Ron Paul, John Birch Society President to Speak at Anti-Semitic Conference

The guy Julian Assange thinks is America’s “only hope” will address a radical antisemitic group
Wingnuts • Views: 26,564

Today we have news that Julian Assange’s idol, Ron Paul, will be joining the president of the John Birch Society to address one of the most virulent antisemitic groups in North America: Ron Paul, Birch President to Speak at Anti-Semitic Conference.

Beyond the obvious, what do a far-right Italian politician, the president of the John Birch Society and former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul have in common?

In early September, the men are all scheduled to speak - along with a lengthy list of archconservative clergy, lawyers and academics - at a conference in Canada sponsored by the Fatima Center, part of the “radical traditionalist Catholic” movement, perhaps the single largest group of hard-core anti-Semites in North America.

Paul, the former Texas congressman and Republican presidential candidate, is the keynote speaker of the weeklong conference slated for Sept. 8-13 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. A physician before entering politics, Paul got into considerable hot water in 2008 when The New Republic published “Angry White Man,” an article about the contents of newsletters he published. What the newsletters revealed, the magazine reported, “are decades worth of obsession with conspiracies, sympathy for the right-wing militia movement, and deeply held bigotry against blacks, Jews and gays.” Paul denied writing the newsletters that bore his name.

The conference is titled, “Fatima: The Path to Peace” and “is a call,” according to a Fatima Center press release, “to a return to sanity in the government of the world and the Church, for the two cannot be separated.”

Also scheduled to speak is Roberto Fiore, an Italian politician, who, when he won a seat to the European Parliament in 2008, was described by a fellow member of the body as “absolutely the most extreme person who has ever served in the European Parliament.”

Julian Assange isn’t the only high profile extreme libertarian to admire Ron Paul; here’s a video of Ron Paul’s recent interview with our old pal Glenn Greenwald:

Said it before: If Ron Paul wasn’t pro-pot, he’d have maybe a quarter of the followers he has now.

The fact that people lionize him for that, while overlooking this guy’s rather rancid racist past, speaks volumes about their inability to deal with facts.

Crazy Uncle Liberty and his little boy both coast on the same thing, which is that they can sell the sizzle of libertarianism while knowing there’s no steak. The “potential” and the “principle” of libertarianism while knowing that they have neither.

A couple years ago, I was really excited to hear from an old friend. Then, within the first 5 minutes, “Yeah, so I’m really into politics now. Ron Paul has really opened my eyes.”

I haven’t spoken to him since.

Once the newsletter shit hit the fan, I figured I made the right choice.

Paul is the guy who has boasted time and time again about how he’s against “Big Government spending” and “not taking handouts,” while he was shoveling millions in federal funds and grants to Texas annually.

I’ve actually seen conservatives defend this as “Well, the money is there, they’d be fools not to take it.” When it’s pointed out what a steaming lump of hypocrisy it is to scream “EBIL GUBMINT”, and then take the money, the conservative will simply repeat the previous.

Some RW leader-type is sooner or later going to talk about going after the banks, and when that happens, the floodgates of RW anti-semitism will open wide.

The banks do need to be brought to heel, but RW populism from this crowd of losers would be a cure much worse than the disease.

He claims. The big berrettas say otherwise. Mostly because of this LSD trip:

Gruner held that John Paul II was held by the consent of his predecessor, Pope John XXIII, to an alleged Vatican/Moscow concordat, which had been signed between His Holiness and then-Premier Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union. This was primarily because the Vatican’s secretary of state, Cardinal Agostino Casaroli, also supported this alleged concordat. Throughout the 1980s, the Fatima Crusader made further frequent allegations that the Vatican had been infiltrated and subverted, and that the Soviet Union was engaging in deliberate deception when it depicted Mikhail Gorbachev and perestroika as initiators of internal communist reform after the Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s. In 1988, he urged a letter writing campaign against arms control talks.

