But the Lion King song was actually originally written by an African dude, and would be more appropriate, vaguely.

Not really, though, it’d be like playing El Rey at the death of a Canadian politician.

From the decision:

Respondents are ordered to:

(1) Cease and desist from descriminating against Complainants and other same-sex couples by refusing to sell the wedding cakes or any other product Respondents would provide to heterosexual couples; and

(2) Take such other corrective action as is deemed appropriate by the Commission, and make such reports of compliance to the Commission as the Commission shall require.

Poor Republicans are pissing themselves with worry that, should they be fortunate enough to regain the White House in 4, 8, or 16 years, there won’t be any evil-doers to get upset about, and they’ll have to invent one themselves.

Two Britons in U.S. plead guilty to terror-related charges

reuters.com

(Reuters) - Two British nationals who ran a website that promoted jihad and supported al Qaeda pleaded guilty in a U.S. court on Tuesday to charges of providing material support for terrorists.

“The men, Babar Ahmad and Syed Talha Ahsan, each said in U.S. District Court in New Haven, Connecticut, that they were guilty of two counts of providing support to terrorists for running the site, which raised funds for Muslim militants in Afghanistan and Chechnya.

“Ahmad faces the possibility of up to 25 years in prison and two to five years’ probation. Ahsan faces up to 15 years. Each could be fined up to $500,000.”

Getting a loan, a.k.a. going into debt: Not a smart idea for the Little Guy, not at this point in time. And in any case, just a way for the Rich Guy to leech more funds off of the Little Guy for absolutely no effort. Interest is the life-killer.

Rich people do not buy American when it comes to cars/boats/etc. They buy Italian, German, and other such exotic luxury import brands. This does not help The Little Guy one bit.

“Never taken a paycheck from a poor person” is old, tired, and false for the majority of Americans. The reality of Small Business is that most of them are no better off than the two or three people they employ — they just have a mountain of debt masquerading as wealth.

Historical data flatly disproves the idea that More Treasure For The Wealthy produces jobs or wage increases. Real wages have been flat since the 70s, even NEGATIVE in some years (like recently!), yet the wealth gap has only been growing. The Rich Get Richer, and none of it ‘trickles down’. If anything, it just gets outsourced.

re: #108 makeitstop

I think that kind of data somehow worked into the NY Post/Newsmax article claiming to have debunked the story that the NYT has been running about homeless kids in NYC, including Dasani.

The Newsmax article claims that the family would have gotten about $500,000 from 2000 to present in housing, food, and other government assistance. That breaks down to about $38,461 a year (for the 13 year period). Housing assistance is the biggest part, but conditions where these folks are put up is substandard and not worth anything near what has been spent. That’s a serious issue that the City has been struggling to deal with for years, but the City simply isn’t building enough affordable housing anywhere in the City, and that’s even with requirements for new housing projects like Atlantic Yards or the buildings in Hudson Yards or LIC or Williamsburg to devote significant percentages of the units for affordable housing. Much of that housing has yet to be built as well.

What would increase the chances for more affordable housing to be built is adjusting zoning and changing the rules to increase densities.

I don’t know why all the “secular” Christmas music has to be so syrupy and cloying and just downright stupid, lyrically and even melodically. It’s enough to make me wish there really WERE a War on Christmas. I’d enlist.

With a few exceptions, I find the more religiously-oriented traditional Christmas music far less objectionable, sometimes quite pleasant, which is amusing considering that I’m about as atheist as one can get without being a controversial British author.

If welfare benefits are more generous than working, it’s because working is paying less and less, not because welfare is paying more and more. The same people who complain that welfare pays more than work also oppose any rise in the minimum wage, and any sort of ‘Living Wage’ legislation. Their position amounts to insisting that welfare must always pay less than work, no matter how little work pays, thus pushing even more people into the labor force, increasing the supply of labor without increasing demand for labor. Wages can only drop in that scenario.

Now, of course, if you took the opposite approach, and said, “Welfare pays more than work, so let’s make work pay more”, you’d be pumping money out of corporate coffers into the economy, more people would buy stuff, and more people would be needed to make, distribute, sell, and do stuff.

There are South African blacks who have told friends of mine they wish it was back because the country was safer, if you can believe that.”

Some of it is racism, some of it is sheer cussedness. It hurts these people to say anything positive about Mandela, and they do not get paid to remain silent, so we get this sort of shit coming out. We aims to please.

Basically, the Cato report assumes that welfare recipients are getting every possible benefit — TANF and Medicaid and SNAP and WIC and public housing and utility assistance and free commodities.

The story cited below shows the lies in that assumption:

With less than 10% of SNAP households also receiving TANF, and less than 3% of Medicaid households receiving SNAP, it’s easy to see that Cato’s “typical welfare family” is actually based on an extreme case, not on anything that any of us would consider to be an “average.”

No Doubt did a cover of this song in the 90’s, but I prefer the original.

Meanwhile, in Toronto, Rob Ford shows that he can get even more disgusting.

Maybe Ford should think about what his own behavior is doing to his kids instead of trying to smear a reporter with vicious and vile accusations.

Oh, man. That’s the saddest. At least Bing smiles when he sings that.

That one brought tears to my eyes, but it’s not sad, although I don’t know the lyrics.

Weird—a commercially sponsored flash mob that worked perfectly. If you don’t speak Zulu, it’s a demo of the line from the ear to the emotions.

It’s very revealing that they think what’s going on at Twitchy is “humor” and “fun.” It’s one of the ugliest, most vicious right wing sites on the web right now.

Which is exactly like a lot of Republican/Wingnutia humor.

Somebody yesterday mentioned Pomplamousse, I listened to about 2 bars of “Deck The Halls” and yes, I did want to stick a screwdriver in my ear.

That would be me. Sorry to have inflicted that upon you. They are horrible.

HEY!!! I take offense at that image!

Not all Ohio people are scared of the snow. There is a line about mid-state. Anyone that lives about 40 miles north of a east-west line from Columbus can handle snow. Those up in the area east of Cleveland get as much as upstate New York.

Now Cincinnati, yep…they struggle. Columbus is about 50-50 due to the fact that many northern Ohio types (like me) are plenty used to and enjoy some snow.
