Mike Huckabee Labels Lara Logan a ‘Hero Journalist’ for Discredited Benghazi Report

Wingnuts • Views: 26,784

On Wednesday morning, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade asked Huckabee to respond to the news that Logan had been effectively suspended indefinitely from 60 Minutes.

“Very shocked,” Huckabee said. “And I think that the fact is that we’re missing the big story here. We still don’t know what happened in Benghazi. Our government lied to us, they covered it up.”

“Lara Logan is certainly a hero journalist to at least attempt to get the story out,” he added.

A hero who is not going be deterred by any facts that contradict the Talking Points

Does Huck remember that FNC passed on this ‘story’ because they knew it was likely a lie, or does he just not care?

So I would be a hero for pointing out Huckabee has been associated with stolen copyrighted material in the past?

“She’s a hero for trying to get the truth out there, even if the truth turned out to be a lie!”

And what is this “We still don’t know what happened!” noise? I think what he really means is that there’s not been any evidence of anything that Obama or Clinton did that was egregiously wrong. And since Obama’s the Antichrist, and HRC is the Anti-Mary, there MUST BE something!!!

Each time I want to smack our Dems for lack of fortitude and “gumption”, one of these mealymouthed opportunists from the Right steps up and stiffens my resolve for them all over again and assures me that while I may not be entirely pleased with my Dem representatives, these guys on the right would have no issues turning us into The Handmaid’s Tale and the media would raise nary an eyebrow as long as the ad buys keep showing up on time.

I believe that the whole Right Wing is terribly upset that none of their “Fill-in-the-blank-gates” ever pans out. It drives them nuts that they can’t seem to find Obama’s Kryptonite, because they’re DEAD CERTAIN that he MUST have done, or be doing something truly horrible.

This is why you hear them talking about impeachment, but the charges they talk about aren’t actual charges, but rather the names of scandals, without specifying what crime Obama may have committed for which they have any evidence.

It’s driven them to cling like limpets to anything even remotely negative, in the forlorn hope that it will turn out to be The Answer To the Ultimate Question Of Life, The Universe, And Everything The Key To Obama’s Downfall, and to make every single thing into The Worst Thing Since Slavery Hitler Stalin Mao The Holocaust New Coke Ever.

Logan might technically meet the definition of “hero journalist” (whatever that means) if one takes the position that the purpose of journalism is to steer the conversation, not to actually present facts. She did a fine job of the former.

I see no evidence that the Fox crowd, and a very sizable wing of the Republican Party, would disagree with that position,

Ahem.

FOX passed on paying the dude. Adam Housley, the reporter who worked with “Morgan Jones” has explicitly said that Davies/Jones’ story confirms the reporting on Benghazi that FOX was already doing, and hasn’t retracted anything.

So it’s not quite FOX having an attack of journalistic standards, and more FOX calling out the faults of others to deflect attention from their misdeeds of exactly the same variety.

Why am I not surprised. One of my favorite stories about Texas during the Civil War is that a number of Texas soldiers refused to join the fighting unless they were part of a cavalry. The problem was that the South was running short on horses. So the compromise was the “cavalry unmounted”: The soldiers were part of a cavalry unit, but they fought on foot.

Plan B isn’t just “to cover irresponsibility”. It’s a backup plan if the condom breaks or you forget to take the Pill or whatever. It’s also a single pill that you can give to a rape victim soon after she’s been attacked and prevent her from facing a forced pregnancy on top of the other trauma she’s already dealing with.

Seriously. It’s called Plan B for a reason. It assumes that you’ve got a Plan A, such as condoms, or the patch or the Pill or whatever. It’s $50 a dose, so it’s not cheap. Using it as your primary birth control would be stupid, but in a pinch it prevents an unwanted pregnancy and lowers the abortion rate.

You’d think that conservatives would cheer having a plan and a backup plan if something goes wrong so that you’re not irresponsible. Guess not.

