Maj. Nidal Hasan Guilty of 45 Counts of Murder

Mass murderer
US News • Views: 19,471

Maj. Nidal Hasan has been convicted of 45 charges of murder and attempted murder, and faces a likely death sentence.

FT. HOOD, Texas — A military jury on Friday convicted Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan on 45 charges of premeditated and attempted premeditated murder in connection with the shooting rampage at this central Texas Army post four years ago, the deadliest attack on a domestic U.S. military base.

He now faces a possible death sentence. The verdict was read by the jury president, or foreman, at 12:35 p.m., after six hours of deliberation.

I’m not sure how the Muslim Brotherhood-infiltrated Obama administration could have allowed this to happen; obviously someone screwed up.

(Do I need a sarcasm tag?)

A friend of mine tried to claim what Hassan did was an act of terrorism. Glad to see the Military saw it for what it was, Murder.

No surprise there. Too bad a guilty verdict doesn’t have the power to bring the victims back to life. *sigh*

I think it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to be found guilty. After all, he admitted to the killings, but claimed them justified. That defense was disallowed, and he presented no evidence to counter the admission of shooting those present at the Fort Hood site.

The only question is whether he will be given the death penalty or whether he’ll be sentenced to life without parole. I’m thinking it will be the latter, primarily to deny him the claim of martyrdom.

None of this brings back any of his victims, and it’s poor consolation to them.

OT: They had to recast Batman because Bale has publicly stated he’s done with the role.

Joseph Gordon Levitt was established as Robin, not Batman. Now if you want to go according to the comics it is true that Dick Grayson (Robin) DID actually assume the role of Batman for awhile so I suppose mentioning him as a potential casting choice does make sense.

It’s possible Levitt was approached and didn’t want it.

I’d rather throw him in a hole at Florence, personally. He doesn’t need attention, and if punishment is your motivation I think supermax sounds quite considerably worse than death.

Well I cant blame the tweeter for the “cut off his pay and dishonorable discharge” sentiment.

The other is pure blood lust

Having said that, his crimes certainly do warrant the death penalty if any crime does. I wouldn’t care much either way…if he gets life with no parole or the death penalty. I would defer to the victims and their families.

Sad thing is, that scumbag who murdered a bunch of Afghanis a year or 2 back? No Death Penalty.

He committed a War Crime, and needs to be made an example of. Both of these Murderous scum need the needle. No hope of rehabilitation, the crimes were enormous.

But only one of them will be put to death. Both need to be.

Morse displayed photos of a young girl who was executed as she screamed and cried, as well as surveillance video of Bales returning to the base with “the methodical, confident gait of a man who’s accomplished his mission.”

Morse said Bales should be sentenced to life without parole.

And, on an ice cold budgetary level, how much will he cost the US and the military in food and hospital care over the rest of his natural life?

I don’t want the Death Penalty to be common. However, there are cases where the crime is so depraved and atrocious that it is the only reasonable option.

That goes for both Bales and Hasan.

The death penalty doesn’t do shit. All it does is make people, most of whom have no connection to the case, somehow feel better.

If the death penalty were such a magic deterrent, the US murder rate would have plummeted decades ago.

Which is why tossing him into a Supermax cell and tossing the key is a better option. Deny him martyrdom and deny him a spotlight. Put him in a small room alone for the rest of his life and forget he exists.

It’s never ‘reasonable’. At it’s ‘best’, it’s saying the person is so dangerous they need to die. At worst, what it usually is, is a desire for vengeance, which is just dumb as hell and hurts victims as well.

Death penalty isn’t something you can have for just “No, we really really really really know this guy is guilty and deserves it and all”. That’s not a legal standard. It always gets abused. We know this.

re: #20 Absalom, Absalom, Obdicut

I’m no death penalty fan. But I would not lift a finger in objection in this case. It’s the UCMJ, (where the military’s needs can make harsher than criminal law penalties appropriate) we have 13 dead, and I’d hate to see our sentencing be impacted by how our devout enemies can play propaganda games. Short of immediate release, he will be a propaganda playable item.

