GOP Staffer Ryan Loskarn Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Authorities had to break down his door
Crime • Views: 21,617

This is an awful story, as Sen. Lamar Alexander’s (R-Tenn.) former chief of staff (Alexander fired him when the news broke) is caught red-handed with a collection of horrific child porn.

Loskarn possessed a hard drive filled with “hundreds of videos depicting underage boys engaged in sexually explicit conduct,” according to the complaint against him.

He allegedly did not respond when police knocked on his door with a search warrant on Wednesday. When authorities used a ram to force the door open, an investigator saw Loskarn lean out a second-floor window and appear to place something on the roof, according to the complaint. That object was later determined to be a portable hard drive that contained videos of both underage girls and boys being abused, the complaint says.

I’ve worked a couple cases in the IT field where we’ve tracked down or come across child porn owners. It never gets easier. I want very bad things to happen to all of them for an extended period of time.

This guy wasn’t just a go-fer - he was pretty highly placed in the GOP. He was also staff director for the Senate Republican Conference Committee.

I’ve read the Marquis de Sade; all of his works.

And I can honestly say that statement against Loskarn is the sickest shit I’ve ever read in my life.

Indeed, he was a pretty big name.

Aide Arrested On Child Porn Charges Was One Of ‘GOP’s Top Strategists’

Loskarn, a 35-year-old Maryland native, has spent more than a decade in politics, and had served as Alexander’s chief of staff since 2011. He has been called “one of the Senate GOP’s top strategists and aides” and been named one of Roll Call’s “Fabulous 50.”

Over the past few years, Loskarn’s name had popped up occasionally in the D.C. media.

In 2010, Loskarn, who was then the staff director for the Senate Republican Conference Committee (SRCC), talked to Politico about how he spent his 32nd birthday, which fell on a weekend. The festivities included drinks at The Pug on H Street, the National Symphony at Kennedy Center, and a dinner at Taberna del Alabardero near the White House.

Roll Call reported on Loskarn’s appointment as Alexander’s chief of staff in 2011. The newspaper noted Loskarn’s past work for the SRCC, which included some time under former Sen. Jon Kyl. It also said he had worked for former Rep. Wally Herger (R-CA), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and the House Rules Committee.

“I am fortunate that Ryan Loskarn is willing to transfer his considerable skills from leading the Republican Conference to leading my Senate staff,” Alexander said at the time.

I had a tenant once who was arrested in a sting, thinking he was going to meet an underage girl, like we see on TV. The police however missed some stuff in the house and I found 6 DVDs that I turned over to the police. I won’t bother to describe what was on them.

Yeah, but I tend to put pedophilia in a whole different category from philandering, whoremongering, and closeted homosexuality.

This is not one of those times when the accused appears in front of cameras with his stonefaced but nominally supportive wife and begs forgiveness for his indiscretions. This is one obviously sick puppy, and I am unsurprised that he was dropped ASAP. And I don’t think less of those he worked for for having hired him in the first place, since it’s VERY unlikely they had any idea. It’s not like pedophiles all look like the creep on Family Guy.

I would love to dismiss that as hyperbole, but I’ve seen way too many cases where that’s exactly the reaction from RWNJs. I’m thinking that the gay liberal cabal must have a huge amount of jedi mind-control tricks to get a guy to pass as a conservative, get a position of great importance, and then in a sudden and dramatic event, ruin his life forever.

If it ever made sense to you, it should worry you, much like serial killing or the mass killing of random strangers. They’re broken, not reparable, and their minds don’t work like normal people’s, at least not in some areas.

True. It’s a sign that I’m sane and have an actual moral center, I suppose.

Found snip in post 2 that was not included in the ABC posting of the AP story. Post 2 is from my email webpage - Century Link.

There was quite a bit of speculation yesterday about evidence being planted.

re: #39 Dr. Matt

Speculation by….? Alex Jones? Glenn Beck? Bachmann?

re: #47 Decatur Deb

Earlier Freep threads. Later comments backtrack it.