Never mind the fact that the Pope isn’t saying anything new. The Catholic Church has criticized unfettered capitalism for ages. Francis is just emphasizing that criticism over social issues as a matter of policy.

Let’s also note the false dichotomy that the Galtians are babbling about. It isn’t a choice between Galtian Paradise on one hand, and North Korea’s economy on the other. It’s a choice between Galtian Paradise, and decent rules and regulations and a social safety net to keep the worst impulses of Galtian Paradise from running roughshod over 99% of the people. THAT is what Pope Francis is criticizing.

But the puppet masters at reason want their absurdly low capital gains taxes maintained, so creating this false dichotomy will be done again and again at Reason, Forbes, and the other right-wing rags.

At least the Pope is finally on my side on some issues.

No, they are not disputed abortifacients except among the people who think a fertilized cell is a human.

Actually, while it was originally thought that Plan B prevented implantation, they have discovered that it actually delays ovulation (if you already ovulated, it doesn’t work) so, no fertilization takes place.
The earlier, incorrect explanation is the one these folks go with, because they think the revised understanding is a lie.

Extra bonus: when you write down reminders for doing the important things.

Like remembering to move the turkey from the freezer to the fridge. (They’re cutlets, I’m still in time.)

Thank you, me of yesterday, for having the forethought to write down a reminder. Because otherwise I would have totally forgot.

Because suddenly we’re having nobody but the three of us, I’m changing things up a lot. I’m braising the turkey now, and when it’s done I’ll slice it all up and pack it away - some to the refrigerator, some to the freezer. Things that’ll go bad are going to be cooked, or par-cooked, and/or frozen. Things that’ll keep for meals over the next few weeks are staying in storage.

Braising the turkey because while I truly like crisp skin, skin does not stay crisp through storage, and other than skin braising produces it’s own sort of wonderful cooked meat.

I fortunately knew when planning that it was just the two of us so all my shopping has been that way. Hence turkey cutlets and a relatively small menu.

The Thanksgivings I remember growing up were always shared with another family of friends who also were too far away for getting together with relatives for the holiday. My first year of grad school I hosted an “orphan’s Thanksgiving” for a whole group of us who’d moved out to the West Coast that year and couldn’t afford to fly home for the holiday. I do miss some of that, but it’ll still be a wonderful holiday with just us.

It is supposed to prevent ovulation. It is not a 100% guarantee, though, so many of them also thicken mucus (to make it harder for the sperm to get in) and thin the lining of the uterus (which has the side effect of making it less hospitable to a fertilized egg - and the added bonus of generally lighter periods). There’s no way to tell which method is preventing pregnancy at any given point, unless a woman is being monitored to determine whether or not she has actually ovulated.

In a word, yes. I think it is possible, but very unlikely that one might ovulate, in which case, IIRC (this hasn’t been personally relevant for a while), the uterine wall is also rendered less hospitable for implantation. Of course, without implantation there is no actual pregnancy, so no abortion either, but in wingnut-speech, fertilization=pregnancy.

I’m stuck doing the whole thing - Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed P, and Punkin Pies. I can’t even do anything else for Christmas dinner. When Mrs. Jockey’s father started giving us a Honeybaked Ham for Christmas, I discovered that I also had to make Stuffing and Mashed P, and roast a turkey breast, or hear how I’d Ruined Christmas Forever.

Mom and Dad used to grow Brussels Sprouts, so I grew up eating them, and I like them, at least in part because I know how to cook ‘em without them turning bitter and sulfurous. I tried making them for Mrs. Jockey ONCE. I gave them every chance - chose small ones, blanched them JUST to doneness, then tossed them into hot olive oil with garlic, and topped them with freshly grated Parmegiano Reggiano and freshly ground black pepper.

She said they were the best Brussel Sprouts she’d ever had, but if I never made them ever for the rest of her life, she’d be happier.

