Just Some More Overt Racism and Hate Speech at Breitbart “News”

The right wing base in all its glory
Wingnuts • Views: 42,282

At the far right propaganda site that Andrew Breitbart spawned, Ben “Friends of Hamas” Shapiro shares his special take on President Obama’s planned trip to South Africa: AFTER SNUBBING THATCHER FUNERAL, OBAMA AND MICHELLE TO VISIT SOUTH AFRICA FOR MANDELA!!!

I’ve lost track of how many times the Breitbrats have used this photo for their hit pieces; for some reason it really appeals to them:

Hilariously, Shapiro’s predictable slant that Obama “snubbed” Margaret Thatcher’s funeral is undercut by his own article:

The Sun reported, “[Downing] Street is most angered by rejections from Obama, First Lady Michelle and Vice-President Joe Biden. And none of the four surviving ex-US leaders - Jimmy Carter, George Bush Sr., Bill Clinton and George Bush Jr. - is coming either.”

Oh, you mean none of the last five presidents went to Thatcher’s funeral? But of course, it was Obama who SNUBBED, because he’s “arrogant.” You can tell from the photo. Is that an arrogant face or what?

Meanwhile, in the comment section, the right wing base is making things very clear again, in case you were tempted to believe they had some sort of respect for Nelson Mandela’s achievements:

Well Mandela was a communist afterall.

[…]

…as a fellow african the president needs to mourn with his people…

[…]

you’re right about him having to be with HIS people. He’ll always be more part of them than American anyway. he should stay there.

[…]

The whites there have to have an inordinate amount of security around their houses. When blacks do manage to get in, they now torture their victims for days before killing them. The black police usually do nothing. They have been known to wrap babies in newspaper and set them on fire, or drop them in boiling water.
I don’t see this making the news. Thank God they have an evacuation plan.

[…]

They are just as sick here…it must be in their DNA…

[…]

And Mandela became a “good” communist yesterday.

[…]

Maybe we’ll get lucky and their plane will fall out of the sky.

[…]

This is seriously the reason this ass has not been assassinated, nobody wants this guy to be martyred, I actually think the KKK would prevent any attempts on his life. Our luck will be the typical liberal assassin does it.

[…]

Seriously—we’re gonna say it cause we know everyone is thinking it—the reason they snubbed Thatcher is because she was conservative and white while Mandela was a communist and black (like BHO)

[…]

Isn’t this special?
White World leaders don’t receive any recognition from this administration.

How racist is that?
Oh well, I guess it’s just another example of affirmative action.

[…]

Lady Thatcher was a white European. Mr. Mandela was a REAL African. Is there any question which type of person Barry like more?

[…]

Mandala was a corrupt and amoral black racist.

[…]

THIS ARTICLE ALONE puts the LIE to the PR CLAIMING MANDELA an altruist instead of a communist genocidal freak who successfully shed his own reputation off onto Winnie, while ignoring all his own ACTIONS.

WHEN has the WORLD MEDIA so highly praised and EX-COMMUNIST, much less OBAMA.

As usual, when most of a Dictator’s GENOCIDAL VICTIMS are CHRISTIANS, whether Black or whatever - in this case as with Obama’s forefathers, PRIMARILY BLACK - it is highly irrelevant - like with CAIR, Muslim Brotherhood, Syrian Al Qaeda cannibals…

[…]

And not a word from the MSM about “necklacing” torture… or machete hackings. Sorry Liberals but your Mandela is not your grand parent’s MLK.

[…]

Obama should just stay over there and find him a little African country to run.

[…]

Where was Obama, blowing dogs at the bath houses?

[…]

It’s no big deal. Just another dead communist.

[…]

Let this LIAR and fat so muchella STAY THERE…………..

[…]

Would be the perfect time for the first cow to get that saucer fitted for that lip.

[…]

Moochelle can be fitted for a lot of neck rings. It will help keep her nose in the air because she has such a big head

[…]

I agree that the saucer and rings would make her culturally compliant along with her other offensive attributes.

