Cruz: Senate won’t make same mistake in next fight

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz said Saturday that Republicans lost the government shutdown budget battle because some members of his own party in Congress turned on their colleagues, but that he doesn’t think they will make the same mistake during another political impasse.

“I am hopeful that in the future the Senate will listen,” Cruz, the tea party favorite and freshman senator from Texas, told a convention in Austin of the Texas Medical Association.

[…]

That’s right - Cruz is blaming the other Republicans in the Senate, not himself, for their latest disaster.

Well, I am going to make a guess and say that the Doctor Who fandom is in riot mode.

The trailer celebrating the 50th put Clara as equal to Sarah Jane.

Really? I’ve seen better video shots during a 1950’s B movie.. That’s imagination? Who knew dear students..You get a D.. Try again. :)
Speaking of students.. Oklahoma is getting their asses handed to them by Kansas today. The 104th meeting of the two Football programs. All week long early in the morning while it was still dark as I trudge off to work the Sooners have been practicing with the Stadiums lights blazing. I think Coach Stoops has worn the team down. They look terrible today. There is so much pressure to win at all costs here..And who the hell wants to practice football at 6am every morning?

He actually threatened GOP Senators who didn’t toe the line with being primaried by Tea Party goons.

Ted Cruz has quickly become the most horrible Republican politician in America. The epitome of everything wrong with the GOP.

they have worked it out in their mind, you see, that if nobody signs up on the exchanges, and everybody gets insurance from some other source, obamacare will die bwahahahaha

This is an anti-Highlander situation. So many GOP politicians are trying to be so horrible in so many different ways that there cannot be a worst one overall.

However, Cruz is certainly working hard, and probably has a lock on worst “fiscal conservative”.

Songwriter Spends Life Savings on Surgeries to Look Like Justin Bieber

Professional problem child Justin Bieber has many tween girls willing to hand their bodies over to him at a moment’s notice, but only one True Belieber was willing to transform his body for Bieber — and he’s a 33-year-old man.

LA-based “songwriter” Toby Sheldon idolizes Bieber to such an extent, that he spent the past five years and nearly $100,000 to turn his face into a shrine for the androgynous Canadian.

The zealotry cycle increases. Evict those who weren’t True Believers. Lose more voters, and hence more seats. Insist it’s because some believers weren’t True Enough, and repeat.

The believers’ strength may be as the strength of ten for their hearts are pure, but they still only get one vote.

More evidence for this is seen in the TX primary for Lt. governor, where the candidates are debating the 17th amendment (direct election of US Senators), of all the silly things to do. washingtonpost.com

Being batshit insane on the 17th amendment is like a not-so-secret handshake by which the true believers can identify each other and separate themselves from lesser members of the GOP coalition.

‘Desperate’ donors tighten purse strings on right-wing groups and ‘self-immolating’ GOP

Hard times have arrived for the Republican Party and particularly for right-wing pressure groups like Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, Heritage Action and the one-time lavishly funded tea party PAC, FreedomWorks. According to a report in Politico, heavyweight Republican donors are frustrated and “horrified” that their money is going to wrong-headed politicians and groups that appear to have no effect on election outcomes.

“In conversation after conversation, donors express growing frustration with the party and the constellation of outside groups they’ve been bankrolling,” wrote Politico’s Maggie Haberman and Anna Palmer.

Donors, they say, were “horrified in November after pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into campaigns for president and Congress with nothing to show for it,” and in the wake of the Republican shutdown fiasco, they have become even more concerned.

Freedomworks CEO calls government shutdown, debt ceiling crisis ‘brilliant Republican strategy’

The piece on the site Marginal Revolution by Tyler Cowan argues that the posturing by Republicans shifted the terms of debate, preventing policy makers from reversing some conservative gains made over the last few years. “In real terms government spending has been falling,” Cowan writes. “Sequestration appears to be permanent, or it will be negotiated away by Republicans in return for preferred changes in tax and spending policy. Leading Democratic intellectuals are talking about future fiscal bargains with no new taxes.”

PetaPixel has a cheap way to turn a smartphone into a heck of a macro camera.

If you’ve followed PetaPixel for a little while, you’ll already know that a laser pointer’s focus lens can be put to good DIY use helping you take macro photos with your smartphone.

And even though you can simply find a way to secure the lens against your phone, a new Instructable shows you how to build a microscope stand/macro photography rig that will eliminate that particular problem altogether… and for only $10!

Republicans are on side of God, Bible while Democrats supported by those who oppose

We can no longer deny that the Republican Party is on the Bible side of the culture war and that the Democratic Party is not.

After the Columbine, Colo. school murders almost all of the GOP members of Congress voted to post the Ten Commandments in schools but most of the Democrats voted against them. During the 2012 election the GOP again was on the Bible side and stood for traditional marriage, but the Democratic Party went the opposite way for same-sex marriage. GOP presidents install top judges like Clarence Thomas that defend the Bible but Democrat presidents install top judges like Ruth Ginsburg who rule against the Bible. The Communist USA Party and almost all that teach against God support the Democrat Party.

