imma wait for the inevitable price drops and for some games to actually be released first.

Los Angeles’ school system, the second largest in the United States, is ordering iPads for all its students, handing Apple a major success in its quest to make the tablet computer a replacement for textbooks.

The Los Angeles Board of Education on Tuesday approved the purchase of $30 million worth of iPads as the first part of a multi-year commitment. It found that the iPad was the least expensive option that met its specifications.

Of interest:

The average consumer unit has only heard of them recently, but drones go back back a way. Even the use of surveillance drones is nothing new:
MQM-57 Falconer

A variant of the BTT designated the RP-71,[1] later known as the MQM-57 Falconer, was built for battlefield reconnaissance, with first flight in 1955. The Falconer was similar in appearance to the Shelduck, but had a slightly longer and stockier fuselage. It had an autopilot system with radio-control backup, and could carry cameras, as well as illumination flares for night reconnaissance. Equipment was loaded through a hump in the back between the wings. Although it only had an endurance of a little more than a half-hour, making it of limited use, about 1,500 Falconers were built and the type was used internationally with several different military forces, remaining in service into the 1970s.

Pilotless photo drone takes aerial pictures (Popular Mechanics June 1954)

Helicopter drones? An example from the same period, armed no less.
QH-50 DASH

The Ryan 147 series, derived from a target drone, was used with notable success in Vietnam. Most of these had film cameras or electronic monitoring/jamming equipment, but some had video cameras for real time surveillance.

Two U.S. Navy landing craft up for auction; each seats 200, and a tank

An auction of the two LCM-8s, capable of plowing through surf onto a beach, opening a ramp and unleashing an amphibious assault, began Tuesday and ends Thursday afternoon on the govliquidation.com website, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Bids started at $25 but reached $13,300 and $15,500 by late Wednesday afternoon.

The landing craft, each 74 feet long, 21 feet wide and made of welded steel, can carry up to 200 people and one M60 tank, and might be appropriate for cruising Lake Michigan, involvement in Caribbean scuba tours or staging a D-Day invasion, the newspaper noted.

Now, this novel sounds good:

Children of the Jacaranda Tree

Neda is born in Tehran’s Evin Prison, where her mother is allowed to nurse her for a few months before the arms of a guard appear at the cell door one day and, simply, take her away. In another part of the city, three-year-old Omid witnesses the arrests of his political activist parents from his perch at their kitchen table, yogurt dripping from his fingertips. More than twenty years after the violent, bloody purge that took place inside Tehran’s prisons, Sheida learns that her father was one of those executed, that the silent void firmly planted between her and her mother all these years was not just the sad loss that comes with death, but the anguish and the horror of murder.

These are the Children of the Jacaranda Tree. Set in post-revolutionary Iran from 1983 to 2011, this stunning debut novel follows a group of mothers, fathers, children, and lovers, some related by blood, others brought together by the tide of history that washes over their lives. Finally, years later, it is the next generation that is left with the burden of the past and their country’s tenuous future as a new wave of protest and political strife begins.

Louisiana teen charged in ‘wrestling’ death of half sister, 5

The 13-year-old boy told them he knew wrestling on TV was fake, sheriff’s officials in a New Orleans suburb said.
But, according to authorities in Jefferson Parish, his account of practicing “WWE” style wrestling moves by punching, jumping on and slamming his 5-year-old half sister to the bed was all too real — and fatal.

Viloude Louis, 5, of Terrytown, was found unresponsive on a bathroom floor Sunday. She was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

The boy, whose name was not released by authorities because of his age, has been accused of second-degree murder; he remained in Rivarde Juvenile Dention Center on Wednesday.

He “was smiling and appeared as though he took great pride in what he was doing,” sheriff’s Col. John Fortunato told CNN on Wednesday. “He showed no remorse while he was being interviewed in the presence of his mother.”

You pretty much nailed it. Women are conditioned to believe their fathers, then their husbands, are the ultimate authority - and the men know this full well, and take full advantage of it. A common topic on Christian message boards, in fact, is the concept of spousal rape - what happens when a husband is horny and the wife absolutely isn’t? Can she say no, what should she do, etc. You can imagine how those arguments usually go.

LOLOLOL.

In the late 80s, up in Portland, Oregon, I got invited to an NOI rally by two NOI members, upon whom I apparently made a very favorable impression. Let’s say for once, I truly stood out in life, and oooh, nelly, I mean it. Fortunately, the attendees were all very nice, and I even met Farrakhan face-to-face. I didn’t hear anything anti-Semitic at this particular event, but it was the usual NOI stuff. I have to say, Farrakhan is one hell of a speaker; he’s a man who knows how to use the power of the spoken word like few others. I find his message…..bizarre, but well-delivered.

Public Speaking is a Talent that is difficult to acquire, IMHO. It takes charisma that one has to be inborn.

I find myself respecting those who use and hone that talent, even if I don’t agree with the message.

re: #506 thedopefishlives

You pretty much nailed it. Women are conditioned to believe their fathers, then their husbands, are the ultimate authority - and the men know this full well, and take full advantage of it. A common topic on Christian message boards, in fact, is the concept of spousal rape - what happens when a husband is horny and the wife absolutely isn’t? Can she say no, what should she do, etc. You can imagine how those arguments usually go.

I came across this on Reddit today on why Americans aren’t going to revolt…
reddit.com

In short Revolution requires the following things:

Actual problems

A united cause with clear objectives and solutions

A Leader or group of leaders

A trained population to commit themselves to either violence or non violence

The guy is essentially correct. Without actual problems or dangers people like to pretend. They imagine they are persecuted or that something really big is happening but deep down they know it’s not true. Glenn Beck nor his fans really believe there is a secret communist plot. Greenwald fans don’t really believe Obama’s NSA has unlimited powers to crush dissent. Deep down they know it’s not true. Just fairy stories for excitement and fun.

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) said grade-school students should be taught classes about traditional gender roles in a floor speech on Tuesday.

“You know, maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade-school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important,” Gingrey said.

Gingrey was speaking is support of the Defense of Marriage Act, currently under review by the Supreme Court.

“This is what a father does that is maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents that a mom has in a certain area. And the same thing for the young girls, that, you know, this is what a mom does, and this is what is important from the standpoint of that union which we call marriage.”

AKA the Get Your Bitch Ass in the Kitchen and Make Me a Sammich Bill. If these “talent” difference are in fact enshrined in gender, then why does that need to be taught? You’d think, if true, that would be self evident. This guy’s just another GOP bigot, and currently on track to be the next Senator from Georgia.

Sorry, you’re wrong on both counts. You’re basically just overlooking the human ability to hold contradictory thoughts in their head, though in this case it’s more of an emotion. They sincerely believe in, if not the powers themselves, the imminence of those powers. NOt all, but a lot of them. A lot of people, for example, think Obama has raised taxes on the middle class. They don’t know that’s not true deep down. They really believe it. People really believed ACORN was this evil organization that was signing up people wrongly. They really do.

They don’t have to revolt because they can elect people and they like doing that. They may run out of that liking eventually, and then we’ll have trouble.

The radicalization of the people is an actual problem, and it’s getting to be more and more of one.
