WaPo/ABC Poll: Most Americans Say Snowden Harmed US Security, Want Him Prosecuted

The public has grown less sympathetic as more secret documents have been revealed
US News • Views: 27,462

Bad news for the Snowden/Greenwald axis and their pursuit of immunity from prosecution: the American public’s not going for it.

The Times writes that “the shrill brigade of his critics say Mr. Snowden has done profound damage to intelligence operations of the United States, but none has presented the slightest proof that his disclosures really hurt the nation’s security.”

But Americans see things differently. Sixty percent said they believe his disclosures harmed U.S. security, according to a November Washington Post-ABC News poll. And 55 percent said they think he did the “wrong thing” in leaking information to the media about the government’s sweeping surveillance efforts. Snowden has shared his information about the NSA programs with The Washington Post.

More than half of Americans (52 percent) said that Snowden should be charged with a crime for disclosing the NSA’s sweeping intelligence-gathering efforts. Just 38 percent said he should not be charged. (The Times, it should be noted, isn’t saying that Snowden shouldn’t be charged at all. It’s simply vouching for leniency.)

Support for prosecuting Snowden crosses party lines (highly unusual in these days of the government shutdown), as the following chart shows:

And an interesting footnote: as Greenwald and his cronies have disclosed more and more of the stolen documents (revealing NSA programs and secrets that have nothing to do with civil liberties), the public has grown more and more opposed to the Snowden public relations effort.

Americans have become less sympathetic to Snowden as additional programs have been revealed. In June, a Post-ABC poll found the public split 43 to 48 percent over whether he should be charged. Opinions changed one month later, with 53 percent saying he should be charged, a finding that held steady in November at 52 percent.

This poll actually correlates with what I found over the holidays, talking to friends who had previously been pretty supportive of Snowden. The Christmas message from Russia hit a lot of people the wrong way, which gives me hope for the future of humanity.

7 simoom  Fri, Jan 3, 2014 5:16:04pm

An old AP interview w/ Greenwald where he was asked again about his “dead man’s switch” claim:

bigstory.ap.org

Asked about a so-called dead man’s pact, which Greenwald has said would allow several people to access Snowden’s trove of documents were anything to happen to him, Greenwald replied that “media descriptions of it have been overly simplistic.

“It’s not just a matter of, if he dies, things get released, it’s more nuanced than that,” he said. “It’s really just a way to protect himself against extremely rogue behavior on the part of the United States, by which I mean violent actions toward him, designed to end his life, and it’s just a way to ensure that nobody feels incentivized to do that.”

He declined to provide any more details about the pact or how it would work.

I’m still puzzled why Bart Gellman attributed the claim to “US Government Officials” when he must have known it originated with Greenwald. I suppose he may have just been doing Greenwald a solid, by leaving him out of it, since they’re now both back on Team Snowden. Actually, thinking back to Greenwald and Gellman’s twitter spat, back after the first Snowden articles where published, maybe it was actually a bit of a shot across the bow.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Barton Gellman’s a lot more polished and non-repulsive than Glenn Greenwald, but he basically shares the same screwed-up libertarian ideology.

There’s other breakdowns for the poll you can find here:

washingtonpost.com

For example, support for prosecution among registered voters is slightly higher, at 55%. Sadly, support/opposition among self-indentified “Liberals” is about evenly divided at 45/47% It’s also weakest among the young, at 41/47 for 18-39 year olds. College grads are much more in favor of prosecution than most, at 62/30%. The NE and the South are also oddly more in favor of prosecution than the Mid-West and the West. Support also rises with income.

I was arguing with a dudebro over just that line of logic yesterday. I challenged him to name one American citizen arrested and held without trial under the provisions of the Patriot Act since Obama took office. His response? “They do it in secret, so how am I supposed to know?” It was with a great deal of self-control that my head didn’t end up going through the wall after reading that.

Well, not every independent is a dudebro, and every dudebro isn’t an independent; but many Libertarians are registered that way. I’m registered as “unaffiliated” only because of our weird primaries here in NC which are heavily skewed to Republicans. So I like to screw with them; I always vote Dem in the general, though.