(I use a lot of in in making pens and other things) I don’t claim to have any real sense for interior design and decoration, but I look at the stuff there and go “No WAY, No HOW, NOT EVER is any of that going on my walls / tables / shelves”.

re: #136 Backwoods_Sleuth

Actually, I think they believe every egg is sacred and = a baby. Isn’t that what they are blathering about all those dead fetus thingies that we are somehow storing in our ladyparts?

Two things come to mind. First, I think they believe that a fertilized ovum > a baby, because they don’t seem to give a crap about them once born. Cut WIC? Cut SNAP? Cut TANF? Of course! If their parents can’t provide for them, they shouldn’t have had them!

But BEFORE birth, no sacrifice (made by someone else) is too great, up to and including the life of the mother.

The other thing is that whole ‘dead fetuses in your ladyparts’ thing is as bizarre as the whole “I had a hamburger I ate in 1984 in my colon!” thing that you hear from enema fans. Both of them suggest a complete lack of understanding about how the body works.

Two not-secret secrets:

1. Living people matter less than souls. Once you’re viable outside the womb, suffering exists to lead you to Christ. Not having government support means you have to rely on charity, and a lot of charity is religious charity that comes with a side-order of proselytizing.

2. Helping single mothers care for their kids is never the plan. Oh sure, they want sluts to find Jesus, but not to keep their babies…and pregnancy crisis centers and other aid organizations they support are all about tricking or coercing put their kids up for adoption through a private (Christian, for profit) adoption agency.

We just do the soup(s) and sandwich rout. After stripping as much off the carcass as we can, we toss it it a stock pot and boil it until it is clean, strain the stock to get the small bones out and then finish up the soup. Put some in quart jars to give to friends and family, freeze the rest to reheat at a later time. Nothing gets wasted if it can be helped.

I’m not that bad but rice is just so easy to add practically anything to that it does make for almost effortless dishes when you don’t really feel like “cooking.”

Just plain old white rice, browned hamburger, and some “spice rack seasoned” black beans can make a pretty tasty and fairly healthy dinner. (a little sea salt and a dribble of white or red wine vinegar into your bowl after serving adds a nice kick to it)

Chicken/turkey alternatives?

I use turkey Polski sausage all the time. It’s what was for dinner—with baked beans, cole slaw and cornbread muffins.

The turkey alternatives are pretty damned good these days (I use the Butterball ones) and not expensive. About $7 for the entire dinner and we have leftovers.

We eat lots of turkey, and chicken, in various forms. I never eat red meat or pork. No mammals of any kind.

I’ve tried some, but I just haven’t found any that really hit the spot. I’m open for suggestions.

I do like the Kroger brand little turkey pepperonis. Especially when crisped on one of my homemade pizzas. I’ve found some good vegie-based provolone and use Romano/Parmesan dried cheese that helps control the cheese content. I usually have a lot of red onion, green pepper and tomato pieces under the cheese in the sauce to help cook…with the little peps up top. I don’t make them often….but damn it, they can’t take ALL the pizzas away from me!

I don’t know how well it would work for things like gumbo (or how easy it’ll be to find) but I use Iserno’s chicken italian sausage (a bulk tube) for making a variation on cassoulet and that’s been really tasty.

Huckabee is another socon clown, but without a dreadful radio show, maybe he can do commercials for Chic-fil-a?

Talk radio is dying a well deserved death.

Christian = fundy in Huckabee’s case. I’m only “hateful” towards those who deserve it.

What we really need is some counter-political theater. Have Joe Biden or even Obama himself just waiting in the wings when Huck or some other right wingbag expectorates “we still don’t know what happened, we were lied to.” Suddenly Biden strolls out and says, “OK, let’s clear the air right now!” and aides set out a card table and chairs and tall glasses of lemonade. Biden sits down with a pad of paper, rolls up his sleeves and invites Huck to join him at the table. “OK Huck, let’s write down everything we can agree we know about Benghazi.” With that done (on a couple dozen pages) Biden says, “Now, Huck, what else do you want to know?”
