RNC’s Priebus Warns NBC and CNN Not to Produce Shows About Hillary Clinton

Smell the idiocy
Politics • Views: 30,496

Demonstrating once again that laser-like focus on jobs and the economy, Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus has sent a letter to NBC and CNN threatening that if they produce a miniseries on Hillary Clinton, the GOP will boycott them in the 2016 primary debates.

It’s August, Congress is gone, and it’s time for the silly season — which gets off to a fun start with a new Republican National Committee threat against NBC and CNN. It seems that unless NBC drops plans for a miniseries on Hillary Clinton, and CNN drops plans to air a documentary about the former Secretary of State, the RNC is threatening to boycott those networks in 2016 primary debates.

Now, never mind that, whatever the merits or lack thereof of a miniseries about a prospective presidential candidate, it’s pretty amazing that Republicans would object to news coverage of Clinton on CNN. Which is exactly what they’re doing here. Also, never mind that in reality it’s almost certainly a bluff. Parties don’t partner with TV networks for primary debates as a favor to the networks; they do it because they want exposure for their candidates.

What’s really going on?

Ooh, ooh! I know! The Republican Party is floundering in outmoded reactionary stupidity, and this is exactly the kind of stuff they know plays very well with the most ignorant elements of their base. Next question!

It’s not a warning, it’s a threat…and an empty one at that. If the RNC boycotts two of the three cable news channels, the RNC might as well throw in the towel.

Is the RNC really trying to force the network to choose between programming with advertising and ratings versus the debates?

You know, it seems like the GOP has just become a bunch of whiny losers. Reince Priebus just LOOKS LIKE a whiny loser, and this just really captures it - an empty threat about debates, threatening to cut off his own nose to spite his face. Maybe he should just threaten to hold his breath till he turns blue.

Seems to me that between this, and their spectacular failure on the ‘Rebranding’ front, they should throw in the TROWEL, because they hole they’re in is deep enough.

The most pressing issue to ever face Wisconsin is being tackled by the GOP!!!

GOP lawmaker targets roundabouts on Wisconsin highways

Waunakee Village Administrator Todd Schmidt sums up attitudes about roundabouts like this:

“You don’t have many people jumping up and down clamoring for roundabouts. You really have more of two camps, those who really, really hate them and those who have a take-it-or-leave-it type of attitude.”

Schmidt has first-hand experience observing attitudes surrounding roundabouts. His village has debated a state Department of Transportation plan to turn the intersection at Highway 19 and County Highway Q into a giant roundabout, the construction of which begins next Memorial Day.

State Rep. David Craig, R-town of Vernon, has introduced a bill that could give roundabout opponents their say. The proposal would require the DOT to get approval from local governments for roundabouts included in state highway projects.

‘Democratic wing’ of Democratic Party takes on Wall Street

Brown, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and many others are leading the opposition to the administration’s corporate trade policies. This winter, the president’s push to gain “fast track” trade authority — to be able to force an up or down vote on future trade accords now under negotiation — will face fierce opposition from those calling for a new manufacturing and trade strategy to revive manufacturing here at home. Over two-thirds of the House Democratic freshmen legislators have already expressed their opposition.

Next year congressional Democrats will push to mitigate our Gilded Age inequality. The administration will join the drive to raise the minimum wage. Progressives will demand action on perverse CEO compensation schemes that give executives multimillion-dollar personal incentives to focus on next quarter returns rather than long-term strength.

A sign of progressive strength is President Barack Obama’s turn against austerity in the run-up to the ugly budget debate due to begin this fall. He has stumped for a long-term strategy to rebuild the middle class - founded in part on vital investments in education, infrastructure, new energy and research and development. But Democrats are openly worried that he will cede too much to the Republican right to gain agreement on keeping the government operating.

Greenwald: Embassy closings looks like a conspiracy to silence NSA debate

“Here we are in the midst of one the most intense debates and sustain debates that we’ve had in a very long time in this country over the dangers of excess surveillance, and suddenly an administration that has spent two claiming that it has decimated Al-Qaeda decides that there is this massive threat that involves the closing of embassies and consulates throughout the world,” Greenwald explained. “And within literally an amount of hours, the likes of Saxby Chambliss and Lindsey Graham join with the White House and Democrats in Congress — who, remember, are the leading defenders of the NSA at this point — to exploit that terrorist threat, and to insist that it shows that the NSA and these programs are necessary.”

