Martin Bashir “Resigns” From MSNBC, Breitbart Commenters Spew Hate and Racism

Nobody gloats like a wingnut
Media • Views: 26,926

I have to admit I’ve never been a big fan of Martin Bashir’s hyperbolic style, but it’s more than a little pathetic to see MSNBC caving in to the right wing shriek machine, even after Bashir apologized and Sarah Palin accepted it: Martin Bashir Resigns From MSNBC.

Note that Bashir’s comment about Sarah Palin was gross and offensive, and I’m in no way supporting it; this kind of thing is why I said above that I wasn’t much of a fan. But if we’re going to weigh gross and offensive comments, Sarah Palin’s comparison of slavery to the national debt seems vastly more outrageous to me.

Meanwhile, at breitbart.com, where they’ve been on a non-stop campaign to get Bashir fired, they’re in a celebratory mood. And you know what that means: lots of gloating (nobody gloats like a wingnut), mixed with thousands of openly racist, xenophobic comments: MSNBC’S BASHIR RESIGNS!!!

A small selection of the wonderful Breitbart comment section, in which we see the wingnut base in all its glory as usual:

How does Bashir sleep at night? Probably hanging from the rafters, above a mound of his own guano.

Resignation is not enough punishment for this piece of dirt.

[…]

According to Wikipedia, he was born in Britain and is a Christian (although his parents are of Pakistani descent. Can you say “Taliban” anyone?

[…]

Marty isn’t good enough for Britain. S’matter o’fact he isn’t good enough for most places. Maybe Uganda.

Have a rotten life, Martin. May many urinate and defecate into your foul mouth.

So long you douchebag. Have fun at Al-Jazeera!!

The trash has taken itself out! He thought he was being all big and bad when in reality this idiot would cry if a bubble popped on him. Now to seal the deal leave the US and destroy your passport.

He should return up his mother’s birth canal.

Back to England for you. What a great day.

No, don’t send the twat there. The British people have to put up with sh*t like Anjem Chouldary every day.

[…]

Back to where he belongs—his real home—Pakistan. This turd world POS is a Pakistani immigrant to Britain. The West is sick of this third world trash. Ship this Paki to his real home.

Good. One less muslim jihadi spewing his crap all over the TV.

Filthy third world POS.This piece of trash is representative of many the turd worlders that are immigrating to our country. They will do everything they can to destroy traditional America.

Forced?
But I thought he had a come-to-Mohammed moment.

[…]

Nicely done America. On more than this front, America is pushing back against the reign of tyranny the progressive PC culture of Orwellian double speak and destructive lies as means to their fantasy ideological ends. The phony earth religion/science, the healthcare redistribution of wealth scheme, the discrimination against Christians in the name of reparations for Muslims, the corrupted racist policies of double standard, and the lawlessness of the current POTUS have all been revealed.

[…]

HOLY COW!! A commununist ally, an islamofascist throwback to the 9th century, FIRED for ‘using his right to free speech!’ That’s the sort of thing I expect from people with INTEGRITY and GOOD SENSE and a pro-American world view.

Wait till he gets caught with kiddie porn.

But that’s part of Islamic culture, doncha know?!

I thought they were only into swine.

Maybe piglets because there is a better chance the young ones are virgins.

Man, the Islamotrash will hump anything they can stick their peters into…goats, mules, jackasses, little boys, their own daughters (but only up the butt…cuz she’s got to be a virgin to marry her off to some other desert dwelling goatfukkin savage,) any woman not escorted by a male, camels, the odd rabbit.

I think I’ll stop there before I get sick.

Breaking: Sarah Palin still an ignorant shit for brains.

5 Charles Johnson  Wed, Dec 4, 2013 1:09:14pm

Please note: Martin Bashir never used the words “piss and shit in Palin’s mouth.” He said she deserved the same punishment as slaves received from a plantation owner, and yes, that punishment was (in part) the above-mentioned “pissing and shitting.”

But the wingnut crowd repeats this phrase over and over and over, often putting it in quotes and attributing it to Bashir even though he never used the words.

6 GeneJockey  Wed, Dec 4, 2013 1:10:15pm

So their response to his being canned for making an offensive comment is to celebrate by competing to make the most offensive comment.

Well, okay then.

