President Obama Makes Heartfelt, Powerful Comments on Racism, Right Wing Goes Batshit

What time is it? Right wing freakout time!
Politics • Views: 35,608

YouTube

An extraordinary moment today at the White House press briefing, as President Obama showed up unannounced to make some of his most powerful, heartfelt statements on racism in America and the Zimmerman murder trial.

The right wing instantly went insane, of course. For example:

breitbart.com’s race-baiter-in-chief Ben Shapiro quickly pounded out an insta-hate piece: OBAMA: ‘TRAYVON COULD HAVE BEEN ME’.

And there are already more than 1600 incredibly ugly, overtly racist comments, as Breitbart readers respond like Pavlov’s dogs to Shapiro’s article.

It is believable that obamma would make a statement like this — obamma hates white people.

[…]

Obama hates whites, just as he hates the America that Whites built.

[…]

You need to come and hang around my neighborhood with your hoody on, boy.

[…]

Obama has pure and utter contempt for this country. Everything he does is an attempt to strike at the heart of America. What a monster…

It’s illustrating that Jim-Bob there thinks that blacks being treated the same way as whites “strikes at the heart of America”.

It probably does strike at the heart of his America. Not mine.

Apparently, for the right, racism is like farts - whoever smelt it, dealt it.

They believe racism lies in point out racism, not in racism itself, so by pointing to the different experience of blacks, Obama’s the racist, not the people who ‘provide’ that different experience. You’re the racist for mentioning that you get followed in department stores, not the guy who followed you because you were black.

Sheesh.

NBC News: Preliminary Israel-Palestinian ground rules for direct talks reached, Kerry says.

I’d much prefer to see this go on behind closed doors (back channels) and get a deal hammered out between the parties directly (which is how Sadat went to Jerusalem, which resulted in Camp David and also how Oslo happened), but this is the all too typical playbook in ME politics.

I can hope for their success, but know that Hamas still controls Gaza while the PA/Fatah controls the West Bank. Without figuring out how to reconcile that, this doesn’t have success written all over it unless they’re going to ignore Gaza and go with a 3-state solution.

The desire of racists not to be called racist, and not to have racism and racist institutions identified as such is deep and abiding in these folks.

Robert Zimmerman Reacts To Obama: Let’s Encourage ‘Youth Of All Colors’

In response to Obama’s call to train law enforcement to handle potential racial bias, Zimmerman added that for at-risk youth “sometimes the right encouragement and the right role models and sort of the right shoulder to lean on in very difficult times in life can prevent any kind of engagement with law enforcement or the criminal justice s system whatsoever.”

Zimmerman was measured in his response, praising Obama for speaking “off-the-cuff” and being “very sincere in his remarks.”

Well, they quickly rounded up George Zimmerman’s angelic brother, Robert, probably to wonder if Trayvon was on his way to cook meth and rape some white ladies, and also to rebut the president, since the two are of equal stature. The judge conducted the trial in a professional manner. The prosecution and the defense made their arguments. The juries were properly instructed that in a — in a case such as this, reasonable doubt was relevant, and they rendered a verdict. And once the jury’s spoken, that’s how our system works.

racist

58 lawhawk  Fri, Jul 19, 2013 12:06:26pm

Oh, this is going to smart.

The Detroit bankruptcy filing is unconstitutional. A judge ruled that the filing violates the state constitution, which prohibits any action that threatens to cut the pension benefits of public employees.

The State AG and Gov. Synder are already filing an appeal against the ruling.

They’re going to hope that the appellate courts all ignore the state constitutional protections for pension benefits. If that fails, watch the Gov and GOP move to expunge that protection from the constitution.

I’m paging this in greater detail…

No, then Zimmerman would have been the bad guy to the Right, who’d have been after his hide.

The question the President posed that really goes to the heart of the matter, though, is whether, if Trayvon had been of age and armed, would HE have been justified shooting a guy who’d been following him in a car and then on foot, because he feared for his life (which, as it happens, he should have)?

I don’t want us to lose sight that things are getting better. Each successive generation seems to be making progress in changing attitudes when it comes to race. I doesn’t mean that we’re in a postracial society. It doesn’t mean that racism is eliminated. But you know, when I talk to Malia and Sasha and I listen to their friends and I see them interact, they’re better than we are. They’re better than we were on these issues. And that’s true in every community that I’ve visited all across the country.

Ted Cruz Rallies Right-Wing Pastors in Iowa

In a fiery, Bible-quoting first speech during his first time in Iowa, Republican Ted Cruz called on evangelical conservatives to demand their GOP elected officials actually stand for the conservative principles they pretend to believe in.

“Belief, saying I believe in something, is not sitting there quietly doing the golf clap,” Cruz told hundreds of Iowa Christian conservative ministers this morning at a private conclave in Des Moines….

Cruz lectured for 30 minutes, his voice at times rising to a shout. He answered questions for another 20 minutes, then stood at the center of a circle as pastors laid their hands on him and the whole audience - a predominantly white group with about 20 black pastors - bowed heads to pray for him.

To the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee…

I will not suffer Ted Cruz.

Back in the 80s, I briefly got interested in looking for an airline job. I joined an organization called “the Future Aviation Professionals of America.” This was actually pretty effective at helping people find those jobs, though I eventually gave up the airline idea when I started wearing glasses and went to graduate school instead.
Among other things, the FAPA advised applicants not to mention, or refer to, any interest in guns or shooting outside the military on their resumes and applications. Don’t boast that you’re an NRA certified pistol instructor or name reloading among your hobbies, for example. The airlines themselves didn’t mention this, of course, but it was apparently a very strict disqualification throughout the industry. I wonder if it still is. It also makes me wonder how many HR managers in other industries are looking out for this as well.

I like how he just randomly shouts out MLKs name in the middle of a sentence. It’s like he realizes “uh, oh. This is sounding a bit TOO racist. Better throw in a black guy’s name.”

Whoa, look at that Twitter counter go.

Nice. Just tweeted it myself. And with an average of 208 followers per twitter user, that’s over 760,000 potential viewers…

What an incredible video. “Extraordinary” is the word.

Obama realizes that he’s the President of all Americans. He’s giving his very best to the millions of good people in America. And as he often does, towards the end he touched on his optimism for America, how his daughters’ generation is better than his own generation about racial diversity, how we’re always becoming a “more perfect union”.

Of course, he’s fully-aware there are many who will react to his words with hatred. But he refuses to shortchange the millions of good Americans, so he goes ahead and gives us, his audience, everything he’s got.

We’re very lucky to have him as President.

He’s right.

I caught myself locking my car door a long time ago when a black man (in a suit and tie) walked thru the lot —not near my car. It was one of those moments when time seemed surreal. The sound of the lock transported me into the present moment.

I made no conscious decision to lock the car. I had to ask myself, WHY? did I do so —reflexively. There was absolutely nothing in the man’s appearance or behavior that would indicate a threat. Except, of course, that he was black.

This incident started a life-long habit of looking at myself and trying to recognize prejudice and “programmed” behaviors. It is very difficult to undo conditioned behavior.

I’m not sure it is possible for me to totally rid myself of all of it. All I can do is to keep trying, work not to pass it on to the next generation and CALL OTHERS out when I recognize it. Those who know me know I won’t play along—I don’t tolerate “jokes” and such.

It’s about race and it’s not about race. It’s about values. How do you want to be treated? Either we are all human beings are none of us are.

Some Animals are NOT more equal than others.

A different man might worked to exploit the racial divide.
