Reminder: The Benghazi Hoax was Spun up by the GOP to Protect Mitt Romney

Romney Repeats Sharp Criticism of Obama After Benghazi, Cairo Attacks
Politics • Views: 35,010

As Mitt Romney continued to make missteps in his statements on Benghazi, the GOP had to close ranks around him to protect his campaign. It started almost during the attack with Romney slamming Obama over his statements regarding the anti-islamic film that we now know with certainty instigated the attack.

Once their media noise machine got too far down the path it was too late to turn back so they decided to recreate and re-imagine the events which eventually led to a market for the hoax, then the CBS book and Lara Logan’s hoax Sixty Minutes segment.

If you still doubt that the attack against us was treated as campaign fodder from start to finish by the GOP, please see this article from Dave Weigel that shines a blazing flashlight into the pit of the RNC’s insanity.

The situation started Tuesday night, with Romney accusing Obama of sympathizing with anti-American interests in the Muslim world — a common line of attack from the Republican.

But the timing of the statement — in the middle of the ongoing incidents in Libya and Egypt — led to an outburst of criticism that built as the night went on and intensified after Romney reiterated the charge at a hastily staged news conference here Wednesday morning.

“I think it’s a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values, that instead when our grounds are being attacked and being breached, that the first response of the United States must be outrage at the breach of the sovereignty of our nation,” Romney told reporters. “An apology for America’s values is never the right course.”

Update: Backlash tweets are coming in from the stalker blogs. Once the right spins up one of these kookspiracies it never dies because these far right bloggers have too much invested in their new mythos to let go. Benghazi will become an article of faith among them, and in their twisted history it will be a tale told to scare elders and children. Benghazi will be a horror story used to describe how bad the opposition is, just like that tale that you hear in GOP households during every election since my grandfather’s day about bus loads of illegal immigrants going poll to poll to illegally vote.

Magical thinking. All these myths and fairytales to cope, and none of the spells their grand wizards spin will wake them from this liberal nightmare.

They probably still believe the Lara Logan report, and her “witness”, too.

Because they’re deluded and grasping for a country in their own image.

They won’t get it.

No, that was just tactical. The administration’s initial misstep in saying that the attack on the consulate was a protest that got out of hand seemed to present Mitt Romney with an angle of attack and he used it. But the need to make headway in an election they were losing lead the Romney campaign to go over-the-top and try to turn the entire affair into a matter of ‘OBAMA LIED!!1’, whereupon things rapidly went off the rails.

The root cause of the “BENGHAZI!!1” insanity is the hatred some on the right have for Barack Obama.

So Romney decided he needed to bend over backwards to show how Right he could be, fell over and relied on the party to catch him and try to prop him back up?

This would be an object lesson for anyone who was capable of learning from their mistakes.

It was ‘Mitt’s turn’, but the passage of the ACA (a law which took many of its cues from Mitt’s healthcare law in Massachusetts) left the right very wary of Romney. A true first-rate candidate would have beaten Mitt, ‘his turn’ or not, but none ran in 2012. So Mitt Romney won the nomination, but he was hedged in by an angry right-wing that was unwilling to make nice and that featured a populism that worked against him.

So Mitt Romney went with pandering and “OUTRAGEOUS OUTRAGES!!1”, and lost. Given the advantages of incumbency in a presidential election, the likelihood was always that Obama would be reelected.

Here is a good brief on Darrell Issa’s appearance on Meet The Press today.

Link

Some bits…

…cut…

“It was accurate,” Issa said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “There was a group that was involved that claims an affiliation with al Qaeda.”

…cut…

Also appearing on Meet the Press, Kirkpatrick said that Republicans like Issa are conflating local Islamic militant groups with the international terror network founded by Osama bin Laden.

“If you’re using the term al Qaeda to describe even a local group of Islamist militants who dislike democracy or have a grudge against the United States, If you’re going to call anybody like that ‘al Qaeda,’ then, okay,” he said.

…cut…

While it dismisses the allegations of some of the White House’s biggest critics, Kirkpatrick’s report hardly paints a rosy picture of the intelligence community’s handling of the Benghazi situation.

