Rand Paul in a Time Warp: Bill Clinton’s Infidelity Should Be a Campaign Issue

What kind of twisted mind thinks the way to attack Hillary Clinton is by bringing up Bill Clinton’s affair?
Politics • Views: 25,838

MSNBC Video

The recent Republican National Committee meeting got all the conservative politicians fired up about proving they’re not conducting a war on women’s rights, so they promptly went out to the media and shot themselves in the foot, over and over, proving beyond all doubt that they’re still living in the Stone Age.

The latest Republican to beclown himself: Rand Paul, who went on Meet the Press today and announced that he thinks a good way to attack Hillary Clinton would be to bring up her husband’s infidelity from 20 years ago.

The Democrats, one of their big issues they have concocted says the Republicans are committing a war on women. One of the workplace laws and rules that I think are good is that bosses shouldn’t prey on young interns in their office. And I think really the media seems to be — have given President Clinton a pass on this.

He took advantage of a girl that was 20 years old and an intern in his office. There is no excuse for that. And that is predatory behavior, and it should, it should be something, we shouldn’t want to associate with people who would take advantage of a young girl in his office. This isn’t having an affair. I mean, this isn’t me saying, “Oh, he’s had an affair, we shouldn’t talk to him.” Someone who takes advantage of a young girl in their office, I mean, really, and then they have the gall to stand up and say Republicans are having a war on women? So yes, I think it’s a factor.

Unbelievable tone-deafness. They just cannot help themselves.

What kind of twisted mind? The kind that has run out of reasonable attacks.

Because that’s really what you want to do when your party is already hurting for viable candidates, draw people’s attention to the good things that the last Clinton did in office while you tried to burn him at the stake over, and over, and over again.

More proof that the RWNJs have no new ideas, no plans to govern, and no sense of reality.

8 wrenchwench  Sun, Jan 26, 2014 11:27:27am

It hasn’t been OK to call a 20 year old a ‘young girl’ since 1970, when Rand was a young boy.

9 wrenchwench  Sun, Jan 26, 2014 11:28:26am

And having Rand’s wife be the one who says it should be an issue does not make it a women’s issue.

10 Targetpractice  Sun, Jan 26, 2014 11:30:08am

It’s also pretty telling that the GOP is so desperate to find something, anything, to hit her with that they’re already engaging in character assassination over a year before she’d have to consider throwing her hat into the ring.

But saying ‘young girl’ does help to plant a ridiculous implication of ‘pedophile’ onto an already stupid argument.

According to Wikipedia, she was already involved with a married man before (and during) her time in the White House. I don’t mean to impugn her, I’m just saying she was a woman, an adult, making adult decisions. Not necessarily smart ones. And it was still improper for Bill to engage in a relationship with her, first because of the workplace situation, and secondly because he’s married. But diminishing her to attack Hillary through Bill is another rebranding fail.

I get the feeling that if Bill Clinton could run again, he’d win. There’s not a soul in the GOP who could go against him in a debate, and bringing up Monica Lewinsky would rightly be called a sign of desperation.

19 butterick  Sun, Jan 26, 2014 11:36:23am

Well obviously, Hillary was irresponsible or else Bill wouldn’t have strayed. And how can we trust her with the most important job in the country when she can’t even do her Wife Job?

The hospital has disconnected Marlise Munoz from the life support machines.

As I posted before, that hospital is the county hospital, owned by Tarrant County. The DA was representing them.

I believe the hospital workers were never at fault here. Anecdotally, my neighbor is a young anaesthesia doctor, and he says that everyone he knows that works there was horrified by this.

What a load of crap.

Really Rand Paul, as a libertarian you would think you would at least hold Monica Lewinski partially responsible for her actions. She was not some innocent high school kid.
You don’t think young women are responsible enough to decide about their own bodies, nor take responsibility for their own decisions.

And to say Clinton got a pass? Fucking IMPEACHMENT!!

Get a clue…we don’t want or need your permission, nor your excuses for us.
What we would like are laws protecting us from sexual harassment and equal opportunity in the workplace (and military), equal pay, autonomy over our own bodies and our life choices.

This is the sort of answer you’d expect from someone with brain damage. Someone who can’t think coherently enough that the goalposts ever stop moving in his head.

The war on women, regardless of your feelings on it, involves laws (mostly state laws in the reddest parts of the country) that roll back women’s rights, especially in the area of reproductive choice. You may believe these laws are justified and not sexist, but these laws are the crux of what’s called the war on women.

Bill Clinton, out of power for the last 14 years, has nothing whatsoever to do with this issue. He’s irrelevant, except in the mind of someone who can only think of scoring a cheap political point based on ancient history.

