Video: Bryan Fischer Fantasizes About White Conservatives “Getting Busy”

Religious right caveman Bryan Fischer is very concerned about the hordes of dusky-skinned savages who would pour into America if we ever enact immigration reform, but he’s not just complaining; Mr. Fischer has a solution, and that solution is “procreation,” ladies. His advice to conservatives: “Get busy.”

“The whole argument for immigration is, ‘We got to get workers.’ Why? Because native-born Americans simply are not reproducing at rates fast enough to increase the population. So we know what we need to do. Let’s get busy.”

I will leave you, gentle reader, with the horrifying image of Bryan Fischer “getting busy.”

Not that he advocates anything which makes it easier to raise a family, such as higher wages, healthcare or education.

These are Christian kids. God will Automagically (tm) provide the means for those families that comply.

And by the way, while my post may be made in jest, that’s also really how these people think. They are convinced that God will magically poof up funds and supplies for families that have “as many kids as God will give them”.

I used to call the whole anti-choicer movement “pro-human-biomass”. Back when I was a little more freshly-removed from my fundie upbringing. Seemed like nothing in the world was so important to ‘em as cranking out endless iterations of the Made In Hiz Image genome.

Except maybe recycling the copies that didn’t accept the One True Faith like they were supposed to.

A good one from the Dkos Rec List
MSNBC - I think I know the problem

I think the rage-o-holic burnout is a problem but the diarist misses the point. According to the last Pew news survey MSNBC had the least actual news content of all the major networks so for actual news (breaking stories, live coverage, etc) people tune in elsewhere. As for the commentary it’s of course biased but that’s not the problem. It’s dull, predictable, repetitive, simplistic and over all silly. It would be fine to have a liberal slanted channel but at least try something intellectual, stimulating or challenging.

I realized something awesome.

The military pulled the trigger on knocking over Morsi & the Muslim Brotherhood today after meeting with El-Baradei, the Coptic Pope, and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University.

The Coptic Church has been around since approximately 42 CE, and fully separated from the rest of the church after the Council of Chalcedon in 451 CE. So, depending on your count, the Coptic Church is either 1,971 years old, or 1,562 years old.

Al-Azhar University has been around since 970 CE. Making its age 1,043 years old.

Both of these organizations, two of the oldest still extant organizations on the planet (Catholic Church sits between them) decided it was a good day to pull the trigger on the radical upstart Muslim Brotherhood, which is a scant 85 years old.

There is something amazing about that.

Ever since I was a wee little tyke I believed there were already enough people in the world. There are probably millions of children in the world living in foster homes and orphanages that could really go for a good adoptin’, ya know? In fact, one of the best arguments for allowing gay couples to adopt kids is that they very deliberately, and presumably thoughtfully, want to be parents. It’s not like you can get drunk and accidentally adopt a child one wild Saturday night, after all. (Note: this may or may not be true in certain regions of central Europe from which my ancestors hail. However, I digress.)

I’ve often heard people (especially my ex mother-in-law) say that the decision not to have children is somehow “selfish”. I can’t begin to understand that pretzel logic. In my opinion, someone who believes their own particular genome is so special and precious that they just absolutely MUST have a little copy of it running around is far more selfish than someone who doesn’t.

re: #62 First As Tragedy, Then As Farce

I’ve often heard people (especially my ex mother-in-law) say that the decision not to have children is somehow “selfish”. I can’t begin to understand that pretzel logic.

I’ve had that particular bit of “wisdom” thrown at me. I don’t think I’m being selfish at all. I’m 40. If I got pregnant now, that pregnancy would be higher risk because of my age. I’m also dealing with graduate student loan debt, which will take years to pay off. WHY would I add to my current debt with doctor and hospital bills and the expenses of raising a child?

