Jeff Bezos Buys Washington Post, Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro Sees the Hidden Hand of Obama

All that hate is pickling their brains
Wingnuts • Views: 23,859

Breitbart propagandist Ben Shapiro has uncovered another BOMBSHELL BREAKING STORY today — the conspiracy between President Obama and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to oppress him: OBAMA VISITED AMAZON 6 DAYS BEFORE FOUNDER BOUGHT WAPO!

While conservatives and liberals consider the political leanings of Washington Post buyer and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in an attempt to divine how his politics will affect those of the historic institution, the truth appears to be far simpler: the Post is now Bezos’ latest political tool in a crony capitalist effort to work with the Obama administration. How else to explain President Obama puzzling decision last week to roll out his corporate tax plan at an amazon.com fulfillment center?

[…]

The sale of the Post was supposed to be top-secret, with staffers asked not to tweet about it for ten minutes. But it’s more than possible that the Obama administration had some advance notice about the sale, and that Obama appeared at the Amazon warehouse as a sign of good faith to Bezos prior to the move.

MORE THAN POSSIBLE! That sounds dire. Thank Jeebus we have true patriots like Ben Shapiro to keep us abreast of these diabolical plots.

Meanwhile, here’s something that makes a lot more sense than Shapiro’s hate-addled ramblings: the Taiwanese Animators version of the Bezos-Washington Post story.

Obama (and probably Soros) encouraged Bezos to buy WaPo.
Bezos owns Amazon.
Therefore Amazon kinda owns WaPo.
WaPo is a newspaper.
Newspapers are failing.
Woot! is a subsidiary of Amazon.
Therefore WaPo kind of owns Woot!.
Therefore Woot! is failing.
Woot! is located in Texas.
Therefore Obama (and Soros) are trying to hurt Texas.
Texas is represented in Congress, most illustriously I might add, by a certain Louie Gohmert.

As usual, Shapiro is an idiot. Bezos has been saying for ages that print is dying and that no one will pay for information online. It’s more than possible that he bought the WaPo as an experiment in new media.

Honestly, I’d love to see him revamp WaPo. Send the dregs and idiots from the op-ed page (Rubin, Milibank, Cohen, Krauthammer) to go work the line at an Amazon Fulfillment Center and redo the entire paper from the ground up. Kill the physical version of WaPo and make it relevant online.

Tablet computers, smartphones, and ebooks are becoming ubiquitous in a fashion and with a speed not seen since TV became major form of media during the past century. We look back today and snicker about the predictions that TV would be a passing fad, a cultural wasteland, and that people would still tune into radio as they had done in decades past. In 20 years, we’ll probably be snickering at those who say that people will always want the feel and smell of paper and won’t accept electronic books and newspapers.

Fischer Asserts That CIA Director John Brennan Is A Muslim

On his radio broadcast this afternoon, Fischer cited another totally untrustworthy story claiming that President Obama would be meeting with high-ranking Muslim Brotherhood officials, which then prompted him to boldly declare that “John Brennan is a Muslim … He’s a devout Muslim, he’s a die-hard Muslim, he believes what Muslims believe” despite having literally no evidence to support that claim whatsoever.

Well, of course he is Bryan, bless your heart.

The 7 Craziest Obamacare Conspiracy Theories

The Claim: In late July, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), citing a study by the Chamber of Commerce, asserted that three-quarters of all small businesses have said they’re going to fire workers or cut hours. Rubio said this is due to the provision in the law that requires businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to offer affordable health coverage or face a penalty.

The Reality: The Chamber study involved 1,300 small business executives, but PolitiFact did some digging and found out that the Chamber did not actually survey the entire group on whether they’d fire employees because of the law. Only 17 percent of survey members said they would be impacted by the law’s so-called employer mandate. Out of that 17 percent of small businessmen and women, the study purportedly found that 75 percent of them said they would cut hours or replace workers, but Politico found that even that number was fudged by lumping survey questions together. Math shows that out of all small business execs in the study, only 5 to 9 percent actually said they would cut back hours or replace full-time workers in response to the health care law.

