Anti-Immigrant Leader Mark Krikorian Cites White Supremacist in National Review Column

NRO’s ongoing white nationalist problem
Wingnuts • Views: 21,864

Right Wing Watch notices today that in his latest column for the National Review, Center for Immigration Studies director Mark Krikorian is openly citing infamous white nationalist Sam Francis: Krikorian Cites White Nationalist in Anti-Reform Pitch.

Mark Krikorian

In his latest column for the National Review Online, Krikorian responds to a New York Times report this weekend that President Obama’s DACA order has created a backlog of immediate family members of U.S. citizens who are now separated from their families as they wait an unconscionably long time for visas.

Krikorian, of course, sees this not as an administrative failure that might be fixed by White House attention or a comprehensive immigration reform package, but as an indictment of the very concept of immigration reform. To back up his case, he cites a term, “anarcho-tyranny,” coined by white nationalist Sam Francis in his fight against multiculturalism and ” the transformation of American society by millions of aliens .”

“I wasn’t a fan of Sam Francis,” Krikorian writes, “but his concept of ’ anarcho-tyranny’ describes this perfectly.”

We’re glad to learn that Krikorian “wasn’t a fan” of Francis, who edited a white supremacist journal and wanted to seal the border and impose “fertility controls on nonwhites.”

Lovely. This is like saying, “I wasn’t a fan of Hitler, but he did have a way with words.”

And of course, this is far from the first time white nationalists have appeared in the pages of National Review:

Sam Francis was awesome but we can’t say that because political correctness.

Well, to be perfectly frank, if one wants to cite others in an anti-immigration screed, I’m not sure there are a lot of potential sources who aren’t white supremacists.

It doesn’t seem at all implausible that the least-self-confident people are the ones most prone to falling into the trap of ascribing increased value to themselves based upon sharing a [gender/religion/skin color] with other people that they consider to be especially successful.

“Krikorian”. Hmm, that name sounds a lot like it comes from a people who were considered “alien” by the Ottoman Turkish government around about 1915 and had their own population “controlled” with extreme prejudice.

But I’m sure the irony is lost on our Marky. As is the irony of people named “Horowitz” and “Gellar” speaking of Muslims in much the same way the Tsarist media spoke of Jews in the late 19th/early 20th century.

I knew a guy who didn’t think of himself as a racist, but he was. He once asked me why I wasn’t proud of being white, what with all the good shit White People and Western Culture had accomplished. That seemed really strange to me, since I hadn’t done any of it. Why should I be proud of stuff done by others?

And shouldn’t I be ashamed, then, of shit like slavery, the genocide of the Native Americans, WWII and the Holocaust, which were also accomplished by White People?

I think it’s true that if you don’t feel good about yourself and your own accomplishments, you latch onto stuff like being proud to be white. It’s like being proud to be tall, or left handed.

Here’s a photo of Sam Francis. White supremacists are some of the most un-evolved looking people.

There’s a 1991 documentary called “Blood in the Face” that centers around a group of white supremacists and neo-Nazis in Idaho. They come across as a very weird and not particularly erudite bunch of bumpkins who get together to play dress-up and speak their secret code language to each other while bitching about how hard it is to be white Christians because The Jew and His Puppet The Black Man are keeping them down.

Before the war, Hitler was often described in the press outside Germany as being nothing more than a pathetically silly buffoon who exhibited comic grandiosity off the scale. That’s what a lot of the guys in the documentary are like. Just a bunch of wacky goobers that you’d be hesitant to let them paint a barn unsupervised, let alone run anything important. And “Bob” help us all if they ever manage to attain any real political power.

Sam Francis!? They’re quoting that asshat now? To give you an idea, this guy was too racist for Dinesh D’Souza!

en.wikipedia.org

And here’s how his career ended:

For many years the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, owned by Richard Mellon Scaife, was the only mainstream paper carrying his column but they dropped it in 2004 after Francis wrote a column complaining about implicit miscegenation in a skit about Desperate Housewives aired during ABC’s Monday Night Football. Francis denounced the advertisement, which featured sexual innuendo between a black football player and a white actress, arguing that “The point was not just to hurl a pie in the face of morals and good taste but also of white racial and cultural identity.” The advertisement, argued Francis, implicitly argued that “interracial sex is normal and legitimate,” an idea that Francis saw as “fairly radical.” Francis went on to argue that “breaking down the sexual barriers between the races is a major weapon of cultural destruction.”

