Pastor Tells Fox News: Obama’s Getting Us Ready to Embrace the Anti-Christ

Keeping the Fox audience superstitious and deluded
Wingnuts • Views: 28,848

Say what you want about Fox News, but they do know their target audience:

Fundamentalist Christian pastor Robert Jeffress appeared Monday night on The O’Reilly Factor to discuss his new book, Perfect Ending, which suggests the president’s policies were conditioning Americans to rely on the government and make them vulnerable to the satanic political figure foretold in the Bible.

“What I’m saying in the book, Bill, is there’s going to be a future world dictator before Christ returns who’s going to usurp people’s personal feelings, uh, rights,” Jeffers told host Bill O’Reilly.

Jeffers, pastor of the 11,000-member First Baptist Church in Dallas, said the anti-Christ would wage war against Christians and change religion-based laws.

“He’s going to do it without any opposition, and my question was, how is he going to be able to pull that off?” Jeffers said. “My thesis is, people will have been conditioned long before the anti-Christ comes to accept governmental overreach, and that’s what you’re seeing with President Obama.”

He said the end times were predicted in the Old Testament Book of Daniel and the New Testament Book of Revelations.

“Even Jews look forward to it,” Jeffers told O’Reilly.

One could easily argue all these false-witness bearers are swinging from Satan’s nutsack, but they won’t listen.

Yeah, so many of the Jewish people I know are into Revelations and the end times.

Even the Jews? Golly.

Jeffress has claimed that Islam “promoted pedophilia” and has been accused of reducing “Catholics, Hindus, Buddhists and virtually everyone else” to members of cults.[9] [10]
In 2008, Pastor Robert Jeffress, in his sermon “Gay Is Not OK”,[11] stated that “What they [homosexuals] do is filthy. It is so degrading that it is beyond description. And it is their filthy behavior that explains why they are so much more prone to disease.”[12]
In September 2010, Pastor Jeffress called Islam an “evil, evil religion”.[13] and in December 2010, Jeffress established a “Naughty and Nice List” where businesses are identified based on whether or not they openly celebrated Christmas, saying “I wanted to do something positive to encourage businesses to acknowledge Christmas and not bow to the strident voices of a minority who object to the holiday.”[14][15]
Also in 2010, Jeffress referred to Roman Catholicism as a “Satanic” result of “Babylonian mystery religion”.[16]
In October 2011, at the Values Voter Summit, Jeffress called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) “a cult”. He received widespread criticism for his statement, but has not retracted it despite U.S. presidential candidate and church member Mitt Romney’s request for him to do so.[17]

Seems like a nice man.

Such telling choices of words.

Jeffress Says Satan Is Behind Roman Catholicism

Jeffress: This is the Babylonian mystery religion that spread like a cult throughout the entire world. The high priests of that fake religion, that false religion, the high priests of that religion would wear crowns that resemble the heads of fish, that was in order to worship the fish god Dagon, and on those crowns were written the words, ‘Keeper of the Bridge,’ the bridge between Satan and man. That phrase ‘Keeper of the Bridge,’ the Roman equivalent of it is Pontifex Maximus. It was a title that was first carried by the Caesars and then the Emperors and finally by the Bishop of the Rome, Pontifex Maximus, the Keeper of the Bridge.

You can see where we’re going with this. It is that Babylonian mystery religion that infected the early church, one of the churches it infected was the church of Pergamos, which is one of the recipients of the Book of Revelation. And the early church was corrupted by this Babylonian mystery religion, and today the Roman Catholic Church is the result of that corruption.

Much of what you see in the Catholic Church today doesn’t come from God’s Word, it comes from that cult-like, pagan religion. Now you say, ‘pastor how can you say such a thing? That is such an indictment of the Catholic Church. After all the Catholic Church talks about God and the Bible and Jesus and the Blood of Christ and Salvation.’

Isn’t that the genius of Satan? If you want to counterfeit a dollar bill, you don’t do it with purple paper and red ink, you’re not going to fool anybody with that. But if you want to counterfeit money, what you do is make it look closely related to the real thing as possible.

