Sarah Palin’s Word Salad of the Day Mixes American Exceptionalism and the War on Christmas

“Even in that arena of celebrating Christmas”
Wingnuts • Views: 26,356

Here’s the dullard from Wasilla’s latest unsuccessful attempt to put concepts into sentences and have them make actual sense, as she praises the extreme right wing loons at breitbart.com for fighting (unflinchingly!) to preserve “American exceptionalism,” whatever that is (Sarah’s pretty unclear herself).

This delectable word salad mixes Breitbart, American exceptionalism and the War on Christmas and tosses it all with just enough paranoid wingnut dressing. Nom nom.

At breitbart.com there’s an audio file of this hilarious deluge of verbiage, but I won’t inflict that upon you, dear reader: Palin: Breitbart News Fighting to Preserve America’s Exceptionalism.

Palin said the country is exceptional not because we are “pretending like we’re better than anybody else.” Rather, she said America was exceptional because “we’re different.”

“Our government was to be created unlike any other government… to allow individuals equal opportunity to soar, to succeed, to be rewarded for innovation and work ethic … and all of it is was going to be built on freedom,” Palin said.

She then said that “when we see these steps taken”—such as natural birth Nativity scenes …

Wait a minute. WTF is a “natural birth Nativity scene?” OK, never mind, I know it’s pointless to try to figure this out.

… and other politically correct scenes gone amok—to erode the country’s traditions, Americans can see what “it is going to be like” when “that freedom is stripped away from us even in that arena of celebrating Christmas.”

“Then we will certainly lose that exceptionalism,” Palin said.

She said she fears on “some days we are already on the road toward” decline, and “we will no longer be the America that we recognize.”

“We will be a fundamentally transformed America that so many of us did not sign up for,” Palin warned.

Sarah Palin and breitbart.com are made for each other; they both peddle the same fear-mongering idiocy to fearful idiots. When selling snake oil, the most important thing is just to keep the words flowing. Don’t worry too much about making sense. The rubes don’t care.

And the very first comment demonstrates the level of the audience they’re shooting for:

Breitbart fighting for America. Thus, Breitbart fighting Obama and his unexceptional, but wildly dangerous and traitorous, Communist party and sympathizers.,

I didn’t sign up for anything Sister Sarah. We are Americans by birth. Jingoism comes later.

That’s because you have more than two functional brain cells to rub together.

In order to fully understand Caribou Barbie’s gibberish, you’d need a meth addiction or a lobotomy. Or 24/7 exposure to Fox News.

No, I think she’s on to something here-I want to sign up for just the America I want to live in. I should be able to specify things like my income, amount of socialism, my neighbors’ religion, etc. ‘cause we’re I’m special.

1. I suspect that the private Palin is economical with her choice of words, as in What’s in it for me?

2. People who rant about America’s Judeo-Christian!! heritage rarely if ever mention the Greco-Roman influence. Not to mention the possible influence of indigenous polities like the Iroquois Confederation. Let alone pagan savages /// like Confucius, the Buddha, or the authors of the Tao Te Ching and Bhagavad Gita.

Gilbert Davila: This book captures the heart of Christmas. It tells us all that how important it is to preserve this multi-billion dollar holiday. My liberal neighbors and friends here in Los Angeles decorate their homes and shop like crazy every Christmas, but I know that it is just a facade. They really are plotting against Christmas. The shopping and decorating is just to blend in like the 9/11 terrorists. Thank you Mrs. Palin for writing this book and thank you Senator McCain for bringing her into the limelight.

Food stamp use up sharply in Mississippi

Many American families will be facing Thanksgiving with a smaller food budget.

Benefits shrank an average of 5 percent for the more than 46 million people who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program after an economic-stimulus package expired Nov. 1.

On the Coast, that affects many more people than it did a few years ago.

In Harrison and Hancock counties, the number of people in the program has more than doubled since 2007 and nearly doubled in Jackson County.

Harrison County had the greatest increase in SNAP participation in the state — up 119 percent — from pre-recession 2007 to 2013, according to reports by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. And all three counties ranked in the top five for increased participation rates. George and Pearl River counties made the top 10.

And wouldn’t you know it? Harrison county just happens to be one of the most Republican leaning counties in the ENTIRE COUNTRY.

Things that make you go hmmm…

Our Magickal thinking society having a real hard time with the idea that they can’t have their special ways anymore?

Time is passing and the traditional-minded late Protestant fundamentalism just isn’t cutting it anymore.

I’m thinking all this sort of whining - Palin and Fischer etc. - is a sign they know they’ll be losing their customer base over the next decade, as they pass away.

Glenn Beck reinvented himself into a religious Art Bell type and has had more success but I think even his time will pass soon for his special style of Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mormonism.