“I would say in addition to inadequate security, there was a real intelligence failure here,” he told NBC’s David Gregory. “There’s a substantial C.I.A. operation tasked with trying to figure out what is a threat to American interests among these militias, and it’s clear that the United States fundamentally understood the dynamics of those militias.”

Basically Issa holds to his version of events. I guess we’ll see how much he still bangs that drum in the future or if he lets this all die down and picks up his gavel to go after Obamacare.

The last sentence of my post is the main reason:

Given the advantages of incumbency in a presidential election, the likelihood was always that Obama would be reelected.

A president running for reelection has an immense advantage over his challenger, given the powers of the office. As a result, presidents as a rule only lose reelection bids if the nation is having economic troubles and they face a primary challenge,

The primary challenge is important because without it the president is free to aim his primary funds at the other party’s leading candidates and he tends to still be well funded during the summer when his challenger is likely short of money. 2012 contained an example of this, as the Romney campaign had to take out a multi-million dollar loan to enable it to function until it could use its general election monies.

With the advantages an incumbent president has, the best contenders in the other party tend to wait till the next election when the sitting president is term-limited out.

So the good ones will be out in force running for pres in 2016?

So far the only ones I’ve heard making noises are Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, and Free Republic’s favorite Canadian, Ted Cruz.

25 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave of the waffle light)  Sun, Dec 29, 2013 9:10:16am

Obama was thought to be an incredibly easy mark, given the state of the economy and his fading support among his own base.

But no GOP candidate with any sense of self-respect was willing to pander to the frothing Tea Party base, which is a precondition for winning the nomination.

And the fact that the GOP took nutjobs like Bachmann, Cain and Santorum seriously shows how far gone the party had grown. They show no signs of having recovered.

Thanks for the answer.

Here is my take. Any Republican with a brain and actually astute as a politician and is truthful would not run due to the TeaParty and some of the other idiots in the party. The party is toxic and I think has been for some time. One of the reasons many great old Republican started to retire and move on during the Bush years.

I feel until the GOP purges its ranks and gets back to reality all they are going to be able to run is nut cases. It isn’t going to matter in the next election that there will be no incumbent. The ratings the GOP currently is saddled with, their stances on women’s issues, immigration, healthcare, jobs and just about everything else is going to haunt them for years.

Anyway…you would be right in any other era. In this Tea/Christian era, not so much in my opinion.

Time and time again the GOP has told you facts do not matter. They built this insane asylum called the GOP and are not going to admit they are wrong to anyone, not even themselves. The fringes they brought under their banner and the twisted citizens who buy it are not going away, because the GOP needs them. They lie every day, non stop, 24/7 because it works. Most people are too involved with the day to day reality of getting by to understand the facts. The Right Wing Nuttosphere also has the AM airwaves and a “news” channel to piss all over everyone daily. I see it for what it is as most do here. But the truth is, a large percentage of America does not. I talk to some everyday and it is sad to see that the ignorance is being spread so efficiently.

As long as Rush Limbaugh and his clones continue to wield power in the GOP, the winning candidates are just going to get crazier, or, like Romney, have to be incredibly wealthy so people like Limbaugh will give them a pass as long as they run far to the right.

I don’t see that changing in the foreseeable future.

Rain.

Did I mention rain?

I’ll take some of that, all we have gotten in the last two months is a few short drizzles. The Southwest Florida Water Management District (swfwmd aka. ‘swiftmud’) just instituted “phase 2” water conservation rules as of Dec. 26th.

This means the condo can only water the landscaping one day a week during very limited hours. I had replaced the majority of the sprinkler nozzles with “eco flow” ones to reduce our ground well water usage. Now I have changed them all back over the last two days because I need as much water as I can get out of them during the few hours they are allowed to run. :(

Edit: Figures, as soon as I posted that it started raining, I guess posting on here about lack of rain works kind of like washing your car does. Once you do, rain is inevitable? :p

I still can’t believe, well paid writers and handlers for Rand Paul, would let him walk into a college, and address well educated students (who were also mostly African American) and try to tell sell them the same bull$#$@.
I mean, rational people would at least acknowledge this historic event and then try to work around it from there. But these, otherwise intelligent people, seem willfully intent on the power of “If I believe it hard enough, it’s true”.