Whether Monica L. was 20 or 22 while this was going on, she was not a victim. She knew exactly what she was doing as a fairly sexually experienced woman, if not emotionally mature. And what a coup! To be able to say that she sucked the President’s dick! After all, revelations about his womanizing as governor of Arkansas had already surfaced, and she figured it would be easy—and it was.

Having said that, I admit, I was pretty damned pissed at Bill not being able to keep it in his pants and even at Hillary for not dumping him, having had that happen to me at an early age. But then, I realized, those people live in an entirely different world, that of politics, in a lot of ways, and this could have just been some “palace intrigue” instigated by the Rs as well. So my opinion wasn’t going to count for anything in the scheme of things, so why invest any of my emotion in it, even though I lost respect for Bill? OTOH, I think many people look to our “leaders” to be a lot more circumspect in their personal behavior because, after all, we’ve elevated them to these high positions and sort of expect them to be “examples” for the rest of the country—a burden most of us wouldn’t want thrust upon ourselves, so why be hypocritical about it? I also wondered if the Clintons would have handled it differently had they not been in the WH?

I also wonder, though, what would have been the reaction if Hillary had been onto some hanky panky instead of Bill? I expect the Rs will be investigating that angle.

He’s married to Hillary. They want you to put “2 and 2 together”.

Mike Huckabee has actually said nice things about the Clintons in the past (their personal lives, not their politics).

I remember being very impressed, when he was in the 2008 primaries, that he said of them “Yeah, they had problems in their marriage, but they worked through it and stayed together. That’s the right thing to do. And Chelsea seems to have turned out pretty well, so clearly they did a good job of parenting.”

Just finished watching Into Eternity on Al Jazeera America. I’m more impressed with them the more I watch. Frankly they might look good because hard hitting news without an agenda is a big vacuum. The suck. Yes some smaller players & do good content try but the biggies dominate viewership.

Not yet seen how they deal with Israel or similar topics. So just for conversational purposes, lets just say that’s a wait and see thing.

Into Eternity is a sobering look at nuclear waste storage at a big place in Finland called Onkalo. It just blew me away. Has me re thinking nuclear power, and yet with some rejoinders I’d offer and some questions for the smart people featured in the film.

Way off topic today, but global climate and nuclear power will be coming up again as an important topic right here. You might want what this documentary film offers in mind on that day.

Personal life

DesJarlais and his second wife, Amy, have three children. They live in Jasper, a town about 30 miles west of Chattanooga, in Marion County. DesJarlais divorced his first wife, Susan, in 2001; they have one child.[21]

On November 15, 2012—two weeks after the election—the Chattanooga Times Free Press obtained a transcript of DesJarlais’ 2001 divorce proceeding with his first wife. It revealed that DesJarlais had admitted under oath to at least six sexual relationships with people he came in contact with while chief of staff at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper. Among them were at least two patients. The state Democratic Party had fought to get the transcript released before the election, but the transcript—which ran to 679 typed pages—was not complete at the time. The transcript also revealed that contrary to his staunch anti-abortion stance as a congressman, he had counseled his then-wife to have two abortions and pressured one of the patients with whom he’d had an affair with to get an abortion. Additional transcripts revealed that he had prescribed pain pills to at least one patient with whom he’d had an affair—a clear conflict of interest.[22][23][24]

The Obama campaign ran a much, much more effective ground game. The Clinton campaign used the same playbook as the GOP — focus on a few key states and primaries and ignore the rest. Obama took Howard Dean’s 50-state strategy, added in social media and highly aggressive GOTV efforts and won. The party establishment didn’t factor in things like Twitter, Facebook, and crowdfunding. Obama did.

Whoever runs for the Dems in 2016, it’s almost a certainty that they’ll have Obama campaign vets on board.

Church with apartment building behind it.

The last would be a much nicer composition with something other than a gray sky (blue would be nice). Have a nice horizontal building in the church (German Lutheran) with a contrasting vertical structure right behind it. Plus smooth exterior vs the blocky exterior. And so on.

DAVID GREGORY:
Right, but is it something that Hillary Clinton should be judged on if she were a candidate in 2016?

SEN. RAND PAUL:
Yeah— no, I’m not saying that. This is with regard to the Clintons, and sometimes it’s hard to separate one from the other. But I would say that, with regard to his place in history, that it certainly is a discussion. And I think in my state, you know, people tend to sort of frown upon that. You know, if there were someone in my community who did that, they would be socially— we would dissociate from somebody who would take advantage of a young women in the workplace.

I don’t know what kind of a bubble Rand is living in, but he obviously hasn’t spoken to many working women in Kentucky.

