House Republicans Outraged! (At Ted Cruz)

Escape from reality

A picture of a political party lost in a fantasy world: House Republicans Question Cruz’s Obamacare-Defunding Fervor.

When even Ted Cruz is trying to talk you down from the ledge, and you get all outraged at his statement of fact because you just don’t like it and you’re not gonna take it and how dare he — you might have a problem.

Washington (CNN) - Republicans in the House of Representatives expressed outrage with one of their compatriots on the other side of the Capitol Wednesday, questioning whether or not Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is really all-in on defunding Obamacare or if he’s trying to put all the onus of defunding the bill on the House.

The House outrage stems directly from a statement from Cruz and fellow GOP stalwarts against Obamacare in the Senate, Marco Rubio and Mike Lee. In it, Cruz said Senate Republicans simply don’t have the votes necessary to keep defunding language in the continuing resolution to fund the government after Oct. 1. Republicans have been attempting to push a bill that would fund the rest of the government while defunding the health care law, a bill Democrats have vowed to fight.

“(Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so,” Cruz said in the statement.

I am amused by the irony in suggesting that the guy who couldn’t get through the response to the State of the Union without needing a glass of water is capable of filibustering this bill.

Let’s see him filibuster it using the TX Legislature rules.

It really is amazing. A huge nasty push to get this passed in the house, and then promptly walks away from it to give himself cover.

A sad, nasty little part of me wants to see Rome burn just to have the finger pointed at him and his ilk for doing this.

GOP rep.: Slashing food stamps by $40 billion means ‘more money’ for the hungry

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MA) on Thursday asserted that cutting $40 billion from the food stamp program over the next 10 years would actually provide “more money” to hungry Americans.

“It’s a 5 percent decrease, when we know that there is 10.5 percent of the stores that take food stamps are engaged in trafficking,” Harris replied. “So we know the fraud stands at 10 percent of the stores. We only want to cut 5 percent.”

“That ought to leave more money getting to the hands of the people who do need it,” he added. “And there are millions of Americans who need that benefit.”

“But if you change the requirement, some people will be eliminated from qualifying for food stamps,” Costello noted. “There are critics who say that those people need them too. And how do you decide who needs food stamps and who doesn’t?”

“Well, again, there’s the one study that showed — by the Dept. of Agriculture — 10.5 percent of stores are committing fraud,” Harris insisted. “And, you know what we’re doing, is we’re just saying, ‘Look, if we’re going to help you with food stamps — and we are — then we need you to either work, look for employment — if you’re able bodied, not disabled and able to work — either look for work or engage in job training.’ We think that’s a common-sense trade-off for getting help from the American taxpayer that needy people need.”

Gives us some idea of how Repubs would have responded to 9-11 with Al Gore in the WH.

No doubt the GOP would have found a way to disgrace itself if Gore had been president when 9/11 happened.

However, I also think that the GOP’s malice and madness has gotten much worse since 2001. If a major terrorist attack were to happen in the remainder of Obama’s term, the GOP response would be to pass articles of impeachment out of the House and it would go downhill from there (e.g., tie any funding for or authorization of a response to repeal of Obamacare).

John Stewart nails it:

Stewart pointed out in a series of clips, Republicans like Fox News host Eric Bolling insisted on hiding behind the Second Amendment when dealing with gun regulations while advocating for increased police surveillance on mosques.

“So if you believe Mohammed is God’s messenger on Earth and you want to go to a mosque, that’s probable cause,” Stewart said, before referring to an incident involving Alexis.

“But if you believe a microwave is God’s messenger on Earth, and you want to buy a gun,” Stewart said, summing it up with a mocking kiss of his own fingertips.

House insiders say a handful of House Republicans cursed Cruz in the cloakroom on Wednesday, and a leadership source says angry e-mails were exchanged among GOP staffers who consider Cruz to be a charlatan. “Cruz keeps raising conservatives’ hopes, and then, when we give him what he wants, he doesn’t have a plan to follow through,” an aide fumes. “He’s an amateur.” Another aide says, “Nancy Pelosi is more well-liked around here.”

I just don’t get this…At all.
After over 40 votes on Obamacare that was only for show now the GOP will try to shut down our Government because they feel this is a disaster.
Well it’s the damn law and if the GOP thinks it’s so bad then let it become a part of America’s healthcare system. If it really is that bad then the results will crush the Dem party for 20 years. Fake courage is taking a useless vote over and over. Real courage is allowing the law of the land to take total effect and let the chips fall where they will. Courage is to follow the law of the land and offer tweaks to the law to make it better for Americans.
Currently this whole business by the GOP to defund and/or shut down the Government just appears as a Temper tantrum.

Heh…

It’s possible this was Cruz’ plan all along - grandstand about defunding Obamacare, goad the gopers in House to vote to defund it, then whine that it couldn’t be done in the Senate, because of Harry Reid. He’s made the news with this stunt, and no doubt raised a lot of money because of it. It’s also possible that he really thought that the Senate would vote to defund Obamacare, but now realizes that it just won’t happen. Either way, it shows that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. No surprise to most of us, but the gopers in the House seem to have thought he was “principled.”

Andy Harris is from Maryland, not Massachusetts. The original story got it wrong.

If he’s from one of those five dingbat counties that wants to secede and form their own state, there’s probably not much chance of seat flipping.

Currently, when it comes to the House and Senate, Massachusetts is 100% blue.
