Texas Cops Handcuff and Take 13-Year-Old White Girl From Black Guardians

US News • Views: 21,734

Boy, I sure am glad this whole racism thing is over now.

Houston Police have refused to explain why they took a 13-year-old white girl from her two black guardians over the weekend and placed her in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Landry Thompson’s mother had signed notarized papers giving dance instructor Emmanuel Hurd full guardianship over her during a trip from Oklahoma to Houston for training, according to KHOU.

Thompson, Hurd and another dance instructor had stopped at a gas station in Houston on Saturday night when they were surrounded by police cars.

Thompson is a 13-year-old blonde white girl and both dance instructors are young African-American men.

But that dream of a visit took an ugly turn shortly after leaving the studio Saturday night, when the group, exhausted from their work, stopped off at nearby gas station.

“We were on the GPS trying to figure out where the hotel was. And we sat there and we dozed off.”

They said before they knew it, the police showed up and surrounded the car.

“And so I was kind of freaked out and surprised by it,” said Landry.

Sleeping in a vehicle while being of different races. No wonder the cops have not offered an explanation. The only one available is much too ridiculous.

Like the cops in Texas are going to trust what a woman, a teenage girl or 2 black men have to say about the matter.

10 Political Atheist  Mon, Dec 2, 2013 2:49:01pm

I’m a little worried about what the police might be cooking up to justify this arrest. Fingers crossed it’s an abject apology, with a suspended cop. but not holding my breath.

EDIT
re: #9 Kragar

This is why probable cause matters so very much as a check against authority. AFAIK from Texas to far & away higher levels of L.E.

15 ausador  Mon, Dec 2, 2013 2:56:08pm

I can’t blame the cops for asking the trio questions if they had received some type of citizen complaint call. Worse, knowing the rednecks like I do I’m sure it was reported to the police as a possible kidnapping or white slavery/prostitution thing.

But once the subjects were questioned and everyone told the same story while also having documentation validating that story they should have let them go unmolested. Instead what they did was not only false arrest but also custodial interference since they ignored the written instructions of the parent without any legitimate probable cause to do so (other than racism).

Houston better be ready to make a pretty generous settlement offer to the lawsuit that is now headed their way. Better for the city to just pay this off quickly and quietly than to pay lawyers to defend the indefensible while keeping it in the news while it goes to a civil court trial.

Considering the store has them marked down to 49 cents a pound right now I may just go buy a few more and a couple of deep dish pie shells.

Mississippi style sweet potato pies (my favorite recipe makes two) and perhaps another small batch of candied yams seems to be in order.

54 Shiplord Kirel  Mon, Dec 2, 2013 3:36:39pm

Reminds me of this 1998 incident in Lubbock:

Lubbock Mayor Apologizes to Coach

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) _ The mayor of Lubbock, Texas, traveled to Hampton University and publicly apologized Friday to the women’s basketball coach, her husband and an assistant, who were jailed but never charged in an alleged flimflam operation.

Coach Patricia Bibbs, her husband, Ezell, and assistant coach Vanetta Kelso were handcuffed and taken to jail Monday in Lubbock, where the team was preparing to play No. 12 Texas Tech. The game on Tuesday was canceled.

All three, who are black, said they believe race played a role in how they were treated.

“I hope you will accept my deep regret that your coaches were in our city and they had to go through that terrible experience,” Lubbock Mayor Windy Sitton said during a news conference at the university.

“My mission today in coming here is to help remove any suspicion, any doubt about the guilt” of the three, and “to do anything that I possibly could to help preserve the dignity of Hampton University,” she said.

Hampton president William R. Harvey said he, the Bibbses and Kelso accepted the apology.

It happens that I knew the alleged victim of the scam, an elderly white woman who has since passed away. She always insisted that police pressured and essentially tricked her into making an identification of which she was not sure at all. Knowing her character, I am sure this is true.

I am talking to people individually, neighbors, friends and such. And giving them the 800- phone number as well for those who can’t, or won’t, do it online.

I think once enough people have signed up and realize just how easy it is and what the savings are, they’ll spread the word around. Word of mouth can be a powerful incentive, coming from someone you know and trust.

The sad thing is that if she had been traveling with two older white males no one would have ever reported it as suspicious. The police would never have intervened, and even if they had interviewed the three “white” subjects for some strange reason, they would not have been assumed to be “nefarious.” The police would have accepted the cohesive story and documentation from the subjects without any question and gone on to the next call.

This entire story boils down to the expectation by the police that a young white girl with two older black males must involve some kind of sexual abuse.

Pill-popping fuckhead says what?

Limbaugh Accuses Pope Francis Of ‘Pure Marxism’

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh last week called Pope Francis’ economic views laid out in his Vatican mission statement “pure marxism.”

“I have been numerous times to the Vatican. It wouldn’t exist without tons of money,” Limbaugh said in a show titled “It’s Sad How Wrong Pope Francis Is (Unless It’s a Deliberate Mistranslation By Leftists).” “But regardless, what this is, somebody has either written this for him or gotten to him. This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the Pope.”

Pope Francis denounced excesses of capitalism in a document released last week, denouncing trickle-down economic theories that have “never been confirmed by the facts.”

Limbaugh said that while he admires the Catholic church, he believes the Pope is clueless on the economy.

“The Pope has written, in part, about the utter evils of capitalism,” Limbaugh said. “It’s sad because this Pope makes it very clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about when it comes to capitalism and socialism and so forth.”

I forgot, your literalism. Right.