One, if the person getting arrested isn’t making contingency plans, then they’re stupid. Two, if they really did get arrested secretly, it might be a bit harder to keep this secret in this age of internet connectivity. It’s not impossible, but it’s a little harder than people think…

My reaction was, “is this really the best they could manage?”

Team Snowden is given quality airtime to put out whatever message their hearts desire. A professional documentary filmmaker goes through the hassle of arranging a meet with Snowden, and flies out to Russia to film him. All that effort and opportunity, and that’s the script they write for him to deliver? And what’s with the waxen-skin lighting? The bad audio levels? The robotic delivery?

The other odd thing I noticed was there were a couple of cuts in the video. Perhaps some of it was removed to edit for time?

As the Internet has expanded and everybody become more connected to the web than ever before in human history, the amount of work the government would need to cover-up even one American’s imprisonment without trial would be prohibitive. All it takes is one person with a conscience and a smart phone to start the ball rolling.

Well… your dudebro has a point, however silly I think the specific issue is.

See, I’m a librarian. And I can recall in recent memory Ashcroft saying no libraries had been served with USAPATRIOT act secret warrants while knowing it to be absolutely untrue - and having to say “nobody knows because it’s a secret” to those who asked ‘which libraries’.

Yeah, that was under Bush’s administration. But the law, with minor changes, still remains. A surprisingly large number of people who had a say then are still in place.

And we’ve still got fear running rampant - Al Qaeda and the Iranians are going to nuke us all, for example.

So yeah, I’m doubtful. But I suggestion caution in completely dismissing the argument because we’ve already been there, recently.

Texas has open voter registration. The only time that party affiliation comes into play is during the primaries.

During a primary, your choose your party ballot and your voter card gets stamped with whichever party you voted for. Stamping your voter card means you can’t cross over to vote in the other party’s primary runoffs, or their party convention or even sign an independent candidate’s petition for a place on a ballot. You’re affiliated with the party you chose for the remainder of that calendar year.

You’d think that after 7+ months of allegations, Snowden would be able to show at least one example of the NSA abusing its powers. I mean, if the documents he has his hands on are as damning as alleged, surely there’s names of American citizens, businesses, or organizations whose private data has been obtained unconstitutionally and used by this administration or even the previous one in an illegal, immoral, and unethical fashion.

“These nations, including Russia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Ecuador, have my gratitude and respect,” he proclaimed, “for being the first to stand against human rights violations carried out by the powerful.”

That you’d mention Russia and first to stand against human rights violations carried out by the powerful in the same sentence shows just how disconnected you are from reality.

Pussy Riot was prosecuted and convicted for speaking out against Putin and the Church.

Politicians have been assassinated for having the wrong political views.

Journalists have been imprisoned.

Russia’s military forces don’t quite live up to the code of conduct that the US does and that’s with all the mistakes made by US forces over the years, up to and including UAV strikes that hit civilians whether in Somalia, Yemen, or Afghanistan and Pakistan.

But that Snowden’s gone this route is a tell on his intentions and political leanings.

It could also be that he’s sucking up to regimes that will shelter him from the long arm of US justice, but those countries aren’t going to wade into this mess unless they get something in return. For countries other than Russia, the cost-benefit analysis isn’t there. For Russia, however, they have much to gain.

Think back to when Greenwald began posting exclusives in the Guardian. He was busy claiming that the NSA ran amok without any oversight. That included spying on US citizens domestically.

The very same documents revealed something different, that the FISC was reviewing actions and that the NSA was prohibited from spying domestically without a warrant.

Then the story became that the FISC was rubber stamping NSA actions. The actual documents revealed something different, namely that the NSA had its actions rebuked and even found some of the NSA programs had overstepped their bounds.

In between, there were episodes where Greenwald misread the very documents he was claiming proved his point.

Now? Greenwald’s job is to muddy the waters and keep shouting that Snowden’s got more documents showing malfeasance by the NSA.

