For those following the NJ special election between Cory Booker and nutbag Lonegan, here’s the results broken down by county:

nj.com

Also useful, how these counties have broken in past elections.
2012 - Menendez over Kryllios

2008 - Lautenberg over Zimmer

2006 - Menendez over Kean Jr

2002 - Lautenberg over Forrester

2000 - Corzine over Franks

Don’t expect those trends to change.

Such a nice clean thread, and here I am going to dirty it up with a post on racism:

Intelligence is just another privilege you inherited from mummy and daddy

[…]

Dominic Cummings had in fact used an accurate definition of heritability, as he states here, and the point he was making was that journalists routinely misunderstand genetics. What’s strange is that he was saying nothing that isn’t widely accepted; the very significant influence of heritable factors on differences in IQ within a population has been well known for four decades, and yet for political reasons it is ignored in education policy, both here and in the US.

[…]

This is just downright misleading.

What Ed West leaves out is that what he labels “significant influence” is not “significant” in the meaning of that word which would be synonymous with “large”, “majority”, or even “sizable minority”.

Rather, what has been shown is that IQ is affected in a very small amount ( a few IQ points on traditional scales) by genes, as far as describing variance of intelligence in a population. These finding may be statistically “significant” as used by statisticians describing empirical studies, but that simply implies a high likelihood of repeatability and that the studies are not just noise.

And of course Ed West side-steps the very considerable issue of exactly what is “intelligence” and what exactly are we measuring with IQ tests.

There is a persistent misuse of science by racists and this will, I expect, grow in the future.

As a society we don’t deal well with genetics, evolution, and of course statistics and empiricism.

And there are plenty of people out there with agendas who exploit this weakness of ours.

Sore fucking losers. And so not independent—just more wingnuts since Booker is winning.

I don’t know if anyone else posted this but here’s the pricing (without any subsidies you may have) for state by state healthcare costs. You do not have to enter any personal information and it gives you a good idea of the plans available. Even without subsidies (which I know I would qualify for) I would save at least $500.00 a month with a Platinum Plan over what I would have had to pay before. I don’t know about out of pocket limits, but this at least gives you a ballpark figure. Plans State by State

The House GOP is pissed at the President?

The rest of the country is pissed at the GOP for dragging the entire nation through this nonsense without any care for the consequences. Default is laughed off. Shutdown treated as agitprop theater and GOPers complaining that the shutdown would otherwise crimp their physical activities so they decided to keep the Congressional gym open while hundreds of thousands of people were furloughed.

Oh, and then the GOP took to claiming that they shouldn’t get retroactive pay. And on and on.

Reprehensible doesn’t begin to cover this.

With my last job I wouldn’t have qualified for subsidies, at least according to the calculator they link to. Assuming my next job doesn’t offer insurance (heaven forbid), I would at least be able to get great coverage for less than what I was paying before, and for far less than what COBRA would’ve cost me to keep my last job’s plan.

Republicans depend upon the fact that most people don’t hear the truth about their actions.

There is an agreement tonight that Congress will go to conference over the budget differences between the Senate and House. But 21 times Republican Senators have blocked going to conference. Here are the perpetrators:

1. 4/23 Senator Reid requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Toomey blocked.
2. 5/6 Senator Reid requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Cruz blocked.
3. 5/7 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator McConnell blocked.
4. 5/8 Senator Warner asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator McConnell blocked.
5. 5/9 Senator Murray asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator McConnell blocked.
6. 5/14 Senator Warner asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator McConnell blocked.
7. 5/15 Senator Wyden asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator McConnell blocked.
8. 5/16 Senator Murray asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Lee blocked.
9. 5/21 Senator Murray asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Paul blocked.
10. 5/22 Senator Kaine asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Rubio blocked.
11. 5/23 Senator McCaskill asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Lee blocked.
12. 6/4 Senator Murray asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Rubio blocked.
13. 6/12 Senator Kaine asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Lee blocked.
14. 6/19 Senator Murray asked unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Toomey blocked.
15. 6/26 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Cruz blocked.
16. 7/11 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Marco Rubio blocked.
17. 7/17 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Mike Lee blocked.
18. 8/1 Senator Durbin requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Marco Rubio blocked.
19. 10/2 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Toomey blocked.
20. 10/8 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Sessions blocked.
21. 10/9 Senator Murray requested unanimous consent to go to conference, Senator Cornyn blocked.

Counts:
McConnell 5
Lee 4
Rubio 4
Toomey 3
Cruz 2
Paul 1
Sessions 1
Cornyn 1

Here are the 16 Republicans that voted for default tonight (i.e. voted against cloture on the budget deal): Cornyn, Crapo, Cruz, Enzi, Grassley, Heller, Johnson (Wis), Lee, Paul, Risch, Roberts, Rubio, Sessions, Shelby, Toomey, Vitter

As much as it pains me to agree with Mr. Todd, I also think Obama should not have said anything until after the GOP votes.

Not out of any respect for the ambulatory skid marks of the House GOP delegation, of course. Just the sound principle that talk from GOPers is worthless, only the votes matter. Therefore there should be nothing that resembles an official declaration of victory before the GOP vote.

I’m not so sure. Obama explicitly said that the deal wasn’t done until the House votes, however it’s important to put an emphasis on the fact that this is the best and only deal they’re ever going to get.

He was remarkably restrained considering the amount of disrespect that’s been shown not only to him, but to the democratic process.

Nitpick, they didn’t vote against cloture, they voted against the deal. Had one of them voted against cloture then the mandatory 30 hours of debate would have begun and we’d be guaranteed to blow past the Thursday deadline.

Good point, and it is well made.

And I’ll also note that Mark Kirk did vote for the deal, as did John McCain. So I’d respectfully ask that those two don’t get lumped in with Cruz and Lee, at least for tonight.