And that’s what Satan does with counterfeit religion. He uses, he steals, he appropriates all of the symbols of true biblical Christianity, and he changes it just enough in order to cause people to miss eternal life.

Do these sorts make any attempt to rationalize the historical fact that their churches are offshoots of that one, even in their own heads, or do they merely shout harder?

Is it unhinged, though?

There’s money in tying End Times stuff to Obama…it effectively increases your market share, since culture warriors—and culture warrior PACs that buy books in bulk—will spend money on anything anti-Obama.

It’s also part of the larger business model of End Times materials, where you have to market your “interpretation” as an innovation, but also cleave to the Darby/Scofield timeline. (credit to slacktivist’s Fred Clark for elucidating this for me).

“”Even Jews look forward to it,” Jeffress told O’Reilly.”

Ummm. No. We don’t.

The Eternal is all about living a full life and doing good deeds.

Jeffress can’t be bothered to preach about love and tolerance, so he’s busy trumping up nonsense about how expanding health care so more people can afford it is somehow the turning point that will lead to the Apocalypse.

That puts him in Harold Camping Rapture territory, just without the courage of conviction to set a date.

That is when he’s not spreading nonsense about other religions and religious groups - that he knows better about their beliefs than they do.

UPDATE:
Is it Jeffress or Jeffers? Can’t tell because the underlying story uses both. Fact-check in Aisle 6-6-6?

And there’s O’Reilly jumping the shark. I used to have a smidgen of respect for him, because he’d occasionally break sharply from the Limbaugh-Breitbart line, and he seemed to have no time for batshit loons blathering on about the end times, and Obama being the anti-Christ.

O’Reilly is Catholic, right? Did he not know what this loon thinks of Catholics, or does he just not care because he needs the ratings?

Yes, everyone knows that the Roman Catholic church usurped true Christianity. It just took several centuries for the splitters, I mean real Christians, to get back on their feet.

Nope, they just shout harder. That’s sort of the entire basis of most organized religion in the first place. There is no way to rationalize “I have the ONE TRUE WAY™, pay no attention to everyone else that says they have the ONE TRUE WAY™”.

The only difference between a zealot and an atheist is that the atheist managed to throw out that one last religion, along with all of the thousands of others that they BOTH threw out.

I once had my wingnut sister tell my oldest sister - a devoted Catholic - that she was going to burn in Hell. At another sister’s funeral.

Pretty much tore that relationship beyond all repair at that point.

They rationalize it easily. Built into this whole sectarian thing is a healthy dose of American exceptionalism; it’s not a coincidence that the Real True Christians come from the US, and the dodgy, decadent churches are rooted in European theologians.

And Catholicism is the most dodgy, decadent one of all because of its emphasis on works. Not only are Catholics hell-bound, it’s generally posited that they’ll side with the Antichrist.

It does seem to me that the “SATANIC CULT, YOU’LL BURN IN HELL!!!!111” stuff is a one-way street. Every 3rd fundie preacher seems to say this about Catholics, but aside from Mel and Hutton Gibson, there aren’t too many Catholics raving about how Evangelicals are going to burn in hell for being part of a cult.

The wingnut husband of a cousin of mine ended a debate between us by announcing, “You know, Christians used to kill people like you.”

I walked away before demonstrating that I believe my status in Hell is determined by the size and composition of the honour guard I take with me.

And the church my wingnut sister belongs to is the most cult-like thing I’ve ever seen, short of the real thing.

Their pastor tells them what TV shows to watch, what activities are ‘approved,’ the whole nine. It kills me, because I know my sister is way smarter than that. I’ll never understand how she got sucked into that shit.

I think you have it wrong. These batsh*t insane religious nutcases have been around awhile. What has changed since Obama was elected is that *mainstream news outlets ahem…. (i.e. Republican propaganda machines) now feel inclined to not only acknowledge these cretins, but actually promote them. The sense that these news outlets don’t seem too scared of alienating their viewers speaks volumes about how the undercurrent of hard-right Christian Dominionism has evolved into an American nightmare/embarrassment to the rest of the world.
