Judson Phillips (Tea Party Nation): Jan Brewer’s Veto Imposed Mandatory Giant Penis Cakes

That isn’t the full quote, but damn, does it not speak volumes?

*PING*

The President of Tea Party Nation, Judson Phillips, was a little miffed in the wake of Jan Brewer’s veto of the “religious freedom bill” in Arizona, and sees nothing but doom in our future:

“Tyranny is on the march,” Phillips declares in a piece on the TPN website that he also emailed to members of the group, adding that business owners who are not allowed to discriminate against gays and lesbians are “slaves” to the “great liberal state,” aided by “French Republicans” like Brewer.

“The left and the homosexual lobby are both pushing slavery using the Orwellian concepts of ‘tolerance’ and ‘inclusiveness,’” he writes.

Then…well, methinks he tipped his hand a little:

The left loves to come up with absurd hypotheticals to scream that there must be compliance with their fascism, so how about a couple from our side.

Should a devote [sic] baker be required to create a cake for a homosexual wedding that has a giant phallic symbol on it or should a baker be required to create pastries for a homosexual wedding in the shape of genitallia [sic]? Or should a photographer be required to photograph a homosexual wedding where the participants decide they want to be nude or engage in sexual behavior?

The real question, it seems to me, is how long it took for him to come up with that “absurd hyopthetical?”

My guess is…a long…LONG time!

And again, another perfectly good gaydar blown to smithereens!

“Should a devote baker be required to create a cake for a homosexual wedding that has a giant phallic symbol on it or should a baker be required to create pastries for a homosexual wedding in the shape of genitallia”

Once again on this concept: only if the baker in question is providing those products to other customers.

Does the photographer, or the baker, provide these specific services to straight couples? No? Then I guess not. I wish that I could argue with conservatives in my classroom, because most of their nonsensical shit would be dispensed by a good con law prof, or English prof, in about 10 seconds.

One day, I’m going to have to explain to my grandchildren how the last dying gasps of the anti-gay movement included howling about penis-shaped cakes being baked. It’s like they’re trying too hard to be as fun as the male version of the same deal. I can find a man to be all nekkid with me and don’t have to hire a dancer or whatever. And I’ve seen enough male genitalia in my life that I don’t need it recreated in cake.

re: #264 Charles Johnson

Some interesting perspective on the new Guardian webcam chat story, from Pando of all places: GCHQ Reportedly Monitored Yahoo Cam Chats. Company Confirms Cam Traffic Not Secure Pre-2012 | PandoDaily.

After Greenwald-land reported GCHQ was exploiting their undersea/cross-boarder cables for intelligence purposes it was pretty clear they were going to get endless mileage out of individual stories on various protocols and formats the Brits coded filters for to actually extract useful data from the raw traffic. If the earlier reporting is accurate it sounds like they constantly buffer a few days of traffic, filter out & archive data from that buffer, and generate/archive metadata, for future use in locating and monitoring their surveillance targets.

I do wonder if any of the other countries that are also tapping their undersea/cross-boarder cables for intelligence purposes have come up with a less intrusive method for extracting targeted intelligence. I’m not sure what would actually be technologically feasible, besides just unilaterally disarming and abstaining from exploiting what must be the greatest source of intelligence in history.

theguardian.com

The German, French, Spanish and Swedish intelligence services have all developed methods of mass surveillance of internet and phone traffic over the past five years in close partnership with Britain’s GCHQ eavesdropping agency.

The bulk monitoring is carried out through direct taps into fibre optic cables and the development of covert relationships with telecommunications companies.

ft.com

Le Monde newspaper meanwhile reported that the French external intelligence agency DGSE and the US had an agreement since 2011 to exchange data.

It said the DGSE had access to digital traffic from Africa and Afghanistan that landed in France via undersea cables. Quoting an unidentified senior French intelligence official, it said the DGSE forwarded some of this information unedited to the NSA, including data involving both French citizens and foreigners. It said Sweden, Israel and Italy, which also had undersea cable terminals, did likewise.

Sounds like Pshonka could be friends w/Sarah Palin.

Ten of the weirdest things found in former officials’ mansions

1. A garden statue of a white horse in Mezhyhirya that has Italian scenery painted on its body.
2. Water taps shaped as golden swans in a bathroom in Mezhyhirya. Pushing the wings turns the water on.
3. Dead birds of prey, crucified on wooden crosses in the garden. A popular rumor says there is a criminals’ tradition to do it for good luck, but it’s more likely that the birds were there to scare other birds away from the aviary.
4. Paintings of former Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka as Julius Caesar and his wife Olga Pshonka as a Russian empress.
5. A lavish costume of an 18th century aristocrat found in the personal dressing room of Viktor Yanukovych.
6. Golden bread in one of the rooms of Yanukovych’s palace.
7. A five-meter long chandelier purchased for 𠫈 million for Yanukovych’s mansion.
8. Pshonka’s signature laid with Swarovski crystals on a picture frame.
9. Relics of Christian saints found in Pshonka’s study.
10. A list of phone numbers for “exorcism services” found in Pshonka’s home.