The Fantasy World of Steve Lonegan.

Lonegan to House Republicans: Wait For My Victory, Obama Will Fold

GOP nominee for U.S. Senate Steve Lonegan today urged Republicans in the House of Representatives not to give into President Barack Obama’s demands for re-opening the government and raising the federal debt ceiling, declaring, “When I win, Obama will fold.”

“Republicans need to hold firm because seven days from today when Bob Menendez escorts me down the Senate aisle for my swearing in, the message about what our party should do will be clear for all,” Lonegan maintained.

“I have come as far as I have in this campaign by ignoring the advice from all the pollsters and consultants who have told me to change what I think and change who I am,” Lonegan added. “New Jerseyans are looking for a leader who fights for working taxpayers, not a Hollywood wannabe like Cory Booker who will rubber stamp the President’s far-left wing agenda.”

Lonegan says his internal polling shows a neck-and-neck race in the U.S. Senate contest and that all the momentum is in his favor. “My victory in this election on Wednesday will send a message to Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi that the American people want an end to Obamacare and the rest of the President’s radical agenda.”

The former three-term Bogota mayor called on Republicans to stop listening to the same consultants and pollsters who blew the 2012 election and who are telling the GOP to fold and instead stand firm for seven more days.

The Tea Partiers know that it’s easier for them to take over the GOP as it already has a national infrastructure; to build a new third-party infrastructure in all 50 states is a Herculean undertaking.

The only way they’ll go third-party is they try - and fail - to take over the GOP.

That’s the whole point, they’re in this civil war whether they like it or not. Time to take a cue from the Democrats and refuse to acquiesce to the demands of economic terrorists.

If they’d stood their ground against the extremist they could have at least counted on Wall Street / big business funding. Otherwise, the teabaggers will get control of the GOP by default.

Ted Cruz Blames Senate GOP For ‘Bombing Our Own Troops’ In The House

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stood behind his effort to use a government shutdown to defund the health care law Wednesday, blaming his fellow Senate Republicans for getting in the way of victory in the House.

Cruz told conservative talk show host Mark Levin that Republican senators had been “firing their cannons” at the House Republican caucus and likened the Senate GOP to an “air force bombing our own troops.”

Cruz also said that the Senate is “undoubtedly” broken.

“It’s a broken institution,” he said, adding that Senate Republicans are too concerned with “getting invited to the cocktail parties.”

The Senate did not take the full brunt of Cruz’s blame. The Texas firebrand called the Obama White House “the imperial presidency,” and said that Obama was “dangerous” because he “thinks he is above the law.”

Ultimately, Cruz said that his effort to defund Obamacare, which died in the Senate Wednesday night, was not a failure.

“It was an incredible victory,” Cruz said.

This is the tragic, as opposed to dangerous, result of conservative stochastic terrorism. You have right wing media and politicians pumping religiously minded people’s heads full of absolutely insane nonsense.

She could have been referring to the absence of a conscience clause for employers to impose their beliefs on employee contraception coverage. It’s not surprising, the kind of rhetoric employed by Cruz, Limbaugh, Fischer, and most conservative politicians and commentators eventually finds purchase in the most borderline an fragile minds.

Maybe Obama should send Boehner a package with a unicycle and a pair of clown shoes with a note saying, “I have altered the deal. Pray I do not alter it any further.”

/ ;)

This deal’s getting worse all the time.

Sounds like she was having a break down. Kind of sad to me.

Not necessarily. The stuff she’s saying is pretty much right in line with a bunch of conservative evangelical churches that view this nation as unique product of divine providence. Including the bit about Freemasons, who are frequently characterized as secularist bogeymen because of their “watchmaker God.”

MN has a history of being progressive in the area of health care and insurance. Mind you, it’s not Romneycare, but we do alright taking care of our own.

MN has the Mayo Clinic; they’re pioneers on team treatment, records compilation, family multi-malady consolidated management, infection abatement, nutrition, stress reduction, and many other cost control measures.

That’s why for the Medicare-eligible population MN’s per capita claim$ are less than half what TX runs up — and with better outcomes.

“This whole fight was completely preventable,” added Bachmann, who recently told a Biblical prophecy radio program that we are living in the End Times. “The problem is the administration said early on they were willing to see the American government go into default so they could have their agenda—that’s what the gambled on.” Republicans, however “are not willing to risk the full faith and credit of the United States.”

Daily Mail and Guardian merge to create new Moral Guardian paper

In a move that has surprised media experts, the Daily Mail and the Guardian are to join forces to create the Moral Guardian, a new paper that combines both moral outrage AND delicious hummus recipes.

In their first edition they have an exclusive scoop about how Romanian immigrants are coming over here and bringing with them delicious new cuisine, how Brussels bureaucrats are forcing everyone to do mindfulness yoga, plus leaked photos from the NSA revealing that Edward Snowden may be suffering from cellulite.

Does that make him a RINO now?

Here is the reality of politics - Issa is in a district he wins by a margin with a bit of breathing room, but it is also a district with lots of government employees, military, contractors, etc.

The reality of budgeting is that $$$== jobs.

He needed to keep the military personnel and defense contractors in his district happy, and that meant accepting the Freepers’ rage. It was the smart play, IMO.

Nitpick, they didn’t vote against cloture, they voted against the deal. Had one of them voted against cloture then the mandatory 30 hours of debate would have begun and we’d be guaranteed to blow past the Thursday deadline.

Well, no, what I said is correct. 60 votes are needed for cloture. A cloture vote was taken and 16 Republicans voted against it — those that I listed. That vote was 83 to 16.

Then they voted on the bill itself. It passed 81 to 18. The 18 included those 16 I listed, plus Coburn and Scott.