George Orwell was hailed a hero for fighting in Spain. Today he’d be guilty of terrorism

Last week a British man who called himself Abu Suleiman al-Britani drove a truck full of explosives into the gate of Halab prison in Aleppo. The explosion, in which he died, allowed rebel fighters to swarm into the jail and release 300 prisoners. Was it terrorism or was it heroism? Terrorism, according to many commentators.

It’s true that he carried out this act in the name of the al-Nusra Front, which the British government treats as synonymous with al-Qaida. But can anyone claim that liberating the inmates of Syrian government prisons is not a good thing?

This is, indeed, my fear about someone like Sarah Palin. She’s extremely good at tapping into the resentment of privileged white folks fearing the loss of that privilege, and though she’s fairly unpopular with the general population these days, I could foresee a path of unfortunate events that could put her or someone like her in the White House.

All she (or the next one) would need is a severe depression during an H. Clinton administration. Unemployment at 25% for 4 years should do it.

Was it terrorism or was it heroism? Terrorism, according to many commentators.

Does Moonbat-Monbiot tell us who these “many commentators” are who describe this act, itself, as terrorism? I smell a strawman. His characterization of the Terrorism Act is incomplete and misleading as well.
There is no doubt at all that the bomber’s organization, Al Nusra, is a terrorist group. Not everything done by a terrorist group, however, is terrorism. Al Qaeda famously provided food and medical facilities in some of its operating areas. Does Moonbat think this justifies the 9-11 attacks. Come to think of it, he probably does.

I’ve often thought that if Obama had had the same timing WRT the crash as FDR, things would be very, very different. In 2008 and 2009, wingnuts blamed Obama for economic shit that happened before or right around the time he got into office, then blamed him for it not all miraculously being fixed overnight. If a year or so had passed before he took office, that would be a lot more difficult, and the case for more stimulus a lot easier to make.

That’s why Krikorian needs to be taken as a serious threat. He’s the ‘intellectual face’ of white supremacism, partly because he tries to keep the obvious rhetoric out of his work.

This is from 2008, written by American Conservative co-founder (and editor in 2008) Scott McConnell:

A dozen years ago, when I first saw Mark Krikorian—then the new director of the Center for Immigration Studies—I thought he was the best possible voice for making the immigration-restriction argument persuasive to Americans. Young, wonkish, sufficiently ethnic in background and sensibility to be empathetic to the immigrant experience, highly intelligent with a firm grasp of all the policy detail deployed by both sides in the debate, Krikorian had an uncanny ability to normalize the issue, to dampen its emotive aspects and defuse the smear words (nativist, racist, etc.) that proponents of high immigration habitually threw at their opponents. The growth in influence of the Center for Immigration Studies under his leadership confirms this judgment. Especially striking is the headway Krikorian has made in courting influential Republicans: this book is blurbed by both David Frum and Bill Bennett. But history works in curious ways, and the embrace of immigration reform by the conservative establishment presents some difficulties of its own.

Here’s the end of it:

By becoming part and parcel of the Republican Right, the immigration-reform movement risks becoming absorbed by the Right’s jingoism, turning into another means of expressing American superiority over foreigners, people to be kept out at home and bombed abroad. This may not be Kirkorian’s sentiment, but it is the mindset of many of the companions with whom the immigration-reform movement now travels. While such allies may fuel the movement’s success, they render it a mixed blessing.

That’s the dudebro analysis. They don’t want the war-mongers to mess up their anti-immigration schemes. From the middle:

As the immigration-reduction movement has sunk deeper roots into the conservative movement and begun to acquire a mass-electoral base, it has also picked up some of the political style and impulses of the prowar Right. Talk-radio hosts who are anti-immigrant are especially anti-Muslim and noisy enthusiasts for bombing other countries.

They want a white homeland that keeps to itself. They don’t want immigrants who will become neo-cons, any more than they want immigrants who will become Democrats.

Another Am Con racist, Daniel Larison, takes McConnell to task over a tiny point.

