Ted Cruz on Meet the Press: You Want Health Insurance? Get a Job.

Deranged
Wingnuts • Views: 22,507

MSNBC Video

See if you can count the lies that come out of Ted Cruz’s mouth during this interview on Meet the Press.

I think my favorite crazy line was that Harry Reid wants to use “brute political force” to fund the Affordable Care Act — a law that was passed years ago — or maybe it was Cruz’s idiotic, heartless advice to people who need health insurance: “get a job.”

These people are so deranged, it’s truly disturbing.

Like, shutting down the government- that’s a REAL job.

So, the ACA has not even been fully implemented, yet according to the teatards the ACA is:

*killing Americans…literally
*rationing health care
*killing jobs
*killing the economy
*raising the cost of health care
*shutting down small businesses

Did I forget anything?

That line Cruz used about small businesses deliberately staying under 50 employees because of Obamacare is pure fantasy.

This is what I posted after listening to Mr. Cruz on MTP this morning:

OMG! I’m watching Sen. Cruz on MTP…
People like me who always thought the Tea Party was a some what a lame movement consisting mostly of old people pissed off about taxes, Obama and the GOP losing power. I played down the fringe elements.

I am becoming deeply alarmed over these self styled revolutionaries.
America.. Mr. Cruz is the fruit of the Tea Party.
What have they wrought on this Nation?
The shut down of the Government is only the opening act for this bunch.
They don’t want to legislate, they want to burn the Hill down and remake it to their image of America in the 50’s and 60’s.
I don’t think I’m overstating my alarm about the Tea Party.

I have always been taken aback seeing the cost of health insurance in the US for self-employed people, who lack the negotiating power of big corporations. In many cases, it makes health care simply unaffordable to independent entrepreneurs… But then, wasn’t the Republican party supposed to be all about “free enterprise”?

In effect, the current obstacle is an obstacle to free enterprise - and an incentive for middle-class people to stick with salaried job and corporate exploitation… If the Republicans were serious about “freedom of enterprise”, they would welcome the ACA with glee…

Yes. Abbott has filed something like 30 different lawsuits against the Obama administration so far. His threats to sue over the gun treaty are just the latest in his massive pile of fail.

You know, because the Texas AG has nothing better to do than just sue the feds.

I hope a second GOP shutdown of the federal government because of a temper tantrum finally shows the American people that the GOP doesn’t give two shits about the American people. They’d rather screw over the American people than concede defeat in the healthcare battle. ACA passed. The USSC has affirmed its constitutionality. And numerous repeal attempts. I’m sorry Republicans and wingnuts but you don’t get to threaten to shut down the federal government over that and expect to be taken seriously as a voice of reason but then again you lost that with me, the second you actively pandered to people who believed Civil Rights was a communist plot to take over the South.

House GOPer: Shutdown ‘Is A Loser For Us’

Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) said Sunday that a federal government shutdown would probably be a “loser” for the Republican party.

“I think everybody agrees that this is a loser for us if the government shuts down,” Labrador said on Meet The Press. “That’s why I think the president and the Democrats want to shut down the government.”

Its real simple, dumbass.

1) Fund the Government
2) Hold weekly “defund Obamacare” votes, which will all go down in flames.

Texas First Lady Calls Abortion ‘A Woman’s Right’

Perry’s husband, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), has helped push through a slew of laws restricting and eroding access to abortion in the state. He is on record deriding the idea that the right to privacy extends to abortion, and has signed a pledge urging opposition to abortion “without exception and without compromise,” and explicitly stated that his goal is to make abortion in Texas “a thing of the past.”

Apparently, his wife does not agree. When asked at an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival if she thinks the governor’s administration “got it right” on abortion policy, Anita Perry immediately responded, “Well, that’s really difficult for me.” And while she clearly expressed personal opposition to abortion, she twice referred to that choice as “a woman’s right.”

INTERVIEWER: Your view is: governor’s got it right, the administration has it right.

ANITA PERRY: Well, that’s really difficult for me Evan because I see it as a woman’s right. If they want to do that, that is their decision. They have to live with that decision.

INTERVIEWER: Mrs. Perry I want to be sure that you didn’t just inadvertently make news. Are you saying that you believe that abortion is a woman’s right — to make that choice?

PERRY: It is not mine. It is not something that I would say for them.

INTERVIEWER: Do you believe that the state is attempting to say for them? And that if the governor and the administration had its way it would say for women that it is not their right?

PERRY: I think it goes back to the states and Texas has decided that no that is not what we want in the state.

