Glenn Greenwald’s Interview With Fox’s Resident Racist, Eric Bolling

Greenwald helps Fox News attack President Obama
WTF • Views: 29,758

It’s curious that Glenn Greenwald spews insults at every journalist who voices even mild criticism of his tactics (a favorite epithet is “Obama worshipper”), but then turns around and gives an interview to one of the most hateful and extreme personalities on Fox News, overt racist and Birther Eric Bolling.

YouTube

“What the Obama administration wants…is to make it so that everybody is petrified of coming forward with information about what our political officials are doing in the dark that is deceitful, illegal or corrupt,” Greenwald told Fox and Friends’ Eric Bolling. “They don’t care about Edward Snowden at this point. He can no longer do anything that he hasn’t already done. What they care about is making an extremely negative example out of him to intimidate future whistle blowers from coming forward because they’ll think they’re going to end up like him. That’s their objective.”

“Obviously he wants to stay out of the clutches of the U.S. government, given the way they persecuted whistle blowers,” Greenwald said. “He’s obviously trying to find a place where he can do that. His real goal is continue to be part of the conversation about why he did what he did.”

Greenwald also fired back at his peers who have intimated that the should be legally culpable for his role in Snowden’s leaks, noting that New York Times writer Andrew Ross Sorkin has apologized for his comment but that Meet the Press host David Gregory has not.

“Thomas Jefferson, 250 years ago, said those who most fear investigations are the ones who attack free press first,” Greenwald said. “This is what journalism is about, shining a light on what the most powerful people in the country are doing to them in the dark. So we’re going to continue to do that no matter what David Gregory and his friends say.”

Greenwald has also hinted at new leaks from the prolific Snowden, but refused to give Fox the exclusive. “You’re going to have to wait along with everybody else until our stories are published,” Greenwald said. “I will say that there are vast programs of both domestic and international spying that the world will be shocked to learn about, that the NSA is engaged in with no democratic accountability.”

Another frequent guest on Eric Bolling’s show: anti-Muslim hate group leader Pamela Geller.

Eric Bolling has called for government surveillance of all mosques, which is ironic considering the topic of his interview with Greenwald.

When President Obama hosted the president of the African nation of Gabon at the White House, Bolling introduced his show by saying, “Guess who’s coming to dinner? A dictator. Mr. Obama shares a laugh with one of Africa’s kleptocrats. It’s not the first time he’s had a hoodlum in the hizzouse.”

In a vicious attack on Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Bolling said, “Congresswoman, you saw what happened to Whitney Houston. Step away from the crack pipe, step away from the Xanax, step away from the Lorazepam because it’s going to get you in trouble.”

When President Obama visited Ireland, Bolling said:

The list of Bolling’s bizarre, extreme, hateful and racist statements goes on and on and on. It’s why he’s so popular at Fox News.

Of course Greenwald was going to end up on Fox! It’s the perfect venue when all you want is 1) self-publicizing and 2) encouraging hatred of the American president. In that order.

There’s no such thing as bad publicity. The only thing worse is no publicity at all, and this is all about getting his message out, regardless of who he’s associating with.

Greenwald’s main concern is Greenwald - not Snowden. That’s the context we need to bear in mind whenever Greenwald goes and drones on.

hey now, we all know GG is chummy with CATO and guess who has been steering CATO for years, the Koch Brothers. It’s not a chasm of differences, more like a sidewalk crack. Is GG in favor of single payer? improved infrastructure? higher minimum wage? AFAIK, he’s in favor of Gay rights because he’s gay, liberal? progressive? I’ve yet to see it.

Well, Greenwald’s initial claim to fame was eagerly defending KKK/neoNazi Matt Hale, along with being anti-US almost as much as he is anti-Israel, and hanging with extremists of all kinds, including the sort at the “Socialism” conferences where he likes to speak annually.

So it doesn’t seem too surprising that he has no problem interviewing with and supporting Fox racists and kooks when that serves his purpose.

re: #17 krypto

Even the Neo Nazis and folks like Hale deserve legal representation - no matter how vile they may actually be. Not every lawyer is willing to take on those kinds of clients, so I’ll give him credit for that.

