Bow down
Wingnuts • Views: 49,736

In tonight’s episode of LIFE WITH GOHMERT!, Louie’s dreams are realized when he makes the list of The Hottest Conservative Supermen in America.

Top 10 Hottest Conservative Supermen in the Political World (Active, Retired or Future/Upcoming Candidates)

1. Sen. Ted Cruz
2. Lt. Col. Allen West
3. Rep. Louis Gohmert
4. Rep. Trey Gowdy
5. Sen. Jim DeMint
6. Dan Bongino
7. Assemblyman Tim Donnelly
8. Gov. Rick Perry
9. Rep. Steve King
10. Sen. Rand Paul

The criteria for making this list:

#1. Intelligence. These guys are brilliant.

#2. Courage. They aren’t afraid to stand up to challenges, speak the truth and fight for our country.

#3: Passion (See above)

#4: Sense of humor. Self-deprecating gets you extra points.

#5: Looks. This can be either conventionally handsome or someone who simply exudes sexiness.

Robert Spencer made the list too! Rarely have I witnessed a human being who exudes as much raw sexiness.

Hey! But where’s Ben Shapiro?

He hasn’t reached puberty, so technically is not eligible to be on a “Sexiest Man” list.

Yeah. “Sexiest Prepubescent Boy” as a category doesn’t do well in focus groups.

7 EPR-radar  Tue, Jul 9, 2013 6:31:05pm

Of course, the listed individuals do tend to score better on criterion #5 (looks) than on the other 4, since stupidity, pandering to the base, insanity, and blinkered humorless zealotry are par for the course for RWNJs these days.

This, right here, nails it. If you look at the fundamentalist model, it is all tied up in an authority-figure fetish. The only problem is, they then project this fetish as the “right way” and condemn everyone who doesn’t share it as “sinners”.

In my view, this is one of the basic differences between the left and the right. Even when the left gets authoritarian or totalitarian in practice, the corresponding official ideology is not usually predicated on supermen ruling over lesser beings.

Target Gives Managers ‘Multi-Cultural Tips’: Not All Hispanics Eat Tacos Or Wear Sombreros

According to the lawsuit filed in Yolo County, California, Target’s “multi-cultural tips” teach predominantly Caucasian managers that not all Hispanic employees are cultural stereotypes who eat tacos and like salsa music. The document also claims that Cubans are more educated and more likely to be legal immigrants than Mexican employees:

a. Food: not everyone eats tacos and burritos;

b. Music: not everyone dances to salsa;

c. Dress: not everyone wears a sombrero;

d. Mexicans (lower education level, some may be undocumented);

e. Cubans (Political refugees, legal status, higher education level); and

f. They may say ‘OK, OK’ and pretend to understand, when they do not, just to save face.

Always fun: getting out of the shower to find that the utility sink has apparently overflowed and knocked the washer outflow onto the floor, resulting in it spewing all over the entryway platform, the water heater, the furnace, the kitchen floor by the door, and the stuff on the floor in the garage.

Of course, when I saw the puddle on the floor by the door, my first thought was a combination of “how the hell did the cats produce that much piss” and “I just cleaned the litterboxes this afternoon, dammit.” I’m not sure what that says about life here.

Federal judge halts some provisions of Capitol access policy

For the second time this week, a federal judge has blocked an action by Gov. Scott Walker and other state officials, yanking part of the administration’s rules for managing protesters at the Capitol.

U.S. District Judge William Conley in Madison struck down two parts of the Walker administration’s restrictions on demonstrations, though he left much of the remaining rules in place, including some requirements for permits for larger events.

In a 47-page opinion, Conley blocked the administration from requiring a permit for “events” in the statehouse rotunda of 20 people or fewer. He also enjoined enforcement of another section of the rule that he said amounted to an unconstitutional distinction based on the content of the speech and events.

In his opinion, the judge said the statehouse played a central role in the geography of Madison and its civic life that allowed for “a certain level of disturbance that would not be proper in a typical state office building or even a typical state capitol.”

On Monday, Conley also stayed part of a separate law requiring doctors who perform abortions to have hospital admitting privileges.

It may look like a joke. But the 17-inch diameter chainring that graces a custom Donhou Bicycles build is real, and it has a special purpose: To propel a rider to 100mph under his own power.