AFAIK the propaganda and claims by the pro liars who run agitprop for Al Qaeda can pound sand. Every shot fired, every combat death is grist for that mill.

27 CuriousLurker  Fri, Aug 23, 2013 11:15:29am

In this case I’d rather see him NOT get the death penalty as it’s something he’d look forward to because he’d see himself as a jihadist martyr who’d be headed straight for heaven. Also, as others have mentioned, it’ll only turn him into an icon (for the nutcases). He’s already paralyzed, so I would think spending the remaining 30-40 years of his life wheelchair-bound in a maximum security cell would be exactly what he doesn’t want—it lacks the “glamor” of martyrdom.

Military death row: More than 50 years and no executions

(CNN) — Ronald Gray raped and battered at least seven women. He killed four, and left the others for dead — the bodies dumped around Fort Bragg and the neighboring city of Fayetteville, North Carolina, between 1986 and 1987.

He was caught and, just as in the civilian system, he was tried.
He was found guilty by a jury of his peers, just as in the civilian system.
And a death sentence was passed, just as would have been possible in a civilian court for such a heinous crime.

But when it comes to staying alive, history is on Gray’s side. The U.S. military has not executed one of its own since 1961.

The military rarely sentences it’s own to death; if and when, it’s the exception, not the rule, even for pretty heinous offenses. In a civilian court, Bales would’ve been sentenced to death by a civilian jury (provided that option exists in the particular state) if he’d perpetrated that massacre in, let’s say, Austin, TX or Miami, FL.

I’m really not interested in arguing which is more useful, but martyrdom is a real thing and a real concept and people actually do care more about someone being dead than imprisoned. That’s why ‘martyr’ isn’t applied by Islamic radicals to those who are in prison.

Killing him:

A) Isn’t going to happen
B) If it did happen, would not happen for a long, long time, unless he wants to be martyred and goes along with it, in which case why are you giving him what he wants?

48 NJDhockeyfan  Fri, Aug 23, 2013 11:28:56am

Because it can be used to inspire1 others to commit similar acts here to achieve “martyrdom”. I don’t think most non-Muslims can really get inside the head of a Muslim extremist the way a Muslim can.

You haven’t truly experienced its power until you’ve seen a 20-something convert’s eyes go all soft & glowing as he talks about wanting to be a martyr and see angels. You don’t have to just witness it, you have to understand the sincere belief behind it and how easy it is to twist that belief and manipulate someone.

I hope not. A major part of the issue is that the hogs (like deer) are moving into suburban environments since those are more convenient food supplies. A bunch of trigger-happy hunters with houses all around? I’ll pass.

And note that it’s been a rural issue for quite a while, but not is getting more headlines now that it is hitting places with higher population densities.

I’m not talking about understanding the desire to kill innocent people, I’m talking about understanding the concept of martyrdom in Islam in a classical, mainstream sense (as in most religions & cultures, it’s something essentially noble like soldiers fighting & dying for their country/freedom, etc.) and how easily it can be twisted into something hateful, violent, and unjust.

It doesn’t seem to take much of a leap for you yourself to come up with some violent shit that sounds pretty insane to the rest of us. I’m just sayin’…

Filner has signed a resignation letter, and the negotiated deal goes before the city council in about an hour. The whole deal could collapse if the City Council vetoes the deal, which it might if some of Filner’s earlier demands are still present in the deal.

I do want to note the obtuseness of the County Clerk:

On Thursday, Action 7 News talked to Salazar about why she was not issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.

“There are processes in our society, so we have to follow them,” said Salazar.

She said the only thing her office will follow is a clear, undisputed change in the law.

When the law is changed, we will issue same-sex marriage licenses,” she said.

If I am not mistaken, the law on marriage in New Mexico is gender-neutral. Which means there should not even be a problem.

