Plagiarist Rand Paul’s Column Moves to Breitbart

“We are pleased to add Senator Paul to our lineup of fearless, original thought leaders,” said Larry Solov

Sen. Rand Paul’s weekly column, axed from The Washington Times this week after plagiarism allegations, has already found a new outlet.

The conservative media outlet Breitbart News announced on Wednesday that Paul, the Kentucky tea party favorite and possible 2016 Republican presidential contender, would become the newest contributor amid its recent “period of exponential growth.”

“We are pleased to add Senator Paul to our lineup of fearless, original thought leaders,” said Larry Solov, CEO of Breitbart News. “Most of all, we think the fighting spirit he has become known for is a perfect fit for Breitbart News Network and reflects that of our founder, Andrew Breitbart.”

Well they hire people who edit videos to make people look like they’re saying one thing. So is it really a shocker that they’d hire a serial plagiarist who just happens to be a sweetheart of the TP? And I just noticed your original thought quote hahahahaha. Sorry but hahahhaha.

So, does this elevate Ben Shapiro or demote Rand Paul? Or is it a lateral move?

From today’s appearance of the heads of Britain’s security services before the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament:

bbc.co.uk

1511: MI6 chief Sir John Sawers says Edward Snowden’s leaks “have been damaging and they have put our operations at risk”.

1513: Sir John Sawers’ comments came after GCHQ director Sir Iain Lobban said covert surveillance of terror groups in the Middle East, Afghanistan and south-east Asia had captured them discussing communications packages they use - and what they wish to move to - as a result of media coverage of the Snowden leaks. “We have seen chat around specific terrorist groups discussing how to avoid what they now perceive to be vulnerable,” he says.

bbc.co.uk

MI6 chief Sir John Sawers warned the politicians that “our adversaries were rubbing their hands with glee” in the wake of the Snowden revelations, adding: “The leaks from Snowden have been very damaging, they’ve put our operations at risk”.

GCHQ chief Sir Iain Lobban said activists in the Middle East and “closer to home” had been monitored discussing ways of switching away from communications they “now perceived as vulnerable”.

It’s a classic debate tactic, set the situation such that a “fact” cannot be proven untrue without revealing compromising information. Since government officials are bound by law not to reveal details of programs that have been damaged by Greenwald’s “facts,” he can simply shrug and say they’ve done nothing to show he’s caused any harm.

Sen. Owen Hill: ‘We already have someone from Kenya as President of the United States’

Speaking at a Denver County Republican breakfast last week, state Sen. Owen Hill commented that the country already has “someone from Kenya as President of the United States.”

The audio recorded remarks, first reported by BuzzFeed, were as follows:

You spend time out there [in a Kenyan slum] and little kids are running around barefoot in these kinds of streets and you ask them what they want to be, they want to be an astronaut, they want to be a physicist, a marine biologist, one kid even told me he wanted to be President of the United States. I held back my snarky comment that said ‘Well, you know what, we already have someone from Kenya as President of the United States.’

Hill, a Air Force Academy graduate, was speaking about his time in Kenya when he did work for Compassion International. A Republican from Colorado Springs, Hill is among several Republicans vying to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Udall in 2014.

“The fact that my obvious joke is being highlighted today just shows how worried Mark Udall and the Democrats actually are of my campaign for the U.S. Senate here in Colorado,” Hill said in a statement Thursday. “These are the typical sleazy tactics used by Mark Udall’s radical operatives who are scared of losing their go to guy in Washington DC.”

This is roughly equal to Wilma at her height.

Especially since research in the past few years has shown that Wilma’s Top SUstained Winds may have been underestimated.

A paper in 2012 said this:

“At last week’s 30th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology of the American Meteorological Society, Dr. Eric Uhlhorn of NOAA’s Hurricane Research Division presented a poster that looked at the relationship between surface winds measured by the SFMR instrument and flight-level winds in two Category 5 storms. Hurricane Hunter flights done into Category 5 Supertyphoon Megi (17 October 2010) and Category 5 Hurricane Felix (03 September 2007) found that the surface winds measured by SFMR were greater than those measured at flight level (10,000 feet.) Usually, surface winds in a hurricane are 10 - 15% less than at 10,000 feet, but he showed that in super-intense Category 5 storms with small eyes, the dynamics of these situations may generate surface winds that are as strong or stronger than those found at 10,000 feet. He extrapolated this statistical relationship (using the inertial stability measured at flight level) to Hurricane Wilma of 2005, which was the strongest hurricane on record (882 mb), but was not observed by the SFMR. He estimated that the maximum wind averaged around the eyewall in Wilma at peak intensity could have been 209 mph, plus or minus 20 mph—so conceivably as high as 229 mph, with gusts to 270 mph.”

85 ProTARDISLiberal  Thu, Nov 7, 2013 11:03:06am

re: #83 darthstar

True. However, I thing the SSHS may not be the best indicator of power.

Sandy may have been a Cat 2/Cat 1 wind-wise when near the US, but it’s central Pressure was akin to a High-End 3/Low-End 4, and it’s storm surge was comparable to a Cat 3. The size compensated for it.

Certainly though, this is one of the most dangerous cyclones in history, High winds, Low Pressure and Great size are combined with this mfer.

170 knots max winds indicated? That’s 195 mph. Enough to ruin all but the most secure structures. A large fetch and you’ve got significant storm surge too.

For all the talk about how the Atlantic Basin has been quiet this season so far (at least as far as hits on the US), the Pacific has seen several monster storms with significant casualties).
