I turned on a couple of former students of mine onto MST3K; I let them know that it’s on right now, and they’re watching it. Their English is fluent and they learned a lot of vernacular English from me, including many of my more sarcastic barbs.

Happy Thanksgiving, Lizards.

I hope that your meals, whatever they are, are tasty and make you happy, and that your time with family/friends is one of peace and fellowship. Or at least good food and you can get out of there in a reasonable time. ;)

I’m thankful to have found such a wonderful community of folks here, and to have become a part of it. I’m thankful I’ve finished my degree (I’M FREE). I’m thankful (most days) to have been born in America. And I’m thankful for my family, both of blood and of heart.

What more can a girl ask for?

If you wanna see the most blatant use of ripped-off footage, you have to see Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam (The Man Who Saved The World), known also as “Turkish Star Wars”. It’s unreal.

Holiday time is going full force at Disneyland right now, mostly Christmas of course, but in the Place of Puns, the Jingle Cruise (Jungle when it’s not holiday season), we were told that the man-eating fish had been attacking so ferociously for the last eight days that the guides had given the phenomenon a name — Pirhannukah, the Festival of Bites.

Happy Thanksgivukkah!

Well, I totally miscalculated when to take the turkey out of the freezer. Turns out I was a day late. Sooo, the turkey wrangling is finally over and the damned thing is in the oven. I ended up having to put it in a bucket of cold water to thaw enough to get the ack out of the inside, but managed to get a bucket of acky turkey water all over the place and spent an hour with bleach and lots of soapy water cleaning up a big contaminated mess. So that was fun. All I have to do now is cook potatoes and make the gravy when the turkey is done. Everything else is prepped for the oven and the pie was made last night. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t have to cook for a bunch of people with that little comedy of errors going on, I’d never be able to live it down.

Is that the actual skin color of the turkey, like some heirloom breed or something? Or did they inject it full of dye or beet juice? Or did Peg Bundy cook the damned thing? Doesn’t look appealing, not really.

re: #29 Tim TeaBro

The earlier one, definitely. This one I’m thinking might have burned skin and raw meat from too high a temp.

The other, less likely alternative would be that they smoked it, and this is just the effect of the smoke. Bark, if you will.

But that isn’t what it looks like.

31 Eclectic Cyborg  Thu, Nov 28, 2013 12:20:29pm

I got into it with this moron on FB earlier who was trying to convince me that Thanksgiving does, in fact, have strong Christian roots and muslims, jews, etc. should not be allowed to celebrate it.

Yeah, I got nothing on that one either.

33 A Mom Anon  Thu, Nov 28, 2013 12:28:02pm

I did something a bit different this year. I took about 1/4 of brown sugar and a couple of tablespoons of honey, mixed them together and put that under the skin of the turkey, a honey/brown sugar roasted turkey, kinda. Put a bit of olive oil on the skin(the turkey already had butter in it) so we shall see what happens with the aforementioned wrestled bird. It is, I am happy to report NOT purple.

re: #31 Eclectic Cyborg
Um, how was it a religious holiday? Like ever? It’s kind of the Indians saved the European’s asses because they were starving and in bad shape til the Indians showed them what was edible around them. And we all know how that turned out for the Indians. I also understand that recently there’s been evidence found at Jamestown of cannibalism because they were so bad at living off the land there. So, um, not sure how that fits into the whole religion thing, unless it includes starvation and cannibalism.