I was thinking in terms of the raider style of warfare common later in Ireland, Wales and north of the Wall that could have made for an irregular nightmare unless the Roman’s went all Carthage on them. But remembering what happened across the Rhine when they lost three eagles, I’m not sure they would have.

Just speculation on my part. I really can’t fully comprehend the wingnut mentality nor that kind of apocalyptic fervor.

Erdogan angers U.S., Israel, Egypt with Mursi defense

Erdogan, who has become one of the fiercest critics of the Egyptian army’s removal of Mohamed Mursi, told members of his Islamist-rooted AK Party that he had proof that Israel was involved in last month’s ouster, which has been followed by a bloody crackdown on the elected president’s Muslim Brotherhood.

“What do they say in Egypt? Democracy is not the ballot box. What is behind it? Israel. We have in our hands documentation,” Erdogan said in comments broadcast by TRT state television.

I’ve always thought it was somewhat unfortunate that after the Cold War came to an end, a lot of the broadcast networks really cut back on their foreign offices. Growing up as I did in the 70s and 80s, I remember when the Big Three networks’ world news programs came on, it was world news. Granted, it invariably led off with US news first, unless it was something truly earth-shattering.

I remember having the great fortune of having the day off on the day the Berlin Wall came down, and NBC’s Tom Brokaw coming on in the middle of the day (Pacific Time) to say that something was cooking in Berlin; not long after that, he got the scoop of the latter half of the 20th century simply because he had the great fortune to be in West Berlin covering another story.

Should I wear Camo as a fashion statement? What bugs me is that I can’t walk into Banks or Bars here..Like what is the deal here?
So I snapped a pic with my phone going into my Doctor’s office the other day…What is he afraid of? LOL I never thought I’d see a sign like this..Well unless I lived in the age of Wild West..Oh..Those were the days.

The Texas of Canada. Full of hard nosed blue collar conservatives that are rich in oil. The only province, territory, or state in North America that is so economically powerful it could be its own nation (and should be, just to be dicks to Quebec).

The number one past time of Albertans is working, when they aren’t working they are usually getting drunk. This is due to there being absolutely nothing else to do in Alberta. Other provinces hate Alberta for its wealth and general arrogant attitude, but often sympathize with them afterwards when they realized what a mundane place it is to live in.

Your neighbor with the 89 guns is right in the sweet spot for US gun marketing.

The trend for US gun ownership (% of households with 1+ guns) has been going down for decades To keep the industry alive, stoking the fears of gun nuts that will heavily arm themselves in response is essential.

That’s the main reason the NRA et al. traffic in paranoid fantasy so much.

That’s what I was thinking too. There’s a big investment in keeping gun owners scared of their government and it leads to a lot of trouble and it’s why corporate abuse bothers me more than government abuse because the government isn’t marketing fear the way the gun companies and their lobby groups do.

The gun makers in particular would stand to profit as the US descends into anarchy and lawlessness, thereby increasing demand for weapons.

It’ll be interesting to see how al JAz plays with American audiences. I’ve been watching more cable news these days and international coverage on American cable news is very weak, on MSNBC it’s almost nonexistent. I don’t think American audiences will go for too much international news and progressives are far more interested in what some idiot in Texas says that what’s going on in the world. I don’t think Al Jazz’s bias will even be noticed by Western audiences who probably aren’t well enough informed to spot it. Anyone interested in international news is probably already watching BBC already anyways.

Had you walked 10 minutes away from the farm lights you would have seen a sky packed full of stars. We go camping outside the city just so we can see that.

I’ve seen that, but in Washington State out in the Columbia River Gorge back in the 1990s. I also remember a moment I wished I’d had a video recorder. It was sunrise one June morning, and the sun came through the fog in a way that created the illusion that the sun had dropped from the fog bank.

Oh, and what was playing on the cassette player when this occurred?