Only in Wingnutistan will you find people that cheer the firing of a guy over saying something offensive by claiming it as a defeat of “the progressive PC culture”.

Russia calls for ‘stability and order’ in Ukraine as protests continue

Russia called for “stability and order” in neighboring Ukraine on Wednesday as thousands of protesters kept up their demonstrations against the government in Kiev.

Speaking to a visiting Ukrainian delegation in Russia, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Boyko that Moscow was watching the events that have plunged its neighbor, whom he called an important strategic partner to Russia, into a political crisis.

“We’re watching what’s happening in your country. It’s an internal affair of Ukraine, though it’s really important to have stability and order there,” he said, according to Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carano and Liefeld are “re-conceiving” and “rebuilding” the title as a vehicle for the actress, and the proposed film(s) will carry a tone akin to Kate Beckinsale’s pulpy Underworld franchise. For those unfamiliar with the Image comic book series, it centers around a fallen angel who now fights demons on Earth using her considerable super strength.

That was the one part of Scorsese’s Hugo that I found a bit distracting. I know that’s a huge issue for him, but it was really and truly forced in that film.

Funny how nasty Fox News hosts are towards Democrats (and President Obama in particular) and none have been asked to step down (except probably Beck who is too crazy for even Fox News).

Sigh.

I know, and I agree. The problem is, the other side holds itself to the exact opposite standard, i.e. anyone on the Right SAYING what Bashir IMPLIED, but about, say Valerie Jarrett would not have to resign, but rather would do a whole show crowing about how much the Left’s collective nose was out of joint.

It’s not that we hold to a standard opposite to what they do, it’s that we hold to it so rigidly that they can exploit such with made up “controversies,” then use the initial “outrage” to promote the idea that there’s something to the BS they’re selling. Twisting words, taking them out of context, or even blatantly manufacturing them is never questioned until the dust has already settled. By then, the effort to repair the damage has come too late.

There are a lot of reasons to cringe at a Wonder Woman movie. The character originally lost all her powers when a man tied her up. Unlike a character like Iron Man or Batman, her modern origin stories have her being made of clay or a literal demigoddess, unlike Thor, who’s an alien that was worshipped as a god by primitive humans. Her costume will end up turning the character into cheesecake for the drooling fanboys instead of a serious contender in the DC Universe. Also, after Watchmen and Sucker Punch, I’m not convinced that Zack Snyder could do justice to a female hero.

I do have to take issue with that writer, though. The Black Widow in the Avengers film moves the plot forward. The first time we see her, she kicks the asses of all the men holding her hostage while tied to a chair. She brings in Banner without resorting to violence. She tricks Loki into revealing his plan. She knocks Hawkeye out and frees him from Loki’s control. She’s the one who shuts down the alien portal in the end. She’s more than just a woman in a catsuit despite the promotional art used to market the film.

This is what I’ve been saying for many years, too.

“If this is how Snyder handles women, then we have only dread and apprehension in the face of Wonder Woman. There is a popular misinterpretation of the word “strong” when it comes to female characters in modern movies. Some filmmakers (both male and female) feel that a female character is “strong” if she is capable of violence. They feel “strong character” should mean “physically strong character.” I’ve been saying this for years, but violence does not equal feminism. The true meaning of “strong” should mean that the character herself is complex and real and palpable. That she is alluring as a person and as a dramatic presence. That she is well-written. That she is just as complex as her male counterparts. ” (my emphasis)

Marvel UK had a limited series in the early 90s called Warheads which would be pretty cool as a film/series. A private company had wormhole tech they used to visit other worlds and had mercs go across and steal anything they could get their hands on for the company to use. The merc teams would be made up of soldiers, thieves, and psychics.

So like if the crew from Firefly had a Stargate sort of.

Well, I’m not so sure we know they don’t.

The MSM never did their own job in vetting this vile woman, and since 2008, she has been treated with kid gloves (by such as Matt Lauer and others, aside from FN). Well, she has successfully merchandized herself, which those like Christine O’Donnell couldn’t do, and even after poor ratings at FN, managed to get another contract (albeit not as lucrative as the old one), and still keeps Harper Collins under her thumb, even if under one of their lesser imprints.

What other utterly failed political figure has been able to keep herself in the news and in the public eye longer than this one? I’m pretty fucking tired of her ignorant ideology myself, yet like a bad penny, she keeps turning up.

