Kansas: Former AG Phil Kline Suspended From Practicing Law for Professional Misconduct in Anti-Abortion Cases

Misconduct in his attacks on abortion clinics as AG.

Citing “clear and convincing evidence” of professional misconduct, the Kansas Supreme Court on Friday indefinitely suspended the law license of former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline.

The court found that Kline violated 11 rules governing the professional conduct of attorneys during his tenure as the state’s highest law enforcement officer and while he served as Johnson County district attorney.

The disciplinary action that led to Friday’s order arose from Kline’s investigation of abortion clinics while he was attorney general, and for his handling of a grand jury proceeding while Johnson County’s district attorney.

In Friday’s order, the court rejected the recommendation of the state’s disciplinary administrator for attorneys, who had sought Kline’s disbarment.

This asshole definitely bears some responsibility for the death of Dr. George Tiller. He was part of the religious right chorus that fed the climate of hatred leading to Tiller’s murder, in his church.

These are some of the worst people in America.

In a sane world, abortion would be treated as just another medical procedure and men like George Tiller not demonized to the point that men like Kline would violate the civil rights of numerous women on a single-minded crusade like this.

Rachel Maddow just did a segment on this guy and also about some stuff going on in New Mexico and how there is a network of violence being backed by the rhetoric of attorney generals, conservative governors and state reps and the like. It was extensive even going into some medical records that ended up on O’Rielly’s show that were thought to have been leaked by Kline.

The anti-abortion crazies are where the US right wing gets closest to the violent thuggery expected of a fascist movement. Bill O’Reilly bleating on air about “Tiller the Killer” until Tiller was murdered, and then washing his hands of his complicity in that act still outrages me.

I should note, I changed my original wording to add “thought to have been” leaked by Kline. He of course denied it.

Maddow went into the records in question. He requested clinic records for the state. They were actual records with the patient info redacted. Then he and his staff went and did all kinds of private eye malarkey to rebuild the identities of the patients. They then made copies and just happened to leave them around places in public. It is claimed O’Reilly happened to have some all the way from Kansas. Some real nasty stuff. Dangerous righteous zealots drunk on God and Country. Yeah fascist.