I think the video served as a rallying point. A propaganda tool used to exploit existing anti-US sentiment in Benghazi. Clearly, and an obvious point, not everyone was on the side of overthrowing Gaddafi. Libya still remains the breeding ground of the Lockerbie bombing, terrorism, etc.

102 Gus  Sun, Dec 29, 2013 11:14:34am

That anti-US sentiment in Libya remains and in fact is re-grouping with those that supported US involvement in overthrowing Gaddafi. Much to the point that some are calling the US presence there a form of neo-colonialism.

While at the same time anti-Americanism still remains as does people who did not want to get rid of Gaddafi. This is my perception of the Libyan people. Not US interests. Not the perception of Americans who can’t find Libya on a map. At the same time I think the idea that this happened **just because** of an anti-Islam video only serves to feed more Islamophobia from Americans who will now think, “see, they just murdered those people because of THEIR religion.” I don’t think that’s the case. If true, the video was just a tipping point for violence based on more secular reasons such as US involvement and what some will still see as neo-colonialism.

So let me see if I understand this: the protest at the Embassy in Cairo, which breached the compound, was because of intolerant Muslims who hate free speech, because Muslims are violent, intolerant thugs who attack whenever they feel insulted, and it was wrong for the Embassy to have expressed any sympathy with Muslim anger over the film.

Hoping the Power of a Bush Can Draw In Hispanics

Fighting the perception that Hispanic candidates struggle to win statewide Republican primaries, many party officials have pointed to the 2014 land commissioner’s race, which features George P. Bush, the odds-on favorite, whose mother was born in Mexico.

But many political observers in Texas say that Mr. Bush, the grandson of former President George H. W. Bush and son of former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida, should not be seen as the start of a trend. After all, Mr. Bush has a famous — and non-Hispanic — name. Candidates with Hispanic surnames are still expected to face challenges in Republican primaries in Texas.

Somehow, I don’t think American Hispanics are ignorant of the wealth divide in Mexico.

He’s more effective and he’s got the benefit of coopting some of the South Jersey Democrats. The bullying and boisterousness works and it appeals to Jersey residents because there are some things that do need to change, but it’s dual edged sword.

He gave NJ Transit a pass when he didn’t fire the rail chiefs when they flooded out their rail fleet by ignoring flood warnings ahead of Sandy. But perhaps the bigger problem is the GWB lane closures mess. His picks for the Port Authority purposefully engaged in political chicanery to punish Fort Lee politicians when they didn’t back Christie, and caused days-worth of traffic delays that affected public safety. That he demanded their resignation doesn’t change that these political picks go to his judgment of character, and he put their political operative character ahead of competence.

Emails show that there was definitely threat to life and limb, and Port Authority officials did nothing until one of Cuomo’s picks at the Port Authority brought it to swift end - and intimated that there might be illegality involved in the acts.

It’s a scandal that will keep on giving, and The Record has been at the forefront of trying to uncover what was really going on there.

So I figured I would invite a few people from the condo over on New years Eve to have dinner and watch a movie or something as 2014 approached. Thinking I would do something traditional I decided on a menu of Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, cauliflower with cheese sauce, and a light desert (yet to be determined).

It has been awhile since I bought a roast so sticker shock definitely struck me at the supermarket however. They now charge $11.95 a pound for a rib roast meaning that the one I bought set me back over $54.00. To add to my injury they wanted $3.99 each for tiny heads of cauliflower, and good quality aged extra sharp white cheddar was $7.99 for 8 ounces. Ouch…

Sure I could have gotten a cheaper cut of meat for the roast but none of the others had any fat at all on them. Seriously, none whatsoever, they had all been trimmed to the point of being nothing but solid meat. I’m trying to cook a roast, not bake a steak, thank you anyway idiots. (This healthy eating thing has gotten out of hand if you can’t even buy something ‘bad’ for you on the holidays anymore!)