In a closed meeting with Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, business operators argued — sometimes forcefully — for lower taxes and more financial incentives for commercial interests.

A recently released video of the Dec. 9 session at Beloit College shows Kleefisch and state Revenue Department Secretary Rick Chandler extolling state efforts to reduce taxes since Republicans took over state government in 2011, and saying they wanted private-sector ideas for another round of cuts.

“We want to know how we can love you more,” Kleefisch told the group of about 30 executives, managers, accountants and others during the 1-hour, 40-minute session.

Indeed, since Day One, we’ve heard a lot of talk about the potential for abuse, but no actual examples of such. You’d think if it was as widespread and as uninhibited as alleged, one of those hundreds of thousands of documents in his possession would name at least one victim. Hell, according to Greenwald and crew, the government could steal your data and use it against you in a myriad of ways…yet they’ve never shown us anybody who fell victim to such.

Doing good. I’m going to play around in the workshop tomorrow, I’m starting to learn some new techniques and building up some new skills.

I got my “report card” in a way from work today, I trained a total of 624 people this year who gave me an average evaluation of 8.85 on a 9 point scale, so I’m pretty happy.

I’d love to play around with laser cutting of pieces, but the price to get into that game just isn’t worth it to me. I’d never recoup my investment and I’d still need somebody with graphics skills to actually layout the designs.

But I love working in my little shop, lets me burn off energy.

Yea… They are doing some really cool stuff in woodworking with laser cutting patterns. Its stuff that couldn’t be done with a scroll saw. I’ve seen blanks done with flames, patterns, but this is probably the most impressive I’ve seen on the market.

I’d almost be afraid to get that kit. One slip with the chisel on the lathe and it’s ruined. I’d definately have to do some turning practices and exercises before I turn it.

So Edward Snowden’s lawyer appeared on CNN this evening for a short interview and made what I thought was a very interesting comment, namely that Snowden had no secret data with him since leaving Hong Kong.

Perhaps I am giving his lawyer greater credibility than is reasonable, but the obvious question, if that is true, would be what then happened to the stolen files he had with him when he arrived in Hong Kong.

People who regard national security as a major concern are highly unlikely to hold Edward Snowden in fair regard.

We introduced them to each other over time. She’d come to the back porch for food and water and it was a process of letting them sniff each other at the door until they got used to each other. When I went out of town, the boyfriend opened the back door one day and she came inside. Older kitty followed her around but didn’t attack. By the time I got back, she’d all but moved in.

The two Feline Overlords got over their stuff pretty quickly. I am amused with how fast they got to the point where they can lay next to each other on the couch or hang out. There are a few hiccups, but overall it’s been pretty smooth. No major freakouts yet.

Because the dudebros entertain the fantasy of Snowden coming to America and testifying before Congress about all the “evils” of the NSA and the government, thus making him a “true patriot.” When you suggest he could do that during a trial, they sniff and say that there’s no way he’ll get a “fair trial,” so the only way he can be sure justice is done is by being absolved of his crimes.

And then in their fantasy, after he’s done testifying the hearing room sits in stunned silence. After a moment, one brave Representative begins a solitary slow clap. That one slow clap is picked up by the others in the room…which builds to a crescendo, the sound echoing through the halls of power. Those who seek to opress us hear the sound of the people’s fury rolling like thunder…

Speaking of fakes, I saw a really strange video on liveleak a couple weeks ago but I can’t find the link now. It was a Syrian helicopter dropping incendiary bombs. But the bombs didn’t look like professionally manufactured munitions, more like 8ft long tubes. A dude in uniform was lighting a fuse and pushing them out the open door of the chopper. The footage looked plausible, I really wish I could find the link but I seem to recall the dude lighting a fuse with a lighter. Would that even be possible in a helicopter with the doors open? It would seem that even the Syrians would have a more reliable detonator than string with gunpowder on it. Using a zippo around crudely made flammable juice bombs seems unwise.

