Wikileaks Store Snowden T-Shirt Designer Sells Dartboard w/Bullseye on Obama’s Forehead

Wikileak’s Rodeo Clown

A story today in the Wall Street Journal, Edward Snowden Talks With His Father, reveals that Wikileaks has opened a store which also includes Edward Snowden merchandise.

WikiLeaks also recently began selling Edward Snowden merchandise, including T-shirts and coffee mugs, via its online store. WikiLeaks didn’t respond to questions about the fund or allegations made by with Lon Snowden’s legal team.

Navigating to said website we find a particular item being sold by Wikileaks, Edward Snowden - Whistleblower:

The details read:

Help WikiLeaks support Edward Snowden, surveillance state whistleblower, with this great design from LibertyManiacs.com - illustration by Dan McCall. In a statement, Edward Snowden has said ‘I believe in the principle declared at Nuremberg in 1945: “Individuals have international duties which transcend the national obligations of obedience. Therefore individual citizens have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent crimes against peace and humanity from occurring.’ State spying on us all, turning citizens into suspects, surely falls in to that category. Support the whistleblowers who risk all for you!

I was able to find his Twitter account, @libertymaniacs, and quickly found Tweets such as the ones below:

Items and designs at his Zazzle page also indicate a suggestion that he is a climate change denier.

Finally, we find that Snowden t-shirt designer being sold at the Wikileaks store is also the designer and distributor of a dart board depicting President Obama as a zombie with the default bulls eye placed directly on the president’s forehead.

Other Obama derangement designs of his can be found here.

It appears as though Wikileaks has found themselves their very own rodeo clown.

So Edward, how does it feel to be pimped out & used like a sad desperate hooker by Julian Assange? Living in a surveillance state that respects only raw political power & kills inconvenient dissidents like journalists? That working out as expected?

They had a documentary on how farking insane the fans of One Direction are. The stuff in it is pretty bad.

As we know, Twitter is also a great platform for unkindness, and a scorned Directioner is a terrifying beast. GQ staff were threatened with stabbing and worse this month after the magazine featured the band above slightly edgy cover lines. Taylor Swift, Harry’s embittered ex, was the villain last night. One sweet young girl threatened to tear her eyes out and stamp on them.

I actually think one direction is worse than Justin Beiber. Link to video explains why, but it boils down to the songs being “PUA shit” in audio form.

That also explains why Taylor may be a bit embittered. People have weaknesses. Hers is falling in love (Still a fan here). Unfortunately, she fell for a pick-up-artist piece of shit in whatever-the-fuck-his-name-is in One Direction.

re: #83 OhNoZombies!

Buying it. Another quote:

This book is a book I’ve been waiting for for many years. I, too, grew up a “Birch kid” and Claire Conner’s story resonates deeply with my experience of having grown up in the intellectual cult known as the John Birch Society (JBS).

Conner’s family moved from the Chicago area to Mauston, Wisconsin. My father was president of the local JBS chapter in Madison, Wisconsin, at the same time, in the late 1960’s. At that time Madison was churning with anti-Vietnam War protests and civil rights activities. To say I grew up in a world of head-turning political extremes is an understatement. Given the very closed - even secretive — circle of JBS extremists, my guess is that my father and mother knew Claire’s parents.

Conner’s book was the first time I felt anyone else had any idea what it was like to grow up in the cauldron of far right wing paranoia, hate and rigid thought control that is the JBS. Certainly, over the years I have spoken about my experience with close friends but there quickly comes a point where the person I am speaking with is clearly not getting what I am describing; it’s too absurd. Truly, you have to have been there for years on in to really “get” what it was like to grow up in the JBS political cult. While personal stories, like Conner’s or my own, of growing up in such an environment can make for a good read there is a larger story here that affects everyone in America.

What we are talking about with the John Birch Society is the cult of right-wing authoritarianism; a rigid world view of absolutes”

Thanks, OhNoZombies! .. gonna give it a read.

Judge orders former Milwaukee voucher school operator to repay $300,000

A Milwaukee County judge has ordered the operator of a defunct private voucher school to repay about $300,000 in taxpayer money, after the state sued him for falsifying documents and forging his college diploma to get into the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program, court records show.