104 tooth chainring, LOL! Also, as the video teaser blow shows, under his own power in this context means he’s drafting a car with a special built fairing mounted on its rear.

What’s the konami code?

It’s tapping keys in this order:

up up down down left right left right B A

(then keep clicking A)

It originates from the games produced by Konami for the original Nintendo game system (on which the controllers had a directional keypad and two buttons, A and B)

Conservatives cite ‘neutrality’ memo as proof of military’s hostility to Christianity

One of those incidents was a 2011 memo released by Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz entitled, “Maintaining Government Neutrality Regarding Religion.” The memo warned military officials against using their elevated position to force their beliefs upon subordinates or discriminating against service members based on their religious beliefs.

Most of the incidents listed involved Weinstein. Conservative bloggers falsely claimed in May that Weinstein was behind a plan to court-martial Christians in the military. The attorney has frequently battled with conservative Christians like the American Family Association.

“The examples presented above should give us great concern that we have entered a period in which members of the armed services are being subjected to speech codes and restrictions on the free exercise of religion,” the FRC report concluded.

Apparently failing to give Christians special privileges and benefits is oppression.

Suck a dick, you bastards.

Studies indicate that individuals with the “strong tasters” PTC gene variant were less likely to be smokers. This may indicate that people who find PTC bitter are more likely than non-tasters to find the taste of cigarettes bitter and may be less likely to smoke.

Other studies suggest that there may be correlations between the ability to taste PTC and preferences for certain types of foods. This may be why some of us think that broccoli is just too bitter to eat.

I have to keep this in mind when people like President Obama say they like broccoli, because for me the ratio of cheddar cheese to broccoli plays a crucial role in the stuff even being conducive to digestion.

So yeah, I guess I can accept that for some people it’s their favorite food, but in the back of my mind I kind of wonder if they’ve never even heard of wild sockeye nova smoked lox.

The mercenary (and others, some wearing masks) shown above is not lounging in a narcotraficante camp. He’s in the Penokee Hills of northwest Wisconsin, near the south shore of Lake Superior. He and his pals were hired by a company called Gogebic Taconite (GTAC). GTAC is doing some exploring for taconite in the area; there was a dust up with protesters, causing $2,000 in damage, and this was GTAC’s response. “Eco-terrorism,” you see.

Parenthetically, this is a ferrous metals company, kids, not a non-ferrous or sulfide one, but there are sulfides in the rock, too. Especially because the topology of the site tilts rather steeply toward Lake Superior, environmentalists have the same concerns as exist about the Minnesota sulfide projects.

it’s a way of managing software engineers that’s very popular these days where every two weeks all the engineers have to predict everything they’re gonna do for the next two weeks to do their job and estimate it to the hour, write up the tasks on yellow stickies, paste them up on a whiteboard, and then stick to the schedule

then every day you come in and either declare that, yes, yesterday from 9 to 11 i accomplished this, just like i promised, and then from 11 to 2 i did the second task, and then from 2 to 5 i did the third task

and if you didn’t do everything in more or less the time you predicted, it’s a problem and you’ll have to apologize for your “poor estimation skills”

It’s all part of a widespread malady in corporate America, where, to prove they are doing something, middle managers try to show that they are fully employing their resources in the most efficient manner possible.

Turning code monkeys into hourly-wage burger flippers is one reason why I avoided the software industry as a whole, even though I did (via part time) an MS in Software Engineering years ago. Yet I know from experience that I am a very slow coder, because I always wrote software that was, well, readable. And secondly because I want to create. If I wanted to be told what to do every day I could go into burger flipping.

This also speaks to the larger picture about wage suppression, and that software is not truly treated as a “profession” but as manual labor.

My advisor asked me if I really wanted to bother with Agile/Scrum everyday for the rest of my career, because that’s what getting anything in Project Management would mean.

I ended up doing a rough draft of a full graduate thesis instead.

When I worked at the Job From Hell, we had Agile Scrums every day at 8:45.

Why yes it was a government contract job, how did you know?

Funny, I haven’t worked a government contract yet and all of my jobs have been run on the daily scrum principle. It’s the New Big Thing in software development management, continuing the proven trend among software managers to brutally abuse processes that would otherwise be good if they were used as intended. But what do I know, I’m just the monkey who types on a keyboard and makes magic come out the other end.

