This is such a bizarre band — the songs always seem like they’re on the edge of dissolving into chaos and random noise. Noise with attitude.

You don’t know noise with attitude until you’ve lived with a Moluccan Cockatoo. These guys are quite a pleasing departure from that. :)

You know, I just realized I haven’t watched a single second of the Sochi Olympics. Just not into it.

Even if I felt some interest, the only people in the US allowed to cover it are NBC, and after the utter cock-up that was their coverage of the 2014 Summer Olympics, I feel no desire to give them the time of day.

Next episode of True Detective is titled: “The Secret Fate of All Life.”

This is some apocalyptic shit they’re setting up.

Well SHIT.
I PAID FOR Adobe Design & Web Premium CS6 upgrade.
I tried to install it and the installer demanded the serial # for the version of Adobe CS5.5 which I put in (even though the installer is supposed to recognize that CS5.5 is already installed on this machine) and the installer keeps telling me INVALID FOR UPGRADE.

Now I have to wait until Monday afternoon to open a ticket with customer support.

In that case I won’t give any spoilers.

Aspects of Grinderman’s sound reminds me of the Red Elvises plus… someone else more gritty?

Neat.

Nope. Lizard people.

re: #12 PhillyPretzel

Giant mole people…working in a subsidiary branch of the conspiracy run by the lizard people.

Haven’t seen the show yet, but I might on the strength of an article I read the other day.

I went, “Blink. The King in Yellow? Really?”

So they might be wandering into those places where Lovecraft went.

Speaking of which, I keep wondering if del Toro’s ever going to get around to making that movie adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness he was talking about years ago.

Somebody is setting up Twitter bots that do nothing but retweet certain people, and I seem to have gotten on that list somehow.

Maybe I shouldn’t ask. Maybe it’s supposed to be promoting something. But I don’t like it.

I believe del Toro abandoned At the Mountains of Madness because Prometheus already said what he was planning on saying.

Here’s a link

That’s one of those things I’m really mixed about.

On one hand, that’s a story that’s really easy to screw up. It would take some doing to get that feeling of ancient horror across on a movie screen.

On the other, del Toro is the man to do it.

It might not make much difference. Maybe Mountains is too genre specific. It’s my understanding that Pacific Rim took a bath, and that was a damned good movie.

Pacific Rim was a domestic failure, recouping only about $100 million of its $190 million budget, but it also made over $300 million internationally.

Pacific Rim actually did really well overseas and del Toro’s said he’s writing the script for a sequel, though it’s not yet been greenlit. But Stephen’s right, Prometheus pretty much sunk ATMOM as a viable movie in this day and age. People would look at the basic plot, think “Didn’t this already get made?” and that would be it.

That gives you time to practice your Indian. I hope you were upgrading like to like; Adobe doesn’t like people upgrading one version of CS (say Design Premium or Master Collection) to something different.

I’d suggest another editing pass, though - I saw some typos and such. Reading through it out loud is a trick I often use to find typos and grammar thingies.

Bryan Fischer now adding NASCAR commentary to his panoply of derp.

Petty may have just been joking about Patrick’s driving skills, or he may have been making a crack about Patrick being a woman. Either way, Fischer should STFU.

For that matter, so should Petty.

I was upgrading from Web Premium to Design & Web Premium since WP isn’t available in CS6.

I also verified which upgrades I qualified for and I had all my serial numbers ready.

This sucks.

I know they will try to sell me the subscription product but that is way too expensive for my little 501(c)(3).

I like the sled sports but I haven’t watched anything either. I am not willing to give NBC a penny for it.

It’s worse at the summer games, though. All the interesting things - to me at least - never get shown: fencing, shooting, modern pentathlon, crew, yachting, and the like.

33 wheat-dogghazi  Sat, Feb 15, 2014 6:39:54pm

If my cable TV box had not been fried during a thunderstorm, I’d probably be wasting time watching the Olympics on CCTV 5 here in China. I can’t watch NBC coverage (not a bad thing, really) because of their subscription wall. And, honestly, I can’t get worked up about this Olympics. I think watching Beijing and London summer Olympics burned me out.

Or backwards. That is an old typesetters trick. When reading forward you get rolling and expect words as you know the sequence to phrases, common uses, etc., so the tendency is to go right past the spelling.

If you go backwards it is word by word and you are forced to look at the word.