But Wisconsin may not be seeing that money anytime soon from Corey C. Reed Daniels, who operated the disastrous Milwaukee Institute of Academic Achievement in 2011-‘12 before reports of student endangerment prompted the Department of Public Instruction to terminate it from the choice program.

Process servers were unable to find Daniels, 41, to serve him with the summons and complaint in early 2013.

He has no lawyer on record and has not answered phone calls.

A DPI spokesperson said Thursday that Daniels is now on a disqualified persons list for operating voucher schools.

His institute, which enrolled between 100 and 180 students in kindergarten through eighth grade at 4920 N. Sherman Blvd., is not the first private voucher school to get shut down by the state. But it remains one of the most recent examples of how quickly an operator — given the right circumstances — could start a private school, enroll students and receive hundreds of thousands of public dollars before being cut off after allegations of impropriety.

The following shows how fucking stupid Scott Walker and every one of them GOP motherfuckers in the State are.

Continued:

Daniels also was able to join the taxpayer-funded voucher program because of a loophole created by Republican-led rule changes in the 2011 budget cycle.

That legislation allowed new voucher schools to get preapproved by accrediting entities outside of Wisconsin.

When the Journal Sentinel investigated in May 2012 how and why the Illinois-based Association for Christian Teachers and Schools approved Daniels’ school for preaccreditation, a consultant for the group said he did not give such approval.

When shown the approval document obtained by the Journal Sentinel, the consultant said it had been altered.

Republican-led law changes in the 2013-‘15 state budget again expanded the reach of voucher programs in Wisconsin.

Most students applying for state voucher program attend private schools

The majority of students who applied to receive a taxpayer-funded subsidy to attend a private, religious school in Wisconsin’s new statewide voucher program currently attend private schools, according to new data released Thursday.

The state Department of Public Instruction named the top 25 private schools — all religious — that received the most applications from voucher-eligible students this month. Only those schools will be able to educate students with the help of a state tuition voucher worth $6,442 per student annually in the first year of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program.

My surprise. Let me show it to you.

Growing up Birch Style…

Looks like a good read; the Tea Party movement is simply the resurrection of the JBS - perhaps not 100% pure Bircher, but about 95% I’d say. The Birchers were strongly isolationist, whereas the Tea Partiers seem a bit more divided on foreign adventurism; they seem to have picked up the “Onward Christian Soldiers” strain from the Religious Right. In any event, the Tea Party is for the most part JBS 2.0.

Yesterday the NYT, in their “Room For Debate” online forum, dumped a selection of short essays on creationism, written by mostly religious people who appear to be trying to smooth the way for the acceptance of evolution by creationists:

Should Creationism Be Controversial?

My take away is that the authors, which includes for Biologos participant Karl Giberson, are trying to sugar coat the existential impact that natural evolution has on the worldview of creationists. It’s all a bit squishy for me, as I think there are deep questions about the nature and fallibility of human belief that are far more damaging to religions than to the scientific-influenced modern world view.

105 freetoken  Fri, Aug 16, 2013 1:11:27am

And speaking of religion, one under appreciated facet of Western monotheism is how the Great Bronze Age collapse sets the back story for many of the stories passed down, e.g., the various old stories encapsulated in the late antiquity Jewish writings (i.e., the OT.)

The other day a paper was published which reviewed the Bronze Age Collapse in light of climatological data:

Environmental Roots of the Late Bronze Age Crisis

The Late Bronze Age world of the Eastern Mediterranean, a rich linkage of Aegean, Egyptian, Syro-Palestinian, and Hittite civilizations, collapsed famously 3200 years ago and has remained one of the mysteries of the ancient world since the event’s retrieval began in the late 19th century AD/CE. Iconic Egyptian bas-reliefs and graphic hieroglyphic and cuneiform texts portray the proximate cause of the collapse as the invasions of the “Peoples-of-the-Sea” at the Nile Delta, the Turkish coast, and down into the heartlands of Syria and Palestine where armies clashed, famine-ravaged cities abandoned, and countrysides depopulated. Here we report palaeoclimate data from Cyprus for the Late Bronze Age crisis, alongside a radiocarbon-based chronology integrating both archaeological and palaeoclimate proxies, which reveal the effects of abrupt climate change-driven famine and causal linkage with the Sea People invasions in Cyprus and Syria. The statistical analysis of proximate and ultimate features of the sequential collapse reveals the relationships of climate-driven famine, sea-borne-invasion, region-wide warfare, and politico-economic collapse, in whose wake new societies and new ideologies were created.