An odd case of hotfoot at JFK. Man arrested for trying to smuggle uranium out of the US to Iran. In his shoes (packed in his luggage).

A man was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport on Wednesday with raw uranium inside the soles of shoes carried in his luggage, and officials believe he was planning to ship the radioactive element to Iran.

According to a federal complaint obtained by the Smoking Gun, Patrick Campbell, a 33-year-old native of Sierra Leone, has been under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for the past 15 months, and allegedly agreed to sell undercover agents 1000 tons of yellowcake uranium for shipment to Iran.

Campbell had reportedly flown from Paris to New York, and was stopped at JFK; he was supposed to catch a connecting flight to Miami, where agents planned to meet up with him. The complaint notes that Campbell was found with raw uranium ore in the soles of two pairs of shoes, in addition to a thumb drive containing a contract for the sale and delivery of more uranium.

“What I’m telling folks, and what I want them to understand, is that we are the subject of a lawsuit right now on this matter,” Oliver said.

In March, two lesbian couples filed suit against Toulouse after she refused to issue them marriage licenses. Wednesday afternoon, a third couple, joined the lawsuit.

Oliver said she’s limited within the confines of the law.

“I am personally in favor of gay marriage,” she said. “I look forward to the day that we can issue marriage licenses to same sex couples in Bernalillo County.”

Oliver said she’s encouraged to hear that Attorney General Gary King doesn’t plan to stop what’s going on in Las Cruces, and hopes that’s a sign a resolution will happen soon.

“I know that the couples want that, I certainly want that, it appears that’s what the AG’s office wants as well, and so hopefully that’s what will take place,” she said.

IN COMPLETELY UNFORSEEABLE COINCIDENCE, ANTI-VACCINE CHURCH HIT BY MEASLES OUTBREAK

God works in mysterious ways, doesn’t He? Far more mysterious ways than the measles virus does, at least — we know a hell of a lot about the virus, like how to inoculate people against it. But God, He’s mysterious, and one of His earthly servants, Kenneth Copeland, is not a fan of vaccines, instead urging his flock to “teach our children to eat right” as part of “God’s health and wellness plan.” (And yes, in that video, Copeland promotes the completely discredited notion that vaccines cause autism.)

Big surprise: Copeland’s church is at the center of a measles outbreak that has infected at least 10 people in Tarrant County, Texas. As another famous Texan said, oops.

SANTA FE COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Santa Fe - August 23, 2013

County Clerk Geraldine Salazar Announces That Today at 2:00 p.m. She Will Begin Issuing Marriage Licenses to Same-Sex Applicants.

County Clerk Geraldine Salazar announces that today at 2:00 p.m. she will begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex applicants, thus complying with an alternative writ of mandamus issued by Judge Sarah Singleton. The Clerk stated: “I am a fervent supporter of same-sex marriage in New Mexico and have always believed that the restrictive and antiquated statutes in our State must fall to principles of equal protection embodied in our Constitution. I have been frustrated recently wanting to issue licenses but being confronted with long standing statutes that do not permit it. Now that Judge Singleton has ordered me to issue a license to Messrs. Hanna and Hudson on constitutional grounds, I intend to do so and to issue a license to any same-sex couple who desires one and are otherwise qualified. By complying with the Judge’ s order we will be issuing licenses legally and will not continue to use limited county resources on further litigation.”

Yosemite will still be there, but getting to it may be a trifle difficult. The fires have shut down Route 120 into the Park on a couple occasions already, and the location of the fire makes it tough to get at.

Highway 120 temporarily closed west of Yosemite National Park
The Hetch Hetchy Road and Highway 120 from near Groveland to Big Oak Flat Entrance Station are temporarily closed due to a wildfire. Entrances to Yosemite via Highways 41, 140, and 120 from the east (Tioga Pass) are open. More »

But those hoping to catch awesome views may get disappointed because of the haze/smoke and reduced visibility.