Snowden lost any reasonable claim for clemency long ago. He shouldn’t have kissed up to countries with shitty human rights records that are also often hostile to the US to save his own ass in his half-baked plan.

But I’d love to seem him come back and face a public trial where we can really have a forum to think about the NSA programs and privacy in the US. This could make possible, with its high profile, an important moment in America when we think about what technology has given us and what it has taken away.

Allow him to return to the US and face X(~10) years in a medium security prison - if convicted - as long as he didn’t give or allow intel to Russia or China.

But the bombs didn’t look like professionally manufactured munitions, more like 8ft long tubes. A dude in uniform was lighting a fuse and pushing them out the open door of the chopper. Looked fake as hell to me (although I guess plausible). I checked the comments and nobody else seemed to question the authenticity.

There’s a lot of ‘ingenuity’ in the developing world. I’ve watched a Huey drop a 500 lb. cluster bomb experiment from its cargo hook.

Hmmm. 15 deg here so I’m making artisan (peasant) bread, 2 loaves are sitting out to go into the oven. Made a regular honey wheat yesterday and it’s almost gone. This is basic white, but I’m going to start experimenting.

These are made of the wet dough which I refrigerated overnight and the container was totally full this morning. This may get to be a habit. I love crusty bread like this. I’ve made French bread before and this is pretty much the same, except easier and only 4 ingredients—no kneading whatsoever, no bread machine, and I mixed the dough in the Bosch Compact, leaving it in the same mixing bowl to rise. It wasn’t too wet and very easy to handle and shape this morning. Recommend setting it in the fridge overnight. And steam is important in getting the crust right, so I’m going with the pan of water, not the covered baking utensil routine which some use.

If you’re interested, you can get the routine here: artisanbreadinfive.com

I just took a look at the Accuweather chart for Ostrava, and it’s forecasting temps in the mid to high 40s for the next several days. Normally, we’re in the mid 30s to mid 20s this time of year for daytime high temperatures.

I’m also not seeing a lot of precipitation, so that tells me that the ground’s going to be pretty dry come planting season this spring; not much snowpack in the mountains, either.

“The waters off the southern Philippines are rife with piracy, and the region is also a hotbed of Islamic militants.

“The nine fishermen had gone missing a day after Christmas following the attack off the town of Olutanga, Huesca said.

“Two other wounded fishermen in the party were recovered shortly after the attack and taken to hospital for treatment, he added.”

It’s not just Texas:

The Gainesville, Georgia school board voted on and approved a proposal Monday to purchase M4s to be kept at three of the district’s campuses for use by school resource officers, the Gainesville Times reported.

Three Colt 6920 M4 carbines will be purchased for Gainesville High, Gainesville Middle School and Wood’s Mill Academy. The rifles will be stored in safes which feature biometric technology and will only be accessible by the school resource officers by means of their unique fingerprints. However, the guns will not be stored at the school when the officers are not on duty. The estimated cost for the project is $6,000, which will be split evenly between the school district’s fund and the Gainesville Police Department.

“We have a very strong relationship with Gainesville Police Department,” Chairwoman Maria Calkins said. “We work with them every day to protect the kids and make Gainesville City Schools a safe place.”

In fact, it was the Gainesville Police Department who originally proposed the idea to purchase rifles for the schools nearly a year ago following the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Wisconsin state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R) is attempting to roll back one of the state’s progressive labor laws, arguing that workers should be allowed to work without a day off if they so choose.

“Right now in Wisconsin, you’re not supposed to work seven days in a row, which is a little ridiculous because all sorts of people want to work seven days a week,” he told The Huffington Post in an interview.

It’s a 5.56mm rifle, not a 7.62mm. It’s ability to penetrate barriers is quite limited already, and can be removed entirely by using specialized ammo. There are 5.56mm expanding rounds made that will cut a person up, but will fail to penetrate a normal wall as would be found in a school. Also, that particular model is semi-auto only according to the review, though ones made for police might well have a full-auto capability.

I can support flexible laws that allow seven days in a row if they are followed by several days off, but this Senator (why do I assume he is a Christian who otherwise respects the Fourth Commandment?) does not have anything like that in mind.