[…]

The Obamas…back to their roots…the jungles & trees of Africa.

[…]

If they don’t want o be associated with jungles and trees then they shouldn’t claim t be “African” Americans.

That’s just from the first few pages of comments, and this stuff is by no means unique to breitbart.com; you’ll find similar deranged rants and overt racism at nearly every right wing website today.

(But remember, there’s no such thing as right wing racism.)

Everybody should just quit comparing Mandela to anybody else. There probably isn’t a better example of an ‘incomparable’ human.

And there is certainly no shame in Mandela having been a communist or the fact that he worked with communists. The shame goes to all those political entities and factions that were on the wrong side.

Considering what those white people had done, not just to him, but to all nonwhites in South Africa for generations, that’s not to be sneezed at. Of course, changing an entire nation from a repressive, racist, minority ruled regime to a unified peaceful pluralistic one without bloody reprisals is a neat trick nobody else managed to do, possibly AT ALL, but definitely not in such a short period, and absolutely not after being a political prisoner for decades for opposing that repressive, racist, minority ruled regime.

There is an underlying fear I think a lot of racists have is that if they let up, just a little, there will be retaliation for past actions. As in all things, they cannot think that anyone else might act differently than they do, and they believe that if they were being oppressed they would pull out their guns and shoot the person.

Short of shutting it down? How about policing the comments and banning those who engage in racist, bigoted, and indecent postings? You know, moderated commenting system.

It works. They (and a lot of other comment sections) would benefit from it.

re: #80 Belafon

There is an underlying fear I think a lot of racists have is that if they let up, just a little, there will be retaliation for past actions. As in all things, they cannot think that anyone else might act differently than they do, and they believe that if they were being oppressed they would pull out their guns and shoot the person.

Logically, people who have that fear should embrace Mandela for showing it can be otherwise. But of course, logic is the furthest thing from their minds.

What I realized is that this is actually the business model for sites like Breitbart and Fox News. These are their readers and they know it. They occasionally do some timid moderation just to make it seem like they care, but in fact these are the people their sites are designed to appeal to.

Who Are The Obamas Insulting By Attending Mandela’s Funeral?

I find it amusing that they latch onto Thatcher as the person worthy of reverence. Because fictional Thatcher is the distaff counterpart of fictional Reagan; a world-shaker as opposed to a rather pedestrian conservative with a talent for talking up how scary gays and people on the dole are.

As opposed to Mandela, who had an exceptional life and achieved the politics equivalent of a unicorn: a peaceful transition to a full democracy from an oppressive racial state.

And note that Thatcher and her fellow Tories not only publically condemned Mandela, but happily bought into the idea the the Afrikaaners had to stay in power, because Communism and the orgy of black retaliatory violence.

Wasn’t surprised when he died, all that pissed off blood pressure, it does no one any good. Talk radio exists to make people mad at things they never would have been mad at, and they don’t realize they are being played, all to sell you gold or snapple or lifelock or whatever the hell else you don’t need to go with the anger you didn’t know you needed.

Let them talk themselves into oblivion - it is of no consequence to me. The world 100 years from now will be so unrecognizable it will be as though they’d never existed. They’re shouting into the wind - they’re trying to stop history, and in that endeavor, they will fail utterly.

I get so incredibly pissed at this stupid BS. Yes, Mandela had the support of the communists. Know what… maybe if some of the western democracies had supported him he wouldn’t have had to get support from them.

My general calm doesn’t need that kind of aggravation, I know they are stupid, racist bigots. I also know that if I stick my hand in a pot of boiling water it will burn. I don’t need to do multiple reps to make sure it’s still hot.

the use of the picture by breitbart is instructive, since it was demonstrated in cinema long ago that you could use any reaction take and manipulate the audience to believe the reaction was to whatever you chose to make them believe it was

the same reaction take by an actor was cut to be shown after widely differing events. the audience percieved different emotions being expressed by the actor because of what had been shown just before

that’s why breitbart can show a picture of the obamas reacting to the queen’s limousine yet make their audience believe instead that they are showing disdain for maggie thatcher or whatever

It depends on how hard progressives push but I don’t think they can push the party over the edge like the Tea Party did. Candidates will pander to the populists for the primaries and then run to the center after the nomination. I don’t think progressives have enough influence to get a pure, far left true believer through the nomination process. The best they’ll probably get is someone who will briefly pander to them.