Goodman pointed out Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger’s (D-MD) had said on Sunday that Greenwald’s reporting had been wrong and that members of Congress were being given ample opportunity to learn about the NSA programs.

“I hope Dutch Ruppersberger takes a much more prominent role in the political debate because he’s basically the embodiment of the rotted soul that is become the Democratic Party,” the Guardian columnist quipped.

Fox News hosts dismissed security experts and Congressional Republicans who praised the Obama administration’s decision to temporarily close embassies to protect Americans from terror threats, suggesting the move was a “gross overreaction” and falsely attacking the administration for a “cover-up” of the September 2012 attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi.

CNN to RNC:

CNN Films, a division of CNN Worldwide, commissioned a documentary about Hillary Clinton earlier this year. It is expected to premiere in 2014 with a theatrical run prior to airing on CNN. This documentary will be a non-fiction look at the life of a former First Lady and Secretary of State. Instead of making premature decisions about a project that is in the very early stages of development and months from completion, we would encourage the members of the Republican National Committee to reserve judgment until they know more. Should they decide not to participate in debates on CNN, we would find it curious, as limiting their debate participation seems to be the ultimate disservice to voters.

The ulterior motive?

The Hidden Motivation Behind GOP Threats to Boycott NBC, CNN

The Republican Party threatened Monday to pull 2016 Republican primary debates from CNN and NBC if they do not drop plans for special programs on potential 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton—a move that could help the national party winnow the number of debates in the coming presidential election cycle.

[…]

Priebus’ threat has already paid off in rallying Republicans to his cause in advance of the meeting next week. Iowa Republican Party chairman A.J. Spiker tweeted that his state would stand with the RNC against CNN and NBC.

Lawyers: Illegal body cavity searches of women standard policy at Texas traffic stops

Lawyer representing women who faced “unconstitutional” cavity searches of their genitals at traffic stops in Texas last year have said that the practice is essentially standard practice in many jurisdictions.

In two separate cases last year, four women said that they were humiliated with illegal cavity searches on the side of Texas highways. Angel Dobbs, 38, and her 24-year-old niece, Ashley Dobbs were searched after a trooper saw them throw a cigarette butt out the car window. And Brandy Hamilton, 27, and Alexandria Randle, 26, were searched after a trooper claimed he smelled marijuana.

“It’s ridiculous,” Dallas attorney and former police officer Peter Schulte told The New York Daily News. “We would never put our hands anywhere near someone’s private parts… When I saw that video I was shocked. I was a law enforcement officer for 16 years and I’ve never seen anything like it.”

The New Low Bar For ‘Ex-Gays’: ‘One Ex-Gay Is Enough’

Last week’s “ex-gay pride” press conference — replete with cheers for the harmful ineffective therapy — was a dismal failure with less than a dozen participants. Compared to the “thousands” of ex-gays its organizers claim exist, the turnout seemed to confirm that “Ex-gay Pride Month” events were canceled not because of supposed security threats, but because people simply were not going to show up.

Christopher Doyle, head of the so-called “Voice of the Voiceless” group that has organized the non-existent Ex-gay Pride Month events, has lowered his bar to compensate. He argues that even the testimony of one “former homosexual” is significant enough:

But let’s imagine double that number showed up, or maybe 50, or perhaps even 100. Would that be enough? For anti-ex-gay extremists, it would not. In my view, it is significant in our current anti-ex-gay climate that even ONE former homosexual is willing to share their experience and speak out publicly. So why do activists make such a big deal over the numbers? The reason is because they want to make it seem like the only ex-gays who are vocal are a small group of profiteers that are fooling vulnerable individuals; in essence, they claim we are liars and charlatans that are misleading others.

But what they do not realize is that it only takes ONE ex-gay that has changed to put a wrench in the “born that way, cannot change” strategy they are using to deceive the public. The fact is, these activists cannot handle the existence of ONE person who says they have experienced change from same-sex attraction to opposite sex attraction, much less nine of us telling our stories at one time. So they need to mock, belittle, and downplay the significance of yesterday’s events. That is why there is so much anger. So much intimidation. So much disrespect. So much harassment.

There is no evidence of any intimidation, disrespect, or harassment against the ex-gay community — of course, it’s not clear there even is a cohesive ex-gay community that could experience, let alone testify, to that kind of victimization. Any anger directed at those championing the shame-based treatment might well be justified because of the significant harm that so many have experienced at the hands of ex-gay therapy.
