Cue Giant Right Wing Freakout: Obama, Cuba’s Raul Castro Shake Hands at Mandela Memorial

You knew they would do this
World • Views: 23,988

Your gigantic unison right wing freakout of the day: Obama, Cuban President Raul Castro Shake Hands at Nelson Mandela Memorial.

President Obama shook hands with Cuban President Raul Castro today at a memorial service for the late Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

Obama stopped to shake Castro’s hand as he was walking to the podium to pay tribute to Mandela. The handshake between the presidents of the long-estranged Cold War rivals came at a ceremony honoring the life and legacy of the former South African leader at a soccer stadium in Johannesburg.

Breitbart “News” leads the two-minute hate: CNN: OBAMA-CASTRO HANDSHAKE SHOULD ‘NOT BE MISUNDERSTOOD’!!!

Here’s how propagandist John Nolte describes the handshake:

For those who believe in human rights and liberty, the sight of our president bounding up some stairs to energetically shake hands with Raul Castro, dictator of Cuba, was more than a little unsettling — regardless of the circumstance.

I swear, these hateful morons can’t even write one sentence without being dishonest. Obama was “bounding up some stairs” because that’s where the podium was. He wasn’t rushing up there because he was so incredibly eager to shake hands with Raul Castro — it’s where he had to go to give his speech. Good grief.

And there are currently more than 2000 absolutely disgusting, openly racist comments, of course.

It’s extremely telling that the RWNJs are focused on a handshake (or a selfie) or anything else other than President Obama’s moving tribute to Nelson Mandela.

Yeah because no Republican president was ever amiable to a despot ever. We’re to believe that Nixon and Kissinger never shook hands with Mao whose crimes make Raul Castro’s look like stealing a lollipop.

It’s not about disagreeing, it is about hating. It is about hating loudly and proudly and taking every opporunity to demonstrate who you hate and how much.

I’m sure those people think of themselves as patriots, Christians, and Real Americans.

Funny. Almost all of the President’s speech was about Mandela. And when he mentioned himself, it was to make the point that Mandela inspired him and he would always fall short of his example. It wasn’t self-aggrandizing at all.

And they for sure don’t want to focus on the huge, extended cheer he got — wouldn’t want to admit how many people around the world *LOVE* our President. And have a higher opinion of our country for having elected him. (Bush did not get such a warm welcome).

This is just amazing to me.

Nelson Mandela died, so the wingnuts screamed and cried about communism and how Madiba was a genocidal tyrant. Barack Obama goes to the memorial and eulogizes him and these imbeciles focus on handshakes and selfies instead of what was said.

Today was an historic moment. The first black American president paid tribute to the first black South African president, who inspired him into politics in the first place. That’s huge. But you wouldn’t know it by the freakouts over handshakes and selfies.

The American right wing has never recovered from the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. They need that kind of paranoia and fear in order for their lives to have any meaning.

I wonder how many Obama-haters know about the protests in Ukraine over its relations with Russia. For anyone who cares about the Cold War, this is a very big story.

I’m concerned that if Putin gets his way with Ukraine, this would be a step in the direction of reconstituting the Soviet Union. Of course, we’re not talking about all 15 USSR republics. But Russia and Ukraine were “the big two”.

While the grown-ups are handling the Ukraine situation, right-wing nut jobs think the big current Cold War issue is that President Obama behaved politely at a funeral. Good thing they watch Fox News and are well-informed.

54 Shiplord Kirel  Tue, Dec 10, 2013 11:32:00am

“It gives Raul some propaganda to continue to prop up his dictatorial, brutal regime, that’s all,” McCain said of the handshake between the two world leaders that took place at a memorial service for Nelson Mandela.

When asked if Obama should have extended his hand, McCain was quick to respond.

“Of course not,” the senator said. “Why should you shake hands with somebody who’s keeping Americans in prison? I mean, what’s the point?”

Then, after a slight pause, McCain went there.

“Neville Chamberlain shook hands with Hitler,” he added.

Well, no, he’s not really getting it, because the founders did intend other religions than Christianity.

Do be so kind as to mention that to Antonin Scalia the next time you see him.

Google Images doesn’t readiloy yield any images of Churchill shaking hands with Stalin. There are variations of this:

Churchill probably not only shook hands with Stalin but probably enjoyed a drink with him too.

It’s adorable to see wingnuts pretending like they care about Mandela and Mandela’s legacy after they you know worship a president who defended apartheid despite its overwhelming unpopularity.

Lots of stories of drink, but one side or the other was worried about photos, for a guess.

Because it shows class to go to a funeral and call most of the people attending a scumbag to their face for everyone to hear. They wouldn’t mind it if you did it at their friend or family members funeral.

Nice work with all the images everyone.

Too bad it won’t change one wingnut mind that is already made up and convinced Obama pals around with commies that started his presidential coup from his apartment with guys like Bill Ayers and Saul Alinsky.

They know once out of this country the not-real-American-Kenyan Obama comes out and starts celebrating with all kinds of bad, bad people.

Yes, because we all know that the President going to the funeral of a world leader, in the company of everybody who is ANYBODY in universe, isn’t aware that there might be one or two photographers / journalists there by chance. WHAT KIND OF MORONS ARE THESE!!!!

The Obama Derangement Syndrome is as stupid as the Bush Derangement Syndrome, these people have been fed daily anger and hate on the radio for years, they need to be continually outraged! (lest they actually have to think)

It’s extremely telling that the RWNJs are focused on a handshake (or a selfie) or anything else other than President Obama’s moving tribute to Nelson Mandela.

I just wonder how they’d treat Saint Ronny Raygun’s friendliness to Gorbachev today.

Fracking idiots.

134 Robert O.  Tue, Dec 10, 2013 3:58:02pm

Somewhere on the Intertubes, there exist photos showing Bush not only shaking hands with the King of Saudi Arabia, but of the two holding hands, dancing, and the King placing a medal around Bush’s neck. Bush obviously wanted Sharia Law in America.

I’m really really having a damn hard time feeling sorry for Cornyn.

Can anyone suggest what I could possibly do to start to care for the plight of this renowned Senator? I’m betting the Lizards will have some very helpful suggestions!

Have you considered trepanation?