Listen to talk radio for more reports because the church has lost the freedom to speak on this issue. Christians need to be more alert to vote on the Bible side because we have already lost too much freedom. We must choose one side or the other. Meanwhile, over on the Daily Hater, an article about Michael Savage’s brief foray into not-worshipping Washington and Reagan brings out the claws:

Michael Savage: Founding fathers ‘were just slave-holding demagogues’

Talk host Michael Savage called the founding fathers “slave-holding demagogues” on his Friday national radio show, telling his listeners he was tired of the right invoking past leaders.

Savage posed the question to his listeners: Would they support a so-called “nationalist” candidate for president that kept in line with his long-standing emphasis on borders, language and culture?

[…]

He continued his attack on the nation’s founders and added former President Ronald Reagan to those he was tired of hearing about, explaining it was time to talk about the here and now.

“Some of them were smart,” he continued. “Some of them were stupid. Some of them were mean. Some of them were good. Some of them had constipation. Let’s stop turning them into gods. Let’s stop turning Ronald Reagan into God. I can’t stand it anymore. I’m sick of it. I need to live here and now. I don’t want to hear any more about men walking around with britches on and wigs. I want to talk about today, now, America. I want a nationalist candidate.”

What other foreign publication is Greenwald “collaborating with”?

Slides reveal Canada’s powerful espionage tool

theglobeandmail.com

“The Globe and Mail has collaborated with the Brazil-based American journalist Glenn Greenwald, based on information obtained from the Snowden documents. Mr. Snowden, who went into hiding in Hong Kong before the first cache of NSA documents was leaked, has been charged by the United States with espionage and theft of government property. Russia has granted him temporary sanctuary.”

Meanwhile, over on the Daily Hater, an article about Michael Savage’s brief foray into not-worshipping Washington and Reagan brings out the claws:

Michael Savage: Founding fathers ‘were just slave-holding demagogues’

Circular firing squads, ahoy!

“I want a national socialist candidate.”

Fixed.

Wheeeee! As of Jan 1 I will actually have health and dental insurance again! Just finished enrolling with ACA and I am celebrating with some serious happy dancing and a glass of merlot. I haven’t had health insurance for over 2 years after I was so rude to get cancer and cost the company for the policy I was paying high premiums WITH a high deductible for so they dropped me. Anyone in my presence who runs down the ACA will get quite a lecture on their idiocy and just plain meanness for wanting people like me to just fuck off and die slowly and painfully. The relief I’m feeling right now cannot be adequately expressed. Thanks Obama and Dems for this incredible gift!

This, right here, is the #1 reason I support the ACA. I can’t stand people who think that sick people shouldn’t be covered by health insurance.

It’s in there—

Savage posed the question to his listeners: Would they support a so-called “nationalist” candidate for president that kept in line with his long-standing emphasis on borders, language and culture?

There were a few minor glitches but nothing at all onerous. I will say that their Live Chat staff appears to be worthless but then I’ve never really found ANY Live Chat staff anywhere to know squat enough to really help. The biggest problem is a lack of detail on especially dental policies making it tough to know what I’m really getting.

I’m in Texas. Self-explanatory. Sign up was a bit frustrating at one point but as it turned out that booger was entirely unnecessary - something the Live Chat person could have told me but maybe didn’t know. Other than that one thing it was really very easy. I have no complaints at all. At age 60 and having had cancer I’m getting both health (silver) and dental (high) for $201.97/mo!

The anti ACA forces aren’t just a dying demographic, their opposition to ACA is only hastening their demise. There are people so opposed to anything associated with Obamacare, that they’re going to deliberately go without coverage, and the lack of preemptive care is going to kill many of them. The lack of dental care is going to kill many of them. The refusal of many red states to expand their Medicaid programs is going to drive the cost of healthcare up for everyone else in those states, and since so many poor red staters support Republicans, it’s going to kill many of them.

They’re doing everything in their own worst interests.

OT: I hate Windows 8 with the fury of a 1000 suns

I’ve just spent the last hour and half fixing a computer problem for my MIL, who unfortunately is running Window 8.

Now I wasn’t a big fan of this OS in the first place, BUT when I realized today how much of a pain in the ass it is to get to Safe Mode, I must conclude Microsoft is mind numbingly stupid.

In Win 8, you can’t use the F8 trick anymore to boot in safe mode. Nope, in order to get to Safe Mode, you have to boot Windows NORMALLY (yes you read that right), then navigate your way into an obscure menu, THEN drop down a few more menus to finally find the safe mode access options.

On the plus side, I did manage to fix the problem.

.

The last good version was 2000. I really liked NT 3.51. Much of VMS at it’s core and really really solid. But then they stuffed the video drivers into kernel ring and NT 4 was a fubar mess. They cleaned it up considerably for 2k but then went into Apple chasing mode ever since.

My old Dell has XP Home on it for my son and my wife’s laptop has 7 on it. Both are my nightmares. I’d rather find Calvin & Hobbes time machine and go back to supporting Xenix 286 than deal with windows ever again.