The “Exodus” and the Conquest of Canaan are stories set in this time of civilization collapse.

the “Civil Liberties Left” is not as you described—left. The ACLU itself routinely defends those who engage in hate speech. Many “Civil libertarians” want no restrictions whatsoever on “civil rights”, even criminal activity, such as Snowald engaged in. That isn’t the “left” that I’m a part of, because we understand our responsibilities to others as well as our own rights—there is a balance for most people.

Wait, the FISA court is distancing itself from the NSA? Greenwald considers that a bad thing? Wasn’t he demanding more accountability and an independent oversight of the NSA programs (when he wasn’t busy calling for an end to all elint gathering - an effective shutdown of the NSA altogether).

And I’m supposed to take Greenwald seriously? Really?

His arguments are becoming more incoherent by the day.

First, he and his lackeys claim the NSA is running amok over human and civil rights of everyone, especially Americans. That’s patently wrong since the NSA has no obligation for non-US Citizens, and has procedures in place to collect intel on US citizens via warrants, subpoenas and the FISA courts are empowered to govern that process.

Then, he and his lackeys claim FISA rubber stamps all the decisions and there’s no effective oversight that indicate the NSA is running roughshod over the rights of US citizens. This is debunked since the same reporting and released papers indicate that the NSA is overseen by the FISA courts that have rejected warrants and required modifications on many others. That few were rejected outright is an indication that the parties to the warrants understand how to use the process - not abuse it outright. The number of warrants sought and the scope of those warrants shows that the NSA is trying to target resources narrowly, and doesn’t want to read your facebook or twitter posts about how your angry cat is better than the grumpy cat meme.

And the cherry on top is that Greenwald’s prior hero (to him at least), Bradley Manning repudiates Greenwald (and the rest of the fawning sychopants) in admitting that Manning’s release of massive troves of classified documents harmed US national security and put lives in jeopardy. The nutty fringe thinks this is the result of years of imprisonment or that it will be a factor in his sentencing, but that ignores that he’s already going to spend the rest of his life breaking big rocks into small ones at Fort Leavenworth or a similar facility. He’s admitting he didn’t think his actions through fully, and ignored the seriousness of what he intended - the release of documents through Wikileaks was highly damaging.

Greenwald’s desperately busy trying to keep the Snowden story alive, but all while claiming it’s not about Snowden but the NSA. Yet for every article he and The Guardian or WaPo have published with new details and shocking headlines, the fine print (the part most people gloss over and don’t read, or skim over) shows a completely different picture. It shows an agency that is tightly focused on going after and uncovering threats to the US, and that doesn’t want to waste resources on wild goose chases because reading through billions of emails a day isn’t effective - but narrowing the field to where the bad guys operate and communicate is.

Others have indicates that to find the needle in the haystack, you need to first have a haystack. Well, the NSA needs data to make the haystack, but they also want a haystack that’s relevant to what they want to search for. If they throw billions of extra documents (data snippets) into the search, it slows everything down.

Congressional oversight and better search algorithms combined with a robust FISA process can and should be part of the discussion, but Greenwald’s a bomb thrower who wants to see the existing system demolished with no regard to how it affects US national security.

3,000 mistakes, in the processing of how many data points? Context is always an important item that gets left out of this discussion.

3,000 mistakes when applied to over 300 million people living in the US?

3,000 mistakes when applied to how many billions of data points?

3,000 mistakes compared to how many warrants?

If it’s to the population or data points, then this is indeed a very low error rate, and should be applauded.

If it’s to the latter (comparing the violations to the number of warrants issued), then there is some cause for concern - which is again mitigated by the former.

Is there a problem here? Perhaps. But it’s not nearly as widespread or as dangerous as Greenwald indicates.

Multiple motorists snap photos of teens riding trailer, no one calls police

The state police in Massachusetts are scolding the people of that state for getting their priorities wrong. Lots of people took and posted pictures of two teens riding on the back of a tractor-trailer outside of Boston. What they failed to do was use the phones that we presume they took those photos with and actually call the police.

The Massachusetts State Police posted one version of the photo on their Facebook page, and posted a statement full of exasperation with the general public.

