Glad to know that climate change is totally a hoax, because I’d hate to think of what might happen if it were real.

Yes, although not impossible. Obviously.

I will be amazed to watch Rand Paul stand in the way of aid for his own home state.

I mean, it’s possible, but I don’t think he’ll hold to his principles that strongly.

Breitbart News is evidence of one form of exceptionalism, or another.

43 Charles Johnson  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 12:38:44pm

Freaking hilarious!

Palin said the country is exceptional not because we are “pretending like we’re better than anybody else.” Rather, she said America was exceptional because “we’re different.”

“Our government was to be created unlike any other government… to allow individuals equal opportunity to soar, to succeed, to be rewarded for innovation and work ethic … and all of it is was going to be built on freedom,” Palin said.

She then said that “when we see these steps taken”—such as natural birth Nativity scenes and other politically correct scenes gone amok—to erode the country’s traditions, Americans can see what “it is going to be like” when “that freedom is stripped away from us even in that arena of celebrating Christmas.”

“Then we will certainly lose that exceptionalism,” Palin said.

WTF is she talking about.

Sarah, maybe was expecting a C-section?

It’s the standard Palin word salad, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Seriously, I keep hearing wingnuts talk about how the Founders intended everybody to be equal…but did noting to ensure that. It took two amendments to begin to undo the centuries of damage done by slavery, another to give women the right to vote, and we’re likely never to totally undo the damage done to the native tribes.

68 dr. klys  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 1:02:53pm

Speaking of unusual weather, the real reason the NJ/NY area has been spared a hurricane this year is because my parents installed a natural gas whole-house generator.

You’re welcome.

I have been trying to get my dad to do the same for his house.

70 dr. klys  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 1:07:07pm

re: #69 PhillyPretzel

I have been trying to get my dad to do the same for his house.

With Irene, the whole “power required for the sump pump issue” became important (it was less so for Sandy) but then with Sandy, the whole “furnace may be natural gas but it doesn’t do much if the fans won’t run” aspect I think finally tipped the balance.

I checked it out when I was home, and it wasn’t too bad. Kind of big and ugly but that’s what the side of the house is for, and the neighbors won’t complain because it means they will be able to run an extension cord instead of scrambling to find gas. It ended up being cheaper than Dad had originally thought it would be too.

71 PhillyPretzel  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 1:08:50pm

re: #70 klys

The last time my dad lost power he lost the contents of the fridge. So far he still has not bought the generator.

72 dr. klys  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 1:10:17pm

re: #71 PhillyPretzel

My parents came very close to losing the *freezer* (let alone the contents) in Irene. Three inches of water in the basement before they could get the sump pump hooked up to the neighbor’s generator, and the freezer is pretty much three inches off the floor. (Most things in the basement are, which isn’t finished, thank god.)

73 urbanmeemaw  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 4:44:53pm

Just heard unofficial total of 60 tornadoes throught the midwest today, which is an unconfirmed record for tornadoes in a single day. Most of the storm activity in my area (Cincinnati) was south, east and west of the city proper. The roof of a restaurant in Newport, KY (about 6 miles from me) was destroyed; awaiting confirmation if it was caused by tornado, Winds and rain have died down in my area (6 minutes from downtown). Stay safe, all.