Robertson: Obama Inciting ‘Black-On-White Violence’

Pat Robertson today, while discussing the shooting of an Australian baseball player in Oklahoma by three teenagers, two of them black and one white, accused President Obama of inciting anti-white violence. The 700 Club host said, “We are having a tremendous amount of this black-on-white violence and I have a feeling that instead of bringing racial harmony, having an African-American president has exacerbated the problem.”

“He seems to be wanting to bring division among people instead of bringing them together; he is one of the most divisive leaders this country has ever had,” Robertson continued. “It just seems he wants to rub the edges raw every chance he gets.” Robertson argued that Obama is trying to divide people by race and class: “There’s always something there to stir up controversy.”

it went on to make the connection that those who really do not understand what it means to be a true patriot and love one’s country are the ones who cling to the trappings of nationalsm and pseudopatriotism and throw fits over people who fail to wear a flag lapel, etc…

The NSA apparently had rules pertaining to cell phone data collection in 1983. The cell phone first became commercially available in 1983.

That sounds like incredibly responsible government, really.

I think it was a lame attempt at sarcasm. But also misses the fact that the privilege has further divisions even after the racial divide. The commenter did not fall within the right groups farther up the chain to get the benefits.

Which has been part and parcel of the whole use of “race war” as a distraction from “class war”. The upper tier plays off parts of the lower tier against each other while they skim the cream off the top. (Or to flog the other analogy take 10 cookies of the dozen and then tell the two workers that the other worker greedily wants *their* cookie for himself.)

174 lawhawk  Fri, Aug 23, 2013 1:33:01pm

Wait a second. They’re now complaining that some of the provisions weren’t updated in 30 years. I’m guessing that they’re again referring to the Reagan-era Executive Order 12333, which hasn’t been superseded, even though the needs of the intelligence community have changed since it was promulgated.

A regular and periodic review of the intel law is a good idea, but claiming that it’s 30 years old and therefore out of date or irrelevant ignores that the underlying legal protections are still enforceable. The EO 12333 prohibits certain kinds of intel ops on US citizens. The Constitution still requires warrants and subpoenas, and the FISC still has to weigh in on granting warrants for certain kinds of searches.

Oh, and the letter that the Board sent to AG Holder and DNI Clapper? It’s referring to EO 12333 as authority. They’re writing that the guidelines (section 2.3) have not been comprehensively updated since promulgation and that changes in technology would dictate a review.

do not recall the article or where it was published, but the jist of it was that those who do not understand what it really means to be a man are the ones who cling to the established external symbols that society associates with “manhood” and throw a fit when someone or something varies from them.

it went on to make the connection that those who really do not understand what it means to be a true patriot and love one’s country are the ones who cling to the trappings of nationalsm and pseudopatriotism and throw fits over people who fail to wear a flag lapel, etc…

If you ever recall the source, I’d appreciate if you’d let me know. It sounds like an interesting article.

That is what the British did between the Ulster Protestants and the Irish Catholics as well: itish Protestants had wages about two-thirds of those in England, the Irish Catholics about half, and the Ulstermen were told that the Irish were coming to take things away from them by wanting more.

Levitt was too young.

I saw a post or interview somewhere where it was said that the key for casting Batman (or Superman) is that shouldn’t be casting the hero-mode — you should be casting for how they will look or act as Bruce Wayne (Clark Kent).

Once they’re in the suit it’s often shots of stunt doubles and standard action genre stuff. How do they come across on the screen when acting as a human? (Or dysfunctional human in Wayne’s case.) Part of the key of the character is that you sympathize with the human and his internal conflicts, otherwise it’s simply a psychotic vigilante with a bunch of neat devices. Just watch “The Punisher” instead. :p

I know that you clarify this in your opening paragraph – in big bold blue link letters no less – but I find it a bit amusing to have you disclaiming the Guardian for misleading headlines and then posting that Nidal was found guilty of 45 counts of murder, when it was 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. Like I said, you do clear it up very quickly, but it just made me laugh a little. :D
