Talk about a shitty weekend.

Officials say the women became lost while hiking near Roque Bluffs State Park. A landowner found them and their dog and gave them a ride to a home. Authorities later took them back to their car.

A short time later, the women called to say they had driven their vehicle into the water — and then the phone went dead. The car was later found underwater.

I am working on my “Wingnut Revisionist History” page, it will take some time b/c of actual, you know, RESEARCH but does anyone know where I can find a source for the alleged LBJ quote “I’ll have those n-words voting democrat for the next 200 years!” Like, in a book or something?

It’s all over Teh Internets but only on whackjob right-wing websites and I am about 90% sure that it’s a Fake Quote.

But I would like to verify it before going on Teh Twitters and saying it is a Fake Quote. LBJ I am sure used the n-word as well as other words but it is very doubtful that he let racism determine policy,

It’s not even about condemnation. It’s the fact that there was never going to be a legitimate investigation into Trayvon Martin’s death. Zimmerman walked immediately and wouldn’t have ever seen the inside of a courtroom but for people shining a light on the incident.

39 Kragar  Wed, Jul 24, 2013 3:10:52pm

Dana Perino: Where’s Obama speech on blacks shooting white babies in the face?

“… when a president speaks, it’s to multiple audiences,” she added. “If you think of the young mother whose 2-year-old son was shot in the face by the two black teens that approached her in Atlanta and that baby had died, why do presidents choose to speak about one case and not the other? That’s why it’s better maybe not to talk about any of them.”

Earlier this year, a Georgia woman said her 13-month-old son was fatally shot by two African-American teens who approached her and asked for money.

In contrast to the Martin killing, 17-year-old De’Marquise Elkins and 15-year-old Dominique Lang were charged with first-degree murder about a day after the crime. And the 13-month-old victim in the Georgia case was never profiled as criminal and blamed for his own death.

to have said this, lbj would somehow have had to not be aware that the overwhelming majority of black people had been voting democratic since fdr - and thinking lbj wasn’t aware of something political is ridiculous

robert caro tells a story he heard about lbj - robert kennedy was talking to him, and he mentioned “the help”. lbj is supposed to have said “i don’t have ‘help’, i have ‘employees’”

another story caro tells was where he was making a speech in a rural town in the south somewhere east of texas one day. he thanked them for coming, and then said something like “it’s good that you are getting to hear a real democratic speech for once - all you’ve heard for the past few decades has been ‘n*****, n*****, n******’”

there was a shocked silence as the audience figured out what he meant, and then an ovation

One of the issues we have regarding national security is that so much stuff is classified that law breaking like what Snowden did may actually be the only way to get a conversation about security vs. civil liberties started. For example, law suits are very difficult to start if secrecy prevents anyone from having standing to bring a case. As another example, congressional oversight is significantly impaired if important briefings (e.g., general interpretation of the Patriot act by FISA court) are classified and cannot be discussed in public.

My personal opinion of Snowden is strongly negative mainly because of the way he fled the US and has dealt with foreign powers since then. If he had stayed to face the music in some principled manner, that would have made a big difference to me.

Inez is a wingnut, so I will assume her law degree is intended as preparation for a professional life of avoiding compliance with applicable law, absent other evidence.

Her attitude toward her speeding tickets is consistent with this cynical view.

99 OhNoZombies!  Wed, Jul 24, 2013 3:53:33pm

So I guess this is how it works in wing nut land:
*Others who break the law= a menace to society
*If we do it= well, that law is just stupid

Ok, got it.

Unless Princess Inez is renting a very cheap room out of someone’s house and taking the bus everywhere, she is not at all living on 1100 dollars a month in DC. Or damned near anywhere else. Throw in a car payment(or at least insurance if the car’s paid for), food, clothing and health insurance and it’s not happening. She might want to watch that lead foot of hers too, too many points on that license and she won’t have it for long and her insurance will be insanely expensive, not to mention the chunk all those fines take out of the budget.

So, she’s either lying about her income or someone is helping her and she’s just not aware of what it’s like to be totally on her own with NO help from parents, a boyfriend, other family, etc. If she’s got loans for school, she’s not paying on them until she’s out of school, so that’s not a current concern. She’s dating an Breitbart editor, not sure what he’s able to do to contribute to her overall income, but she’s probably not counting anything outside her paycheck, which is kinda fudging the numbers. Where I come from that’s called lying by omission or being dishonest.