“We would like to remind the public how unsafe and illegal this is. This photograph and other similar photographs are circulating regarding this incident. The Massachusetts State Police did not receive any phone calls regarding this incident as it was occurring, yet several drivers took photographs of it.”

Priorities, people. Seriously.

There are more Chris Christies out there than it seems, but they’re scared into silence by the barking loons at their backs.

Chris Christie is a shithead with a raft of terrible policies. He is noticeable because once in awhile he does something ethically sound, like defending a Muslim judge, or doesn’t fight against Obama on something, usually when Christie stands to benefit from it.

His actual policies have been standard idiotic GOP anti-union, anti-teacher, anti-gay fare.

Does Facebook lead to unhappiness?

Facebook could be spreading unhappiness through society as well as keeping people connected, research has shown.

The number one social networking site is strongly associated with declines in well-being, psychologists claim.

Scientists found the more time people spent on Facebook over a two-week period, the worse they subsequently felt.

In contrast, talking to friends on the phone or meeting them in person led to greater levels of happiness.

“On the surface, Facebook provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling the basic human need for social connection,” said Study leader Ethan Kross, from the University of Michigan.

“But rather than enhance well-being, we found that Facebook use predicts the opposite result — it undermines it.”

I say it’s all about who you have on your friends list and the kinds of stuff the post.

re: #183 Eclectic Cyborg

I think that it fools us into thinking we’re socializing, but there’s a lot of reasons why it doesn’t replace real socialization.

i’d joined Somethingawful awhile ago, at first for the tech stuff, but then got sucked into random threads. I found myself getting upset, angry, and most of all just feeling a disconnect. I think that some place like LGF is about the perfect size, with a small community where you actually know a bit about other people there.

If you’re able to constrain Facebook to a very limited set of cool friends, I could see it being satisfying, but I think that if you don’t actually see those friends in real life, it could get weird.

I dunno. It needs more study, but on the face of it I have no problem believing online socialization makes us think we’re socializing while failing to actually kick off the same neurological response as actual in-person socialization.

Derp is strong with that one.

All politicians have an agenda. It’s what they do. Every politician is looking to further that agenda by attending events, visiting locations out of the office, inviting people to their offices, etc.

Presidents do this all the time. All presidents do, and it’s more sophisticated today than ever before because the technology to convey those visits is more sophisticated. Image is everything (which is why it’s easier to find photos of President Obama than those of say Reagan - though there’s plenty out there too).

And it’s not just presidents. Congress members and state legislators and governors do this as well.

It’s possible that those photos do represent how people are jumping off what appears to be a freeway ramp 20+ feet above street level to avoid gunfire.

Or something else could be going on.

After all, claims that a police vehicle was pushed off a ramp (from the vantage point of the photos, that may have appeared to be the case, but a later video emerged showing that the police crewed backed up and off the ramp - accidentally from the looks of it.

The video shows a police vehicle approaching a crowd of people and vehicles - colliding with a bus, and then backing up, and doing so quickly, and then ending up careening off the ramp to the ground below.

Other outlets, which have agendas that may not be easily or clearly identified. Al Jazeera, which had its own agenda (courtesy of Qatari ownership through 2011).

Then, there are the stringers who provide reports to wire services, including Reuters, AFP, AP, UPI, etc. Some are objective and others have no qualms about pushing their own agenda or ignoring company guidelines.

Then, there’s the twitterverse (which includes freelancers and others who post stuff online with no care about attribution, veracity of what’s claimed, etc.) that is a free-for-all and where anyone can post anything, and some of it may even be true.

As a Whovian, let me explain me explain shipping. Jamefirecat has touched on this earlier, but I will give the wiki definition.

Shipping, derived from the word relationship, is the belief that two characters, fictional or non-fictional, would be interesting or believable (or are, or will be, or should be) in a romantic relationship. It is considered a general term for fans’ emotional involvement with the ongoing development of romance in a work of fiction. Though technically applicable to any such involvement, it refers chiefly to various related social dynamics observable on the Internet, and is seldom used outside of that context.

What get bizarre in this case is the that a bunch of teeny-bopping fangirls are doing the same for 1D. Specfically between Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.

Right now, a bunch of hysterical tweens are saying some of the kids who were saying this on the documentary have committed suicide. News shows no such reports yet.

