As the right wing’s bizarre fixation on Benghazi continues unabated, 60 Minutes anchor Lara Logan is being placed on “leave of absence,” following her ridiculously bogus report.

Lara Logan and a producer, Max McClellan, involved with a flawed “60 Minutes” report on Benghazi that drew criticism will both take a leave of absence from CBS News, according to an internal memo from CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager issued Tuesday.

“As Executive Producer, I am responsible for what gets on the air. I pride myself in catching almost everything, but this deception got through and it shouldn’t have,” Fager said in a memo to staff. “When faced with a such an error, we must use it as an opportunity to make our broadcast even stronger. We are making adjustments at 60 Minutes to reduce the chances of it happening again.”

I have generally been a fan of Lara Logan’s reporting in the past, but she has some major credibility issues now as well as a possible conflict of interest regarding her husband (which became a huge issue at CBS when Catie Couric found out she had been having an affair with a married man while on assignment in Iraq. Couric was said to be furious that she would tarnish her credentials and those of CBS)

I hope she has learned something from this.

And it wasn’t just that man (who is currently her husband) but also an affair with Michael Ware, allegedly along with the married man at the same time, when she herself was still married to someone else, though she claims they were separated. I suppose if you were in Iraq or Afghanistan and he was stateside, you would technically be “separated”.

Current hubby is a military contractor from TX and was doing that work at the time as well in Iraq.

Dead thread? I just had the most pleasant visit with a lady friend from Norman. Can you believe I’ve been here 3 years? I’ve been blessed to meet such good people here in Oklahoma. The hugs can’t be long enough.
We had such a nice visit.. We have mutual interests in Arts, So I gave her a bunch of stuff I’m not moving.. I blew her mind..I’ve had this glass tulip lamp with so many leaves wrapped in paper for years..It is huge and I can’t think of a soul I know that wouldn’t shine up and treat with care. With sadness there is a strange joy in my heart.. I took big mirrors off the wall and put them in her SUV. She got my Marilyn Monroe picture taken in NYC with the skyline lite by tiny little lights for Times Square. Most fucking awesome picture I have ever seen. It’s not going to the North Woods with me..
God..I love some of my friends here in Oklahoma.. 16 days and counting..

It’s strange… this entire 60 Minutes spectacle happened for no rational reason, but simply because the three syllables “Benghazi” became a “meme”, a right-wing “talking point”, maybe “chanting point” is more accurate.

There was never any “there” to the “Benghazi scandal”, there still is no “there”, and yet it remains a disembodied meme, floating around, capable of popping into consciousness at any time, like a meditation mantra.

So I really can’t have any sympathy for 60 minutes, or the people involved, over this. There was never any proper story for them to put on the air, as far as any “scandal” was concerned. Of course, the original story, of mob violence and four American deaths, was and is unspeakably tragic. It should have been covered from the beginning with respect for the facts and respect for the dignity of the fallen.