Several firms in Germany tried to institute a 36-hour work week, four nine-hour shifts with three days off. As a trade-off, though, plants would work regular Saturdays, although workers would not be expected to work every Saturday. Basically, three people would share two jobs and arrange shifts accordingly.

Unions here, who had fought for a five-day work week and saw free Saturdays as holy as well, shot it down.

Point is, the pure LIbertarian/Free Market view is that labor is just another commodity to be bought and sold for the sake of making a profit.

But human beings are not raw materials, they require rest, often have family and other commitments. In addition, human beings are in and of themselves the very reason for creating wealth and prosperity in the first place, not for the sake of profit.

These bastards are well aware of that, they are just trying to push it on us out of greed and self-interest.

Feline Overlords are hanging out on the south-side window sills. That’s due to the pigeons and starlings flying around and sitting on the window ledges on that side.

Given that the cats have access to heating and the birds don’t, the birds most likely envy the cats just about now.

I should’ve posted this yesterday, but today will do:

White House: New gun rules for mentally ill

The Obama administration proposed two new federal rules Friday that it said would provide more information about the mentally ill to gun-background-check databases.

The rules, proposed by the Justice and Health and Human Services departments, would allow the federal database access to some mental health records by giving it an exemption from existing privacy law and “clarify” that people involuntarily committed to both inpatient and outpatient institutions could be prohibited from purchasing guns.

SNIP

The proposed new HHS rule would allow HIPAA-covered agencies “an express permission to submit to the background check system the limited information necessary to help keep guns out of potentially dangerous hands,” the White House said.

The DOJ rule adding a gun purchase prohibition for those involuntary committed to mental health outpatient facilities would have prevented the shooter in the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre from legally buying a weapon because he had been ordered by a judge to seek outpatient mental health treatment.

The HHS rule is actually quite important, though lawsuits still may occur. It gives gives agencies dealing with mental health crucial legal cover when reporting data to the NICS.

Downloaded a couple of photos:

Bible is my great-grandfather’s and was purchased in 1881 according to his handwriting (in a nice cursive) inside. There is also a section that has his marriage certification, and has been filled in with birth, marriage, and death information for his children - which includes my fraternal grandmother being born in 1890.

The two holy cards are from a new priest doing his first Mass at the church they attended in 1907. The backs are signed by my grandmother and one of my great aunts.

Just real interesting to see this sort of thing.

I dunno. Maybe it’s just me, but from the time I was 19 till my mid early 40’s I was a self employed small biz owner so working 2-3 even 4 weeks at a time with no real “days off”, I never saw it as an issue.

Even now, since I work for a very large corp, because of the nature of the business, it still doesn’t faze me if I see that I’m scheduled for the next 13 out of 14 days or so

It’s just you. Some people want to - have to in some cases - do other things that require more than a few hours in darkness after a long day and drive to accomplish.

Look, here’s the problem with allowing employees to ‘voluntarily’ sacrifice their one day in seven: The playing field is unequal.

Joe, who has a wife and kids and thinks being a good parent means they see him for more than supper and bed, says ‘no’ when the company asks him to volunteer to give up his seventh day - to work the way you do habitually. The company decides to fire him (at will state, no cause required.)

I’ve always thought we had a mini-depression, not a recession, and it’s why I agree with this guy. This slow growth is troubling; we have to remember that it took a dozen years for the country to recover from the 1929 stock market crash, and might have taken even longer if WWII had not happened. We have an awful lot of people still not working, who have dropped out of the job market, people who are performing jobs beneath their skill levels, etc. It’s not “normal” in the least. Even HS dropouts in the past have been able to find jobs in the trades, factories and such and made a decent living, but that is no longer happening. There is absolutely no reason that a low level office worker, for instance, should have 14 or 16 yrs of education if public schools are doing their job.

Companies are no longer hiring very much, and hiring at living wages, they are no longer training employees, either, for better positions once hired. The onus for getting 1 or 2 more years of education to satisfy learning a skill that might be learned in a couple of weeks on the job is a waste of time and resources.