If most immigrants are Mexican, Mexicans speak Spanish and the fact that most new immigrants’ assimilation is delayed or halted by the fact that they speak Spanish, the Mexican origins of most of the new immigration would seem to be a major part of the current predicament. One need not believe that Aztlan is about to rise up to recognize that Mexico is unusually aggressive in its cultivation of emigrants through its consular offices, as Krikorian acknowledges, and that its President has continued a bad habit of President Fox by uttering phrases that Mexico is wherever there are Mexicans. Even coming from a country with a less well-established sense of historical grievance in an era where unilateral declarations of independence were not sponsored by major powers, this sort of language would have an irredentist ring to it.

I included that because so many are ignorant about Larison’s racism.

One of the key concepts regarding national authority is called “The monopoly on violence”. The idea that any threat or use of force from a nation comes with the sanction of the state, and not by other actors. Without a monopoly on violence, other states would have no reason to trust a state when it comes to negotiating peace treaties, declaring war, etc.

Its one of they key reasons why peace deals are so hard to broker in the Middle East. It makes no sense to declare peace with a faction when as soon as you do, half of its membership splits and forms an all new faction to keep fighting.

Civilized states have a responsibility to ensure its citizens are not engaging in foreign wars.

Monopoly on violence

A “monopoly of the legitimate use of physical force” (sometimes controversially abbreviated to merely a monopoly on violence) is the conception of the state as expounded by sociologist Max Weber in his essay Politics as a Vocation (1919). According to Weber, a state is a “human community that (successfully) claims the monopoly of the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory.”[1] Weber’s conception of the state as holding a monopoly on legitimate force or violence over its jurisdiction has figured prominently in philosophy of law and political philosophy in the twentieth century.

A U.S. Army War College study notes that “In an increasingly multipolar world, rapid advances in technology and globalization have dangerously empowered nonstate actors who compete for legitimacy with states and undercut long-held constructs of national autonomy and sovereignty.”

One huge difference between Orwell and Syrian free-lancers was that Orwell was in fact fighting for the recognized government of a nation state and under its legal authority. This technically violated the unenforceable Foreign Recruiting
Act of the time, but would not be a violation of the current Terrorism Act.
It would have violated many other laws of the time if Britain had been at war with Spain, as they are with Al Qaeda, but the countries were not at war.

Apollo Ackbar!
Hamas seizes Apollo statue discovered by Gaza fisherman

An extremely rare and incredibly intact statue of the Greek god Apollo, possibly worth tens of millions of dollars, has mysteriously resurfaced in Gaza only to be seized by Hamas, the Islamic terror group that controls the coastal enclave.

The statue was claimed to be found by a Gaza fisherman named Jouda Ghurab last August. Ghurab says that it took six men to lift the statue out of the water and that he used a donkey cart to transport it back to his home. Eventually, news of the rare find spread and caught the attention of Hamas.

Since then, the statue’s story has gotten more mysterious, as Hamas authorities have taken the statue to investigate it. It even appeared briefly on Ebay with a $500,000 price tag.

In the strictest interpretation we probably fail the good guy test for interring thousands of our own citizens in camps because of their Japanese ancestry.

Rodman drunk, vomited, defecated all over Koryo Hotel in NK

Dennis Rodman checking himself into an alcohol rehabilitation center upon returning from a trip to North Korea was the first news all over the U.S. media, but at that time, he confirmed only to the fact that he is an addict and has never recovered from the habit.

But according to a report cited by Free North Korea Radio, he was practically forced out of the hermit kingdom for his full-blown drunk and disorderly behavior.

“Rodman was drunk the whole week of his stay. And the night before he left for the U.S., he was drunk unconscious, and vomited everywhere he turned. He even urinated and emptied the bowels in the hallway,” said the source.

Workers and managers of the Koryo Hotel who witnessed the scene and had to clean the mess were reportedly at a loss for words at such barbaric and uncivilized behavior.

North Korean authorities were told of the incident and tried to contain the story from spreading like a wild fire.

General best advice? Fight from behind cover. Don’t forget that you have grenades. Take the time to wander around areas and open everything. When you get to the main town, spend some time gambling. Occasionally you’ll get something really nice. Like a shotgun that when its magazine was empty you can throw it like a grenade and it starts chasing bad guys firing all the while until it hits them. Then it explodes.

