GOHMERT! Obama Is Stirring Up ‘Racial Tension and Violence’

Today’s episode of “Dumbest Man in Congress”

In today’s episode of “Dumbest Man in Congress,” Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert is parroting the standard nonsensical right wing line that President Obama is a racist trying to provoke a race war.

“I tell you what though, in that release there was a great statement that I’m glad somebody in this administration finally admitted because they’re constantly screaming about all the hate violence and all of this kind of stuff,” Gohmert said. “Of course we know that this president and this administration has done more to stir up racial tension and violence than any administration since, you know, the sixties. I thought that we were going to have a post-racial president and he’s become the president of division, of envy, of jealousy.”

Translation: “We racists feel that blaming Obama for the noxious shit we say is easier than denying it any longer!”

Remember when Glenn Beck actually got in trouble for saying Obama was “a racist with a deep-seated hatred of white people?”

This is now completely mainstream Republican thought.

I wondered where all that racial tension and violent ideation was coming from.

Let them tar themselves with it. The TPGOP can spend both HC administrations trying to scrape the dung off.

It is what we get for letting those guys stir everything up in the, you know, sixties…everything was just fine back then, and now look what it has led to…

Yet another example of DARVO, namely blaming Obama for their racist actions by claiming he’s somehow engaging in “racist” actions that provoke their response.

Yep. See also most of their excuses for their own inaction, such as the attempts now to spin a potential government shutdown and default in September as “Obama forcing us to do this by not agreeing to defund Obamacare!”

I’ve seen worse, back in the Bush years, when a wingnut friend told me that waterboarding wasn’t torture because the detainees could stop it any time they wanted by telling their torturers interrogators what they wanted to know.

I told him that’s exactly what Torquemada would have said - ‘These Jews aren’t being tortured. They can stop it any time by recanting their heresy and embracing the True Faith!”

Response? Crickets.

Along those lines, I’d ask my wingnut uncle if he thought medieval Europe was really full of witches. After all, he said waterboarding was effective, and the Church loved to waterboard people until they confessed to witchcraft.

Exactly. Godwin’s Law is actually a statement about the likelihood of a ridiculous comparison to Hitler or Nazis being made. Citing actual facts about Hitler or Nazis, or neo-Nazis, is not a Godwin violation.

On the other hand, the “Stasi” nonsense that’s sprouted up around the NSA is totally a Godwin violation in spirit.

This is kind of messed up…

Bad News: Your medical records may be for sale

Digital records make it very easy for hospitals to share aggregate data with state agencies for research and population-tracking purposes. This data has any identifying information stripped off before it leaves the hospital, which means that your privacy is ensured, right?

Well, not so fast. While researchers have no evidence that anyone is actually doing this, it is theoretically possible for data miners to buy this population-wide health data from the state government, then plug in other information from public databases and firms that track consumer behavior.

In practical terms, this means that it wouldn’t be hard to put together different puzzle pieces and figure out who the 50-year-old man with small-cell lung cancer in ZIP code 87104 is. The histories that researchers in Washington pieced together are even scarier: they identified one man who had pancreatic cancer and had attempted suicide. He didn’t want to be publicly identified.

One person who researchers identified solely from the data went public to tell everyone how much this whole thing scares the crap out of him. “I feel I’ve been violated,” one retiree said. Researchers found him by matching up health records of his injuries with a local news story about a motorcycle crash he was involved in.

I don’t do a whole lot of portraiture stuff, sticking mostly to landscapes and some macros. Looking to get a good fisheye, and maybe a real serious wide angle lens.

Last night I tried my hand at getting some of the Perseids, but they weren’t showy when we were out. Too early in the evening, and the clouds began moving in so it would have cut short the show by us. But did get a couple of nice exposures of the sky despite a whole lot of light pollution.

Carrying a bunch of film (back when I was shooting film and not digital), plus all the gear meant that I was invariably asked to have my carry on checked at least one leg of each flight. Switching to digital has helped a bit - don’t have to worry about the film getting screwed up with the x-rays, especially if I was carrying 1600 speed film, which I did a few times.

On a related note to the theme of this thread , I noticed that WorldNetDaily’s resident white nationalism peddler - previously reported at LGF here: (littlegreenfootballs.com ) is at it yet again:

(via google cache)
Man in coma after black mob of 50 pummels him

“A gang of African-American males and females beat a white male nearly to death, and it isn’t a hate crime?” said Tiffany Johnson in the reader comment section of the Pioneer Press. “And why isn’t the NAACP speaking out about this terrible crime?”

“The media continues to dismay with their clear double standard in news coverage regarding their agenda in matters of race,” said Keith Olson. “The media loves to sensationalize white-on-black victimization and literally turns a blind eye when the races are reversed. I am not surprised whatsoever that whites are finally showing their displeasure with this sort of distortion when it comes to the propaganda they are fed.”

“If you look at the crime stats, the vast majority of such incidents are committed by young black males,” said Jim Russell. “We can’t help them solve this problem if we won’t admit it exists. Don’t make it worse by falling for the PC media narratives.”

Note that they are quoting from “Pioneer Press”, which just so happens to be one of the main publishing arms of the white nationalist Pioneer Fund group.

And if you have any doubts whatsoever whether this isn’t playing right into their userbase - here’s a typical comment from the story:

They don’t care about your religion or lack of it, whether you’re a moonbat or wingnut, young or old, smart or stupid, attractive or homely, rich or poor, legal or illegal, black or white… all they care about is that you give them some food, some love, and a warm place to sleep.

Would that we humans were so easily satisfied.