Scrum seems like any other method: if you have smart people using it well, it works, if people try to apply it as though the method itself brings results, it’s a confused, chaotic pile of crap.

And people who do not understand the principles behind it just cling to buzzwords and a few set plays they have memorized.

So my ex-wife once worked for millionaire investment bankers in Frankfurt who insisted (I kid you not, this was 1996) that she print out and file every single e-mail in a filing cabinet…

I don’t think he has been spotted since he left Hong Kong. A Reuters reporter even went to far as to get himself confined in the “NO VISA TRANSIT GULAG” area of Sheremetyevo airport, but he was kept isolated from everyone and then hustled out to his connecting flight. He noted that the “NO VISA TRANSIT GULAG” food and accommodations are very expensive, and they suck.

Snowden has surely run out of cash by now, unless Wikileaks gave him a magical unlimited Amex card.

Depends. You’re a whistleblower if you do a job and find out that it is corrupt, then you take it to the most able agency to fix it (after assuring that internal pathways are not trustworthy).

If you take a job to grab evidence of corruption you expect to find there, you’re a spy.

Ed S deserves a fair trial. Let the prosecutor find out just what he revealed and let him explain his motivations for doing so. And not in the form of leaks and press snippets, but in the form of legally binding testimony.

Don’t know if he will ever get one, or even be able to get one should he be brought to justice in the US, it would certainly be the political show trial of the century.

The judge did the right thing in addressing the Martin texts and the animation.

The texts simply don’t inform anyone of Zimmerman’s behavior - which is what is at trial here. Zimmerman had no way to know who Martin was, let alone what he was thinking as Zimmerman began following and chasing Martin through the development.

The animations were prejudicial and based on supposition, not on facts and other evidence entered at trial.

I doubt he will. He has far too many inconsistencies in his video, discussions with police, etc., to manage to keep it all straight on the stand.

The prosecution is going to detail every one of those inconsistencies in close to show that he lied about so many things, that his multiple versions of events cannot be believed. The defense will probably show the video on close. And the prosecution will counter in their rebuttal that there is no evidence supporting that and Zimmerman didn’t take the stand, which is his right, to clear them up.

At least, that’s the approach I would use. :-)

Going off the arguments both sides made at the hearing for O’Mara’s motion for a directed verdict, the Defense won’t place much emphasis on Zimmerman’s testimony. Instead, they’ll pound the facts that are in his favor, saying that they present enough doubt that the jury cannot rule against self-defense and so much rule for acquittal.

yes, Arizona is that fucking crazy. Hell we just sent Jeff Flake to the Senate, over a guy who was the former Surgeon General (under Bush), SWAT Team Member, decorated Vietnam Vet and Emergency Surgeon. Flake’s major accomplishment to date, being a Mormon white guy from the East Phoenix suburbs. Showed his true colors in the gun safety debate where he told a grieving mother (from the Aurora Theatres massacre) that he agreed with her on background checks and then voted against it anyway.

Plus we sent Jan back to the governor’s chair despite SB1070 being a total Hindenburg and her headless bodies in the desert claim being debunked. Her only debate performance made the 18 missing minutes from the Nixon Tapes seem lucid and informative.

310 lawhawk  Wed, Jul 10, 2013 7:31:12am

A Brazilian paper (with Glenn Greenwald’s byline no less) is reporting that Snowden leaked documents about US intel programs in Latin and South America - against Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia as well as Venezuela.

A Brazilian newspaper on Tuesday published an article it said is based on documents provided by the former American contractor Edward Snowden asserting that the United States has been collecting data on telephone calls and e-mails from several countries in Latin America, including important allies such as Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The paper, O Globo, based in Rio de Janeiro, says the documents show the National Security Agency amassed military and security data on countries such as Venezuela, an American adversary that has been accused of aiding Colombia’s Marxist rebels and maintaining close ties with Iran. But the documents also show that the agency carried out surveillance operations to unearth inside commercial information on the oil industry in Venezuela and the energy sector in Mexico, which is under state control and essentially closed to foreign investment.

U.S. officials have declined to address issues about intelligence gathering or the O Globo report, except to issue a statement saying that “we have been clear that the United States does gather foreign intelligence of the type gathered by all nations.”