Speaking of basketball players behaving badly, they have a major uproar in Lubbock:
OSU star Smart shoves fan in loss to Texas Tech
Smart penalized with three-game suspension

But there is more to this story. The fan who was shoved, Jeff Orr, is a fixture around Texas Tech basketball, traveling thousands of miles every year to attend games. He has often been caught engaging in aggressive and obnoxious behavior.
Athletes, Tech coach weigh in on Jeff Orr

In a 2010 game against Texas A&M, Orr can be seen making an obscene gesture at Texas A&M’s Bryan Davis after he throws down a dunk just before half time. Davis was one of the many who reacted to what happened on the basketball court Saturday night.

Davis tweeted: “The same guy that talked crazy to me for 4 years. Shaking my head, but you should never put your hands on a fan.”

Former Oklahoma State player John Lucas III recognized Orr as well.

Lucas tweeted: “I just saw the video, that same fan was at the games talking crazy even when I was in school. I don’t forget a face. He says a lot of crazy ish out of his mouth when you are in the game. And he is a grown man talking to kids the way he does.”

Texas Tech Coach Tubby Smith weighed in with his opinion after the big win.

U.S. says Social Security computer outage to affect HealthCare.gov

cnbc.com

WASHINGTON, Feb 10 (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Monday said people hoping to enroll in health coverage for March 1 may have trouble applying by Saturday’s deadline because of a planned 62-hour maintenance shutdown of a Social Security Administration computer system.

“The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), the lead Obamacare agency, said the shutdown will prevent applicants from verifying their Social Security numbers and other data through the federal website, HealthCare.gov. Those unable to enroll because of the outage can request special enrollment for coverage beginning March 1, CMS said.

“The Social Security computer system will be down from 3 p.m. EST (2000 GMT) on Saturday until 5 a.m. EST (1000 GMT) on Tuesday, Feb. 18, CMS said. CMS said those who have already completed an application will still able to shop or select a plan through the website.”

Who plans these shutdowns, anyway? I blame this guy: ssa.gov

So, it was another gorgeous sunset. This must be the tradeoff here for all the snow and cold we’ve had in the NYC metro area.

Speaking of snow, they’re predicting another snow Wednesday night into Thursday, but the amount will depend on the track - at least a couple of inches, more if it doesn’t switch over to rain. This is the same storm that is going to be a mess for the Southeast too.

Know where they could use the snow and cold? Sochi. They’re looking at temps that could go into the 60s this week. It’s currently 48 degrees and raining there.

‘How Do You Surrender to a Drone?’ Jeremy Scahill Rips Obama on Drone Strikes

Same way you surrender to a SEAL sniper, you don’t. These are not bank robbers surrounded by a SWAT team. The terrorists know perfectly well how and where they can surrender. Again we seem to have a nitwit conflating immediate necessity with a legal proceeding, with a mixture of urban mythology thrown in. The latter is the belief that a violent criminal has to be warned and given a chance to surrender immediately before force is used. This is not necessarily the case in law or police procedure, let alone in war. In any case, American terrorists overseas have been warned, and their most ardent apologists in the dudebro idiot-fest would be hard pressed to deny it.

There is one bit of inaccuracy in that story, however. It mentions that Fred C. Koch was not involved in the founding of the John Birch Society, when it is well documented that he was essentially Robert Welch’s right-hand man, and was a major source of funding of the organization.

Where some of Koch’s reported ties to Naziism might come from is that another of the original inner-circle members of the JBS was Revilo P. Oliver, who was also a co-founder of the neo-Nazi group National Alliance. It also is no secret that the sons are still affiliated with the John Birch Society movement.

Even here in Ostrava, we’re looking at warmer than normal; temps in the mid 40s, which is about 8 degrees warmer than typical.

Protecting would have been “nay” votes, or at least that’s what they’ll tell voters. No, abstaining means they’re covering their own asses, allowing them to jump on the “winning” side of the line as the investigation goes further. Christie looks clean, they’ll say the whole thing was a “partisan witch hunt.” Christie looks dirty, they “wanted to know more before deciding.”

By the way, Ben is bringing the stupid (and bigoted) yet again in his latest column regarding Michael Sam, the collegiate football player who publicly came out as gay over the weekend, and is expected to be one of the first players chosen in this year’s NFL draft.

Is Michael Sam’s Coming Out a Milestone, or a Media Set-Up?

Among his contentions is that Sam made this announcement to secure a high draft pick - the fact that he is a first team All-American and was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year apparently wouldn’t be enough to guarantee that - and that it’s some sort of media campaign to portray him as a victim, and it should be perfectly acceptable to hate Sam for his sexuality.