Even more - from that Pando article it seems that most or all of this webcam data may have been from public chat sessions. And to top it off, Yahoo wasn’t encrypting any of it, not even the supposed “private” chats, until 2012 - at which point the “Optic Nerve” collection program also ceased.

Time for the Republican “Big Tent” to shrink yet again.

Today’s victim of their partisanship? Veterans.

Senate rejects bill on veterans benefits

The largest piece of veterans legislation in decades — aimed at expanding health care, education and other benefits — was rejected Thursday by the Senate on a procedural issue after proponents failed to obtain 60 votes to keep the bill alive.

Wrangling over an issue — veterans — that often receives bipartisan support, the legislation died on a vote of 56-41, with only two Republicans voting for it.

The main sticking point for this bill was that Republicans insisted on attaching a rider that would add sanctions to Iran - which are not only opposed by the Obama administration and State Department because it would endanger ongoing negotiations, but also by the Department of Defense as being unnecessary. Since the amendment was not included, Republicans almost unanimously voted against the benefits package.

O/T for some serious stuff.
As most of you know, MrBWS is a lineman. It’s a job that pays very well (if you’re union) but it’s very dangerous.
This week has been exceptionally dangerous.
Monday in Bloomington, Ind., there was an equipment failure where the controls on the bucket truck suddenly went haywire and the bucket hit a live 19.9 high wire. The two guys in the bucket were seriously injured by both electricity and the flash (one is in an induced coma due to burnt esophagus and lungs, in addition to burns over 30% of his body). My husband works with both of them.
On Tuesday, a lineman in Pekin, Ill., was electrocuted while replacing a pole in a backyard.
This afternoon, a Duke Energy lineman was killed and another seriously injured in Mason, Ohio, when the pole they were on snapped at the base while they were replacing lines.

This is what I worry about every single day.
And this is why I appreciate the off-topic silliness, bad jokes/puns, cat pictures, silly memes, etc. here, because life is fragile but we still need to laugh and snark and live.

OK, carry on again with penis cakes…

dept of I HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMING IN C++ FOR TWENTY YEARS AND I NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE

vendor software gives out ‘unknown’ values in a float that looks like this in the debugger:

-1.#INF0000

WHAT THE FUCK?

here’s the answer

If your operation would generate a larger positive number than could be stored in a double, the operation will return 1.#INF on Windows or inf on Linux. Similarly your code will return -1.#INF or -inf if the result would be a negative number too large to store in a double

yeah but the bastiges do it intentionally in this driver

ok, so how do you test for this monstrosity?

// actually, use diamond brackets here instead of quotes, but HTML can't deal with the brackets and you really need these includes
#include "cfloat"
#include "iostream"
#include "sstream"

Ross Douchehat can go fuck himself because he won’t get pregnant.

He is also severely delusional:

My suggestion of a Bowles-Simpson-esque “grand bargain” involving late-term abortion restrictions was admittedly a little flip, but I don’t think the underlying point is that implausible.

“not implausible”? I can think of several things that are much more plausible than this fantasy about a political bargain on abortion.

1) I start losing weight effortlessly via involuntary weight loss without being seriously ill.

2) I win the lottery without ever buying a lottery ticket.

3) World peace.

You know the thing that cracks me up about these penis cakes is that no one, straight or gay is going to have one at a frigging wedding reception. Maybe a bachelor or bachelorette party as gag, but not at the main reception. Nor has any baker that has been slapped down for refusing to bake a wedding cake for a Gay or Lesbian couple been asked to bake one.

She comes to a furniture store and asks: “What’s the most expensive table that you have?!” Every furniture store keeps in its stock some kitschy Chinese table, all gilded and bejewelled, just in case a collective farmer who fell into dough decides to visit. Someone, either pro-Russian Ukrainians or the Russians is trying to provoke an incident, which could then be used to justify either military action on Russia’s part, or they could be borrowing a page from Konrad Henlein’s SdP (Sudetendeutche Partei) which would provoke incidents in the Sudetenland in order to invite a crackdown by the Czechoslovak authorities. Ultimately, of course, this lead to the Munich Agreement and annexation of the Sudetenland by Germany.

A lot of languages that have grammatical gender use feminine words for “penis”. For example, the Latin mentula and the French slang bite. On the other hand, Latin cunnus and French con are grammatically masculine.

Just on beds? No, sofas and chairs, too.

It’s a Ukrainian thing, more so even in the diaspora than in the home country. I have no idea why. I do it because my mother did, and because my mother embroiders really beautiful Ukrainian pillows which she gives me each year on my birthday. And I am old…..so have many pillows.

One possibility is that in urban Ukraine few people have dedicated beds as such. Each room has a sofa that is folded out into a bed at night. And they usually have pillows on them. In the village it is similar, except the beds don’t fold out into sofas, they double as sofas. They have these monster pillows (really huge) with decorative embroidery on one end. You leave that end out during the day, and stack the pillows so the embroidery shows.

BTW, in British English they are called cushions.” I learned this in India, where I buy decorative cushion covers. Sparkly ones. With embroidery.