Oh well, at least Yorkshire pudding is still cheap to make, as it was meant to be. Traditionally the English serve(d) Yorkshire pudding and gravy as a first course for people to fill up on before the more expensive meat dish was served.

BTW, a surefire, high rising, light and fluffy Yorkshire pudding recipe for you…

Ingredients:
4 large eggs.
Equal amount of milk (to eggs).
Equal amount of all-purpose flour (to eggs).
1/2 tsp. salt.

Equipment Needed:
Mixer or whisk.
Mixing bowl.
12 hole muffin tin (or two six holes), or a 13x9 baking pan or Pyrex pan.

Crack the 4 large eggs into a measuring cup and note the amount of egg, then pour the eggs into mixing bowl. Add an equal amount of milk to the eggs, add the 1/2 tsp. of salt and whisk or mix well.

Allow egg/milk mixture to sit until the air bubbles from mixing have subsided.

Sift or screen flour into egg mixture and and whisk or mix well trying to remove all lumps.

(If using a muffin tin to make individual puddings you should then put the mixed batter into a large measuring cup or other container that you can easily pour it from controllably.)

Cover the container and allow the batter to rest for at least two hours! Do not place batter in the refrigerator, it needs to warm to room temperature while resting.

Preheat oven to 425-450 degrees.

If using a muffin tin add about 1/4 of a tsp. of the roast drippings (or lard, bacon grease, or vegetable oil to each hole).

If using a 13x9 baking pan add about two Tbsp. of the roast drippings (or lard, bacon grease, or vegetable oil) spread over the pan surface.

Place the muffin tin or pan in the pre-heated oven just until the drippings/fat begins to smoke.

After placing the pan in the oven give your batter mixer a quick last stir or light whisk in case some flour has settled to the bottom.

Remove the smoking pan from the oven and quickly pour in batter mixture, (Muffin holes should only be filled about 1/3 full). The batter mixture should sizzle when poured onto the drippings/fat in the pan.

Quickly place pan back into the oven on the center rack and cook for about 15 minutes or until deeply golden brown over most of the puddings surface. (puddings will rise well above the pan (4-5 inches) while cooking so make sure the rack is in the center of the oven)

Makes 12 individual puddings or one 13x9 pudding, serves 4 to 6 people (MUST be served with gravy).

Good resource links gratefully accepted.

I’d have to know more about what their argument is, but higher average temps means atmosphere will hold more moisture and all it takes to convert moisture in the air into snow and from there, ice, are temps below zero. If the average temp goes from -20C to -10C, an increase of 10C, the new temp is still below zero.

New ice floating around the Antarctic/Arctic is predominantly fresh water ice, it comes from moisture in the air condensing. Sea water turning to ice takes years and years to build up.

You know how a domestic protest can start off with peaceful protesters and general hooliganism when all of the sudden a dozen or so break away and start torching and overturning patrol cars. It becomes a very unstable and fluid situation. Sort of what happens when the “black shirts” show up at a protest.

When the Danish cartoons were published, they hardly caused a stir, but they were taken abroad and spread throughout the Muslim world by people seeking to incite outrage. It worked.

A lot of people in these countries do not understand the concept of a free press, they assume that anything that appears in print or on film must be government approved. The ones who spread the outrage know better, they are just manipulating the masses.

It’s not about ‘nerve’, its that forcing a confrontation would have disastrous consequences. Even if sane Republicans hold together and refuse to back down (which their is a good chance they would do), Fischer wouldn’t admit defeat and those evangelicals unwilling to accept such contradiction would leave the Republican party and either form their own faction and/or launch some sort of insurrection (the latter is unlikely but possible). The resulting loss for Republicans would leave the federal government entirely under Democratic control until 2018, at least (I’d wager 2022 myself). Sane Republicans fear that by the time they had a chance to regain any useful power the Dems will have set the country’s course unalterably leftward.

