Ted Cruz Is in Hot Water - With the GOP

Far right loon raked over the coals by colleagues
Politics • Views: 19,252

Ted Cruz is very unpopular today.

With Senate Republicans.

Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it.

At a closed-door lunch meeting in the Senate’s Mansfield Room, Republican after Republican pressed Cruz to explain how he would propose to end the bitter budget impasse with Democrats, according to senators who attended the meeting. A defensive Cruz had no clear plan to force an end to the shutdown — or explain how he would defund Obamacare, as he has demanded all along, sources said.

Things got particularly heated when Cruz was asked point-blank if he would renounce attacks waged on GOP senators by the Senate Conservatives Fund, an outside group that has aligned itself closely with the Texas senator.

Cruz’s response: “I will not,” according to an attendee.

I’ve been wondering how long a leash the rest of the party is going to give this brat. He seems to be willing to climb over their carcasses to pad his own TP resume.

Like I said last night - he’d better hope his closet is skeleton-free. Someone’s gonna come for him sooner or later.

In another day and age, Cruz would have been tarred, feathered and rode out of town on a rail by his own party.

I’ll be curious as to how this plays out. The Senate is known for decorum, but they have decorous ways of kicking Senators to the curb.

Also, couldn’t happen to a nicer douchebag.

The thing is the GOP doesn’t have the numbers and TP influence in the Senate like they do in the House, so Cruz has a much less friendlier crowd to deal with.

That’s because it’s much harder to gerrymander the Senate, and so the TP loons coming out of the primary have this bad habit of resulting in a Democrat seat.*

Aide: Boehner suggested grand budget bargain to White House and ‘everybody laughed at him’

President Barack Obama and Democratic congressional leaders have said they won’t negotiate until the government is fully funded.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) suggested a grand bargain on the budget during a meeting Wednesday with Obama and congressional leaders but was met with skepticism.

“Everybody laughed at him because they’ve heard this song and dance so many times before,” a Democratic aide told Politico.

Recall of Legislators and the Removal of Members of Congress from Office

Under Article I, Section 5, clause 2, of the Constitution, a Member of Congress may be removed from office before the normal expiration of his or her constitutional term by an “expulsion” from the Senate (if a Senator) or from the House of Representatives (if a Representative) upon a formal
vote on a resolution agreed to by two-thirds of the Members of that body present and voting.

While there are no specific grounds for an expulsion expressed in the Constitution, expulsion actions in both the House and the Senate have generally concerned cases of perceived disloyalty to the United States, or the conviction of a criminal statutory offense which involved abuse of
one’s official position.

Each house has broad authority as to the grounds, nature, timing, and
procedure for an expulsion of a Member. However, policy considerations, as opposed to questions of authority, have appeared to restrain the Senate and House in the exercise of expulsion when it might be considered as infringing on the electoral process, such as when the electorate knew of
the past misconduct under consideration and still elected or re-elected the Member.

Well, this seems like responsible journalism…

Beck: Obama Administration Will Commit Mass Killings Following Monument Closure

On his program today, Glenn Beck blamed “Marxist revolutionaries” in the Obama administration for the closure of monuments in national parks during the government shutdown. Although the closures are actually the result of Republicans in Congress refusing to provide funding for the parks service, Beck blamed Obama anyway, claiming that the president formed a secret cabal in the White House to order the monuments close and “inflict pain” on the American people.

“I want you to understand you are now seeing what I told you about three weeks ago. I told you they have gone from nudge to shove,” Beck said. “You’re next step is shoot.”

“Understand they are into shove, every Marxist communist revolution always ends with millions dead. Always, without fail, every time.”

Beck went on to describe atrocities committed by communist regimes, which he said is the next move of the Obama administration: “They starved them to death. Why? To teach them a lesson. This is the beginning of teaching the American people a lesson: don’t you screw with us.”

He warned that if people “don’t straighten up” the Republican Party with his “Defund the GOP” campaign then “it will be too late.”

President Obama is a Constitutional lawyer by profession. He taught in University of Chicago Law School for ten years. He’s in a unique position to appreciate how dangerous the Republican temper tantrum (the shutdown) is to our Constitutional system. The Affordable Care Act has gone through all the Constitutional hurdles: passed by both houses of Congress, signed into law by the President, upheld by the Supreme Court. Our Constitutional system is based on this being ENOUGH.

So I don’t believe the President will give an inch on the shutdown. He has too much respect for the Constitution, and he will not allow it to be weakened on his watch.

Totally agree. He’s up against lawn mower salesmen sponsored by the CoC and the Koch Bros pulling this shit, not even on his level.

I know who I trust, and it’s not the one trying to sell me a shit sandwich.

re: #81 Lidane

Everything I’ve read about Rick Santorum’s time in the Senate suggested that even the other Republicans hated him because he was a sanctimonious, humorless prick. I don’t remember the Senate trying to run him out on a rail, though.

I’ll give Cruz credit. When he commits to being a prick, he goes all out. I’m impressed his own party hate him so much already.

Did you read the story about him acting like a dick at Hooters because they wouldn’t take his credit card or some shit like that. I just imagined him saying I’m Ted Cruz, goddamn it. And then you read that the bastard didn’t even tip. It’s like, yep, he acts off the camera the same way he does on the camera like an egotistical prick. I’ve heard that even Jim Inholfe outside of politics isn’t unbearable to be around.

re: #81 Lidane

the more the “party” hates him the more the “base” loves him and given how R’s and their base love to feel persecuted they will love him even more.

Don’t count on that happening under even the most favorable circumstances. This is still on political differences and should not be subject to expulsion - just as surely as a policy difference cannot and should not result in presidential impeachment. Policy differences are not high crimes or misdemeanors.

I’m not sure what it says that I get most of my political news from the Daily Show these days.

Good, I hope this F-stick is shunned for the rest of his term and he is treated as the crazy guy mumbling on the subway is.

Tea Party = rabble

I actually think we should be legit worried about Cruz reaching national office. Here, in a few lines, is how it’s been unfolding in my head:

Say desperate Republicans let Chris Christie out of the presidential primaries as their nominee, but Christie has to cut a major deal to bring the base along.

The deal is Cruz, and Christie pulls the kind of Jersey Wiseguy routine that Big Media loves. In turn, the media gets so caught up with Christie that Cruz cruises, as the authoritarian Cheney did when the media got caught up in W’s “folksiness,” hammering Al Gore for his “aloofness” and the “earth tones” BS.

In the event of a Christie/Cruz ticket, President Obama had BETTER clear the field for Mrs. Clinton, because she’s the surest bet to have a number of things break her way, including getting Senator McCain, a friend of hers in his final term, to somehow undercut Cruz (The two sitting senators HATE each other. Really.). I could see other Republicans, including Rep. Peter King, crapping on Cruz, as well.