But, if what Bezos said is true, and he won’t be involved in the day to day operations of WAPO (and I assume editorial content), are we to believe him if digitizing the paper is how it winds up? Or, maybe he is just a rich guy who needs a diversion, because print media is still taking a beating, and ad revenues are falling everywhere. And ad revenues are where it’s at, even online. So I’d be interested in Bezos’s input on this and where he thinks the paper will wind up.

Yeah, there’s some kind of network problem that seems to be regional right now.

If you’re in an area where Twitter’s down, it’s also messing with the LGF Javascript a little bit. Some of the automatic functions aren’t automatic.

do you pull javascript libraries from a hosting site ‘live’, or do you download them to your local?

REBRANDING!!

Thing is, they’re not even trying to avoid being a bunch of unoriginal bastards here:

The game was originally created by Marie Poe and published at the now-defunct website SlapHillary.com in 2000. Her husband, Richard Poe, attempted to explain the game by comparing Clinton’s campaign for the U.S. Senate to the Soviet Union.

“With each slap, we sense that we are drawing nearer to a Siberian prison cell. But our anxiety only makes the slap more thrilling,” he wrote on his blog, claiming journalists were conspiring to help Clinton win the New York Senate seat. “This sort of manipulation has left many Americans feeling like Soviet citizens back in the days of Pravda and Izvestia. Buffeted by propaganda, we feel helpless and alone. We watch our friends and neighbors with guarded eyes, wondering which of them might share our opinion of Hillary. But we are afraid to ask.”

A prime example of how all “conservatives” have is the past, either real or imagined.

The first billion dollars in a presidential race are spent so that ‘everybody knows the name’. That is a biggie in Hillary’s favor.

I think both parties have always done what you describe in your last paragraph. And since it was Hillary’s turn in 2008, it’s her turn even more in 2016, if she wants it.

Only a week ago Erickson wrote this:

[…]

I don’t know a Christian who is anti-science. Christians haven’t suddenly declared science anti-God, but the left has declared God and Christians anti-science. I don’t know a church that has declared allegiance to a political party or a single nation. But I know the left parodies evangelicals that way. […]

For those historical revisionist asshats you all are fighting out there, from
The Writer’s Almanac writersalmanac.publicradio.org today:

It was on this day in 1965 that Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act that ended the long era of voter discrimination in many Southern states. Johnson had been delaying legislation on voting rights, because he thought it was too soon for it to succeed. But after a group of civil rights marchers were attacked in Selma, Alabama, he gave a speech on TV, in which he said: “I speak tonight for the dignity of man and the destiny of democracy. The command of the Constitution is plain. There is no moral issue. It is wrong to deny any of your fellow Americans the right to vote … it is all of us who must overcome the crippling legacy of bigotry and injustice. And we shall overcome.”

That was the first time the president of the United States had ever used the phrase, “We shall overcome.” Martin Luther King Jr. was watching the address on TV that night, and he later said that when he heard Lyndon Johnson say the words “we shall overcome,” he burst into tears. The president signed the legislation a few months later, on this day in 1965.

Emphasis added.

Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County) said one of the reasons he quit newspapers was that the Washington Post comic editors kept censoring his work. He couldn’t say the words “gay, “damn”, and the paper freaked when he drew a character in a head scarf.

Bezos can be my friend if he blows that up. Really- there’s no reason why comics have to be more conservative than they were during High Reaganism.

Maybe he can do something about all of the comics by dead/retired artists being recycled on the comics page every single day. Just maybe there are other people out there who deserve a shot.

1. It’s possible that Bezos’s purchase is public-spirited. It’s also possible that he thinks he brings things to the business that traditional publishers don’t. It’s also possible that he views WaPo as a tool for lobbying Congress on behalf of Amazon.

For example, Amazon has flipflopped on the issue of an Internet sales tax by individual states. Rumor has it that Amazon has patented the necessary software. Having used the Internet tax moratorium to grow huge, Amazon now may be trying to block that path to potential future competitors.

