House Republicans Pass 40th Obamacare Repeal Bill

Wingnuts • Views: 19,194

House Republicans passed their 40th bill to repeal or dismantle Obamacare on Friday before heading home for a month-long recess.

The mostly party-line vote was 232-185.

The “Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act of 2013,” sponsored by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), would prohibit the Internal Revenue Service from implementing “any provisions of or amendments made by” the Affordable Care Act.

The legislation, dead on arrival in the Senate, is part of the GOP’s ongoing quest to rile up their conservative base over Obamacare, this time by exploiting recent wrongdoing by the IRS.

I’m promoting this just because I’d like to say: these people are absolutely abysmal, contemptible idiots.

Please tell me I don’t have to use the “insanity” quote again.

You’d think “fiscal conservatives” would want to stop paying out all those salaries and perks to idiots like these Rs, though.

Getting something done: Voting for something 40 times with zero chance of it moving any further

9 EPR-radar  Fri, Aug 2, 2013 12:42:18pm

The only thing the House GOP can do is take meaningless votes on purity tests for the rabid base.

Passing anything real is clearly beyond their extremely limited capabilities.

For those sane people who still vote R in the hopes that the GOP can be turned around, may I suggest that the GOP needs to hit rock bottom by losing the votes of the moderates and sane people before there will be any chance of reform.

TPM Editor’s Blog: You Gotta Fight, For Your Right … To The ‘N’-word!

As you can see, we have this Charlie Rangel piece up in the feature well in which he argues, colorfully, that the Tea Party is basically the same folks who fought against the Civil Rights Movements back in the day. As you can imagine, a piece like this raises a lot of hackles, brings a lot of not entirely benign people out of the woodwork and tends to turn comments sections up to 11, if not higher. Since the volume of comments made it basically unmoderatable we simply turned off comments on the thread just before it got to 4000 and about 2,000,000 on the awful-o-meter. But not everyone was pleased. What I guess I’ll call TPM Non-Reader SF chimed in as follows …

They had to go with this because all the the rest of the GOP policies are so toxic, they can’t even get their own party to support them.

This is why there is a limit to the damage they can do, as if they haven’t done enough already. Even they know that if they actually implemented the Ryan budget, most of them would be out on their asses in the next election. Obamacare is safe to attack, since its still mostly an abstraction, and even the people who have been benefiting from its provisions mostly don’t realize it. Once millions of Americans have obtained health insurance next year that they can’t afford now, it will be too popular to repeal.

Yes, and it’s way past time for the remaining “sane Republicans” to SPEAK UP and say that their party has lost its way. E.g. Colin Powell and Bob Dole.

I realize there’s plenty of craziness on the “other side”, e.g. Cynthia McKinney, Glenn Greenwald. (Not quite sure where Glenn fits in.) But that’s no excuse. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Sane Republicans need to speak up, now and often. Will this craziness go on until January 20, 2017, when President Obama steps down? Beyond?

The difference is that, these days the insanity on the left are individuals and unorganized. On the right, it is almost the entire population, well organized and funded.

It’s going to go on until the day Hell freezes over. The sane Right’s only hope now is to start a new party. The GOP is terminal.