From Wiki:

Louie Gohmert

Gohmert stated in a House Judiciary Hearing on May 15, 2013, that he believed the FBI did not act with due diligence concerning alleged bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. His contention was that the FBI was more interested in Christian groups such as those led by Billy and Franklin Graham than in groups that might be considered less politically correct to target. Attorney General Eric Holder responded to his claims: “The only observation I was going to make is that you state as a matter of fact what the FBI did and did not do. Unless somebody has done something inappropriate, you don’t have access to the FBI files,” said Holder. “I know what the FBI did. You cannot know what I know. That’s all.” Gohmert objected to this on the grounds that Holder had “challenge[d]” his character. After several attempts to inject his viewpoint as a point of personal privilege Gohmert stated: “The attorney general will not cast aspersions on my asparagus”.

Wait, what?

re: #88 Lidane

They’re actually sitting on a huge pile of cash (taking loans against themselves to avoid repatriation taxes - cash from overseas being brought back to the US).

Currently, the company has $145b in cash on hand. It could bail out Detroit’s $18b debt, and barely dent the company’s bottom line (and the company could probably write off a percentage of that as goodwill…) or it could buy Facebook, RIM, and a few other minor companies and still have enough to give every stockholder a fat dividend.

re: #106 NJDhockeyfan

I don’t actually think Hamas will be behind these attacks; watch for the PRCs or Islamic Jihad. Hamas has been laying low for a while, namely because of all the problems in Syria, the election in Iran, and the possibility that they’re going to get some of their own released as part of the prisoner release.

I’m not a big fan of the prisoner releases, particularly because of the lop-sided results. Hamas or Fatah claim to succeed when they’ve given up nothing in return for returning to talks publicly. Talk is cheap. The sides all know what’s needed, and the groundwork isn’t there to make a peace deal on a 2-state solution happen. Fatah-Hamas have yet to reconcile and power sharing is still a ways off.

There’s a real lack of goodwill and trust among the parties, and that’s despite the fact that the PA has been controlling much of the West Bank since 1993 and operating with security arrangements over most of the West Bank in that time.

Water sharing, mineral rights, etc., and housing are all things that can be easily overcome. The right of return and demands for Jerusalem aren’t. Those two issues will thwart any peace deal, especially when assassination of whoever succeeds in coming up with the formula for that deal is a real possibility - among both Israelis (the Rabin assassination) and Palestinians.

119 FemNaziBitch  Tue, Aug 13, 2013 12:53:43pm

fascinating history:

Back in 1978, the definition of rape was very narrow. The victim had to be 14 or older, could not be the assailant’s spouse and the sex had to be sexual penetration by force. This narrow definition of rape in the law told the victim that if she did not meet the law’s definition of rape, then she was not a rape victim.

As we started to get some data on the prevalence of rape and how many different types of rape that were beyond the law’s definition of rape, we started to focus on how to get the law to better address the broad spectrum of rape.

Illinois is the birthplace of the rape kit, who knew?

Fatigue is really setting in from all these asshats like Gohmert, Stockman, Cruz and the like and their followers—the wingnuts tend to suck all the oxygen from the room. I still want to make comparisons between the 1930s and today, although all the parts don’t fit together exactly right. But the mood has to be very similar—the rank and file RW is just louder and the German American Bund was competing w/the KKK in some areas. Yep. I had some guy once ask if I wasn’t proud of my white heritage, what with all that white folks had accomplished.

I said, “Why should I be proud of that stuff? I didn’t do any of it.” And of course as you say, we’re supposed to be proud of all the accomplishments of Western Civilization, but not include stuff like slavery, genocide, and progressively more destructive wars killing ever larger numbers of people. The Western Civilization that gave us Magna Carta and the Constitution also gave us the Crusades, the Thirty Years War, the Spanish Inquisition, the genocide of the Native Americans, the Reign of Terror, and the Holocaust. Oh, about Icahn taking a stake in Apple- here was what he said last year:

Icahn has designs on pushing Apple in a new direction. He claims to see a “leadership vacuum” at the company and plenty of opportunity to expand the company’s user base. “Apple has aggressively pursued a niche market,” Icahn said. “It has been successful in that niche, but that is only one small piece of the pie. By cutting itself off from lower price points, it is capping its potential for success.”

Icahn says that Apple has pursued branding prestige with too much vigor, noting that “all the prestige in the world won’t get somebody to buy a laptop for $1,000 when he could buy the same one for $600,” a line of attack Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer recently used.

You think you’ve got a problem? My older son, who’s supposed to be earning his keep by cooking dinner, insisted on making Fettuccini Alfredo last night - the real thing, with 2 cups of heavy cream, half a stick of butter, and a cup of grated Parmagiano Reggiano.

I’m hoping this was a one-off, and doesn’t become a regular part of his repertoire, which is already deadly enough. I’ve tried teaching him how to cook vegetables, but the closed he’s come is preparing romaine lettuce for salad by tearing the heads apart like he was strangling them.

It’s all in the crust. If the crust is bad, the whole pie is affected.

Yep. It’s a skill I’m still figuring out.

I like baking. I like cooking too, but when I do, the boyfriend sticks his nose in and starts seasoning things and ruining my groove. Baking is the one time I can get him the hell out of the kitchen until I’m done. Haha.

My mom never failed with crusts. she used a recipe from a 100 year old recipe book that instructed you how to set the fire in your cast iron stove.

She used crisco and one of these.

Our local WoodCraft shop does a class on making an acoustic guitar about twice a year. Even though I have NO musical ability I’d love to do that class, just for the learning value of it.

Big time saver there. Nothing beats good tools. When or if the CFL’s get old or quit- I switched to LED from CFL and I’m very pleased.