INTERVIEWER: But your personal point of view is that it’s a person’s decision within the law to make that choice?

PERRY: Well I don’t really think that’s making news. I mean, I think that yeah, that could be a woman’s right. Just like it’s a man’s right if he wants to have some kind of procedure.

The thing is this law was passed. It was debated, it has survived numerous repeal attempts, and the Supreme Court, headed by a man who many in Cruz’s party have claimed should be a judicial role model affirmed its constitutionality. You don’t get to threaten to shut down the government because you don’t like legislation. For example, I thought the Bush tax cuts while simultaneously fighting two wars was a stupid and wrongheaded policy, would it have been right for the Dems in the House to threaten shutdown over that? And please spare me the hyperbole about government power when this very same party proposed what we call today Obamacare as an alternative to the Clinton’s proposals in the 90’s and even Barack Obama’s opponent had exacted in Massachusetts. And this is also the party that wants to use the government to guilt trip women who want to get a legal procedure, abortion so I don’t want to hear it from them about big government when they’re perfectly happy to use it when they have an agenda.

The prejudicial presumptions and favorite right wing/tea party talking points — that those who are out of work would prefer to subsist on welfare rather than be gainfully employed, and that only unemployed people need food stamps and/or lack health insurance — are completely baseless and perpetuate the ignorance-based stereotype of people in need as being lazy parasites on society … no doubt a deliberate tactical decision by the callous propaganda peddlers in the right wing blogosphere.

In addition, many conservatives indignantly point out that the United States has the best medical care available anywhere in the world. This may or may not be true, but it totally misses the point.

If people are denied or cannot afford to pay for health insurance coverage, let alone their own (or their children’s) preventative care or chronic illness medical treatments, then as far as medical care availability is concerned, there’s no there there.

The Congressional GOP to constituents: “Can’t make ends meet? No health care coverage? It sucks to be you!

This doofus doesn’t get it. My husband has a job, his employer pays for HIS insurance, not mine, not our son’s. It’s around 160 a month just for The Husband, add me, it jumps to 415 a month. Add our son and it doubles again. Fucked up thing, if I had 6 kids, it costs the same as one. So, we put me on the Husband’s insurance and bought a stand alone policy for the kid. That saves us about 300 a month, but this is killing us. And I doubt I can get off his insurance and go on the exchange and I’m not sure the kid will be allowed to because the Husband’s work offers it. As it is, we’re forking out 250 bucks a paycheck just for insurance, when you’re only bringing home around 1500 a paycheck, that’s a big chunk of change. If I was bringing in 175K(and this ain’t his only income, I’d bet money on that-most congresscritters come from other more lucrative careers) a year I probably wouldn’t be worried about the cost either, but damn, what a DICK thing to say to people. People ARE working you bloated sac of protoplasm, they just aren’t being PAID for an honest day’s work.

I wonder if these assholes are pissed because they have to go on the same insurance exchanges as everyone else now? Which makes their healthcare less “special” or something.

ACA isn’t ideal legislation but I see no real alternatives being offered by the Republicans to it. Yeah I missed the whole President signing the bill into law thing. I even remember the president’s party going from controlling the House to losing it. And a whole Supreme Court case. Listen, we had the debate over it and despite the right wing hypocrisy/hysteria over the issue, we had it and it was for the best but it’s been passed, the president has signed it in to law, John Roberts and four other members of the USSC affirmed its constitutionality, and despite what the TP caucus in the House thinks, President Obama nor the senate isn’t going to repeal it. If the GOP wants to work on making ACA more efficient and effective, by all means, but please stop threatening the government because you’re bitter that the above has happened.

Fact checking Raffy “Ted” Cruz’s Meet the Press Obamacare lies

First, on his claim that Congress is exempt , CNN begs to differ (h/t: Reader Riccardo Cabeza). Congress isn’t exempt.
politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com
………………
And finally, Raffy laughably said the Affordable Care Act “is not working.” Actually, the parts that have been implemented are working:

- Children can now stay on their parent’s insurance until they are 26

- Preventive health services are already being covered

- Big Insurance must spend at least 80% of the money a person pays in to pay for their treatment, and if a company exceeds the limit, it must pay rebates, money that many of us have already received

- Insurance companies can no longer deny coverage to children with pre-existing medical conditions

- The Medicare “doughnut hole” has been closed

Yeah I love how the Tea Bag wave is the “will of the people” even though it was in a midterm election and turnout was low but the wave that rode Obama into office meant nothing in 2009. Will Fischer care about the will of the people the next time the Republicans lose control of the House? Does he care that the will of the people preferred Barack Obama to John McCain and later Mitt Romney or that Barack Obama is the only president since Reagan to get 50% of the vote in both elections? No, he doesn’t but the TP House we got stuck in because of apathy and right wing propaganda is what we should deem the will of the people.