But he’s an activist who thinks he’s a journalist and isn’t concerned about getting to the facts so much as working his narrative that the NSA and the US is doing bad things, when all we’ve found out so far is that the US is doing things according to US law (so far) and that spying on friends and foes alike isn’t illegal - though no one likes when these things go public - everyone knows that we spy but every country treats this as though it doesn’t happen.

The incumbent Karzai regime represents an infinitesimally small minority of the Afghan people and the vast majority of Afghans hate it more than they hate Americans. What is more, the Karzai regime is notoriously corrupt, inefficient and highly unlikely to oversee a fair election next year.

If it is not the Karzai regime that can represent the Afghan people, who can? The Taliban? If so, which faction(s)? Mulla Omar’s faction certainly is more representative of the Afghans than the Karzai regime.

REPORT: Corporations Pay Lower Tax Rates Than The Middle Class

Large, profitable U.S. corporations actually paid just a 12.6 percent effective tax rate in 2010. That’s barely a third of the 35 percent corporate rate on the books, and it’s actually lower than the median effective tax rate for middle-class Americans. The number comes from a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study intended to clarify the terms of debate as lawmakers weigh changes to the business tax code.

Most analyses of the gap between the tax rate on the books and the “effective rate” companies actually pay rely upon company financial statements, but the GAO’s work is based on actual corporate tax returns for 2010. The researchers found that large companies - those “with assets of $10 million or more” - that are profitable paid about 12.6 percent of their global income in U.S. taxes. The figure rises to 16.9 percent of global income if all foreign, state, and local taxes are factored in. Companies that took a loss for the year actually paid a higher rate than the profitable ones.

The Real Wendy Davis: New website attacks lawmaker for being too attractive

It might be better to sit down for this. Sen. Wendy Davis, who dazzled feminist circles with her recent filibuster, has a dirty secret. Take a deep breath now. Sen. Wendy Davis isn’t a natural blonde. The sound you hear is Gloria Steinem weeping.

The anonymous owners of the new website The Real Wendy Davis are using their journalistic acumen to take a “closer look at the Left’s new feminist superhero.” Using carefully vetted research, the site questions Davis’ feminist bona fides with evidence of her current attractiveness. How can Davis champion reproductive rights with “perfectly coiffed hair?,” the site asks. What is Wendy hiding? Why isn’t she covered with lesions and boils?

The conspiracy to dupe true feminists apparently runs deep. Before dropping a bombshell photo of Davis from the 1991 Texas Christian University yearbook, the site directs readers to consider science. A series of photos shows the gradual decay of law professor Glenn Reynolds and President Barack Obama. “Both men were good looking in their late 20s,” the site concludes, “and both remain good looking in their early 50s (despite all the guns and alcohol), but no one would suggest they are better looking than when they were younger.”

But like a Lone Star Elizabeth Báthory, Sen. Davis has turned back the clock. Obviously, she is a witch. Quick, throw her in the water.

The site continues to shatter the matriarchy. “For someone who in the early 1990s was a feminist activist in law school, and who is currently posing as a champion of women’s rights, standing up to men who seek to dictate the way women should live, she seems to have devoted an unusual amount of attention to her physical appearance.” The site entreats, “You be the judge, Wendy Davis, superhero, or superfake ‘Human Barbie Doll?’”

Just for good measure, the post ends with a nod to pop culture - a video of Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl.” It’s an outdated musical reference for an outdated world view.

GOP Hammers Obama for ‘Supporting the Wrong People’ in Egypt

For a number of top Republicans in the House, it’s the White House’s tacit support of Morsy. “The Egyptian turmoil stems from the Morsy government’s predictable power grab, which the Obama Administration has been far too accepting of,” Rep, Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, tells The Cable. “U.S. aid has failed to compel the Morsy government to undertake the political and economic reforms needed to avert this crisis.”

Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, offered a similar condemnation. “Unfortunately, the Obama administration thinks it can woo Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood just as it thinks it can negotiate with Iran’s Ayatollah,” he told The Cable. “The United States must stand firm on its values and make clear our objectives in the region.”

An early target in this week’s turmoil is U.S. ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson, who was denounced by anti-government activists last month after criticizing street protests and defending U.S. relations with Morsy.