2. Gosh, it sure is odd that Shapiro, Ace Reporter, doesn’t delve into this aspect of the situation. ////////

The question Inez needs to ask herself is whether she wants to learn and write about actual history - i.e. shit that actually happened - or does she simply want to quotemine and cherrypick history for nuggets that will seem to support her team.

You can be propagandist, or a historian, but you have to choose.

re: #244 jvic

It comes down to nexus. If Amazon has warehouses in state, the company has nexus. They’re pushing to build warehouses since it fits into their same day shipping, which enables them to do things like groceries and other perishables, as well as impulse buys.

Same day opens a whole new world of hurt on big box stores, including Walmart, Target, and electronics chains.

But until they settled on that strategy, putting warehouses into a state meant that the company would have to collect and remit sales tax from those states that impose them (the other way is via affiliate nexus or Amazon laws designed to secure tax collections for online purchases via companies like Amazon that claim not to have a physical presence in the state and leave collection of tax up to the purchaser in the state who more likely than not ignores the use tax collection requirements).

Amazon worked out deals with NJ and a couple other states to do collection in exchange for warehouses and jobs in the states (some offer tax incentives for new jobs created, so they benefit from those credits/incentives too).

265 Eclectic Cyborg  Tue, Aug 6, 2013 5:18:28pm

Holy shit.

Two young children in Pennsylvania were banned from talking about fracking for the rest of their lives under a gag order imposed under a settlement reached by their parents with a leading oil and gas company.

The sweeping gag order was imposed under a $750,000 settlement between the Hallowich family and Range Resources Corp, a leading oil and gas driller. It provoked outrage on Monday among environmental campaigners and free speech advocates.

The settlement, reached in 2011 but unsealed only last week, barred the Hallowichs’ son and daughter, who were then aged 10 and seven, from ever discussing fracking or the Marcellus Shale, a leading producer in America’s shale gas boom.

The Hallowich family had earlier accused oil and gas companies of destroying their 10-acre farm in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania and putting their children’s health in danger. Their property was adjacent to major industrial operations: four gas wells, gas compressor stations, and a waste water pond, which the Hallowich family said contaminated their water supply and caused burning eyes, sore throats and headaches.

Gag orders - on adults - are typical in settlements reached between oil and gas operators and residents in the heart of shale gas boom in Pennsylvania. But the company lawyer’s insistence on extending the lifetime gag order to the Hallowichs’ children gave even the judge pause, according to the court documents.

The family gag order was a condition of the settlement. The couple told the court they agreed because they wanted to move to a new home away from the gas fields, and to raise their children in a safer environment. “We need to get the children out of there for their health and safety,” the children’s mother, Stephanie Hallowich, told the court.

Try this:

Strip off all the cables

do a little spot-weld on the freewheel so it won’t

Indeed. Competition-driven economic growth is often unpleasant for many, but it can be argued and I’m willing to believe that within limits the advantages outweigh the deficiencies.

However, when the economically powerful enlist the government to act against the economically disadvantaged be they consumers or competitors, they are begging for the public to get fed up and shut the whole circus down.

We might be closer to that than the wise guys think. Unfortunately, it’s in the nature of a wise guy to grab what he can and leave the negative consequences for someone else to deal with.

She ends with:

Obviously, modern liberals are not slave owners, and some of the most odious aspects of the antebellum slavery defenders’ philosophy have been rejected across the political spectrum today. However, intellectual heritage remains important.

These were the underlying principles of President Obama’s campaign during the 2012 election from which conservatives recoiled in horror, particularly the “Life of Julia” message that depicted an American woman entirely dependent on government and Democratic programs. Through each stage of life the “benign” hand of government swoops in and protects the citizen from the dangers of the free market and liberty itself, taking upon itself the burden of everything from his self-defense to his choice of environmentally-friendly light bulbs.

The cradle-to-grave entitlement society of government interference, regulation and control is a departure from the principles of a free society. The left’s vision of “freedom” is based on different doctrines than those that animated the Founding Fathers, doctrines more beholden to John C. Calhoun’s pro-slavery political science than Thomas Jefferson’s philosophy of liberty.