Growth still slower than I’d like to see: Fed’s Rosengren

Most labor law protects hourly ‘line’ labor. There are almost always different (or no) rules for management. That even extends into Fed employment, where I was “FLRA Exempt”. That means I was exempt from overtime pay, even when pulling 24 hrs in the TOC during month-long no-time-off deployments. Because I was a civilian, I was also exempt from combat pay in those days, about the only guy in my GP Medium tent not getting it.

Excuse the borrowing from Dirty Harry, but it was needed to introduce Smith & Wesson’s new revolvers for 2014. they range in caliber from the Performance Center (PC) 460 XVR’s .460 S&W Magnum, to the concealed carry ready 686 PC, a 7-shot model chambered in .357 Magnum.

Larry Pratt will likely say just that. The NRA hasn’t posted a statement on the new regulations but likely won’t object to the HHS rule. The NRA is highly unlikely to object to the DoJ rule (barring people involuntarily committed to outpatient mental health treatment), because the NRA wrote a similar rule for the state of Florida that was enacted into law last year.

“As a new storm slogs across the Midwest on Sunday into Monday, states such as Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin will see lows in the minus teens and minus 20s. And with sub-zero winds whipping through some areas, it could feel more like the minus 50s and minus 60s, meteorologists warn.

“It’s the mother lode of cold air,” Weather Channel coordinating meteorologist Tom Moore said. “On the heels of what will be the coldest air of the season, will be dangerous, life-threatening winds.”

Most presidents hate staying in the WH. It’s a bubble existence, and they all relish time away, whether it’s at Camp David, their own homes, or retreats elsewhere.

But as you say, no president is ever on vacation, even when away from the White House. They’re always getting PDBs, always getting intel, and having to make decisions that can’t be made at a lower level. Signing bills into law too. All part of the job.

Initially her tweets responding to the controversy were pretty dismissive so I assume management changed her mind. She does seem genuinely upset about it now but I have no clue if she’s just afraid for her job or genuinely regretful for doing something wrong. Either way, these forced apologies have been standard for a very long time now and I don’t think anything at the network is going to change. See, I just don’t think it was forced, and find it rude for you to call it that with the only evidence being her early tweets about it. Do you have any of those? I don’t see any before 12-31, and they are not dismissive.

That’s certainly a possibility but I don’t put a lot of faith in these scripted pundit shows. They are as fake as the scripted “reality shows”. The opinions, facts and scripts are written by a staff of writers and producers to make the show management wants. It’s entertainment for the sake of selling advertising.

14 killed in India building collapse

edition.cnn.com

“Most of the dead were construction workers, according to Goa’s police control-room officer, Sainath Kmorpant.

“It was not immediately clear how many people could still be trapped in the rubble, but Kmorpant said emergency crews were still clearing the debris more than four hours after the collapse was reported.”

Cause not yet known? Hmmm.

Watching the offending video, it appears the script only entails subjects and accompanying media but not all the banter between hosts. The off the cuff banter between hosts is part of the charm.

Sea ice is formed from two directions, from the salt water below and from the atmosphere above. Salt water requires a water temperature below -10C to freeze, but fresh water freezes between -1C and 1C. The salt water close to the Antarctic land mass is being diluted with fresh water as temperatures rise and the ice melts, dropping the temps necessary to form ice from below.

Air masses arriving at the pole have higher moisture content so ice building from above is faster than before AGW. However multi-year ice, just like at the Arctic, is thinning out rapidly.

Right, he didn’t say she is a blind tool, he basically said she knows full well what she’s doing and is doing it for the ratings/money. That makes her disingenuous at best. At worst it makes her #342.

He didn’t say she was a ‘blind tool’, in fact he clearly said she wasn’t. What he said was that a great deal of what Rachel Maddow says on TV is scripted by others in order to keep MSNBC’s audience satisfied.