The LBJ quote is from Ronald Kessler’s book, Inside the White House.

Johnson, like other presidents, would often reveal his true motivations in asides that the press never picked up. During one trip, Johnson was discussing his proposed civil rights bill with two governors. Explaining why it was so important to him, he said it was simple: “I’ll have them n***ers voting Democratic for two hundred years.”

The citation is from an interview with Robert Macmillan, an Air Force One steward, in 1993.

Looking to radicals because you’re scared, huh? Like… scared of change, maybe? Scared of the scary blah people? Scared about dem secularists takin’ over and forcing you to gay-marry?

In tRoubled times the fearful and naive are always drawn to post nonsensical crap on Twitter and Facebook all day.

Hey Inez! There are speed limit signs…one assumes a person in law school can, ya know, READ…they are not speed limit “suggestions”..

From the description, I’m sure it’s DC295. Yes, there are parts that have a speed limit of 40 mph, but they’ve got left and right offramps and merges and constant traffic, so you’d be a suicidal idiot to do 80. Plus, anybody who lives in DC who’s got half a clue knows it’s a notorious speed trap so doesn’t really go too much over the limit.

So it’s a bullshit arbitrary fee charged by a big soulless organization just because it can. Of course, since she’s a card-carrying bona fide member of Teh Poorz, she should be used to being charged bullshit arbitrary fees by big soulless organizations on a near daily basis, so I don’t know why she’s all surprised.

Would that be a Fox TV channel?

Rather than come off passive aggressive, since I disagreed elsewhere-gotta say I came to another conclusion. You do watch this stuff closer than I. But still… 111 of them Democrats. That’s a lot of people to get played so easily given how many years of beltway experience they represent.

Surely some of this is concerns about the larger implications of the changes in the laws since 9/11. IMO patience for extraordinary measures has limits. That is a good thing, although burdened always with the politics of each moment as they pass.

Greetings from the unemployment line, my fellow lizards.

Had a meeting this afternoon with my boss and me as the only invitee, which is always either a really good or really bad thing. After five years of really good things, I was due up for some bad news. I’m told it was purely budgetary, as the result of “across the board budget slashing”, that it is in no way related to performance and that they will gladly give me a positive reference.

Funny though, how they managed to hold on to the new guy that’s been there six months and is working off an H1B visa. I don’t blame him though, he’s a great guy and I wish him all the best — I just blame the corporate scum that ran the cold calculus of ‘cut the guy that commands a higher wage’.

Ah well. Such is life when doing contract work in a right-to-get-fucked-at-any-time state. #ThanksObama, I guess. //

It’s super tough the first couple of days, then it gets better. Trust me & hang in there.

Yep. Murdoch.

FX Middle East was launched in Summer 2011 (between June and July) as a new member of the FOX Middle East Family (FOX & FOX Movies) after many bad responses to dubbing the Fox Middle East channel (Previously Fox Series) to Arabic.

$275 in speeding tickets probably means she’s living on Ramen for the rest of the month.

That’s probably two tickets.

I got a red-light ticket last year from DC traffic cams, and it was $140.

I know EXACTLY where she got her ticket on the Beltway, now.

Too bad that her $1100 makes it tough to afford EZ Pass for the higher speed lanes on 495.

re: #30 EPR-radar

That’s assuming the story of a ‘5 lane freeway’ having a posted limit of 40 where people routinely do 80 is true.

FWIW, it is true.

She’s just making shit up.

No, she’s not — there is a section of 495 that drops from 55 to 40, and lots of people speed on it — but more like 65-70 than 80.

I think she is making shit up about how wonderful it is to live on minimum wage (FWIW, she admitted to Backwoods_Sleuth that she’s actually making $12/hr). She is an intern for a Koch front group—-she’s being trained in how to Make Shit Up.

In traffic engineering math, the purpose of a moderately-enforced 40 zone is to pull the average speed down to just below 50. When we had a national 55 limit, the average speed went to about 62. Relaxing it to 65 outside cities raised the freeways to about 72.

re: #115 A Mom Anon

QFT.

She has to be living in the suburbs, probably with a roommate or two.
