You didn’t actually believe they had a problem with that did you?

11 HappyWarrior  Mon, Feb 24, 2014 2:48:41pm

But yeah this is GOP in a nutshell
Government involvement in telling a private company they can’t hire gay people, good.
Good involvement in health care and telling the companies they can’t prohibit someone because of a pre-existing condition. Bad, tyranny!
These fuckers suck. It would be one thing if they were intellectually honest but not they’re bigots and intellectually dishonest.

Venezuela says “mercenary” was plotting bomb attacks

“We just captured a mercenary brought from the Middle East,” the leftist head of state told supporters at a rally.

The suspect was surprised in Maracay, a city in the western state of Aragua, while “preparing the placement of car bombs to fill our country with violence,” Maduro said in a speech broadcast live on all Venezuelan radio and television outlets.

Jayssam Mokded Mokded and two associates were arrested around 4:00 a.m. Monday at a Maracay hotel, Aragua Gov. Tareck el Aissami said on Twitter.

Police seized an armored vehicle containing an explosive device and gunpowder, the governor said, adding that one of the other suspects detained along with Mokded had military training.

“Among the material confiscated from Jayssam Mokded appear documents that link him to a company based in Miami,” El Aissami said.

Miami’s Channel 10 television identified Mokded as the president of CJ International Services, Inc., a firm with offices in the Miami suburb of Doral, home to a large Venezuelan expatriate community.

The company’s Web site, which is in Spanish, indicates CJ International is in the business of shipping cargo to Venezuela from South Florida.

Iran lawmakers summon foreign minister over Holocaust condemnation

The foreign minister of Iran was summoned to a closed session of the country’s parliament to clarify public comments he made condemning the Holocaust.

Some 54 hard-line lawmakers signed the petition summoning Mohammad Javad Zarif to the session, Reuters reported, citing the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

The Holocaust was “tragically cruel and should not happen again,” Zarif said earlier this month at the Munich Security Conference.

Iran breaks UN arms embargo with Iraq deal

Iran has signed a deal to sell Iraq arms and ammunition worth £117 million in a move that would break a UN embargo on weapons sales by Tehran.

The agreement was reached at the end of November, documents showed, just weeks after Iraq’s prime minister Nouri al-Maliki returned from Washington, where he lobbied the Obama administration for extra weapons to fight al-Qaeda-linked militants.

If it were a 40 hour job, an E1 is making a nominal $9.57 an hour. (8 hour day, 20 working days per month. The other method for normal calculation is monthly times 12 divided by 2000 (nominal number of work hours in a year assuming vacation time and such), and it’s $9.19 an hour.

If (as many zealots like to do) you use the ‘normally expected work day’ rule, the military is 60 hours per week for 48 weeks. Then your 1531.50 per month times 12 months divided by 2000 is $6.38 an hour. (The job is ‘exempt’ so there is no overtime.)

But that’s for an E1 with less than 2 years service. Quite frankly if you’re still an E1 three months out of basic/advanced you’re a rare duck. The E2 with less than 2 is barely below minimum wage at $7.15 an hour.

At 2880 hours per year a soldier has to earn 3600 per month under ‘hours worked’ calculations to get $15 per hour. Which is indeed a lot more than most get paid.

At the same time $43,200 per year for a long hour, high labor, high risk job is criminally low in my opinion. And you have to be either a senior NCO or an officer to be getting those wages.

Greenwald’s latest is another nothing-burger. He posted what looks like studies of online manipulation techniques, but nothing at all showing actual use of those techniques by GCHQ in any kind of program. Just discussions of the techniques.

No evidence at all of real actions in the real world.

And if it is it’s not intended for some diabolical global mind control like something out of Batman. It’s not for going after Mona Hoi and nutcases like her. They’ll think it is of course.

That article is suggesting al-Maliki asked Obama for more weapons and was probably turned down. Now he’s doing business with Iran instead. Am I reading that right?

Yeah, the article also mentions Syria. Iran has been shipping weapons to Syria via Iraq. I suppose the larger concern would be an alliance between Iran, Iraq and Syria which could cause big problems down the road. But I suppose Iran and Iraq are friends, so we got that going for us which is nice.