Those specials she has done of the soldier class in America have been pretty damn good. Funny I don’t see the other MSNBC shows, or anyone else for that matter mentioning anything about how we look at our ‘warriors’ as heroes and treat them like dirt. Both parties too, but one that especially likes to wear their support openly while cutting things like veterans services after they return.

So, I guess the script writers at MSNBC just did those for Maddow, huh? Or, maybe Rachel Maddow sees it as a problem herself and had her staff help her research and write up the programming. You know…like in the past when there were the Murrows and The Cronkites or how all news shows are actually done.

And since you seem to like your war history and admire soldiers and all that, I should think you would have given her credit for looking into that more than just about anyone. Then again, maybe you don’t watch, which would make it easy to dismiss her.

Matter of fact, many times she has viewpoints on things others in the media do not, not limited to MSNBC which some seem to think is just the other side of Fox. Lazy thinking that.

Looks like some cold is coming to a State near you.

An astonishing, dangerous cold snap is about to descend on the U.S.
For days, it’s appeared on computer model maps in the form of deep blue and purple shades. Now it’s about to get real and up close and personal. Some of the coldest air in years, if not decades, is poised to pour into the U.S., with mind-boggling low temperatures.

Note the warm air around the Arctic.

Really, we should be looking at how much “non-european blood” is in white people.

some White people would be shocked, SHOCKED!, I tell you.

Rand Paul says he’s suing over NSA surveillance programs

cbsnews.com

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Rand Paul says he is filing suit against the Obama administration over the data-collection policies of the National Security Agency. On his website, he’s urging Americans to join the lawsuit, in his words, “to stop Barack Obama’s NSA from snooping on the American people.”

(snip)

Paul says the lead lawyer in the suit is Virginia’s former attorney general, Ken Cuccinelli.

Jesus these people never stop with their bullshit.

Ugh. Apart from tweeting articles & Pages and retweeting the occasional animal pic or tweet I see here using the buttons provided, I’ve been mostly staying away from Twitter—i.e. avoiding watching the columns in Tweetdeck.

The constant drama & nastiness gets to me sometimes. That, and the sniping tweet spats, which have begun to remind me of ridiculous fights couples who’ve been in relationships a long time can start to have. You know, the ones where your SO can get up and walk to another room and you can tell by their gait that they’re annoyed?

SO #1: Why are you walking like that?

SO #2: Like what?

SO #1: Like you’re pissed off.

SO #2: Are you serious?

SO #1: Don’t effing pretend that you don’t know what I’m talking about!

SO #2: OFFS. I’m going out. BBL.

Every. Freaking. Day. That’s why I haven’t been around much lately—it’s not you guys, it’s just that when I’m feeling snarky I try to stay away from everyone lest I take out my annoyance on those who don’t deserve it.

I looked around a bit to see if he’s getting any cross over appeal from lefties on this, didn’t find much. Progressives seem much more excited about Bernie Sanders questions about the NSA snooping on congress.

Wind chill will make it seem anywhere from -20s to -40s in the midwest.

We’re supposed to get some ice here in NC. It’s been overcast all day and I see now that they’re predicting a mix for Mon here.

re: #333 Killgore Trout

heh. I actually think Maddow is probably a very interesting person, much more interesting and nuanced than the scripts she reads on her network show. My opinion is she’s a very smart person doing a very dumb show. I’d be much more interested to hear what she really thinks about complicated issues instead of what talking points management thinks the audience wants to hear.

Meh. People tell you all the time what she does and how shows like this are constructed, and exactly what role she plays (she has a great deal to do with WHAT is said and HOW it’s said). But you ignore that in favor of your own ego.

The bread…

I realize that I’m conflating cultures, but after seeing the above fresh homemade bread photo; I had to make a French bread & mojo pork sandwich.

My preference is French bread over Cuban bread.

YMMV

Nice but I’d rather a classic M64 K frame in .38 special for a revolver. My next purchase will be my Spike Speigal impersonation moment: magnumresearch.com Pity they don’t have the proper Jericho name but that’s life & trademarks ;)

What about this. Can be chambered for .38.