Rigggghhht, the poor guy had just discovered that all of that childporn had been maliciously uploaded to his portable hard drive just seconds before the police started pounding on his door.

Of course it goes without saying that he would have deleted it all if the people who were setting him up had given him time. Faced with the police at his door and no time to destroy the false evidence against him he did the only thing he could which was to try to hide the drive on his roof. It all makes perfect sense if you don’t think about it too hard.

re: #85 A Mom Anon

They are broken. However, they should not be consigned to a life of being raped in prison. IF they get out, and many do, being raped isn’t a “lesson” for anyone no matter the crime. I am glad this guy was caught and hope he spends a long time locked up. But the chances of rehabilitation are slim, even in the best circumstances. Our prison system tends to make the sickness worse, not better. If he gets out, he’s not going to be cured or learn a damned thing except more rage and violence.

1. Totally agree on not allowing, and certainly not CELEBRATING sexual abuse of ANYONE, at any time. If they need to be separated from the general prison population, then they absolutely should be.

2. “Sex Crimes” aren’t like other crimes. Those who perpetrate them won’t stop because of punishment. That being the case, we need to stop treating them like other crimes. If we can’t fix them, we can’t let them out. They don’t need to be in tiny cells all their lives, but they should not be let out. Ever.

6 million have died in the DRC in the last 10 years?

I don’t think I quite understood that before.

I just went to a charity fundraiser for Falling Whistles, which works to raise awareness about what’s going on in the Congo. Some friends of mine are heavily involved with them, so I went to support them. Learning about what’s going on over there was eye opening.

I know it’s bad from hearing Eve Ensler speak, and from an article I posted a while back about the men that are raped (which seems to be along the same rate as women). Excuse me for putting it these terms, but it’s how my brain works with numbers —6M is Holocaust numbers.

How can this be happening?

The thing they don’t seem to get is they’re not helping their case here that doing away with the filibuster prevents debate or dissent when they’re insisting that every vote be after 30 hours of them bloviating about such.

The Democrats would be smart to use these 30 hour periods to discuss other bills that get silently filibustered.

I noticed from the Statement of Facts that the United States Postal Inspection Service had a big role in this case.

The USPS has long been an example that conservatives hold up as government waste and excess. If you got rid of the USPS, would crimes like this even be investigated?

Guess maybe shrinking government to the size where you can drown it in a bathtub isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Crain’s NY had an editorial calling for the elimination of the NY estate tax because folks with an estate of $1m or more would have to pay 16% of that in tax.

That would leave their heirs… wait for it…$840,000.

Before the feds changed the estate tax, the states that imposed their own estate tax would have the amount deducted from their federal obligation, so there’d be no additional tax. Now? NY gets to keep the tax collected.

There’s a plan afoot to amend the tax to match the $5.25 million federal exemption and to lower the state’s rate to 10%. Yet, this editorial is arguing even that is insufficient to reduce the tax burden on millionaires.

Big-ass disconnect.

U.S. Census Bureau shows 114,000,000 total households in the U.S. as of 2010.

The “World Wealth Report” for 2007 reveals some 840,000 households with a net worth of over $5 million.

According to that guy’s thinking, even if you’re in the top 1% you’re still middle class.

I’ve had wingnuts argue that any kind of estate tax is immoral. They don’t exactly specify HOW it’s immoral, they just think it is. Mind you, some of the same folks think that taxes on capital gains should also be eliminated. It seems as if taxing the rich AT ALL is immoral.

I knew when I saw Alexander replace him so quickly as his DC CoS that these were going to be very serious charges which no doubt could be substantiated with evidence.

Authoritarianism of a sexual kind perpetrated on trusting children who look to adults to protect and care for them is still authoritarianism, but it is also the lowest form of punishment of them, short of killing them, which sometimes happens also.

And this kind of perversion just leads to more of it. Who but the most twisted, sick individuals could get “pleasure” from viewing this kind of horror?

At least we’re being honest now, and can cut to the chase. Wealth and privilege is now a viable, literal, overt defense, rather than merely being the subtext of a bunch of beating around the bush.