My objection is to the moral bullshit that Scott Walker is playing on, trying to convince people that by donating to his campaign they will be bringing their children more long term good than by giving kids a gift under the tree now. Extra bonus moral bullshit if the children in question are girls, because the Republican platform is incredibly anti-woman. It’s playing on the desire of low-information voters to give their children a better life without actually intending to do anything along those lines, just to make the world better for rich white men.

Is that “crooked” in the general sense? Probably not, in that the money will have a trail for campaign finance records. Is it morally bankrupt? Hell yes.

I saw today when I was out and about that the latest film from Lars von Trier - “Nymphomaniac” - opens later this month here.

It actually looks like a good film - granted, von Trier isn’t for everybody, but I’ve enjoyed some of his films. “Europa” (known as “Zentropa” in the USA), “Antichrist”, “Dancer In The Dark” and “Dogville” spring to mind. Never saw “Melancholia”, but heard it was good.

You can find the Red Band trailer for “Nymphomaniac” on YouTube, and I can assure you, it’s Not Safe For Work.

To be clear, though, it was not my literalism that prompted my objection. It was prompted by the way ‘crooked’ gets thrown at politicians too easily, to the point where funding programs not to the speaker/writer’s liking is described as ‘crooked’. I believe it is important to prevent distortion of the language, so I tend to pounce on word usage that I see as same.

Part of the ad reads “The Governor wants his sons to grow up in a Wisconsin as great as the one he grew up in.”

Governor Walker was born in 1967.

A cursory check at Wikipedia shows that from 1971 to 1994, Democrats controlled the Wisconsin Assembly, and also controlled the Wisconsin Senate from 1975-1992 — many of the years in which Governor Walker was “growing up.”

So, is Governor Walker saying Wisconsin should elect more Democrats to the State Legislature?

Rebranding!

Trey Gowdy’s contraception conspiracy

Even for House Republicans, this is a doozy. According to Gowdy, President Obama included contraception access as part of preventive care under federal law, but it was really just an elaborate ruse. Consider the logic here, as outlined by the far-right congressman:

Obama knew there would be a lawsuit filed by corporation owners pushing the limits of corporate personhood and religious liberty to unseen levels. And Obama knew an appellate court would ignore existing precedent that recognizes the distinction between owners’ religious beliefs and the business’ First Amendment rights. And Obama knew the Supreme Court would agree to hear the case. And Obama knows conservatives on the court will also ignore legal precedent and strike down this provision of the law.

The president’s crystal ball is just that good.

Why, pray tell, did Obama ignore his premonitions of the future? According to Trey Gowdy, it’s because of the president’s willingness to “deceive women,” in order to fool them into voting for him in 2012.

Sure. That makes total sense.

Someone tell me again how the Republican party is a serious political entity. I don’t see it.

My Columbus MAX Battaglin Battleship carried me a 240# on 28f/32r, with nary an issue. 40 spoke seems like it’s built for Godzilla!

EDIT - WW’s 48 spoke is obviously for a tandem, ridden by Godzilla AND Rodan. Not sure who’d pilot, and who’d stoke.

Triple butted? You mean Alpine III’s (13-15-14)?

Yepper. I had never seen them before, but when I ran my fingers along them I could tell they were different. It’s off one of the original Easy Racer Gold Rush Replica recumbent bikes. I got the bike a few years back and have ‘upgraded’ it to some more modern components. It also had QUAD front crank. (company call Mountain Tamers used to make some stuff where you could mount one of the rear gears off an old freewheel onto the crank to get a super low granny gear. Made shifting a bitch however.

Oh really?

I have a pair, 48 spoke rear, 40 spoke front, with Sun rims. Gonna clean ‘em up & put ‘em out….

Okay, at what point do all the drillings for spokes weaken the rim more than the extra spokes strengthen the wheel?

And a family of 4 can live comfortably in it. Please tell me it’s black, that’s the only correct color for that car IMO

Also, the beast will barely fit in my garage. It will fit - I measured it - but only just. I am going to have to figure out some way to mark the parking position to make sure I can get it in and out.

Sigh…YouTube comments, what can you do?

You are quite ignorant! This is yet another cover-up where a drone flying
close to the air space of flight 800 mistakenly painted the passenger jet with radar during a war game exercise, taken out with a missile seen by eyewitnesses. The need to repress the truth is obvious due to liability claims. Nat. Geo is no longer a credible source for me on ANYTHING after they covered up the acts of Israeli terrorism on the WTC towers. Do some research and you
will figure it out.

So not only was TWA flight 800 downed by a U.S. Navy missile but 9/11 was perpetrated on the U.S. by Israel? He knows it is true and you are ignorant to question his belief. How does he know these things? Because he read it on the internet where everything is the gospel truth as long as it didn’t come from a MSM source, right?

Nod, smile, and back away slowly.

They belonged to a little old man who probably never weighed more than 130 lbs. He toured all over the world on his Davidsons (one at a time) and believed in over-building, just to be sure.

I built the wheels my gold rush is running on now, Ultegra 36 in the rear, Shimano Generator hub up front, Velocity rims. It’s a touring bike mainly

Somewhere after this point. That’s 144 spokes. 2 rows of holes in the rim.

Whoa. My old MG got by on half that per wheel, and it weighed a ton.

Tennis ball from a string, that hits the hood where you should stop!

get it parked, then hang a tennis ball on a string so that when you pull in it will hit the windshield right in front of your face. That way you’ve got a fool proof method. (actually saw something like that for sale for a stupid price)

That thing is 100% steel, and it does weigh a ton. Pretty much machine built, and just for show.