Of all the coalition groups, Labor Dems have made the least progress since the Lilly Ledbetter Act. The Big Tent has two years to fix that.

I kind of like being briefly pandered to myself:
the ACA
the end of DADT
raise taxes on higher income
talk about income inequality and how to fix it (the only way he’ll get more done is for the Republicans to no longer control the House).

Get another president who panders like that and I won’t know what to think.

Let them talk themselves into oblivion - it is of no consequence to me. The world 100 years from now will be so unrecognizable it will be as though they’d never existed. They’re shouting into the wind - they’re trying to stop history, and in that endeavor, they will fail utterly.

The future does not belong to them. And they know it.

A lot of what you are all commenting on has a lot to do with the thinking that a true federal, small, stripped down government would have nothing else to spend money on and maintain other than defense. That covers everyone from staunch conservative, to neocon to some libertarians…even some centrist Democrats. So, point being, it will always be hard to shake the defense budget.

I know what I am posting is a simplistic explanation, but it is really at the heart of a lot of the argument about what the Federal government is responsible for and what should all else be left for states.

So, with that thinking the money spent always seems to get excused as they see it as needed for defense and for a strong country, etc. I think it has been pushed for so long in this country the Defense contractors know they are covered, so they see room for profit and growth of the toys needed to “get the job done.”

In a way, they shock and awe and starwars the US populace too.

There are the programs that the military wants (its wishlist items).

There are the programs that Congress wants (because it means jobs for their districts)

The defense contractors know those two go hand in hand - so they develop weapons systems that get subcontracted out to every last district they possibly can - and if it’s important members (like members of the Armed Services Committee, Appropriations, or Foreign Policy, and you’ve got game).

Add to that the fact that members of Congress can and do transition between Congress and the lobbying industry and high ranking officers will transition to the defense contractor business, so they know the ropes and who to go to in order to get stuff done.

All of this contributes to so much bloat that it’s ungodly.

We get programs that we don’t need, or capabilities that get watered down with additional requirements so as to keep a program running despite no longer being relevant.

We get M1 tank upgrades/refurbs that Congress wants, but the Army doesn’t - because the Army wants a new tank. So, what’ll happen? We get both the new tank under development and the spending on the refurbishment.

The new Ford Class is running about $13 billion. The Navy figures that they’ll save money over buying a new Nimitz class because it’ll take fewer people to operate (and personnel costs are an area where the military can cut via technology).

But the Navy has 10 carriers, plus a bunch of Wasp-class amphibious assault ships that have a deck as long as most foreign carriers, and each of those ships has to be accompanied by a range of support ships (destroyers, cruisers, and subs, to provide escort duties). Carriers do, however, serve a humanitarian purpose after natural disasters - they can do airlift like nothing else - and that’s a plus side on that ledger. Allow older carriers to retire without replacement, and you’d still have blue water domination.

Going up-thread, one of the reasons that the F-14 was phased out was costs to maintain, and it was easier to expand the role of the F/A-18 (either the C/E, or the Super Hornet), than try to extend its life service. Now, the Navy is looking at the F-35 JSF as the successor, even though that bloated program is a mess - every service wanted its own variation, and own requirements, even though the mission profiles have significantly changed, and potential enemies with even close capabilities are nonexistent.

I get the idea of pushing new tech, but these are costs that the nation can’t afford - not when a comparable amount of money would go to building durable infrastructure that lasts another 100 years and improves economic efficiencies.