If Cruz wants to think his father only made it because of the underwear on his pants or that 100 dollars then I’ve got a bridge to sell him. A question for Senator Cruz:

Get a job to be able to get insurance?

As a fellow Texan, I would LOVE to get a job, as I’ve been out of work for the better part of four YEARS now, as a result of the economy crash.
The only reason I’m not homeless today, and avoided crippling debt is due to the fact that I had a significant amount of savings put back over the past fifteen years-plus of employment, which unfortunately is now completely depleted.
The worst part? I’m stuck when it comes to job prospects - because of the gap on my resume’, employers who are hiring at my skill level want recent experience, and entry-level work (that I would have to take a 40%-plus pay cut on) all say that I’m far too overqualified for consideration. It’s not due to a lack of effort on my part either - in the last month alone, I have filed applications with at least two dozen companies and staffing agencies. For my efforts I’ve gotten two return phone calls and one interview in the past four months’ time.

Because I’m a single male, over 40 but under 55, with no dependents, I don’t qualify for any state-level aid - even emergency rent assistance isn’t available - because to receive aid in Texas, you have to show proof of employment to qualify (in yet another case of catch-22).

Yeah. “Get a job”.

I don’t know what it is about the Republican Party but they’ve gone down a nasty path since Eisenhower was president. A question for Senator Cruz:

Get a job to be able to get insurance?

As a fellow Texan, I would LOVE to get a job, as I’ve been out of work for the better part of four YEARS now, as a result of the economy crash.

I was just thinking about this.

David Gregory says that 25% of Texans have no health insurance.

Senator Cruz says that the best way to get health insurance is to get a job.

Texas’s unemployment rate is 6.4%.

Somewhere there’s an 18.6% that Senator Cruz is ignoring.

I know plenty of people with jobs but not insurance, or shitty insurance that makes you think “what’s the point”.
I am lucky my husband has great benefits. Although he’s a Ranger combat Vet with full medical coverage, he decided to take a job with the Federal government for lower pay than another job he was offered, but much better benefits, so I could be covered well. It was very hard for him to get this job.

My job, on the other hand, has what many here (Texas) think of as good health coverage. Let’s put it this way, I could not afford to get sick under my insurance.

“Get a job” whatever Ted.

If there is one thing that is obvious over the last 100+ years, when power is given to government over our lives, it is NEVER given back. NEVER, EVER!

I can name a lot of powers that were given to the govenment that were given back. Like, there’s no draft on. You can say that a draft could come into play, so that power hasn’t been taken back, but functionally, it has. The power of the government to say that some people of different races were less equal and had fewer rights, that got taken back. That was a new power— race-based legislation was an invention.

You’d have to define your terms better, but since you’re really just spouting talking points I doubt you can.

So here’s a question for the masses:

Do you think it’s possible that once the healthcare exchanges are up and running that prices overall will come down for employer based plans too? I’m still trying to figure out what’s going to happen in our family since The Husband’s new employer(since June) has made it so expensive to put anyone but him on the plan. But since the employer offers it, we can’t do the exchanges. My understanding is that you can opt out if 2 conditions are met, the premiums are more than 9.5 percent of your income AND (not or) they cover less than 60 percent of your costs when you make a claim. We’re yes on the first, no on the second.

Aetna and some smaller company they bought out (Coventry health or something like that) have opted out of GA’s exchanges which sounds kind of dumb to me, unless they are allowed to jack up the rates outside the exchanges. Otherwise why would you turn away thousands of new customers? I hope this all gets ironed out by the end of enrollment in the spring. I guess by then we’ll know what the real problems are not the made up ones. Hopefully the fixes aren’t that hard to implement.

Cruz: I Didn’t Compare Defund Obamacare Skeptics To Nazi Appeasers

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) asserted Sunday that he didn’t compare those skeptical of his defund Obamacare effort to Nazi appeasers during his 21-hour quasi-filibuster last week.

“The premise of your question isn’t true. I didn’t make that comparison,” Cruz said when asked by Meet The Press host David Gregory if he regretted the comments. “I went through the centuries where, over and over again, when facing big challenges, Americans have risen to the occasion… At every stage, there were the voices of conventional wisdom that said this can’t be done, and every time, Americans have risen to the challenge.”