Happy Thanksgiving Lizards..
It’s a day of Friends and Family, Big food, Football, Beer and naps..
And yes, Winston got a ton of Baked Ham for his to go plate.
Donnie closed his Restaurant and i enjoyed the day with his huge family..( Too many kids running around LOL ) It was so damn funny.. We had older people just walk in and sit at a table and try to order food. Yes they were old to have missed the huge sign thaI t said we were closed for Thanksgiving.
It was sweet to watch one of Donnie’s kids go wait their table and bring them huge amounts of food…From day one when I moved to Oklahoma I’ve said the people here are so warm and friendly. I will greatly miss them dearly..It takes special people to live in a land of disasters.
I have seen the love they show strangers after tornadoes and disasters.
If it wasn’t such a fucked up place to live it would be more crowded here than Napa Valley on a weekend. Seems like it was only yesterday when I moved here but it’s been 3 years..And now I have only a few weeks left before Winston and I move away. I am thankful for the open arms and love you have given me Oklahoma. I got to live through the great tornado outbreak of 2011. The Hottest summer ever recorded in any state in all fucking recorded history..( yeah..You try waking up at 6am and it’s already 100 degrees..Vegas had nothing on us ) 80 MPH straight line wind with golf ball size hail that made every bodies car look like it just went through a pissed off ex-girlfriend and a baseball bat. The great pest outbreak. When you opened your door it looked like studio 54 of insects and critters waiting in line.
Enjoy this day and thank you Oklahoma,

They drive new Beemers and Lexus cars and SUV’s w/Texas plates. Big oil money in Texas.. Trust me.. I’ll also miss living in a college town. You can order delivery of just about anything at 4am in college town. Plus it’s a cool town when 40,000 kids go home for holiday breaks. No lines or dumb drivers.
I admit..I put up the stupid hot weather here..Why? I dunno but for some reason college girls hate wearing much clothing here.. Maybe it’s a contest..Who can wear the least amount of clothes and not go to jail in order to shop.

Finally made it to Alabama!

The GPS told us to get off I-65 and onto this two-lane winding country road. We kept driving and driving through Ardmore, Harvest and a bunch of backwoods redneck trailers, and Zedushka is all like “what if the GPS is sending us to some meth cooker’s trailer” and “ya think there’s Klans around here?”

Then all of a sudden we were in a brand new subdivision of big-ass brand new McMansions, and the GPS says 2 minutes to destination, and we kept driving up and down and the GPS delivered us to this big old McMansion where my son lives!

Welcome to Alabama and he pays less for his house than my kids in Brooklyn pay in rent for their crappy 1-bedroom apartments.

So then the media came to make video of us lighting the Hanukkah candles, and my son gave a little presentation of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving, I don’t know what time this will be broadcast (if at all) but it would be on one of the Huntsville affiliate networks.

It is a LONG trip, takes about the same amount of time to drive down from Detroit as to drive across to New York, except without the driving while in New York part.

Kentucky I-65 is AMAZING but Tennessee I-65 sucks.

It will be a bitch driving back, today we had the road practically all to ourselves.

We’re having chicken for dinner tonight and tomorrow night is TEH TURKEY.

Somebody claims to have invented the word “Thanksgivukkah” and for some reason expects to get a bunch of money for it.

I’m sure a lot of people thought of this word (there are only so many combos that you can make out of “Thanksgiving” and “Hanukkah”) but to expect a bunch of money for it just sucks. Usuckkukah.

St. Jacobs artist’s ‘Homeless Jesus’ sculpture blessed by Pope

The sculpture, created by Tim Schmalz, depicts a life-sized Jesus Christ as a homeless man sleeping on a bench.

He offered it to St. Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, and was turned down both times - St. Patrick’s has since said they may reconsider.

Last week, he took the same sculpture to the Vatican to present it to Pope Francis, and came away with a “phenomenal experience” that will last him a lifetime.
“The first thing he did when he saw my sculpture was pray, and then he blessed the piece,” Schmalz tells CTV News.

I don’t get his point, which is not surprising, considering the source.

The Plymouth colony was not a collective, in the marxist sense of the word. See en.wikipedia.org for some details. And in the end, it did not fail, but was combined with other Massachusetts colonies in 1691-92. Roanoke failed as a colony. Plymouth succeeded, despite some rough times.

As for the anti-secularism part of Hanukkah, Antiochus IV Epiphanes wanted everyone in Jerusalem to worship Zeus, so (in Judaic terms) he desecrated the Temple. That’s not secularism, at least in 2nd Century BC terms. It’s imposing the state religion on everyone, by force if necessary.

I learned all this in about 20 minutes by using Wikipedia. Shapiro must be shooting from the hip or out of someplace nearby.