OTOH, I saw plenty of pregnancy obsessed women who WERE selfish in many of the PCOS support groups I used to be in. All they focused on was getting pregnant no matter the cost or what they had to go through to have a baby. They’d post their ovulation charts and temps, and they’d also get mad at their husband/boyfriend if he had the gall to be tired or uninterested in sex on a particular night. They’d even get angry at anyone on their FB feed who was having babies because those people were somehow at fault for their fertility issues. THAT is selfish. Deciding that having children isn’t in my financial or health-related cards? Not selfish.

I’ve also heard the canard that I can’t possibly understand what real love is because I don’t have children. Honestly, I think that’s bullshit. Who are those people to tell me whether or not I know what love is? Fuck that noise.

No, the “selfish” version is being libertarian and then claiming that one shouldn’t be paying school taxes in order to pay for the public education of other people’s little brats. (Of course simply ignoring the impact of not providing for an educated citizenry.)

re: #70 Vicious Babushka

I appreciate CGI when it’s not so obvious and over-the-top that it’s distracting, but I think movies from pre-CGI days that used carefully lit miniatures and matte paintings are usually more “satisfying”, somehow. The original Star Wars (minus the “Special Edition” tomfoolery) is a more visually exciting experience to me than most of the much more slick and extravagant visual effects-heavy movies of today. Same goes for 2001: A Space Odyssey, even though I know more people seem to dislike it than not.

The idea of people from many different skilled backgrounds spending days or weeks designing, constructing, detailing, and figuring out how to light and shoot a set that is going to get 10 minutes of screen time fires my particular enjoyment neurons more readily than the same amount of effort spent designing and rendering CGI. I don’t know if CGI is really even quicker or cheaper than doing it the “analog” way. Is it?

I’m checking into it - try again. I think it may be related to the way you’re adding tags. Instead of choosing a bunch of tags from the suggestion list, it’s better to re-use tags so that if someone clicks on a tag they’ll go to the pages with those tags.

By using so many unrelated tags, what’s happening is that your personal tag library is filling up with tags that are only used once, and that DB lookup is timing out because there are so many.

Is it?

I just could not get into a bunch of actors full of fake beards and prosthetics. They look like a 4th grade production of Snow White, but MOAR EXPENSIVE COSTUMEZ.

I do feel sorry for the couples who really, really want children and can’t have them. (Not saying you don’t.)

I mean, yeah. I get it. If a couple really wants a baby and fertility problems arise, then yes. I do feel bad for those couples. But these women took it to a whole different level that was to the point where they were obsessed with babies and with getting pregnant.

Aside from the temp and ovulation charts, there was endless discussion about which snake oil “natural supplement” could help with increasing fertility and which old wives’ tale bit of advice would help them get pregnant faster. But what soured me the most were the times when someone would get angry at a co-worker or a friend or a relative that got pregnant, like that person somehow didn’t deserve a baby and they did. It was off-putting.

I started watching The Hobbit. I totally enjoyed the LOTR movies, as well as all the books when I was a kid.

WTF. A bunch of guys all covered with a bunch of prosthetics! IT LOOKS SO SHITTY AND FAKE.

I read Tolkien’s essay on the suspension of disbelief in an audience of fantasy, how necessary it is to maintain the illusion and not “give away” behind the scenes.

This new 48 FPS just makes everything look like the FAKE MOVIE SET IT IS.

NEEDS MOAR CGI.

Fair enough, but part of why I’m a progressive is refusing to cling to the evils of today soley for fear of what the future may bring.

Any bloodless ousting of a group of religious zealots that is supported by the majority of the population is probably a good thing in my book….

(Another of my amazing liberal powers is the ability to parse any comment into total pointlessness!)

The way I see it, you always have to hope things get better and work to make them better, but at the same time be aware that wrong paths exist and what they are. One shouldn’t dwell on them. but to ignore them is folly.

That is sort of what I figured. You can turn a 900 page series of books into nine plus hours of movie and there is still stuff you are gonna leave out. If you try to do that to a single 300 page book though… You’re gonna have to add in a bunch of padding.