Cruz Likens Obamacare Defunding Skeptics To Nazi Appeasers (VIDEO)

During a floor speech Tuesday aimed at reviving the already-dim prospects for his effort to defund Obamacare, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) likened his doubters to Nazi appeasers.

“If you go to the 1940s, Nazi Germany,” Cruz said. “Look, we saw in Britain, Neville Chamberlain, who told the British people, ‘Accept the Nazis. Yes, they’ll dominate the continent of Europe but that’s not our problem. Let’s appease them. Why? Because it can’t be done. We can’t possibly stand against them.’”

“And in America there were voices that listened to that,” he continued. “I suspect those same pundits who say it can’t be done, if it had been in the 1940s we would have been listening to them. Then they would have made television. They would have gotten beyond carrier pigeons and beyond letters and they would have been on tv and they would have been saying, ‘You cannot defeat the Germans.’”

I will admit to be nervous about what we’ll have to pay for our Kaiser plan this coming year. It is already extortionate, and we’re moving up into a new age bracket this year. Now we could presumably find cheaper insurance on the exchanges, but that would mean finding new doctors and all. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but at least there should be time to look around at options if I’m very unpleasantly surprised.

Regardless, I am very happy that people with preexisting conditions will be able to get insurance. We’ve bought our own healthcare insurance for years and I know exactly how insurance companies get rid of the people they don’t want (even though we, fortunately, are pretty healthy.)

Gotta love people who aren’t comfortable with Darwin, but are really comfortable with Social Darwinism.

Note: Social Darwinism contains 0% Darwin by volume. Gaahhhhh! WTF?? Brain bleach, hot shower, stat!

Having forgotten who in the hell Theodore Dalrymple is, I followed a link from my Google alerts to a thread on his website about Fjordman. The posters are total fan boys and one of them… I can’t even…

Conversely, more and more libertarians and right-thinking people (there is now a growing counter-movement at last - you know this!) are tentatively saying that, for all the horror, there were some aspects of Nazi Germany that were proper and correct. Unfortunately (or rather not) they are probably right.

I just… how can… arrrghhhhh!

or maybe it was Cruz’s idiotic, heartless advice to people who need health insurance: “get a job.”

From a guy who has never worked in the private sector.

These people aren’t just heartless Randroid sociopaths. I am really beginning to believe that they are intrinsically evil on some level.

They actually want people to starve, sicken and die if they come up on the losing side of our powerball lottery economy. You saw audiences cheer for that explicit outcome in the GOP debates.

When we wonder how Germans allowed people to be put into the camps or why they did not feel a common bond of humanity with German and French Jews…we can look back at the GOP audience members who shouted “Let them die!” when the moderator asked about treating sick people without insurance. The same hate for “the other” is alive and well right here.

So, the ACA has not even been fully implemented, yet according to the teatards the ACA is:

*rationing health care
*killing jobs
*killing the economy
*raising the cost of health care
*shutting down small businesses

Did I forget anything?

Uh…let’s see…Obamacare:

Forty-four percent of individuals said they would blame Republicans if the government shuts down on Oct.1, according to a CBS/New York Times poll, while 35 percent of respondents would blame President Obama and congressional Democrats. The poll, conducted Sept. 19-23 among 1,014 adults nationwide, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

Remember that the 1995 shutdown only really turned on Republicans after it came out that Gingrich did it because he was unhappy with his Air Force One seating arrangements. The fact that 44% are willing to blame Republicans in a poll totally devoid of context doesn’t bode well for them at all.

re: #49 not_sure

I realize that you won’t pay attention, but the way a Democratic-Repubic works is we elect people who then work together who pass laws, and if people don’t like them, then they vote those people out of office. And yet, here we are, two congressional and one presidential election later, and the senate that passed the bill is still in Democratic hands, and the president that signed the bill is still president.

The only reason Republicans still have control of the House is gerrymandering - they got a million fewer votes than Democrats did, in the one place that is supposed to truly represent the voters. So, you know what, if the voters didn’t really like the law, they didn’t exactly vote against it.

I can see now this site is vitriolic haven for idiot “free stuff” liberals. Wow. The low IQ here is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.

Another mixed metaphor without meaning.

You’ve got nothing substantive to say. You appear to have little if any knowledge of the issues. Your posts are either just insults to liberals and commenters here, or nihilistic crap like “both parties hate everything.” Try making an argument based on facts in a slightly respectful way and you’ll get responded to in kind.