well considering what a great time we’ve had with it leaning rightward, I’d be altogether for that. Perhaps we might avoid another housing and financial market meltdown for a few decades, old people might actually be able to retire without fear of their medical benefits being altered for the worse, poor kids and families have a chance to at least be fed, some much needed infrastructure could be started to upgrade our power grid, incorporate some alternative energy sources and perhaps keep us from drinking our own filth, maybe we could see some progress on acceptance and working on climate change issues, perhaps even an improvement on our standing in the real world when we don;t have these histrionic, logic denying asshats holding the country hostage for the sake of their delusional melanin based bigotry.

re: #133 Charles Johnson

The RW narrative is so contradictory and screwed-up, it’s hard to make sense of it. But I think we’re supposed to believe the Obama administration needed to say they were beating Al Qaeda to get reelected, so they covered up evidence that Al Qaeda was involved.

It’s completely fucking batshit insane to think any president would cover up something like that, that could have been easily revealed to be false. But that’s how the right is these days. They’re just out there on planet Uranus.

The weirdest part about the whole “Susan Rice covered up Al Qaeda involvement to help Obama get re-elected” narrative is that Al Qaeda being involved actually came up in the Sunday show interviews, and Rice made zero effort to try and downplay or bury the possibility. From her Face the Nation appearance:

cbsnews.com

SUSAN RICE (Ambassador to the United Nations): Bob, let me tell you what we understand to be the assessment at present. First of all, very importantly, as you discussed with the President, there is an investigation that the United States government will launch led by the FBI, that has begun and-

BOB SCHIEFFER (overlapping): But they are not there.

SUSAN RICE: They are not on the ground yet, but they have already begun looking at all sorts of evidence of- of various sorts already available to them and to us. And they will get on the ground and continue the investigation. So we’ll want to see the results of that investigation to draw any definitive conclusions. But based on the best information we have to date, what our assessment is as of the present is in fact what began spontaneously in Benghazi as a reaction to what had transpired some hours earlier in Cairo where, of course, as you know, there was a violent protest outside of our embassy -

BOB SCHIEFFER: Mm-Hm.

SUSAN RICE: -sparked by this hateful video. But soon after that spontaneous protest began outside of our consulate in Benghazi, we believe that it looks like extremist elements, individuals, joined in that- in that effort with heavy weapons of the sort that are, unfortunately, readily now available in Libya post-revolution. And that it spun from there into something much, much more violent.

BOB SCHIEFFER: But you do not agree with him that this was something that had been plotted out several months ago?

SUSAN RICE: We do not- we do not have information at present that leads us to conclude that this was premeditated or preplanned.

BOB SCHIEFFER: Do you agree or disagree with him that al Qaeda had some part in this?

SUSAN RICE: Well, we’ll have to find out that out. I mean I think it’s clear that there were extremist elements that joined in and escalated the violence. Whether they were al Qaeda affiliates, whether they were Libyan-based extremists or al Qaeda itself I think is one of the things we’ll have to determine.

It’s also worth noting, once again, the ridiculous number of qualifiers Rice added, throughout all her Sunday Show appearances, to make it crystal clear how preliminary the intelligence was at the time.

Yeah, I remember Romney accusing Obama of sympathizing with the anti-American interests in the region. It was an assine move by an asshole. So, yeah you’re absolutely right. The whole Benghazi crap by the right and GOP has just been a way of covering Mitt’s ass after he accused the president of sympathizing with the people who murdered Ambassador Stevens and the other three victims that day.

Birthers for Ted?

What I find amusing is that Jimbo at FreeRepublic has declared that Ted is a NBC and is his choice for president. They have had a bit of a purging over there about it.

Personally I think a much stronger case could be made for Obama as a NBC (a term which has never been absolutely defined) than for Cruz. The fact that Cruz has a Canadian citizenship by birth as opposed to Obama who was born in the US. It’s not something that I’m going to lose sleep over however.

What I love about Cruz being the popular pick among the “true conservatives” is he has on the surface a bit in common with Obama. Immigrant fathers, Ivy League lawyers, first term senators, senator from bright blue/red states, and popular with the liberal/conservative wings of the party bases. However, Cruz is different from Obama in the more crucial areas and that’s why Cruz won’t ever be president.

