President Obama Calls on Congress to Do Their Job and Pass a Budget that Works

Weekly Address: Congress Must Act Now to Pass a Budget and Raise the Debt Ceiling
US News • Views: 25,224

The villagers in the Washington press corps are so busy reporting the inside baseball arcana, palace intrigue aspects, and personalities of this impasse that they’ve lost focus on how government is constructed and how it’s supposed to work. They’ve allowed a narrow fringe of tea party extremists to frame their reporting.

In his weekly address, President Obama says the economy is making progress five years after the worst recession since the Great Depression, but to avoid another crisis, Congress must meet two deadlines in the coming weeks: pass a budget by the end of the month to keep the government open, and raise the debt ceiling so America can pay its bills. Congress should vote to do these now, so that we can keep creating new jobs and expanding opportunity for the middle class.

Nice try, Mr. President. It’s not going to happen though.

You should make it very clear to the American public who’s at fault for the deadlock though.

What? You expect fact checking? That’s not my job.

Asking the GOP/TP to compromise is akin to asking a skunk not to stink.

That’s just wrong. Skunks can actually control themselves.

Point being the GOP/TP cannot. I think I did a disservice to skunks everywhere. I apologize to every skunk out there….

Did he forget the part that Pres and VP candidates have to be from different states? It’s in the constitution and everything.

I don’t have time to expand on this the way I’d like but I’ve been pondering many things over the past few days and one thing that really sticks out is this:

Human beings are really really good at wasting money. We have the resources to do way more than any of us realize but because the funds are not spent wisely, it never happens.

I don’t know what’s worse. The lying or the hypocrisy. What, does he think if they cut the hell out of SNAP that his district gets that money? And of course those subsidies go to the “job creators” so it’s just fine, it’s those awful poor people that are ruining the country.

Who knew poor people were so powerful? Why I bet they have their own lobby shops on K Street that write legislation and bribe congresscritters with campaign money and favors and give them jobs when they leave congress…oh wait….

That’s the 12th amendment. I think they only can only go up to the 10th since they run out of fingers after that.

Exposing all the racism, idiocy, and bigotry that still exists in this country by pandering shamelessly to all of it.

It’s hard to begin treating a problem until you know just how bad it is.

Triple-Ply Wow

The day after the horrific DC Navy Yard massacre I told you about Thomas Hoshko, CEO of the defense contractor ‘The Experts’ who hired assailant Aaron Alexis, and the gargantuan yacht he uses to wine and dine defense officials. Now we learn that just over 24 hours after the attack, Hoshko emailed Navy Secretary Ray Mabus offering his firm’s services to help get a handle on the Navy’s security problems.

Sort of. Exclusive: U.N. monitors see arms reaching Somalia from Yemen, Iran
It was kind of an interesting reminder looking through the history of Iranian hints at moderation, opening up to the west, etc. One of the first examples was the Reagan era arms deal was US testing the waters of Iran’s interest in negotiations with the US.

That’s the best spin I’ve ever seen on the Iran-Contra scandal. Kudos. I don’t think even Bill Kristol could have said that with a straight face.

OFFS. Honestly, it’s like they’re just daring someone to stop them at this point. Not just this assclown, but all of ‘em. There’s never any consequences for their actions or lack thereof and yet it’s the middle class and the poor that are the problem.

I really hate these overrated self important bastards. Is it wrong of me to wish this guy has a slip into shark infested waters moment on his fucking yacht?

The last time Iran seriously reached out to us was just after 9/11 — they have their own reasons for hating Al Qaeda almost as much as we do, so there was solid grounds for thinking this was something we can work together on. They were hugely helpful with our initial invasion of Aghanistan; use of their border crossings, up-to-date maps, personal introductions to anti-Taliban militias, etc.

Then Bush used the State of the Union to say they’re in the Axis of Evil and… well, that discredited the moderates and strengthened the hardliners in the Iranian regime and we had to wait a decade before they were willing to chance another try.

Wow, it really is in there…

Why did we decide that was necessary for our democracy to function? I thought the reason you picked a VP from a different state to balance the ticket was enough…

Your first sentence, Randall, so thorougly describes media failure to perfection.

“The villagers in the Washington press corps are so busy reporting the inside baseball arcana, palace intrigue aspects, and personalities of this impasse that they’ve lost focus on how government is constructed and how it’s supposed to work. They’ve allowed a narrow fringe of tea party extremists to frame their reporting.”