Finally after millennia of trying to get to the crux of our human condition, a mind of ultimate wisdom powered by a voice of persuasive eloquence brings us the single greatest work to come out of the Western tradition. When you were sleep-walking through school and wondering what was the point of all those hard books — why read Aristotle, why read Sartre, why read Shakespeare? Well, here is the answer. All of those lesser lights were preparing us for this. My only regret is that I have now experienced the highest point of my intellectual life without having prepared myself adequately for it. I will need to revisit the entire Western canon and re-read and re-imagine each classic in light of this truly greatest of classics. What the name “Einstein” meant for the 20th Century as an icon for ultimate intelligence, the name “Palin” will mean for this and for every succeeding century as the ultimate in human achievement. I thank God that I walk the earth in the same era as this greatest of the great. The Palin Era is upon us.

When you link your Twitter account to LGF, it actually does not use or need to know your password. It uses a token-based system to grant access. I don’t think that had anything to do with it. Sounds like Twitter detected somehow that your account had been broken into, maybe?

The hackers probably changed his password. It’s usually the first step when an account is compromised, so the original owner can’t get back into it.

51 thedopefishlives  Sun, Nov 17, 2013 1:51:03pm

This is why proper account security systems need to involve something known to belong to the owner whenever a major account property - registered email account, password, etc. - is changed. Phone-based security is excellent, but if even an email is sent to the registered address before the address can be changed or the password reset, it is a major step up from the “Oh, yeah, your password is reset, if you didn’t do it you need to contact us” free-for-all.

Well, part of the question is how secure the password is too. Most of us don’t have very good password practices (I include myself in this list) and cracking passwords has become much easier with the ability to apply GPU cycles to it. I mean, they know the log-in name - that’s the account name. So they just have to figure out the password, and I don’t know what Twitter’s security measures surrounding multiple attempts is.

That will help. Does Twitter have anything resembling a “Send a code to my phone whenever someone tries to log in” feature? That’s more or less two-factor authentication, and it’s at least more secure than just a username and password.

I took 12 pounds off earlier this year, went to a 2 a week “Light Fast” (600 - 800 calories on the fast days). Did it on 2 non-consecutive days (for me Mon and Thur were the best). Weight came off, no stress or fussing.

I still maintain something like that, now doing just 1 day a week on average. I’m probably going to start eating a bit more now, getting ready to start training for RAGBRAI so I am going to be burning a bunch more cals.

That kind of approach can be remarkably successful. Some people do it every-other day: half the normal calories. Others do a complete fast a couple of days a week. If you’re willing to maintain that lifestyle for a few months it does ad up.

I keep my weight in check - even while being a chocoholic - by having a few days here and there with a 1000 Calories or less.

My grandparents’ house had a very near miss with a tornado in 2000. They lost the tin off the roof and so the house still had to be gutted, but at least it was still standing (which was more than could be said for the old barn and a few other outbuildings).

Some of the tin was completely wrapped around nearby trees. May still even be there.

In 1965, a tornado waltzed through the fishfolks’ hometown (not too far from where they live now, in point of fact) and right past my mother’s house. 30 years to the day later, another tornado followed the exact same path through the town. You really can’t make this stuff up sometimes.

I think there is something to the paths they take. Particularly when they form off of rivers. Thankfully, they usually only form right above us (fun to watch!) then shoot out east with all of the velocity the massive clouds above us can muster. I-70 highway, tornado alley.

Speaking of the UNFCCC, the newswire stories are rather somber on the whole thing:

Tense final stretch for UN climate talks after tumultuous first week

U.N. climate talks head into a tense final week Monday after the diplomatic effort to reduce global warming gases was hit by a series of setbacks, including Japan’s decision to ditch its voluntary emissions target.

[…]

Instead, Australia’s conservative government fulfilled a campaign promise and introduced a bill to scrap the country’s carbon tax, while Japan drastically scaled back its emissions target.

The moves drew criticism from developing countries who say the world’s rich countries have a historical responsibility for climate change and should take the lead in fighting it.

“We need to be very concerned with individual actions of developed countries that are backtracking (on) their commitments,” said Brazilian negotiator Jose Marcondes de Carvalho.

Most Australian economists agree that the country cannot achieve its voluntary target of reducing emissions by 5 percent by 2020 without industry paying a price on carbon.

Japan said its initial target of reducing emissions by 25 percent from 1990 levels was unrealistic. Following the 2011 accident at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant, Japan shut all its nuclear plants for safety checks and had to shift back to power coming from coal, oil and gas, all of which are heavy on CO2 emissions. Japan’s new target represents a 3 percent increase over 1990 emissions.

Brazil, too, delivered bad news at the talks when it reported that annual destruction of its Amazon rainforest jumped by 28 percent after four straight years of declines.