What the fuck are these people even talking about? Who in government is calling for taking money from the rich and just giving it directly to the poor?

Asking for a higher minimum wage isn’t the same as saying, “We want you to tax rich people and directly give us their money.”

Neither is asking for some sort of health care reform that involves nearly universal coverage. There’s some kind of paranoid fever that’s affected the far right…to them, everyone is out to take something from them…govt. wants to take their guns, poor people want to take their money, and there’s a criminal around every corner waiting to attack them.

Hello! How do I get LGF to accept my drag and drop image? “File type not allowed” is what comes up when I try.

I’m afraid the problem is that you’re using an outdated version of Safari that doesn’t fully support drag and drop for file uploads, and it’s misinterpreting the dropped text as a file.

Copy and paste should work instead of dragging.

Considering how crappy CNN has been in reporting news of late, this is certainly not going to improve things (or morale for that matter).

CNN to lay off 40 senior journalists but then claims that they’re going to hire 100 new journalists:

“The cutting of production and editorial staff at the Time Warner-owned group comes as Mr. Zucker tries to re-establish CNN as the dominant force in 24-hour cable news, a crown it lost several years ago to Fox News Channel,” Financial Times noted. “… The lay-offs coincide with changes to the network’s programming. Mr Zucker has hired new presenters and diversified CNN’s output, adding documentary and reality series to its traditional live news coverage.”

But the once-vaunted network just had its lowest rated week since Jeff Zucker took over, Deadline Hollywood noted.

“In total day, CNN pulled in 78,000 viewers in the key news demo, the worst it has done since the week of May 14-20, 2012 when CNN drew 74,000 viewers among the 25-54s,” Deadline Hollywood wrote. “… Looking back over the past 12 months, CNN has fallen hard since the week the former NBCUniversal exec officially took over as president of CNN Worldwide; year-over-year, CNN was down 33 percent in total day from the comparable week a year before (January 14 - 20, 2013) and down 39 percent in primetime.”

A CNN spokesperson told Financial Times the network planned to add 100 journalists this year.

Here’s a novel idea. How about spending time focusing on newsworthy stuff, instead of the fluff that you insist must be newsy.

I read recently that something like 10% of the tickets actually go on sale to the public.

By some estimates, only 1% of this year’s SB tickets are/were sold at face value; someone just sued the NFL less than a month ago about this, because NJ consumer protection law requires no more than 5% of event tickets can be withheld from sale to the general public.

Evidently, some people are fed up with “Right Sector” which they claim has violent tendencies, and have opened a public forum on Vkontakte to identify those they know. RS is an extremist RW, loosely connected group who even consider Svoboda too “liberal”.

Tunisia Passes Progressive Constitution

The constitution enshrining freedom of religion and women’s rights took two years to finish. During that period, the country was battered by high unemployment, protests, terrorist attacks, political assassinations and politicians who seemed more interested in posturing than finishing the charter.

At the same time, Egypt wrote two constitutions — and went through a military coup against an elected government. Egypt’s charters were quickly drafted by appointed committees and involved little public debate or input. In Tunisia, an elected assembly of Tunisian Islamists, leftists and liberals worked on a detailed roadmap for their political future.

Tunisians hope its care in drafting the constitution makes a difference in returning stability to the country and reassuring investors and allies such as the U.S.

I changed my mind about the death penalty when the number of post-conviction exculpations became too significant to ignore. However, I agree with RBS that “it should remain an option for the most heinous of crimes, where there is no doubt at all as the the guilt and culpability of the individual.” Afaic the criterion for the death penalty should be stricter than ‘guilt beyond reasonable doubt’.

The linked WSAZ article indicates the killer had a shit ton of weapons and ammo.

I know a lot of these fringe dweller gun freaks. I’ll say it plainly: They are psycho-sexual deviants just itching for a chance to shoot someone.

I have some real life experience with this, a farcical incident that could well have ended in tragedy.
Some years ago, two drunken college girls broke into my apartment in the mistaken belief that one girl’s ex-boyfriend still lived there. It was 3 in the morning, I heard them kicking at the door, and automatically thought the worst. I got my .45 out of its locked drawer and chambered a round just as the door splintered. I was so frightened I was about to piss myself, literally. I had no idea who they were or what they intended.
I pointed the gun at the doorway into my bedroom and one of the girls came around the corner. She stopped and her eyes crossed looking down the barrel of the .45. She screamed, “Darla, I don’t know this man at all!” I lowered the gun when I saw she was unarmed. My fear turned to anger and I let loose with a blistering barrage of profanity as they fled the apartment.
I got their license number. The cops stopped them up the street. The one I didn’t see, Darla, was driving. They arrested her for DUI. They brought the other one back so I could ID her. She complained about the foul language I had used to them. The cop, a 50 something veteran, said, “Well, maybe Mr. R is a little sensitive about people kicking his door down AT THREE O’CLOCK IN THE GODDAMN MORNING.” He also told her they were the dumbest college students he had encountered in 25 years as a police officer and they were lucky to be alive. They both got probation.

