Jazz-fusion band “The Aristocrats” (Marco Minnemann - drums, Guthrie Govan - guitar, and Bryan Beller - bass) gave three mesmerising concerts in Vladivostok and Nakhodka in December 2012. Their visit was supported by the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok, Primorye Regional Philharmonic Hall, music clubs Shiber and Cat’N Clover. The project took place under the auspices of the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission.

This guy’s like the greatest jazz drummers and a Taiko troup all rolled into one. Amazing.

Freakishly awesome solo. Marco’s definitely one of the best. These guys are all maestros.

Sometimes miss performing but I *really* don’t miss touring.

That band name sounds like the punch line to a joke or something…

Well, not that I’ll BE there (sadz) but the first Replacements show in 22 years will be tonight in Toronto as part of Riot-fest. Should have been at first ave but it’d still be good to see them.

I lift one for the departed (Bob) and one to those who remain (Paul, Tommy, Chris & Kevin).

I’ve been outside working in the yard all day, but I had to run to Home Depot to get a part for the weed trimmer earlier and guess what I saw?

A big doofus guy with an I AM CHRIS LANE t-shirt on. I just laughed at him. What else could I do? I’m SO over these freaking idiots and I can’t move, so I guess laughing at them is the only thing I can do besides drink heavily. Daily. Starting at around 8 am. Fucking Idiot. Yes you’re Chris Lane, just like him, yep. Solidarity man.

So, between almost literally running head on into Bob Barr yesterday and this nitwit today, I think I’m pretty set on libertarian/wingnut contact for awhile.

I was buying cat litter and cat food yesterday and ended up parked next to an older model Honda Accord. It had two SCV decals and a big “The South Was Right” bumper sticker on it. And a Romney bumper sticker as well. Just another indication that the sickness is not just The South but also a national issue to at least some degree since this was Pennsylvania.

It’s kinda amusing and very sad at the same time that losers are so proud to publicly display their loser status in life…

Right about what exactly? That slavery and treason are acceptable practices?

I’ve seen more than more fair share I Love Slavery flags, aka the Stars and Bars, in South Jersey and Philly than I care to admit. The one put up by a relative’s teenage sons in their basement was particularly aggravating, but not surprising.

Well Mom, The Chris Lane murder is a big thing in Oklahoma. It is so shocking.
Earlier this year we experienced 2 F5 tornadoes within 10 days or so of each other.
But as shocking and as sad as those were..It was considered an ‘Act of God’ and we live in Okla fucking homa and it is to be somewhat expected. This murder was the worst and never expected. I never bitched about we are Trayvon Martin Tee-shirts and I sure understand the we are Chris Lane tee-shirts. It’s beyond senseless and I understand the raw emotions.

I think it’s a fertile mix of racism, rebellion against authority, cluelessness of the actual history of the symbol, the symbol being fairly widespread in cultural use (without connection explanation), and that many think it simply looks “cool” from an aesthetic viewpoint.

Well, there was this young blond in a stars and bars bikini today. I decided not to look at her friend’s tattoos too closely. I really didn’t want to find 14 or 88 or the like in the mix…

Being someone who doesn’t know a lot of Civil War history, while reading a book on the history of Atlantic City the other day I was somewhat gobsmacked the to discover that South Jersey aligned itself with the Confederacy during the Civil War. Also, in the 1860 election it split its electoral college votes between Lincoln & Douglas, then in 1864 gave ALL its electoral votes to McClellan. WTF, NJ? Yeah, I know, there were also economic reasons for it, but still…

NJ, and especially Atlantic City, has a fascinating history. I picked up some sobering black history also, and there were things that were oddly similar to some of the racism we’re seeing today. Wish I’d known some of what I’ve been reading back when I lived there. Looking back, knowing the history really helps clarify why things are the way they are there, even today.

re: #24 A Man for all Seasons

Maybe so, but Chris Lane’s family is going to get some justice- it may not bring their son back, but the people responsible have been arrested and will stand trial, and that happened rather promptly. I also would bet my friendly neighborhood Lane supporter could have given a rat’s ass about Trayvon Martin or his family. I also would lay money that this person doesn’t give a shit about the Lane family either. It’s about WHO shot him. Had the kids all been white(or black for that matter), this wouldn’t even be on the radar screen of some yahoo in GA.

Both were tragic and stupid wastes of life, but equating the two is a stretch. White people are not targeted because of race in all facets of life and to pretend they are is bull.