[…]

One reason why I am a “doomer” on AGW has very much to do with that last paragraph. As populations continue to grow the remaining large forests will be cleared out, at least in part. There may be noble efforts to preserve them, and maybe Brazil will be able to even protect several millions of acres of the Amazon, but much more will be mowed down, not only in Brazil but in the surrounding countries. There has been a concerted world-wide effort to stop deforestation and while there has been some progress it is more or less just a slowing of the destruction.

Our global set of national bodies politic just can’t operate on a scale to change the economic system that depends upon extraction of resources long secure.

I’m not saying you should listed to her speech, but if you do you’ll notice that she didn’t mention natural birth nativity scenes or even obliquely refer to them. That little bit appears to come entirely from Tony Lee, the author of the article.

Also, my gut is telling me that “natural birth” is code for nativity scenes that depict a dark skinned Jesus. The term politically correct only starts to make sense in this context.

You know, that actually makes sense. It’s an article of faith for some of these nutbags — literally — that Jesus was a blue eyed, fair skinned, white baby. Any nativity that deviates from that would be “unnatural” for these lunatics.

Nah, mostly they work fine for years if you don’t overtax the well/aquifer capacity. Having a pressurized bladder type holding tank means the pump is not cycling on and off every single time you open and close a tap to fill a glass of water (allows the pump to last much longer).

However, if you have a cabin on the North side on the Suwanee river in Florida then the well water is full of “rust” and looks and tastes nasty. It is ok to shower in but you can’t wash clothes in it (unless you want them to be orange) and most people don’t want to drink it either.

(Funny thing, all the springs on the North side of the river are full of oxidized iron, while all the springs on the south side are crystal clear)

My husband could give you a detailed account of why the odds of rain have increased, but it is still quite possible that it will all go north of us, and therefore, north of you too.

My husband did an excellent job of choosing the most boring location for weather in the Bay Area. Our only claim to extremes is extreme heat.

The article said foul play not suspected, but they’re investigating, so who knows for sure?

It was probably just the Clintons trying out their assassination teams before the 2016 election season gets under way. They need to be sure that their operatives can still make premeditated murder successfully appear as a suicide like they did with Vince Foster.

1965, a tornado waltzed through the fishfolks’ hometown (not too far from where they live now, in point of fact) and right past my mother’s house. 30 years to the day later, another tornado followed the exact same path through the town. You really can’t make this stuff up sometimes.

Was that on May 6, 1965? I ended up in our basement in a Mpls suburb with my newborn son that day - a day I will always remember.

Like, I won’t lie. I’m sort of picturing a nativity now where Mary is in the process of giving birth.

I could imagine wingnuts being offended by that, because LADY PARTS.

In the ‘Natural Birth Nativity Scenes, Mary’s naked, because she’s too hot. She’s dripping with sweat, and her hair’s plastered to her head. Her skin is pale, but her face and upper chest are deep red. Her lips are pulled back in a snarl, with her eyes squeezed tight shut. The cloth under her is covered in blood, amniotic fluid, pee, and poop. Joseph’s holding her hand and trying not to scream because she’d crushing his hand. She’s told him he’s never getting near her with that thing again. He’s smart enough not to mention that he hasn’t gotten near her with it yet.

Angels are standing by, but they’re no fucking use, because they don’t reproduce this way.

No shepherds or wise men, because they timed it so they’d miss the messy part.

Personally, I prefer the ‘Mary gets an epidural’ nativity scene.

Raving loon Wayne Madsen is ON IT.

No longer content to ignore press reports about its activities, the NSA, which has refined the concept of “offensive information warfare” into actual practice, relies on a cadre of three professors within the U.S. Naval War College’s National Security Affairs department, also called “NSA,” to carry the signal intelligence agency’s water in launching attacks on critics of NSA and journalists who write about the agency.

The favorite tool for this NSA media “war room” operation on the banks of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay is Twitter. Whether the target is journalist Glenn Greenwald, this editor, Representative Justin Amash (R-MI), former Vice President Al Gore, and the handful of NSA whistleblowers who have come forward, including Snowden, the War College’s “NSA” troika of professors—former National Security Agency officer John Schindler and his two sycophantic assistants, Tom Nichols and Stephen Knott—enlist the aid of a committed group of Twitter “followers” to launch vicious attacks against any and all comers. Their followers range from Charles Johnson of the peculiar website “Little Green Footballs,” who is a washed up former band member for the group “Chicago,” to former Tory member of the British Parliament Louise Mensch, whose only claim to fame is resigning amid the Rupert Murdoch phone tapping scandal.

Me too. I had gotten one of their updates just before the storms came through central Ohio. I had to shut down FF twice and the third time seemed to be working. They must have had some Gremlins still working away rewriting code to update or something. I was about ready to go over to Chrome.