This came out in the Dallas paper (it happened in Denton) and I got a fair amount of kidding over it. One of my co-workers said, “Gee, your mom probably told you women wouldn’t come knocking your door down after your divorce; then when they do you run them off at gunpoint!”

Some of the responses were not at all funny though. One of my co-workers was one of the aforementioned fringe-dweller gun kooks. He emphasized that I could have killed the girls legally. So help me, he seemed puzzled and disappointed that I had let them go. To him, I had inexplicably passed up a wonderful opportunity.

Protesters at Ukrainian House prepare for night

11:45 a.m., Jan. 26 — People keep flowing in Ukrainian House which was seized by protesters at night on Jan.26. Activists are offered hot food and warm clothes to warm up as the temperature in Kyiv is 15 degrees below zero and expected to hit 25 degrees below zero next week, according to weather forecasts. “The kitchen is almost ready and we start settling people so they can get warm,” says Ivan from Lviv while putting on a coat he got at the point for donations located on the first floor of the Ukrainian House. He has been in Kyiv since Dec. 3 and says will stay ‘till the victory.’ According to him, protesters occupied the building as more people are arriving and they need a place to stay. “More people are coming and they need to be lodged somewhere. It’s cold outside,” he says.

Meanwhile, some 200 police officers have got today a new place to stay as well. Unlike protestors, they have been settled in three-star hotel Druzhba on Druzhby Narodiv blvd in Pechersk district of Kyiv. The Kyiv Post spotted three big buses that brought them to the hotel today at around 2:30 p.m. The price for staying there ranges from Hr 225 ($27) to Hr 870 ($108) per person per night. — Anastasia Forina

This is where many people fail. They love power, but they would rather do without the responsibility. More correctly they love credit but refuse blame.

Kyiv Post is also running a lot of editorials advocating more effort from the EU and US. Unfortunately, they’re mostly from obscure influential people. It’s something I guess but I’m still not detecting a whole lot of interest.

No kidding.

Here’s some follow-up comments to a guy who typed his comment in ALL CAPS:

If CAPITAL letters annoys you then maybe you should not be a gun owner.. Not a responsible one anyways!!! MORON

Good comeback dimwit. ALL CAPS shows a lack of manners and concern for others.

I LIVE IN FLORIDA, SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO STAY THE HELL OUT OF THIS STATE AS YOU DON’T HAVE THE MENTAL ABILITY TO READ SIMPLE LETTERS THAT ARE PUT TOGETHER TO FORM WORDS. IF CAPS OFFENDS YOUR SENSIBILITIES THEN GOOD! I HOPE YOU GO BLIND!

then fucking zoom in on the page, using all caps to have a conversation is annoying as fuck and makes people ignore you because you look like an idiot kid.

Just…wow…

Personally, considering the way the bullet is manufactured, I’m not at all sure it would penetrate much of anything. It’s also, I think, unlikely to be used in anything other than a pistol or SMG.

It will undoubtedly put down any person it hits. Which is its primary purpose.

This is not a target round, or a hunting round. It is designed to kill human beings.

I see no reason why anyone other than special forces or an assassin would require such a round.

I know it’s a dead thread now, but in 365 comments nobody - not even the poster with the relevant name - mentioned the Aqua Buddha incident?

“He and Randy came to my house, they knocked on my door, and then they blindfolded me, tied me up, and put me in their car. They took me to their apartment and tried to force me to take bong hits. They’d been smoking pot.” After the woman refused to smoke with them, Paul and his friend put her back in their car and drove to the countryside outside of Waco, where they stopped near a creek. “They told me their god was ‘Aqua Buddha’ and that I needed to bow down and worship him,” the woman recalls. “They blindfolded me and made me bow down to ‘Aqua Buddha’ in the creek. I had to say, ‘I worship you Aqua Buddha, I worship you.’ “

Doubtful any of the people passing that around know the minimum wage adjusted for inflation should be $10.55 hr.

This really needs to be trumpeted from the rooftops.

Just a note: Monica was 22 when she met Bill. When she was subpoenaed, she was 23 or 24. The right wing always says 20, though they’ve all been corrected many times. Wonder why they might stick to a number under 21?