Yeah, the F-14 phased out because of the F-18. Now the F-35 with the JSF program that started in 1996? Still in the works. Should have just gone with an advanced Super Hornet and advanced Harrier. What do I know.

re: #300 Gus

The Navy wanted Stealth, and that’s what the JSF offered.

The Harrier was also a high-cost to maintain aircraft, and while they managed to get the kinks figured out, it was still due to be retired at some point. The Navy wanted VSTOL capabilities, which is why the Marine Corps was getting a VSTOL version of the JSF.

The whole idea of the JSF was to save money by using common airframes and structures, but like with the original Bradley, everyone wanted to add their own stamp on it - adding capabilities, costs, and turned it into a bloated mess. It may end up being a fine aircraft, but it’s something that doesn’t justify the costs.

South Africa is still a constitutional republic. The people can very well elect a non-socialist ruling party if they wish come election day. Can’t say I like the ANC but they’ve been electing ANC candidates since Mandela. Mandela was president for only one term and wasn’t some communist stereotype that held onto power. Mandela was certainly no Che Guevara, Castro or Lenin type. If Mandela was a communist he was “communist lite.”

341 steve_davis  Fri, Dec 6, 2013 6:07:49pm

re: #1 wrenchwench

Everybody should just quit comparing Mandela to anybody else. There probably isn’t a better example of an ‘incomparable’ human.

And there is certainly no shame in Mandela having been a communist or the fact that he worked with communists. The shame goes to all those political entities and factions that were on the wrong side.

The shame is that Ho Chi Minh approached the U.S., seeking support from us in the late 1940’s, and we turned him down. It’s easy to forget that a lot of the folks who were communists in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s were on that side because there were only two games in town, and that was the other one.

Later, lizards.

Is that Kitty sort of a brown color? Or is it a dark warm grey and will be more black as it ages? Color looks unique on my monitor.

The shame is that Ho Chi Minh approached the U.S., seeking support from us in the late 1940’s, and we turned him down. It’s easy to forget that a lot of the folks who were communists in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s were on that side because there were only two games in town, and that was the other one.

To paraphrase my uncle, who was born in the Raj and became a Marxist-Leninist:

…and a lot of people in the developing world were colonized by a nation that practiced capitalism and had no issue with treading them into the ground to make a profit. Indeed, if you were in a British colony, you’d be told that it was all for your own good. Capitalism wasn’t incidental to the subjugation of those people, it was front-and-center. They were a captive labor force, a captive consumer audience, and were explicitly being told by their European rulers that this is the only way things can work.

And if they were fluent in international politics, they could even look at countries that were no longer colonies, but still had the massive wealth division, injustice, and cultural segregation…like most of South America…and want something different.

The appeal of socialism and communism on paper was that it refuted what the colonized were being told by their colonizers, root and branch. Given self-determination, not a lot of folks wanted to recapitulate the system they’d already experienced.

Ted Cruz said nice things about Mandela and got hammered on Facebook.

So tea has caused more shit than booze?

362 Gus  Fri, Dec 6, 2013 6:33:34pm

Unbridled capitalism is the leading cause of communism. This is a pro-capitalist statement.

The history of bringing tea to India is some James Bond stuff.

Hyper-tech bombers don’t exist to drop bombs. They exist to scare the shit out of people who can’t afford them.

I had the great luck to be a passenger on a KC-135 refueling flight that refueled the B2. Seeing it about 25 feet away from you, in the air and watching the boom operator working with the pilots in both planes to coordinate this inflight coitus…. Freaking amazing, nothing like looking out on a billion dollars behind you. The tech gains from building and operating this plane have lots of valuable spin offs.

And, it is pretty damned cool looking… :)

Oh, and BTW, it dipped into the 30’s last night, where I live, that is a heresy…I have Papaya, Banana, Passion Fruit, Guava, Plumeria, Kiwano, Blood Orange, Pomegranate, Dragon Fruit and Pineapple plants…lots and lots of frost cloths, portable heaters and big radiating incandescent lights.

I was able to move my coffee plants indoors.