Truck carrying ‘extremely dangerous’ radioactive material found after it was stolen in Mexico

A truck carrying “extremely dangerous” radioactive material was found Wednesday close to the place where it was stolen in Mexico, authorities said, but it’s unclear whether its cargo was still on board.

The vehicle was transporting radiotherapy equipment containing the radioactive isotope cobalt-60 from a hospital to a waste storage center, the International Atomic Energy Agency said.

“At the time the truck was stolen, the source was properly shielded,” the IAEA said in a statement. “However, the source could be extremely dangerous to a person if removed from the shielding, or if it was damaged.”

Officials could only confirm that the truck had been found. It is unclear whether the cargo was still in the truck.

re: #110 klys

I dislike trying to attach that word in this context because it continues with the negative connotations of it - and particularly, with once again attaching those connotations to a female.

Corporate shill is much more precise.

A friend stopped by and so now I am behind in the thread. I wanted to explain myself a bit.

I was keeping it in the context of Rushbo using it on Ms. Fluke and in the context of this thread and Blueraven’s post #22. Remember Rush used slut as another word for a prostitute. It could be said that a corporate shill can also be considered to be a prostitute too.

Second definition of prostitute: The act or an instance of offering or devoting one’s talent to an unworthy use or cause. (The FreeDictionary.com)

I understand your point, but I don’t think you understood mine. It is easy to get caught in the emotion of the word. I was discussing it in the context and use of wingnuts and of Roger Ailes being just like a pimp, using a woman like Megyn Kelly for an unworthy use/cause. Call it corporate shilling. but to me Sandra Fluke did less to deserve someone using the word on her as compared to Fox using women as “corporate shills!”

Damn, it is hard to put it into words. All I can ask is if you think I was calling Megyn Kelly a slut, I did not mean it that way. By the way, there does not seem to be any other definition for the word other than a negative description attached to women. That is exactly why Rush used it and why Blueraven used it in this discussion.

I can see the logic in the process (and I want to be clear, I’m not outraged or peeved or anything, just trying to be aware of language).

I guess the way it works for me is two-fold, emotion aside: falling back to the “striving to be better than the other side” but also the subtle differences in the treatment - why do we not call Bill O’Reilly a slut then? Certainly there’s been discussion before about how much he believes the shit he’s shilling. Why does this question only turn up regarding the female anchors/newscasters on Fox?

It may be logically fitting, but my own position is that all women deserve that basic level of respect, regardless of which “side” they play for, and so I wouldn’t use the phrase anyway.

So, about that radioactive cobalt…

If that’s the case, it serves them right.

Now, the problem is recovering the cobalt-60 safely (which has apparently been found a kilometer away), without anyone else getting hurt.

re: #250 Lidane

I’m reading a lot of Mark Bittman and Joel Furhman lately. They both make way more sense than my paleo diet friends, that’s for damn sure. And they’re giving me enough ideas that even the boyfriend seems willing to go along with it. We’ll see,

My current food philosophy is trying to move away from overly processed things, more cooking from recognizable foods, counting calories, and just down to the basics. I’m also working on exercising more - specific strength workouts and then more general aerobic activity. Averaging over 5k a day right now steps-count, which is much better than I used to do when working from home.

I want something sustainable, and the reality is I’m not willing to give up pasta and bread for the rest of my life. Moderation, sure, but I will not abandon them. (The same goes for cheese, salami, and sausage. God help me if I am ever told I need to go low sodium.)

We have a friend who got a divorce, but let his wife stay in his house because he didn’t want their two sons (who were teens at the time) to think he was mean to their mother. She stayed for 8 years. Mr. w said to him, ‘I think after 7 years you’re legally married again.’ She was out in 3 months.

We were laughing about that over Thanksgiving this year. My aunt and uncle, when married, used to fight almost constantly. No physical violence, because my uncle would sooner hurt himself than a woman, so it almost always ended up in him sleeping on somebody else’s couch for a couple days/weeks until they made up in time for the next big fight. Finally they got divorced about 8 years ago and he moved out. Well, within a year, they were living together again, only this time on friendly terms. And for the last 7 years, the two have been good friends while living in the same house they’d live in while married. Legally, they’re married again under common law, but decided they just preferred being friends instead.