This. Youtube Video

Wiki doesn’t say affirmatively one way or the other but I assume it’s because her parents were both Canadian citizens where as Ted’s mother was a U.S citizen. Honestly, I know this is a radical position but I’m actually for given anyone the right who’s become naturalized a chance to run. Provided they’ve been a citizen for such and such period i.e. with the Senate and other hodies of political power. I’m also old enough to remember when the GOP wanted to remove that so they could run Ahnold for president. Hell I even remember Novak being receptive to the idea- Novak!

I don’t know the citizenship situation of both your grandchildren’s parents. I’d assume they’d be able to since your children are all US citizens. It’s all confusing to me. IIRC when he was a senator, Obama proposed simpifying the law which the proto-birthers I knew claimed he was doing it to draw away attention from his own birth in Kenya. But as I said, I’m for anyone who becomes a U.S citizen being able to run. We let them run for Senate. Why not president? There’s been foreign born people in this country from Albert Gallatin to your mentioned Jennifer Granholm who would make fine leaders for this coutnry.

They never get that fixed with him did they? You know in a way I felt a little bad for Mitt. I’ve heard he’s actually warm with those he’s close with-family and friends but he can’t do it with strangers. The problem I have with him though is he didn’t even try to empathize with the common needs of the average American. You can be rich see FDR and JFK can be able to empathize with the downtrodden but Mitt wanted us to feel bad for him- remember him claiming he was unemployed too. Didn’t help that he selected Ayn Rand’s biggest Congressional fanboy either.

Mitt is part of the entitled group known as “Sociopaths are Us”. So is Ann “It’s Our Turn Now” Romney. That is his real “base”.

I wouldn’t give you a wooden nickel for any of them.

Okay, seriously? Do these people really believe that the NSA has a quantum computer it’s hiding or something?

Well, yeah if they believe that a PC motherboard and graphics card came out of a Macbook Pro, they can believe the NSA is capable of reading 75% of Teh Hole Internets.

Srsly WTF.

But consider how much of Teh Internets is Teh Pr0n and Teh Spam and how much Seekrits u can fit in that.

Oh no kidding. I just I guess being on the autistic spectrum curiously do feel some empathy for the guy. Don’t get me wrong. I think he was a shitty candidate who didn’t want to understand the issues important to the average American and think he’s a relentless panderer but I do feel some empathy for anyone who has a hard time communicating their true feelings with people. Now that said if Mitt felt so uncomfortable, he should have dropped his run for the presidency which I think he saw and still sees as his birthright.

I always though Cruz could fit into a Ed Wood movie somewhere. Kind of like Criswell or something.

I kind of am enjoying the irony of it. I’ll defend Cruz’s right to run as an American citizen but I am going to laugh at those “who were just asking questions” get pissy about the actually born in a foreign land Cruz simply because he’s their guy.

If all it takes to win over the birthers is to say “I renounce my citizenship,” then Obama should just call a press conference tomorrow and say “I renounce my Kenyan citizenship.”

He could release a video of his birth and they still wouldn’t believe it because the conspiracy is all they have. It’s not so much to disagree with him, Barack Hussein Obama has to be illegitimate.

What VB said—the baby will be a US citizen.

There’s a pretty good paper from 2009 over at the American Constitution Society called, Birthright Citizenship: A Constitutional Guarantee (PDF). It’s 13 pages long, full of interesting info, and assertions are cited in the footnotes.

Addendum: For anyone who’s interested, this article form three summers ago over at The Christian Science Monitor explains pretty clearly how the wingnuts are trying to circumvent the 14th Amendment WRT immigrants.

Okay, one more:

ACS Debate : Birthright Citizenship with Peter Schuck and Akhil Amar

[…] In the following debate, hosted by the American Constitution Society of Yale Law School and held on September 22, 2010, Professors Amar and Schuck discuss the history, the purpose, and ultimately the application of the 14th Amendment and birthright citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants.

Okay, I’m done now. G’nite, everyone.

All righty then.

If Ted Cruz can run for President, why can’t BABUSHKA’S GRANDKIDS?

Please! Please, Babushka’s grandkids. You’ll know which ones are up for the primaries when they can handle their own crowd well. Also, they all have an American parent.