Here’s interesting an bill:

Bill seeks to allow medicinal marijuana users to legally purchase and possess firearms (VIDEO)

Colorado Representative Jared Polis introduced a bill last month that would reinstate the right of medicinal marijuana users to legally purchase and possess firearms, a right which has been expressly denied by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for nearly two years.

In September 2011 the ATF released a memo “to provide guidance on the issue” of “marijuana for medicinal purposes and its applicability to Federal firearms laws.”

Assistant Director for Enforcement Programs and Services, Arthur Herbert explained in the memo that federal code prohibits anyone from possessing firearms who is “an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance.”

“Any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether or not his or her state has passed legislation authorizing marijuana use for medicinal purposes, is an unlawful user of or is addicted to a controlled substance and is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition,” Herbert added, also reiterating that a person holding a medical marijuana registration card is enough cause to deny the purchase of a firearm.

Jared Polis is a Democrat, BTW. But his bill might pass, since its the kind of bill the NRA likely would support.

Thoughts?

I have always wondered how the Libyans even found out there was this lame, stupid video. Did someone deliberately send it to “certain” people to make sure it would go viral? And who did that?

As I recall the makers of the video either sent it or a link to it to a newspaper editor in Egypt. He’s the one who broke the story and that’s how it went viral.

Here’s an annotated google map that was put together at the time. Read each story of a riot and you’ll see that it references the video. More than 50 different incidents around the globe during the exact same timeframe as the Benghazi riot, and every single one of the news stories references that anti muslim video, yet people are supposed to believe that Benghazi was the sole outlier. We’re supposed to believe that the Benghazi attack was the sole incident during this period that was in no way attributable to that video.

Under Federal Law Marijuana is illegal in all circumstances -no?

Some states recognize medical marijuana as legal.

so I guess it would only be a federal crime if one crossed state lines from a medical marijuana state to a non-medical marijuana state.

I was prescribed Dilaudid after a foot operation. Not really being familiar with it, I had it filled and had only taken 2 or 3 when I had to stop because I got nauseated and “spacy”. I wouldn’t have been able to drive a car under the influence of that drug. I quit taking them and didn’t even need aspirin because there was really not much pain at all.

I think drs are very quick to prescribe something for people that many do not tolerate very well, in one way or another. I’ve had 2 dentists in the last month try to prescribe me an opioid which I refused. I bought some Aleve and didn’t even open the bottle after I had a molar extraction. I suppose I have a very high tolerance for pain and a very low tolerance for drugs.

re: #306 Dark_Falcon

The difference being that those substances are legal with a prescription under federal law while marijuana is not.

That’s not a difference, it’s a thin, bullshit distinction. Dilaudid will knock a person flat on their ass. There’s a whole host of psychoactive HCl compounds that actually influence thoughts and behavior, that are designed and prescribed on that basis and many have violent or suicidal ideation as a known side effect. We don’t mess with the rights of people taking those drugs and there’s far FAR more reason for us to do so in those cases.

Well at least Cruz has a comic book that calls him a superhero, talk to me when Obama gets one of those for himself!

I thought you original post was about legal (medical) marijuana —which I guess is a states rights vs federal law thing.

Under Federal Law Marijuana is illegal in all circumstances -no?

Some states recognize medical marijuana as legal.

so I guess it would only be a federal crime if one crossed state lines from a medical marijuana state to a non-medical marijuana state.

Yes but the ATF form you fill out is Federal. That’s his point. The underlying reasoning for the ban is still bullshit though.

Marijuana being legal under state law does not make it legal under federal law. And while the DEA can decline to arrest you for having a pair of marijuana cigarettes, the FBI does not have such discretion when given your name for an NICS check. They must say the person in question is prohibited from buying a gun and the ATF must enforce that prohibition. Only Congress can change the law and allow those agencies to act differently.

Everyone’s a Biblical Literalist Until You Bring Up Gluttony
Snip..

