Since we’re continuing Halloween stuffs, I’m bringing this up from downstairs.

Dent Schoolhouse in Greater Cincinnati is apparently the # 2 haunt attraction in the US, and my niece is one of the ten stellar makeup artists working there. Cincinnati TV station WCPO has a picture gallery.

Niece is the one with green hair and many facial piercings, but she is an amazing makeup artist and in great demand.

And yes, I’m a proud auntie.

TODD STARNES’ AMERICAN DISPATCH: Controversial manual used by the military to train its Equal Opportunity officers — and obtained exclusively by Fox News — teaches that ‘healthy, white, heterosexual, Christian’ men hold an unfair advantage over other races, and warns about a so-called ‘White Male Club.’

Today’s Rush Limbaugh show was pretty much a wall-to-wall infomercial for his new children’s book (because who knows kids better, right?) complete with clearly bogus fan mail from young people who devoured the book since its release 48 hours ago and just had to let El Rushbo know how much they loved it!

If you think this sounds bad, it was worse.

OT (but hey, this is the internet!), but anyone have experience with a dog with Idiopathic Vestibular Syndrome? Not DIRECT experience, obviously…

Our old (as in we adopted her as an adult in 1996) Eskie gave a “Yife!” and collapsed in the hall this morning. We found her sprawled on the floor, unable to stand. Her eyes kept moving, reminded me of when I was a kid and I’d spin in circles to make myself dizzy and when I stopped my eyes kept turning.

Mrs. Jockey was sure this was ‘It’, and we bundled her off to the vet, wrapped in a towel since she kept trying to stand. The Vet looked her over, and he and the Vet assistant set her standing on a non-slip mat, which she managed. He said it happens a lot with older dogs, they don’t know what causes it, but most dogs recover completely.

So that’s how MY Halloween started.

20 Varek Raith  Thu, Oct 31, 2013 3:57:21pm

They Aren’t Serious

House Republicans are demanding(!) answers on Obamacare, but not very many of them are willing to actually show up when presented with an opportunity to get answers.

Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) told reporters that “about 20 members” attended the House GOP briefing, at which senior Health and Human Services Department official Mike Hash laid out some of the issues facing the Healthcare.gov website.

The meeting was scheduled after House Republicans cried foul when they weren’t included in last week’s closed-door session with Democrats.

One may get the idea that all of their ballyhooing was just for show.

Remember that time Republicans failed to show up for a briefing on Benghazi that they demanded? I remember when John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Kelly Ayotte held a press conference to complain about the lack of briefings while the aforementioned briefing was taking place.

Good times.

Scaremongering at its finest. Most every “scary” consequences of the ACA was previously used to describe what would happen if single-payer ever took hold here in the US.

In short, they want to maintain a system that reserves care for those who can pay for it. Want to be at the top of the transplant list? Build a new hospital wing. Want to get your kids major surgery? Stroke out a check for a donation. Want to avoid long lines for a new life-saving drug? Pull strings in hospital administration.

I wish I didn’t have to post this next link, but if I don’t someone else likely will:

Ted Cruz Tells Trayvon Martin’s Mother Sybrina Fulton That ‘Stand Your Ground’ Laws Aren’t Racist (Video)

At a Senate hearing on “stand your ground” laws, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz told Trayon Martin’s mother that the laws are not racist.

Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton testified that the “stand your ground” laws don’t work and should be changed, according to Fox News.

“I just wanted to come here to … let you know how important it is that we amend this stand your ground because it certainly did not work in my case,” Fulton said, speaking without consulting prepared remarks. “The person that shot and killed my son is walking the streets today. This law does not work.”

The Blaze reports that Cruz offered his condolences to Fulton and then told her that the self-defense laws are not racist because they help blacks as much as whites, if not more. According to The Atlantic Wire, Cruz stated:

“The chairman of this committee, a moment ago, made a remarkable statement that to the effect that no one could reasonably believe that ‘stand your ground’ laws protect those in the African-American communities who are victims of violent crimes. I think that is a remarkable statement on many, many fronts, including the fact that a great many African-Americans find themselves victims of violent crime, and have asserted this defense to defend themselves, defend their families, defend their children.”