Thomas Jefferson “owned” approximately 200 slaves.

Nope. Just a standard automatic movement small enough to fit in this watch.

Incredible. George was a rarely gifted piano player and great singer.

Charles;

Just got here. Please allow my to express my deepest sympathy and condolences on the death of your dear friend and mentor.

We are all mortal, we all know days like this are coming, and they always suck like an F5 tornado.

Be at peace, my friend.

She ends with:

Thomas Jefferson “owned” approximately 200 slaves.

basically, she concludes that helping people is like slavery because slave owners took care of their property/slaves.

to be truly free, she concludes, you must be left at the mercy of the holy sainted free market, which apparently is described somewhere between deuteronomy and 2nd kings

tell her to be truly free herself, then, clearly she should cut herself off from any further assistance from her parents, and in addition pay them back ASAP for all of the financial assistance they have tendered her in the course of her life

it’s what ayn rand would do, isn’t it?

Holy shit.

What the hell are we doing to ourselves???

1) I think I know these people. They adopted a kid from my older children’s orphanage.
2) surely there is no legal way to impose a lifetime gag order on a 7-year-old? Our legal system cannot really be that f***ed up. I get why the parents had to agree to this deal but I hope that when those kids turn 18 they find a way to speak out plenty about what happened to their family.

You know what this reminds me of? “Liberal Fascism’, where you simply redefine everything so it allows you to accuse Liberals of whatever you want. You know, like “Hitler was a vegetarian. Many vegetarians are liberal, therefore liberals are just like Hitler.”

It’s intellectual dishonesty, but more importantly, it’s classic Bullshit - it doesn’t matter to the bullshitter whether or not it’s true, as long as it works. And since RW ‘Think’ Tanks exist to provide comfort in the face of the cognitive dissonance inherent in modern Conservatism, this little puddle of drool is effective.

That would make more sense in that certain sphere of the far-right. Sites like Stormfront being just one example. David Duke’s notoriety with PressTV. Etc.

334 GeneJockey  Tue, Aug 6, 2013 6:21:56pm

The other thing that really rankles about her ‘Liberalism = intellectual descendant of slavery’ nonsense is that the South seceded because they didn’t want Government interfering with their property rights, i.e. their ‘right’ to buy and sell human beings, and to steal their labor. They are the intellectual ancestors of the propertarian Right of today.

335 Gus  Tue, Aug 6, 2013 6:22:44pm

No doubt a mish mash of things. A little of this, a little of that.

336 Gus  Tue, Aug 6, 2013 6:23:41pm

Hmm. Almost similar to the PA shooter from last night.

‘Government conspiracies’

The programme discovered that Tamerlan Tsarnaev possessed articles which argued that both 9/11 and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing were government conspiracies.

Another in his possession was about “the rape of our gun rights”.

Reading material he had about white supremacy commented that “Hitler had a point”.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev also had literature which explored what motivated mass killings and noted how the perpetrators murdered and maimed calmly.

There was also material about US drones killing civilians, and about the plight of those still imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay.

Remember this stunt?

…the same coalition of right-wing activists have mounted an effort to replace Straus with someone more inclined to do their bidding:

A group of conservative groups is trying to capitalize on that frustration, issuing a letter Nov. 4 calling for a new Speaker. The signatories include representatives from a lot of major conservative groups, including Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, Texas Right to Life, Americans for Prosperity, the Texas Eagle Forum, [Vision America,] Liberty Institute, former Republican Party of Texas Chairman Cathie Adams, and former Republican Party of Texas vice-chairman David Barton. Of particular concern to grass roots conservatives is the fate of bills requiring showing photo ID prior to voting and bills that limit property taxes.

349 Gus  Tue, Aug 6, 2013 6:36:04pm

Maybe not…

Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s citizenship application was pending

WASHINGTON — Despite reports that Tamerlan Tsarnaev harbored resentment over the U.S. denying his citizenship application, the application was still pending at the time of the Boston Marathon bombings, a law enforcement source said Sunday…

Pretty conclusive evidence though that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a major asshole.