The livecam:

NY-25 at 59th St Bridge (fm Citicorp Bldg)
(Traffic closest to camera is on NY-25 East)
Provided by TrafficLand/Total Traffic Network

shows the car fire pretty well involved at the moment.

Happens occasionally, but this is probably going to clear out quicker than yesterday’s mess at the GWB. There, it was a tractor trailer with a major fuel spill caused by one of the finger joints on the bridge being messed up. That led to a shutdown of the lower deck to clear the spilled fuel. Minutes after that initial incident, there was a multicar accident in the other direction. All told it took several hours for traffic to ease to normal conditions in both directions, but it was a disaster for the evening commute between NY and NJ since traffic tried to circumvent to the Lincoln or Holland tunnel, and there were accidents on approaches to both, leading to even more delays.

Glad I took mass transit home (and that was thankfully normal).

Justin Bieber is an immature little punk, but there is still time for him to grow and mature. “Young Punk” can be fixed, although the fixing in many cases involves drill instructors.

Harry Styles, by contrast, seems to enjoy getting girls to fall for him, pushing their buttons, and then driving them away. He enjoys hurting people which is the sign of a sadist. And “Sadistic Personality” is usually something that can’t be fixed, and cannot be fully neutralized save through supermax-level solitary confinement.

Taylor Swift, having a weakness of falling love, ended in trouble with Styles. Shockingly, she is a bit embittered by falling in love with a Pick-Up-Artist. But not her fault. She has a weakness, and Styles there exploited it.

One time, I do recall using sarcasm on a visitor at the Sufi Center in Berlin, who was spouting off some anti-Semitic twaddle; I looked back at him and said, in my best sarcastic voice, “Yeah, that’s it. It’s the Jooooooooz, man!”

The Sufis who understood English - which was most of them - burst into laughter and the dimwit left in a huff.

The only hope as far as electoral politics… presently, is the libertarian section of the Republican party,” said Assange, in response to a question about the recent swell of college-aged and youth-based support for libertarianism.

“The libertarian aspect of the Republican Party is presently the only useful political voice really in the U.S. Congress,” said Assange. “[I] am a big admirer of Ron Paul and Rand Paul for their very principled positions in the U.S. Congress on a number of issues.”

So, I was out walking along Church St in Lower Manhattan, wanting to get some photos of the old American Stock Exchange, which is behind the cemetery for Trinity Church, and a few blocks south of the WTC complex. As I’m walking back, I, along with a bunch of people, notice smoke coming from the basement of a building on Cedar, which is a block away from the WTC memorial entrance. Turns out there was some kind of smoke condition/fire in the basement of the chinese restaurant that I sometimes frequent.

That was before the NYPD secured the scene and pushed everyone off the narrow block so the FDNY could get better access.

I’ll have those Amex photos up soon. Developers are going to turn the Art Deco masterpiece into a hotel. It’s been vacant for years as the AMEX moved its trading floor down to 11 Wall Street (AMEX now owned by the NYSE-Euronext)

Under preclearance, the feds would have blocked the implementation of the law until it was approved judicially. Now, the laws can be enacted, but people/groups can sue to block under the remaining provisions of the VRA. It’s quite likely that these kinds of restrictions will be knocked down - but that might not happen until after upcoming elections.

These two police officers, one in plain clothes, are taking aim at Morsi supporters in the Zamalek neighbourhood of Cairo, according to the AP agency which supplied the photo: Image: _69329063_018983922-1.jpg

Contrary to that assessment, it appears that the cop has his weapon pointed at the guy in civilian clothes, and why would he do that to another cop?

It is not just the security forces who are armed. This image, also supplied by AP, reportedly shows a Morsi supporter with a pistol in Ramses Square in Cairo: Image: _69329065_018984154-1.jpg

At this point it’s anyone’s guess if you’re depending on the AP—why, it could be a “plainclothes” cop, couldn’t it?

341 Justanotherhuman  Fri, Aug 16, 2013 10:08:35am

And this, from the BBC, also:

1657: Ahmed Maher BBC Arabic, Alexandria

tells BBC World: There are two different views from the Corniche, the vast coast road lined with military tanks. On the beach there are families enjoying themselves, who say they are fed up of politics and life must go on, while to the east there is a large protest rally by the Muslim Brotherhood.