He might not intend to give his current role up. He might run aiming simply to make a big DERPy splash and spike his book sales, then take a dive in the fall by ‘standing firm’ on some point that alienates most voters.

The question is: “Does David Barton actually believe the bullshit he spews?”

The answer? Because a lot of people in the GOP *do* believe the bullshit he spews. It’s endemic in your party, from the local to the national levels.

I hope it’s a church with a cemetery. A sign like that at a cemetery would just be weird.

Well if it’s a church their 501(c)(3) status should be audited.

Yep. Nephew is Zombie Doctor, asking people who answer the door if they want some Obamacare.

Sigh/LOL

re: #76 FemNaziBitch

I just got my first Tricker or Treaters!!!! 4 girls. All dead.

The Big Wave came through about 45 minutes ago - about 15 kids. The best one was a little guy, who refused the candy I tried to hand to him, insisting upon picking his own out of the bowl.

His dad and I got a good laugh out of that one. I gave him the ones I had in my hand for good measure.

Got a half of a big bowl of candy left over. Equal parts Nerds, Laffy Taffy, SweeTarts and Reese’s.

re: #83 Witches BaBOOshka

It looks like that sign is in a cemetery, maybe they are calling all wingnut zombies.

It’s one of those make-it-yourself signs. See the first one here. I didn’t find the site where you can make ‘em.

re: #90 Witches BaBOOshka

That is a point. But why would a cemetery have a helpful sign like that? Looks like what schools have (or had before they all got those stupid electronic ones), but what kind of school has a cemetery attached? (Please do not answer that question.)

This is the same photo but a different church name so one or both of them are shopped.

I had no trick-or-treaters. Maybe the kids are afraid to come up to the 13th floor where I live, or most likely, they think the apartment is still vacant.

Oh well……candy for me.

The question is: “Does David Barton actually believe the bullshit he spews?”

I’m fairly certain he doesn’t believe his own BS. A good rule of thumb is that people smart enough to cover their tracks are also smart enough to know they’re full of shit. Michael Moore and Breitbart carefully edit videos to remove information and context that doesn’t support their agenda. Partisan cable news shows carefully select information that supports their side because they know what they’re doing. A dope who really believes something is more likely to have an open debate because they’re unaware of how wrong they are, not so much with a smart liar.

Oh man just got one of those very scary phone calls. And not Halloween. D_L went to visit her mom who fell once. D_L helped her up, No injuries, Later today she falls again. D_L goes to help her up, gets her part way up and they both hear a snap, her mom goes down hard taking D_L with her. Paramedics, ambulance, MIL admitted D_L just has a pulled muscle. FIL is already in bad shape I fear he may just fold under the pressure of not having his wife around for even a short time.

Stressful days already for other reasons. Gotta find my calm.

Why oh why didn’t I take my phone with me when I bopped around the corner to Walgreens?

A Jaguar F-type convertible came squealing into the parking lot, over-corrected several times trying to straighten out before braking to a halt and then rapidly nosed into a parking space.

The driver overshot the parking bumper and that hideous fiberglass and metal on concrete noise resulted. The driver then backed up several feet resulting in even more noise followed by the entire lower air dam below the grill separating from the car (and grill damage).

Finally the driver gets out and is revealed as a women about 5’ 2” tall and weighing about 270lbs. To say that she looked like a bowling ball with a head and stubby legs is perhaps a cruel assessment, but an accurate one unfortunately.

She is looking down at the parking bumper and the detached plastic from her car and cursing a non-stop blue streak that would make a sailor blush. Then goes back to her car, grabs her purse and stomps off to the store entrance.

I was leaving (and I didn’t have my phone to film it) so whatever happened afterwards is left to the imagination. Damn, that was totally a three million (plus?) hit video if I had been able to grab it for YouTube…

Oh well, It was still highly entertaining to watch in person at least…

Several years ago, I was driving home from work and a car which was in the left lane, cut across three lanes of traffic to get to an exit.

It also cut off a police car.

That was some Russian dash cam driving, there.