The storms are finished around here. Looks like this part of Ohio got away without much damage and drama. Some reports of maybe a few small touch-downs north and south of the populated metro area and hit the farming areas to the east, but not like Illinois and Indiana today. Luckily I think the darkness came and sapped some of the heat and allowed us to get by.

“We will be a fundamentally transformed America that so many of us did not sign up for,”

Here’s the difference between Palin and the TP/GOP on one side and Dems, liberals, moderates, secularists, etc on the other side. She fears this transformation; we embrace it. Because we realize that the US is ALWAYS in a state of transformation. Whether it’s extending civil rights for minorities, a changing ethnic/religious dynamic, a black president, new social roles for men and women, same sex marriage, a multi-religious society with more non-Christians, whatever. Palin and her regressive cohort fear these changes. But many of us don’t fear these things; we approve, or at least accept, such change. Not only because we see such change as increasing social justice. But also because we know that change is a constant part of the American experience. The primary fallacy that Palinites cling to is the fantasy of a static America. It’s never been that way, and it never will be. A static America isn’t even consistent with the melting pot ideal we at least pretend to espouse.

Speaking of genealogy, what’s kept me so busy has been filling in 3rd cousins on the family tree. It turns out many of my 1st and 2nd cousins of a century or so ago were quite fecund, having litters of a dozen or so, which means I have a lot of people to run down here in the 21st century.

I found a grandmother who was kicked out of New Amsterdam for insulting a tavern owner. Her first husband was a pirate. After she was allowed to return to NEw york, my grandfather and she lived far from the forts in the wilderness, most likely selling home made hooch to N.A. Indians.

re: #95 freetoken

Speaking of the UNFCCC, the newswire stories are rather somber on the whole thing:

Tense final stretch for UN climate talks after tumultuous first week

I’m afraid this goes through my mind every time I read anything about climate change these days.

re: #102 ausador

What. Da. Fuc?

As opposed to un-natural birth nativity scenes?

How does a nativity scene by itself portray either immaculate conception or mundane conception?

I mean you have a baby in a manager with Mary and Joseph and the Wise Men standing around along with some farm animals. If you have seen one nativity scene you have seen them all, in short…

WHAT THE HELL IS SHE EVEN TALKING ABOUT?

Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this. But since “natural birth nativity scenes” has roused our collective curiosity, let me see if I can shed some light on Palin’s mental processes.

She’s very bitter and angry, and practically always, for Sarah, this causes her to want to make other people angry. Misery loves company.

She’s also good at staying “on-message”, and she has enough awareness to know that what she’s doing now is selling a Christmas book. So, she’ll stay very focused on everything Christmas.

Like a nativity scene. But as always, her “prime directive” is Must.Spread.Anger. In particular, Must.Spread.Anger.Against.Liberals.

So, like a Rorschach test, when “nativity scene” enters her mind (as it will, because she’s so focused on all things Christmas), her mind responds with a narrative about how Those Evil Liberals are attacking, undermining, disrespecting, defiling, nativity scenes. And how to liberals do that? Often, in her mind, liberals introduce something that’s “politically correct”. I guess in Sarah’s mind, “natural childbirth” sounds like something that’s “politically correct”.

Voila. She’s on-message about Christmas, and thought of a nativity scene. She thought of something politically correct (natural childbirth) that somehow relates to a nativity (birth) scene. And now for what really matters to her, really all she gets off on, spreading her anger to other people. Don’t ya just hate it when those evil libruls from New York display a natural childbirth nativity scene. They think they’re improving on the Bible! We don’t need your political correctness!

To illustrate the above mental process with a different word salad, this one hypothetical (she hasn’t produced this word salad yet, as far as I know): I wouldn’t be surprised to see her produce a similar word salad about compact-fluorescent Christmas tree lights. Because, you see, compact-fluorescent bulbs use less energy, so they’re a “green” technology, which sounds vaguely liberal, so “we the people” are under attack by liberals who desecrate our Christmas trees, in the sanctity of our homes, with their wimpy compact-fluorescent lights.

She is one scary person.

205 Wile E. Wonka  Mon, Nov 18, 2013 11:08:04am

Hi, I’m still lurking, just busy with a new baby and stuff. *grin*

And I hate to spoil the party, but it looks like the whole “natural birth nativity scene” thing is just a Freudian slip on the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s “Natural Nativity Scene” send-up display at the Wisconsin Capitol.

ffrf.org

Now in its second year, apparently. The FFRF seems to have won the right to erect the display, as a way for the courts to allow a religious Christian nativity display at the Capitol without violating the Establishment Clause.

It gets a mention in Palin’s book, of course.

Meanwhile, I do totally think “natural birth nativity scene” is a phrase that somebody needs (needs) to whisper in Margaret Cho’s ear.
