Michele Bachmann at 2013 Values Voter Summit: Obamacare Is “Death Care”

“In the next shutdown, they’ll halt kidney transplants in progress”
Wingnuts • Views: 20,869

You can watch a live feed from the 2013 Values Voter Summit, if you’re some kind of crazed masochist on a mission. It’s really starting to take on a musty old smell this year; the extreme religious right isn’t aging well.

I just watched Michele Bachmann (R-Mars) boasting about how she took over the Lincoln Memorial when it was closed by the government shutdown, brandishing the yellow police tape she ripped down like a bizarre right wing trophy to cheers and applause.

She went on to say that “in the next shutdown,” the oppressive Obama regime will probably stop kidney transplants and C-sections in progress, because that’s how evil they are. And she coined a fabulous new phrase to describe the Affordable Care Act:

DEATH CARE!!!

This, dear friends, is one seriously whacked out gathering of far right kooks, conspiracy theorists, religious fanatics and outright racists.

Isn’t… um… isn’t that kind of a good reason not to keep causing government shutdowns, Michelle?

Well these are the ravings of someone completely sane.// Yes, Michelle, that’s exactly what they’ll do. I just wish someone on her staff would have the courage to her how insane she sounds but they’re probably afraid of her.

Yeah the wingnuts use her to claim that MLK would be on their side ignoring the fact that the man’s own wife and kids have uh shall we say differing views. I doubt MLK would tolerant CPAC’s rampant homophobia given his own friendship and defense of Bayard Rustin or the paranoia about better health care.

If I wanted to watch good theater, I’d head uptown where they’re currently filming Annie on the West Side. The Mrs. got a great photo of
Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx acting out a scene on the street.

VVS2013? Not so much.

When Bachmann starts talking about death panels and the next time the government shuts down, maybe she should be working a whole lot harder on actually making sure that it doesn’t shut down again (though how she thinks that preventing the shutdown in the future differs from mine and reality as well - for her, all’d be well if we just adopt the GOP position which essentially amounts to Fuck the Poor (and Uninsured)).

Except that’s exactly as she and the rest of the GOP wanted it. They wanted - and got - this shutdown because of their strident and overwhelming urge to commit one final act of glorious stupidity and derptastic in its effects.

They knew, or had every reason to know, that attempts to repeal would never succeed outside the House. They simply don’t have the votes, and voters already spoke when they decided Obama should get the 2d term. They ignored reality, the facts, and logic, and mounted this unending attempt to repeal Obamacare.

Instead of the blame being cast on Democrats as the GOP attempted to project, the blame is falling squarely on the GOP who launched this insanity. They’ve actually managed the trick of making Obamacare have higher ratings than Congress and the GOP in particular.

I heard on several news programs last night that the GOP NOT ONLY have made themselves as popular as an enema, AND made Obamacare more popular, BUT ALSO because the big story this week is all about whether the GOP will destroy the world economy, nobody’s reporting on the apparently majorly botched rollout of the Obamacare exchanges.

They could have been sitting there on the Sunday shows, being asked to opine on just how incompetent the Obama Administration is, just how clearly we need a delay in the implementation, and just how right they’ve been all along, but instead they’re being asked if they really are willing to send us into another Great Depression in a fit of pique.

Even if their ideology weren’t stupid, they are so mind-bogglingly incompetent at the simplest political tasks that they should never be trusted with anything more complex than a town council in a tiny village.

Truckers Protest At City Against Container Fees

Trucks drive near City Hall to protest shipping container fees being assessed against independent truckers as part of the ports’ Clean Truck Program to allow only newer, less-polluting trucks at the ports, on November 13, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The members of the National Port Drivers Association, who work the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, formed caravans from the ports to City Hall in downtown Los Angeles to demonstrate against the fees that they say impact their wages and hours. In October, the Port of Long Beach and the American Trucking Assn. reached a settlement over disputed elements of the air pollution cleanup plan. The port drop requirements not directly related to cleaning up the environment such as a demand for trucking companies to file financial reports, and truckers agreed to emissions, safety and security requirements. In an effort to get rid of dirty trucks, the ban on all 1988 and older trucks from the ports remains and as of January, only 2004-or-later trucks will be allowed in the port complex. Thousands of trucks make daily trips into and out of the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles which make up the busiest seaport complex in the nation.