I disagree. The Devil didn’t make anyone do anything here; What he did was tempt those who dislike abortion to walk the path of hysteria and support for tyranny. But those who walk that path have chosen to walk it and refuse to see it as such.

Satan thrives on fear-driven blindness and self-deception.

[Embedded content]

Unrelated, but I’ll assert this confidently: If there’s a Satan, his personal version of “The Theme from Shaft” is “Amazing Grace,” and his preference is for it to be played on the fucking bagpipes.

I hate that stupid song almost as much as I hate the near-universal perfunctory faux reverence for it, and if I live to be a billion years old I will never understand how anyone can stand to listen to an instrument that somehow combines droning with honking into a timbre that sounds like a goose being tortured to death.

Nobody in my family will admit to it, but despite the song having no discernible relevance to anyone in attendance, *someone* arranged to have it sung at my dad’s funeral, which was itself an altogether wretched affair. The person who sang it warbled like a phonograph record with the hole punched off-center. I would swear that her vibrato was about two and a half steps on either side of the note. Of every note. It was like watching a parody of a funeral service.

I thought the song was corny and cloying before that, but my dad’s cheesy package-tour funeral drove the last nail in its coffin.

Note: Satan still notably fictional. The bad news: humans totally responsible.

Same goes for God. Still fiction, despite all the efforts to prove otherwise.

German”?

Pat Buchannan and Molly Ivins, but close enough.

I disagree. The Devil didn’t make anyone do anything here; What he did was tempt those who dislike abortion to walk the path of hysteria and support for tyranny.

How does he pull that off? Move the goalposts? Make idle threats? Engage in no-true-ScottsmanChristian arguments? Offer cookies?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

No, the hucksters who try to sell the idea of Satan thrive on blindness and self-deception. They push the meme that something or someone else is responsible for your failings and your faults.

I disagree. The Devil didn’t make anyone do anything here; What he did was tempt those who dislike abortion to walk the path of hysteria and support for tyranny. But those who walk that path have chosen to walk it and refuse to see it as such.

Satan thrives on fear-driven blindness and self-deception.

Exactly. You can look at it as a myth or as an anthropomorphism or as an actual super natural being, but the end result in human behavior is still determined by how much those humans are tempted by the potential power of what they seek than by the things that work against it.

One does not, inherently, have to believe in either Satan or Jesus to be able to use the conception of either to frame a discussion.

In the end, those who are terrified of one person saying “satan” are less interested in what the historical rabbi named Jesus taught than they are in what they are told to believe.

DF is probably using the concept of Satan far closer to a literal usage than I am and yet how distant are we really in the sense of our expectations of human behavior?

I believe in God. I believe there was a historical Jesus. I am very unsure, closer to disbelief, about any kind of afterlife. As a result, I’m as heterodox as you can imagine. Take my thoughts as you will.

That happens often enough. People who get a big win want to do a victory lap then go hoist a few cold drinks, not hunker down for the next round, even if that’s exactly what they need to do. True winners are those who will hunker down and plan for the next fight, even when they want to do something else.

I will leave you, gentle reader, with the horrifying image of Bryan Fischer getting busy.

I think Bryan would like to watch Americans “get busy,” and considering his sometimes very detailed fixation with gay sex over the years, I’d be willing to wager that he’d like to watch two gay men get busy. Heck, he’d probably join in.

Turn the lights down, put on some Pat Boone, undo the buttons on the PJs and prepare for a good minute and a half of the marriage act before retiring to your separate beds to pray for forgiveness.

Put on his version of Tutti Fruiti. If that doesn’t take the lime out of your coconuts, nothing will.

231 Mr.Boots  Thu, Jul 4, 2013 6:33:31am

For years after passing anti-abortion protests, I’ve noted to friends that I’ve only seen white folk, mostly older white folk demonstrating here on Long Island. Given the demographics of who is getting abortions, I’ve always wondered if preserving the “White” race was part of the issue. I take no joy in Fischer’s confirmation of this speculation.