Full O Globo report here.

Again, none of this is shocking, let alone illegal under US law. All nations spy. It’s juvenile to think otherwise, or to think that spying is always wrong. There are plenty of good reasons to do so, including keeping tabs on potential or emerging threats, and to inform political leadership in the country doing the spying about what they believe is really going on behind closed doors - not just the public pronouncements by regimes about how their country functions.

Brazilians, Colombians, or Venezuelans might be upset with the surveillance, but do they think that other countries aren’t curious about what their governments are up to and their actions on economic or military issues - such as oil and energy production, or how the government is operating?

Does Greenwald not see the utility in say the US (or any other country) trying to figure out what’s going on in Venezuela’s oil industry and whether they’re actually capable of producing more oil, or that the reserves aren’t what they’ve stated them to be - affecting global energy prices (among other things).

He’s got such an immature worldview that it defies rational behavior. Indeed, spying is a rational behavior by state actors for that very reason - to trust but verify what’s being said and done elsewhere in the world.

(Being paged BTW)

Etymonline.com says otherwise:

manage (v.)
1560s, probably from Italian maneggiare “to handle,” especially “to control a horse,” ultimately from Latin noun manus “hand” (see manual (adj.)). Influenced by French manège “horsemanship” (earliest English sense was of handling horses), which also was from Italian. Extended to other objects or business from 1570s. Slang sense of “get by” first recorded 1650s.

As is standard for libertardians, he makes the mistake of conflating ‘will do the job’ with ‘wants to do the job’.

When faced with the options of ‘definitely starve to death’ or ‘maybe not starve for a little while longer’, any rational agent will choose the latter. People don’t line up for walmart jobs because those jobs are fine, they line up for those jobs because their only other alternative is to be foodless/homeless. Walmart takes advantage of that, mercilessly.

A bigot is asking for people to be tolerant. At this rate, I’m going to need a new irony meter soon:

Book News: ‘Ender’s Game’ Author Responds To Boycott Threats

The Ender’s Game author and anti-gay activist Orson Scott Card responded to boycotts threats against the upcoming film adaptation starring Harrison Ford. The queer geek group Geeks OUT is organizing boycotts and “Skip Ender’s Game” events in several U.S. cities because of Card’s views on homosexuality. He wrote in 2008 that “marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down.” Card responded to the backlash in a statement to Entertainment Weekly: “With the recent Supreme Court ruling, the gay marriage issue becomes moot. … Now it will be interesting to see whether the victorious proponents of gay marriage will show tolerance toward those who disagreed with them when the issue was still in dispute.”

Here’s a question: When did tolerance mean that Orson Scott Card was entitled to anyone’s money? Screw him and screw Ender’s Game.

Her only debate performance made the 18 missing minutes from the Nixon Tapes seem lucid and informative.

Is this the ‘less government’ they’re always demanding?

Not less government. Less Gub’Mint™. The trademark is important.

Starbucks beat out Microsoft for WA? That must have been a squeaker.

Also surprised that Verizon and GE was #1 for NY.

Nice to see Campbell’s get the nod of NJ. Camden catches enough abuse, good to see them win one once.

Interesting. I wonder if Heinz gave Hershey any sort of a run for the brand name for PA.

I’ve seen some alternatives too.

There’s a couple of alternative maps, like those for the 50 states of beer.

re: #365 Weet

Well, Kuok bought controlling interest in 1993. Kuok is of Chinese descent, and is a billionaire worth ~ $14.7 billion. Reporters Without Borders lists China as 173 of 179 in press freedom. SCMP has systematically eliminated non-PRC reporters (details reported in many articles.) My take is that saying it’s “not a state-run newspaper” is ‘barely true’. I’d like to see wheat-dogghazi’s opinion on how many non-PRC-approved articles he thinks they publish.

Oh, I thought that Murdoch still had a large share in it, but I see what I saw was Kuok’s buying out Murdoch’s share. I’d interpreted that as buying that portion of it.

Anyway, yeah, editors get fired for not praising the PRC heavily enough, let alone criticizing it, and Kuok has extremely close ties with the mainland. There is zero reason to think any information they got was withheld from the PRC.
