Fox News Just Keeps Pumping Out Dishonest Propaganda About Benghazi

Media Matters

The relentless Fox News propaganda about Benghazi never stops, and as all of the allegations pushed by Fox and the GOP (they’re pretty much the same thing, of course) have ended up thoroughly debunked, they’re now reduced to the mindless repetition of blatant lies, simply trying to trick anyone gullible or stupid enough to still respond with outrage to their Pavlovian Benghazi invocation: Fox’s Katie Pavlich Smears Clinton With Benghazi Lie.

Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich smeared Hillary Clinton by claiming that she lied in a speech honoring the victims of the September 2012 attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi, Libya. But Pavlich is distorting Clinton’s remarks.

Fox & Friends covered the announcement that NBC’s entertainment division is planning to air a new mini-series focused on Hillary Clinton’s “life as a wife, mother, politician and cabinet member” sometime before 2015. Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich used the segment as an opportunity to smear Clinton, saying:

PAVLICH: Although Diane Lane is a fantastic actress, I doubt she can act as well as Hillary Clinton did when she lied about that YouTube video in front of flag-draped caskets of Americans as they came home from being killed in Benghazi. So it’s going to be really hard for her to top that performance.

Hillary Clinton didn’t lie about anything, but Fox’s Katie Pavlich certainly is. In her remarks, Clinton was referring to the wave of protests and violence at US embassies across the Middle East after the spread of that infamous anti-Muslim video, and did not conflate the video with the Benghazi attack at all:

This has been a difficult week for the State Department and for our country. We’ve seen the heavy assault on our post in Benghazi that took the lives of those brave men. We’ve seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful internet video that we had nothing to do with. It is hard for the American people to make sense of that because it is senseless, and it is totally unacceptable.

Their bullshit doesn’t even make sense. What was it Clinton was supposed to have lied about?

IMO, this is evidence that Obama has been doing a very important part of his job (i.e., not screwing up big time) just about perfectly. Thus the only material the GOP propaganda machine has to work with are obviously faked scandals that nobody outside the GOP nuthouse takes seriously.

The alternate reality where Obama’s first term was some kind of disaster that ensured a loss in 2012 and ascendency of this GOP for the next 10-20 years (i.e., the Carter scenario the GOP so fervently desired), really doesn’t bear thinking about.

GOP misrule in states they control doubtless extends to sabotaging health care reform.

Meanwhile, states that are doing this properly seem to be seeing significant premium decreases.

The above-referenced GOP sabotage will no doubt have its death and injury toll.

Anyone care for a 150,000 foot free fall?

It’s about two minutes up, then four minutes down, starting in lazy loops through the empty (except for the metal groaning) upper atmosphere; then the Earth’s surface swings with the arc of our fall, the atmosphere thickens, you hear wind, see inky, smoky moments, bursts of flame, winds start whistling by, groaning gets louder, clouds appear below like distant pillows, which we swoosh through and, after ejecting something, there’s a snap, parachutes suddenly appear and we drop, then splash into, under and out of the sea, only to watch something else toppling out of the sky nearby.

What is the big hairy deal about whether the attackers attacked because of the video, and why does it matter whether an initial assessment, carefully couched in qualifiers, was accurate?

I still don’t get that. I’ve asked a lot of Behghazi-mongers exactly what the O administration was lying about and have never gotten a straight answer.

The outrage doesn’t seem to stem from what they lied about - it seems to stem from the act of lying itself. And no, that doesn’t make a lick of sense to me, either.

Frustrated fantasy on the part of the GOP. Benghazi was supposed to be the fall surprise that would give the election to Romney. ‘Facts’ are invented as needed to fit this imperative.

Short answer? Sour grapes. Benghazi was supposed to be Obama’s “Iranian Hostage Crisis,” to be that one big foreign policy clusterfuck that was such a visible sign of how the world didn’t take us seriously under his leadership that they’d run under the GOP’s skirts in order to have a “real leader” at the helm. This ignores the reality that Romney has zero foreign policy experience and his likely SecState nominee would have been John Bolton.

If anything, in the depths of their fever swamps, Benghazi was even worse than Iran. To them, Carter had simply been a fuck-up, a guy who hadn’t taken seriously how much we needed to stomp the Islamists into the ground and support the Shah to do so. But they like to believe that Obama is guilty of far worse, that the rumors of “stand down” orders, of multiple warnings ahead of time, multiple requests for more security, and the rumors of guard explicitly ordered to be unarmed leaves them convinced that Obama either knew that an attack would be devastating or was counting on it being so. The reasons for why they believe he wanted an attack there vary, but the general theme is “He wanted to show America is weak.”

Human Rights Watch detailed findings of extrajudicial executions by Brazil’s state police officers, who report that the killings resulted from shootouts. We found that officers involved in these killings take the corpses to hospitals to destroy crime scene evidence under the false pretext of rescuing them, and in some cases plant evidence on their victims before forensic investigators arrive.

Prexactly. Instead of looking at the facts and coming up with a conclusion that fits them, they simply come up with the conclusion and then cherry-pick the facts that fit it. You know, like pacifists who believe nonviolence is so important that they’d die rather than take up arms.

That seems to be the distinction between “civil rights” and “civil liberties.” You wouldn’t think that they’d need to be differentiated, unless you want to separate out the “liberties” that affect white male middle class Americans from “rights” that concern wimmenz, poorz, blahs, and all those other rabble.

What I remember about that announcement by Mitt was the smug, smarmy smirk on his puss as he left the podium. Probably thought he’d scored big. That’s life inside the bubble - all his friends told him how great it would be to score points on Obama over this, then at the debate he did his famous faceplant. I could watch the moment when Candy Crowley corrected him over and over - he starts out leaning forward, like his prey is in the trap, then his eyes pop open, his head jerks up, he takes an involuntary step backwards. re: #21 Mateo Scourge

What mystifies me about the whole BENGHAZI!!!!11!!!!!! thing is why anyone would give a shit about what it was that they were supposedly lying about?

What is the big hairy deal about whether the attackers attacked because of the video, and why does it matter whether an initial assessment, carefully couched in qualifiers, was accurate?

It’s a big deal because Benghazi. Dear Gentle Uncle Benghazi. Obama should never be forgiven for not using his superpowers to stop the mugger who would eventually kill Uncle Benghazi, while Obama was selfishly in a wrestling ring making some spending money while tossing bin Laden around.