The biggest problem for Americans, however, is that there can be no victory for tolerance in this scenario. Americans who are apathetic about Sam’s sexuality - people who believe that he will (and should) be accepted without regard to his sexuality — will be castigated as unfeeling simply for stating those views. The media needs Sam’s coming out to be a big deal, because that is how they can continue to portray America as a nasty place in need of leftist cultural and governmental correctives.

The comments, are the usual mix of hardcore anti-gay as well as racist remarks, with a more than a few claiming that the whole thing was somehow orchestrated by President Obama.

Making money from the misery of others.

Terrific.

Well I can see it from both sides. Yours (I am assuming here, not trying to put words in your mouth) that this may be encouraging drug use and profiting from it as well.

And theirs.

They are using this drug and using devices that are of inferior quality, that chip and/or break, cutting the lips of the user(s), there by allowing the transmission of blood born disease that cost the nation more money.

According to See, while the pipes only cost a quarter apiece, individual cases of HIV or hepatitis cost taxpayers up to $250,000 in medical treatment.

I don’t see anything wrong with this. New York and other large cities have had and may still have needle exchange programs to try to curb the spread of blood born disease amongst IV drug users.

The only difference I see here is that the the user is being asked to help pay for the cost of being provided a “safe” method for using their drug.

Hopefully they are or will be also provided with information for treatment for their addiction.

Soliciting while armed. Isn’t that robbery?

I just quoted what was in the link. I’ve no idea what the local laws are.

re: #229 Bubblehead II

THEY’RE ENDORSING DRUG USE!!!! NOBODY’D SMOKE CRACK IF THEY HAD TO BUY THEIR OWN PIPES!!! RISK THEIR PIPES CRACKING!!!

So, basically the position is that it’s better to remain morally pure, while letting others get sick (It’s their own fault!) and cost the system millions of dollars (They want my money!).

Same thing with contraception as a way to reduce abortion.

re: #229 Bubblehead II

Yeah, I get that. Pipettes have been sold in convenience stores for ages. Right there at the cash register.

Along with some other stuff you never thought were used for drugs? I would have never.

“The spokesperson said the teen was cited for violating a city ordinance that prohibits soliciting in and alongside roadways.”

They could also probably charge him under this:

Sec. 42.01. DISORDERLY CONDUCT. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly:

(8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm;

I think if you’re going to walk around openly armed you’ve got some kind of additional burden to present yourself as grounded, sane, responsible and non-alarming. Except for the gun you really don’t want people to otherwise be looking at you twice. Wearing a banana suit might not violate the letter of the law, but it doesn’t exactly treat it with respect or seriousness either.

If the Rio Grande Valley was being run like a 3rd world country wouldn’t it be the Attorney General’s job to go down there and clean it up?

This is, indeed, my fear about someone like Sarah Palin. She’s extremely good at tapping into the resentment of privileged white folks fearing the loss of that privilege, and though she’s fairly unpopular with the general population these days, I could foresee a path of unfortunate events that could put her or someone like her in the White House.

It still scares me that she got 46% of the vote in 2008. America needs to come to terms with how that happened. We really dodged a bullet.

Words fail.

Suspect in wrong-way crash has previous DUI conviction, records show

latimes.com

Sad. There was an idiot here in Ohio many years ago that wiped out two people riding in an Amish buggy near Chesterville Ohio. He had 7 DUI convictions before he drove into the buggy. Killed a father and daughter.

And there was another guy with I believe 3 DUIs who was driving down the berm on Rt 270, the Columbus Outerbelt, and drove right into the back of a stopped Ohio Patrolman that had another car stopped. He killed the patrolman and badly injured the driver of the other car.

The patrolman was sitting in his car running the stopped drivers license when he was hit. Reports had the guy in the SUV literally having an open bar on his front seat and middle console. Open bottles, mixers, ice and glasses. He was so drunk he had zero idea what he had done. I’ll never forget the photo in the paper of the patrol car, a Ford Crown Vic. It was all balled up into the back of the other car, but its full exhaust system was almost untouched and laying on the road…torn from its hangers.

Some people seem not to get the message. I am not sure of the laws now, but they have been stiffened here in Ohio but still not stiff enough as we too continue to have some horrendous accidents and drunken wrong way accidents on freeways has happened several times over the last 5 years.