We may laugh at these examples or dismiss them silly, but the biblical language employed in these contexts is actually pretty strong: eating shellfish is an abomination, a bare head is a disgrace, gossips will not inherit the kingdom of God, careless words are punishable by hell, guys who leer at women should gouge out their eyes.

Heck, you could make a pretty good biblical case for gluttony being a “lifestyle sin” that has been normalized by our culture of “Supersized” portions and overflowing buffet lines, starting with passages like Philippians 3:19 (“their god is their belly”), Psalm 78: 18 (“they tested God in their heart by demanding the food they craved”), Proverbs 23:20 (“be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat”), Proverbs 23:2 (“put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite”), or better yet, Ezekiel 16:49 (“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.”)

Good read if you’re bored.

Medical MJ “prescriptions” don’t show up in an NICS check. So far this is only an issue for those people either stupid or idealistic enough to present a medical MJ card as a form of identification, and all that happens to them is that the permission for purchase is denied by the store / ffl holder.

In any event as long as the private face to face loophole stays open and they live in a state that hasn’t closed it they can purchase that way.

Exactly. The way shit is vs. the ways you can step around it.

In any event our gun laws will continue to be a joke until we do something about the handguns. Putting all handguns under the auspices of the National Firearms Act would, over a few decades, go a long way towards cracking down on the vast majority of gun crime.

Focusing on MJ users, assault weapons and magazine capacity won’t really do much because at that point we’re focusing on the remaining 15% or so of the problem. Go after handguns and you’ve got the bull by the horns.

One of the problems right now is that the “functional” legality (if there is such a term) is really dependent on what the FedGov wants to focus on. If they take a blind eye approach to what states have legalized / de-criminalized then all is good, but what happens if / when a different administration decides that marijuana needs to be suppressed? In that case even if the state has approved your dispensary for example, you are always going to be looking over your shoulder for the DEA.

Some types of confectioner sugar may contain starch, would would make it not kosher for Passover, but all regular sugar, and salt is kosher.

What is commonly called “kosher” salt is really not any MOAR KOSHER than regular salt, but it’s coarser and is traditionally used for salting meat to draw out the blood, but now it’s used for fancy shmancy cooking.

True. But flip-flopping around on the enforcement after it was “eased” will draw even more questions about the law in this environment of it changing naturally. If people start to question it all more and more they will also be forcing their congressperson to legislate. Change always has its ups and downs and can be messy. Sometimes the mess hastens things.

I mean, that’s not even as high a tax rate as we had under Eisenhower.

Except here, a lot of millionaires are not paid wages but earn their riches from capital gains. It’s the capital gains tax that we really need to look at - maybe make it a progressive tax as opposed to a flat rate across the board? I’m not really sure how best to solve the problem without trashing the market.

75% tax on 1 million Euros? I vote no. I also wouldn’t vote for any candidate that supported that. France can do whatever it wants.

Gorilla Tape is the bee’s knee’s indeed; it’s almost like light canvas with a Gorilla Glue (as far as strength) backing.

Especially when they take to playing Russian roulette with five loaded chambers and one empty.

I’d regard that as evolution at work.

Facebook sucks so much I have just about decided to stop trying to use it. Took four minutes to load their sign in page, plus 2 more to get it to accept my password, then I waited ten minutes for my page to load well enough to post an update. I closed the window before it had done so. This is a common occurrence any more, especially the incredible sign in times. I don’t know or care what they are doing but the largetst web site in the world should at least be able to keep a connection going.

Today I made Brioche.
It requires a pound of butter. A WHOLE POUND OF BUTTER.
That’s not even counting the butter that you spread on it.

Another reason to avoid getting fat: Keep the locals from thinking I am an invading Lubbockite out to pillage the fringes of the Metroplex and endanger life and limb with Lubbock driving habits. Lubbockites are the boorish rubes the locals make fun of around here.

One tip if you use gorilla glue (or any of the other poly based glues). They WILL stain your fingers dark brown if you get it on them. Takes several hours for it to show up, but once it does it’s there until it eventually wears off. Trust me on this.