More background on Greenwald, his relationship with Guardian, and the admission he’s tech illiterate:

Mr. Greenwald’s experience as a journalist is unusual, not because of his clear opinions but because he has rarely had to report to an editor. He began his blog Unclaimed Territory in 2005 after the news of warrantless surveillance under the Bush administration. When his blog was picked up by Salon, said Kerry Lauerman, the magazine’s departing editor in chief, Salon agreed that Mr. Greenwald would have direct access to their computer system so that he could publish his blog posts himself without an editor seeing them first if he so chose.

“It basically is unheard of, but I never lost a moment of sleep over it,” Mr. Lauerman said. “He is incredibly scrupulous in the way a lawyer would be — really, really careful.”

The same independence has carried over at The Guardian, though Mr. Greenwald said that for an article like the one about the N.S.A. letter he agreed that the paper should be able to edit it. Because he has often argued in defense of Bradley Manning, the army private who was charged as the WikiLeaks source, he said he considered publishing the story on his own, and not for The Guardian, to assert that the protections owed a journalist should not require the imprimatur of an established publisher.

Mr. Greenwald said he has had to get up to speed in the security precautions that are expected from a reporter covering national security matters, including installing encrypted instant chat and e-mail programs.

“I am borderline illiterate on these matters, but I had somebody who is really well-regarded actually come and physically do my whole computer,” he said.

Harvey even called on parents in marriage equality states to take their kids out of the public school system: “Concerned parents would be wise in same-sex parents states to remove your children from the public schools, things are about to get very oppressive for people of faith.”

Self imposed oppression doesn’t count, you sniveling twit.

The Egyptian military has leaked details of its draft “roadmap” for the country’s future, which includes new presidential elections.

According to details given to the BBC, the plan would see the suspension of the new constitution and the dissolution of parliament.

Clashes in Cairo between opponents and supporters of President Morsi killed seven people on Tuesday, officials say.

The army warned on Monday that it would step in unless a solution was found.

Mr Morsi criticised the ultimatum, which gave him 48 hours to find agreement with the opposition, saying it “might cause confusion”.

The president met the head of the armed forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, for a second consecutive day on Tuesday. They did not give any details of the talks, which also included Prime Minister Hisham Qandil.

Military sources told the BBC the president’s position was becoming “weaker” with every passing minute and suggested that under the draft plan, he could be replaced by a council of cross-party civilians and technocrats ahead of new elections.

I know some people think Snowden used strong enough encryption to stop Russia and China from just grabbing his stuff, but again I think that’s pretty naive.

The Russians and Chinese could easily throw ultra-massive parallel computer systems into cracking any encryption. It’s kind of foolish to think anything Snowden did could hold up for very long.

Yeah, there’s very good consumer-level encryption available. But the super-power governments are constantly staying ahead of that game, and they have unlimited money and resources, and it’s not a good bet to say it’s all cool because it was encrypted.

I wonder if this is why Vladimir Putin said Snowden should stop releasing documents that harm the US? I thought he was just being his usual asshole self, but maybe he said that because he now knows for certain there’s stuff in there that will cause real harm to real people?

Putin throws rock bands in jail, poisons his enemies, and passes laws that criminalize criticizing religion.

I somehow can’t see him giving a shit what happens to American spies.

You get a severe gaze from a Feline Overlord for mixing words incorrectly.

I figured Putin believes his copy is worth more if there are fewer other copies.

Just thrashing about looking for a scapegoat, aren’t they? Already blamed the US, now the Copts, and I probably missed them blaming the Mossad and Israel.

re: #182 wrenchwench

That too - but it makes his position with the US a lot more difficult if Snowden releases stuff that’s clearly endangering people.

I don’t see Putin giving a shit about American spies unless there’s a reason for him to care.

If Snowden had documents that not only exposed American spies and/or ops but ALSO exposed Russian involvement or ties to those same things, he’d care.

The Muslim Brotherhood needs to be squashed. They are now trying to incite Ethnic Cleansing against the Copts.

Hope that Abdullah II in Jordan will have an announcement soon.

Morsi’s pretty much dared the military to depose him. Guess that means he’s gonna find out what the inside of a jail cell looks like very soon.

Women like me didn’t work so hard so long ago to see a well-paid RW sell out like her try to undo all our work. And we’re going to rise again—TX is just the beginning.

The RW is going to soon see what a real grass roots movement is all about. We are not going back.