Apparently the traditional family rule here is “Murder perhaps, but never divorce.” That appears to have kept the lid on things given the finality of the one option.

With the exception of my mother, every one of my maternal grandmother’s children has divorced at least once. The record was held by my mother’s elder sister, who managed to go through four marriages in her life. Used to joke that she had a mission to rival Liz Taylor for number of divorces. In a case of cosmic irony, she died a few months after Taylor did.

Something like this has happened before- the Goiânia accident

The radiation source in the Goiânia accident was a small capsule containing about 93 grams (3.3 oz) of highly radioactive caesium chloride (a caesium salt made with a radioisotope, caesium-137) encased in a shielding canister made of lead and steel. The source was positioned in a container of the wheel type, where the wheel turns inside the casing to move the source between the storage and irradiation positions.[1]

Lowlights:

On September 13, 1987, the guard in charge of daytime security, Voudireinão da Silva, did not show up to work, using a sick day to attend a cinema screening of Herbie Goes Bananas with his family.[7] That same day, “scavengers” Roberto dos Santos Alves and Wagner Mota Pereira illegally entered the partially demolished facility, found the teletherapy unit - which they thought might have some scrap value - and placed it in a wheelbarrow, taking it to Alves’s home,

A scrapyard later:

That night, the owner, Devair Alves Ferreira, who lived next door to the scrapyard, went into the garage and noticed the blue glow from the punctured capsule. Thinking the capsule’s contents were either valuable or even supernatural, he immediately brought it into his house. Over the next three days, he invited friends and family to view the strange glowing substance and offered a reward to anyone who could free it from the capsule.

It just gets sordid from then on out

In my family, the rule seems to be that nobody works well as a couple more than the time it takes to raise a kid past the age of six, but will stay friends with their exes long after the divorce has ended. There’s been one or two worthless douchebags in the mix, but the rest of time we’re just one big dysfunctional family of rednecks.

My generation of Molecular Biologists were among the first to have to take radiation safety seminars and wear badges and shit. The ones before us used to do reactions with 100 times the level of 32P with little or no shielding and often without gloves. I remember my first such seminar at Cornell:

“It’s crazy, I know! But yeah, that’s what we’re supposed to do now!”

Why is NYC’s Freedom Tower making this moaning noise?

it’s just acoustics, but creepy none the less.

[Embedded content]

Video taken in the vicinity of a bunch of buildings and it’s attributed to the WTC or 1WTC in particular? It’s possible that the sound is coming from the scaffolding up the tower, or the louvers at the base, but the tower has been completed for some time, and only random sounds? I’m rather dubious of this.

As if there aren’t other buildings/construction ongoing that could potentially be the source.

Frankly, I’m surprised that Marie Curie lived as long as she did:

Marie Curie (1867-1934) was a Polish-French physicist and chemist. She was a pioneer in the early field of radioactivity, later becoming the first two-time Nobel laureate and the only person with Nobel Prizes in physics and chemistry. Her death, at age 67, in 1934 was from aplastic anemia due to massive exposure to radiation in her work,[1] much of which was carried out in a shed with no proper safety measures being taken, as the damaging effects of hard radiation were not generally understood at that time. She was known to carry test tubes full of radioactive isotopes in her pocket, and to store them in her desk drawer, resulting in massive exposure to radiation. She was known to remark on the pretty blue-green light the metals gave off in the dark. Because of their levels of radioactivity, her papers from the 1890s are considered too dangerous to handle. Even her cookbook is highly radioactive. They are kept in lead-lined boxes, and those who wish to consult them must wear protective clothing.

Egads…

One of my installations used a large californium source to flouroscope artillery rounds that rolled by on a conveyor. The operation was done inside a maze of shielding. The supervisor said “If you go around that corner, go home and die.” We could also take xray motion pictures of 105mm rounds as they left a tank gun muzzle.

On the vintage watch forums, every month or two someone asks whether it’s safe to wear a watch with a radium dial, which sometimes leads to an argument over how safe is safe etc. And of course there’s the whole ‘Radium Girls’ story. Basically it boils down to “Don’t like the dial” and “Don’t snort any dust you find in the case when you open it.”

The Radium Girls story, BTW, is an excellent cautionary tale about why libertarianism is bullshit.
