GOHMERT! compares Obamacare to the Soviet Union

Wingnuts • Views: 17,705

It’s been awhile since GOHMERT weighed in with his usual kooky wackiness, but the hiatus has not mellowed him toward reality one bit!

There are some people that say, “Just let it go, it will fail on its own, and so why not let it go?” Well, that is true. It will fall on its own. But the Soviet Union was destined to fall. But think of the tens of millions of people that died, think of all the freedoms that were taken away from people for around 70 plus years. And I’m one of those who believes that Reagan, by the stand he took, by being aggressive and standing up to them, I believe he saved 20 years of liberty for people who wouldn’t have had it, maybe, in their lifetime.

He goes on to allege that new rules under the Affordable Care Act that went into effect on January 1 are preventing the father of one of his staff members from getting a pacemaker.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the Soviet Union wasn’t so much a problem than the fact conservatives were no less batshit crazy 60 years ago, than they are today.

Acting crazy is bad for business. It has to be against at least one of the Rules of Acquisition, so he sucks at being a Ferenghi just as much as he sucks at being a congressman and a person.

Of course. Their maniacs and our maniacs use each other as a threat to control their local populations and line their own pockets. It’s been this way for a very long time.

Worked some more on drag and drop uploading - now we have real error messages. If the image file’s too large ( > 500K) , you’ll now see an error message telling you that, instead of the generic catch-all message used by the old uploading method. And even better, it tells you right away if it’s too large instead of first uploading the file, so the feedback is much more immediate.

We have an elevator in our building - which is only two floors. It’s the slowest elevator I’ve ever ridden in. It takes about 30 seconds to change floors, most of which seems to be spent deciding whether to move, then later trying to find the exact spot to stop so that it drops 3 or so inches all at once when it thinks it’s there.

The drop just before the doors open is creepy. I used to take the elevator when I had my bike, so I could leave it by my office instead of out on the roof rack for all to see and steal. The *BUMP!* scared me into carrying the bike over my shoulder and taking the stairs.

Our building was built in the 1970’s. The elevators, apparently, have had the absolute minimum service ever since. And I do mean minimum; the buttons may or may not work depending on which panel you’re pressing, they’re slow, they frequently malfunction and have a reputation for getting stuck. However, the company appears to be doing well enough now that they’ve finally ponied up to get the elevators refurbished this year.

Except in the Thames Valley, where Inspector Morse solves 6 murders a week.

Even worse, Midsomer, where 6 people a day are more likely to be murdered for not serving spotted dick in those tiny villages.

When you drag and drop an image that’s over the 500K maximum size now, it will display a popup with the maximum size allowed, and the name of your file and its size for comparison.

If you’re a Mac user, I recommend this little utility for quick scaling and editing of image files: ImageWell. The nice thing about it: when you finish editing an image you can just drag it out of the ImageWell window and drop it in the LGF comment box. Couldn’t be easier.

Interesting, I had never heard that. Greenwald doesn’t actually care about anyone but himself. Even when he pretends to, it’s for his own benefit and means to an end, a way to promote his own agenda.

He doesn’t give a damn if anyone has “privacy”. If he did, he wouldn’t approve of hacking and stealing govt documents. And the people’s names that are contained in those documents, those public servants whose names might appear in those documents, are put at grave risk. But that isn’t as important to him as “exposing” the perceived “wrongdoing” of the govt and trying to make a name for himself.

It’s like American Exceptionalism, but backwards. Rather than whatever the US does being okay because we’re uniquely good, in GG’s mind whatever the US does is bad because we’re uniquely bad.

Yep, if America has anything to with it, it’s automaticaly bad because of his hatred for America.

Just out of curouisty, what is his basic reason for this hatred of the U.S anyway?

I could point out to that guy on Twitter that I didn’t say what he attributed to me (“if someone else kills children it’s perfectly ok for USA to kill children”), but I’ve learned that when they start out like that it’s almost always a waste of time to discuss any further.

The gates were opened in Nov 1989.
People took chunks of the wall in 1989 and early 1990.
The wall was demolished in late 1990.

I was there in ‘93 and took a chunk. A small chunk.

‘89 counts as the wall ‘coming down’, because it no longer kept the easterners from heading west.

Yeah, thanks for pointing it out, but he just becomes more loathsome every single day.

If he hates this country so much, why doesn’t he just renounce his citizenship?

Because my guess is that, in GG’s fevered mind, he’d lose any “moral superiority” he think he has if he were to renounce his US citizenship.

I’d say the worst problem I have with GG is that he makes me want to defend things I don’t like, because he’s such a flaming asshole.

You have to be on your guard to ensure you don’t support or oppose things simply because those who oppose or support them (respectively) are awful people.

Dude he makes me feel like a national security hawk when I am in reality merely someone who has read a lot about foreign policy.

Yep and it’s also why I hate talking foreign policy with Ron Paul fans. Made the mistake of telling one of them in ;’08 that you can’t claim that the Founding Fathers would be anti-internationalist since it’s a different world in 2008 than it was in the late 1700’s. And hell given that Barbary Wars, they weren’t Paul style isolationists at all when it came to FP.

I was studying German in college as preparation for my first ever trip over there as I watched easterners celebrating on top of the thing in late 1989. A few months later I was over there having a life changing experience. As was this was before reunification, I and my classmates got a definite taste of what life was like in the east as we visited Leipzig and Dresden. We were…uh…happy to get back to West Berlin.

It’s basically childish behavior by GG. Some time ago, my sister had just finished reading “Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee” and had lapsed into a mindless anti-American, pro-Soviet position as a result.

In her defense, she was probably 15 or so at the time, and a brief review of the Soviet Gulag and Stalin’s various modes of entertainment corrected the problem.

GG should know better than this.

Quite Concur. Removing the various sections of the barrier took months, but the opening of the wall’s gates in November of 1989 marked the end of the Berlin Wall for all intents and purposes.

Fever Swamp(s) refer to the blogs that came into existance after the great meltdown of 2009. Their sole reason for existing was as a gathering place for those who either got outright banned for blatant racist posts or “flounced” because of the political turn LGF took.

Their sole purpose was to ridicule and even stalk Lizards who refused to agree with them. Charles, of course being their main target. Most of them have been, like DoD, swept away into the dust bin of history.

Did I miss anything Lizards?

BTW, the reason I recognized it is that my Dad owns a Citroen. Got his first one in 1971. Picked it up at the Factory in Paris, on a one-month vacation in France and Spain. I got to drive it a lot as a teenager.

When it rusted out, his Cit mechanic found him the 1972 DS21 Pallas from a Southern state, which he drove for years, and which now sits moldering in the garage, under an ever-increasing coating of dust and barnswallow poop.
